I think you made a very important distinction between refining and acquiring a technique is really important. Some people look at flow drills as dismiss them on the basis that they’re not realistic. We’ll, you know that, however the purpose is not for realism, it’s for “acquiring” technique in a time efficient manner for both training partners.

agree. Anyone who has ever trained in martial arts would know that all out sparring is only 1 component.. there's a lot of repetition and drills that lead up to the actual sparring session.
And even in sparring, you're not out to kill/injure your partner either so inherently one needs to hold back even a little.
