- Last fall I was part of a team, building a, near life size, elephant doll for a children play at the Royal Danish Theatre.
Two actors was to walk inside its legs, controlling trunk ears tail and mouth, performing with the rest of the crew on stage.
The elephant played a major part of the play, and both actors and the giant doll had to endure about 30 shows without breaking.
approx. 4m. long, 3m. high and 2.5m. wide
weight about 60kg.
mechanical trunk, ears, tail and mouth controlled by the two actors.
'Skeleton' made of aluminum pipes.
Shoes made of cork, aluminum and in-liners.
Skin made of cloth and some weird expanding plastic material.
Body, Head and Trunk, made of foam-plates and lots of glue.
mechanical control for the Trunk, Ears, Mouth and tail made of wire, aluminum, string, cable ties, bolts and all sorts of small assorted parts.
Tusks made of fiberglass.
Ears and Eyes in casted latex.
Painted with airbrush.
Deep respect to the actors for making this animal come alive.
This elephant looks incredible so well made and painted or detailed form the way the trunk moves when the people ar in it to the size and it just made so well. Good job 🐘🐘🐘
Im extremely impressed! Wow looks real !☺
That is just about the most impressive puppet I have seen sort of the Henson creatures!!! Brava!!
Was it for a stage version of “The Jungle Book”?
I'm so in awe of your work! I volunteer time to our church designing and building life size animals, costumes, etc. for stage productions. Would love to see more of the building process on this elephant.
great puppets. Worked on shows with same styled elephants and had someone in from the zoo to teach actors how elephants walk and act - amazing work and when combined with good acting - can be very lifelike. I see the same idea is occuring with dinosaurs now.
It's amazing!, it's very real, the body's shape, the legs and the skull are perfects, congratulations, a very nice work.
These should be in the Rainforest Cafe Someone needs to give them this idea.
I love elephants and this videos was made on my birthday
I want to see the plans on how they designed it
Thats cool
Maybe Circuses should consider replacing live elephants with this
it would be a puppet show and an animal act mixed into one, without putting any harm to wildlife
That would be a great idea
nice work, all! that was one cool piece of work.
i would like to know what you used to build this contramption. if you can please let me know how. thank you
Amazing!
looks like a lot of wires to allow it to be used as a puppet.
MAN that looks heavy to hold up!
Do this in front of a real elephant
Hey! Great work! Can I purchase it?
Amazing costume!

This is beautiful. Is an artistic natural way become animal. Do more.
I dont like animatronics, human destroy real animals then build fake animals...someday he will see himself in the mirror. Then he will discover he is as fake as his creatures.
i need to do a tail big like this, can you link me a tutorial or just explain me?
