Thank you for taking the time to make these videos. They are very helpful. I enjoy your series. I'm not able to get to my instructor every week but your styles are very similar. Much respect-Ooossseee!!!
I learned Escrima 5 years ago and stopped. After watching your video I once again pick up my wooden stick and practice! Thank you Mark you are a great teacher!
Siniwali means weaving. You can Siniwali with doubles or baston y daga. I would even say you can work the left hand attack in a weaving fashion to accomplish the "weaving attacks" of Siniwali, but you are literally performing single stick striking patterns.
Guro Jerome Teague I know what sinawali means, it’s my native tongue. I teach the single sinawali as a template to incorporate anything with the left hand. Usually beginning with checking and sundot. Using the term sinawali helps establish the relationship between single stock, double stick or simply just two hands. And so I use the term sinawali with single or double in front. It’s an easier approach in my opinion, especially to my youth students. Teaching a set circular pattern to flow while focusing on the left hand in this case. Students (here at least) tend to isolate and freeze their safety hand in front of their face if I were to teach this as just “strikes”
Hi! I realize this is an old comment but training with your left is the exact same as training with your right. You just have to give it more effort, patience, and time.
Gosh, thank you so much brother for sharing the movement of sinawali and how i wish i could learn and training the philipino martial arts but unfortunately we dont have it here in malaysia. So the only way i can learn this kali is through you guys.. This is my heritage too since im half blood of philipino.. Soon i will go there myself to master this kali..
Thank you for taking the time to go over the steps and break it down slowly. And explaining it all. I like the way you teach. Keep up the good work. I am pretty you have thousands of students watching you.
Thanks for sharing I studied pikiti trishie back in the eighties and never stopped playing with my sticks because they were so much fun(I know that don't sound right ) I used to do this pattern by accident just working on shadow boxing. If you can include other single stick combos I'd appreciate it. Also can you give sparring tips.
My daughter and I just started Dose Pares. As a newbie, I have so many questions that come up between classes. Your videos fill-in the blanks. Thank you for making FMA so accessible. Your videos are great teaching tools, and you take time to explain the concepts.
No such thing as sinawali in foreign kali. You can only had sinawali in alias kali. So what are talking about? Which kali or you dont know theres two kind of kali in pinas?
LMAO WHAT?! Two kinds?! How about thousands. No one owns sinawali, everyone can have it and everyone does it. Whether they use the word or not. Here we go with the toxic Filipino ”I know more than you, you damn Westerner”. No, I will not challenge your Grandmaster. There’s no such thing as foreign Kali because it all comes from the same place 🤓. It’s called evolution
I've been facinated in kali since i was young.my father knows this.he even went to doelo using this and he almost killed his opponent but so sad he doesnt want me to learn this.he didnt even let us play his arnis or kamagong.😔😔😔
Thanks so much. The arnis they taught in college PE was ungainly, crude, useless and very, very NOT fluid. It was like they wanted people to get turned off from this beautiful and useful art. The way they taught it was a disgrace to all martial arts.
I always thought sinawali was a term that applied to double sticks only. Not thet it's really important but what system of kali are you doing exactly? It reminds me of the pititi trishie I learned
great channel Mark, have you thought of adding a slow mo section to illustrate the movement in it's entirety? Even when you are moving slowly, sometimes it is difficult to pick up the nuances .....great stuff !!! I'm in Australia ... wish I was closer lol
I'm confused about the advance technique that last one after twirling continue with another half round movement, it always hit my own head. it looks cool but can't speed it up because I need to be careful not to hit my own head LOL.
In answer to you Rommel .. he appears to be opening his hand on the twirl but you should not ... that becomes the weakest part of your technique .. your wrists will be very stiff to start with but they will loosen .. rather than open the hand on the twirl simply loosen the grip slightly, not so much that the stick flies out of your hand ... you also don't need to be holding the stick with a death grip... stay relaxed ... good instruction tho' ... and we are probably all guilty of opening our hands slightly at some point ... I really like to learn more about Eskrima but the thing is they don't have a Gym here yet in Saskatoon. Learned basic strikings back home but it's not enough. Great video kabayan. Naka-Subsribe na ako
Why do you call it single sinawali? I am pretty sure most FMA, even in the philippines understand sinawali to be a double stick or double weapon technique.
This was great! I recently started getting into this to replace the boring physical therapy they had me doing for my back injury. The wrist twirl you do between angle 2 and 1 is done for power, or flow, or just cause it looks cool, or is it kind of like a fake jab to get your opponent to react or something else completely different? Glad I found your channel! Peace
All of your answers are all valid - it just depends on the situation! Personally, I do it more as a momentum flow more times than the others. Thanks for watching!
Try a DynaFlex Powerball for wrist flexibility. They're @ $25 (you don't need the $120 version, it's the same thing but with lights and other bells & whistles). It also helps your grip strength.
My teacher gets mad at me if i have a loose grip. He says always make sure you have full control of the stick. Or you will get disarmed. The amount of rattan sticks we have gone (broken) through is crazy. So if i held it wrong, it got smashed out off my hands.
My teacher told me (when i asked the same question) it depends on the system. Typically between 26-32 is the length used. In black eagle, we use 28-32 as our standard lengths.
I'm self learning kali, and your videos are so helpful.
Thank you so much!
Get an instructor.

