- Coach Toby Genato, fitness expert and self-defense instructor, discusses the basic angles of attack of the Isla Mandirigma Kali - Kali De Leon system. Coach Toby is the founder of the Kalis Tres Armas system.
Kali de Leon is a Filipino Martial Art based on the creative but disciplined use of various weapons including, -- but not limited to, sticks, knives, improvised weapons and empty-hand techniques. More than that, KDL is the melding of battle tested traditional techniques with modern teaching methodologies. KDL offers a complete curriculum built upon progressive skills development that has been shown to both quickly advance and deeply inspire each and every KDL student. Basic and yet covers the whole body for devastation. We learned something similar to this in marine corps martial arts weapon training.

Thank you so much, brother, much appreciated! If you're interested to learn more about Coach Toby's system, there are more videos of him demonstrating his own system, Tres Armas Kali. Again, thank you, and stay safe. I subscribed as well.
Thanks for sharing. It's so interesting seeing how one single martial art from the same geographic location can have so many intricacies even when said place is relatively small in territory size.
That was beautiful! Thank you for dropping by, brother!

Dear bladesociety, could you eventually explain in a video how to grap a Kali stick correctly with the fingers?
Hi Cis cis! The instructor in this video is Kuya Toby Genato. You may find more of his material from his channel. I think in one of his videos, he explained how to properly grip the Kali stick :) ua-cam.com/channels/cDJT2fKXA2jRENUXwdsR7g.html

Interesting :o isnt there any attack from. Top to bottom then? Its very common in kendo
También en este arte marcial. Tienen katas
Algo así como un kata pero no en el sentido más estricto. Es solo para inculcar la mecánica corporal adecuada y una orientación adecuada. Gracias por ver nuestros videos :)
what is that mask called?
its for airsoft
AnGAHLs of ATTAGH! I love it! lol
Should I always use my lead hand to strike with the weapon? Or are there stances where I use the rear? I know Kali is all about using both right and left but I'm wondering about the rear and lead and whether they are traditionally interchangeable. It feels natural to hold my weapon with the rear hand for some reason and I notice you always hold it with the lead. I am new to Filipino Martial Arts so please excuse my ignorance.
We appreciate your interest in FMA, and we welcome all questions, brother! There might be instances you can have your weapon in the rear, but mostly, we use the dominant hand in the front to hold the weapon, for longer reach, like how they do it in fencing. Also, it serves as some kind of "shield" in the sense that the opponent has go past my hand with the weapon before he can get to my vital organs. Another point is that it takes less "commitment" like how a jab is less committed than a straight right, which leaves us less prone to counters in a way.
Thank you! I will keep practicing!
More power to you, brother!