Hi. Do you have a lesson/ tutorial vid that explains the actions of the left hand? Thank you.
Hi! I realize this is an old comment but training with your left is the exact same as training with your right. You just have to give it more effort, patience, and time.
@@radiantrcb5094 I think they meant a tutorial for the empty hand, not just holding the stick with the other hand.
OK, If you actually strike, your pattern is interrupted. How do you recover?
the X pattern , not sinawali pattern.., sinawali has no twirling or ciircling .,unlike redonda .
Hey Guro,
I love this video. They way you show everything from all the angles, even a slow learner like me gets it. Thank you so much.
Thank you for your video! I have a question though. Should I train that with the left hand too or just training the dominant hand will be enough?

FMA pero english speaking, sa ibang bansa kaba nag tuturo, o sa mga kalahi mong filipino
I get stuck doing hard strikes instead of fast fluid motions....... My goal right now is to get there
Just slow down and get it right first. The speed and power will come all on it's own. Good luck.
lol i want more sinawali bro
So question to help me get that twirl down after the #2 strike: is there a purpose to it? Like a strike? Or is it just for flow?

No one will judge you in playing your stick though 😂🤣

There's a lot of great FMA channels on UA-cam. I still think you're the best at explaining it.

Hey Marc! Love the videos, man. It’s helped me a ton. Do you provide an online class?
Awesome! #respect from Kansas City, MO!
Could you explain what tke 1.5 whipping motion is usefull for please? Thank you.
I really like to learn more about Eskrima but the thing is they don't have a Gym here yet in Saskatoon. Learned basic strikings back home but it's not enough. Great video kabayan. Naka-Subsribe na ako
Great video! Am starting your lesson from very basic! Thank you
Me, too!

Amazing job!
Blablabla...
Great Job , where ya out of?
Ronbo Nick Brampton, ON, Canada - thank you!
Nice sinawali :) Just one question, why is your second hand coming on top of the opposite elbow during the "inside" hits?
To much time between strikes ,in latosa escrima we dont do those fancy movements between strikes
what is the difference between Kali and Escrima?
There is no difference. Kali, Escrima, and Arnis are different regional names for the same systems.
Kali, Arnis, Escrima explained here ua-cam.com/video/whEuHxbp9o8/v-deo.html
Is their any link between single stick sinawali and empty hand?
You are a great master........and you are among the few who explains very well.....
Ganda master kung magtatagalog ka poh maintindihan pa min.
Thanks soo much ! great sequence! question , is trapilon a florete?
Can we apply this using bladed weapons such as bolo?
Mucho bla bla bla explica menos y demuestra más
i'd love it if you could show this with a partner.
how many centemetro ang stick ng arnis
Awesome breakdown of the sinawali drill!!! May I ask, why do we adopt a southpaw stance if we're right handed in the first place??
There is a saying I learned from Filipino arts: if you learn to fight left-handed, you can win 90% of the time.
thanks for the video Mark. very detail. please do more sinwali & kali, thanks again. keep up the excellent training!
This was great! I recently started getting into this to replace the boring physical therapy they had me doing for my back injury.

Nice vid Mark, really helpful demo on flowing between strikes 1 and 2. Thanks
I'm practicing this technique right now. Thanks.
Hi mark
ang galing! gawin ko ito mamaya
Nice, thank you 👍
New sub here. Awesome vid! Salamat!
thinking of doing arnis in the future this video is one of the most important fundamentals to begin with
Thank you very much...very nice tutorial
Very nice i like it i follow the way u train
when you twirl.. do you open up the hand a little or is my wrist that freaking tight lol ?
Right on bro...thanks for the reply..looking forward to your vids...keep up the great work!

Slow down the speed of the video so you can see it clearly
@@ffkffkffk Did so, and does not have all his fingers holding onto the stick at all times.
Thank you very much bro
As a beginner could you show me how the twirling works as I’m struggling with it
I am also struggling with twirling, I would appreciate any focus drills you could provide to help with a nice circular twirl.
Great simplicity and straight to the point
More please!
Thank you coach
The twirling isn't very well explained, I found that one in a separate video
very helpful video..thanx a lot
Hey! This was super helpful! Thank you.
The twirling motion is the one I struggle with
Awesome tutorial! I can't wait to try it! Thank you!
1:26 what is your system again?
great tutorial master love it.
Great demo
Great tutorials. Thanks!
Epic video bro.
Love it !! Thank you
Awesome!
Thank you!
Olisi not sinawali
thomas jf olisi is our terminology for stick or “Baston” and sinawali is our term for weaving or “carenza” as most know it.
how Long should the stick will be
26 inches

Hey Marc do you have any video clips of your kickboxing classes? Are they Filipino martial arts inspired?
Union Martial Arts : cheers. Happy new year
