  • Hey all
    This is the first in a series of videos called golden oldies I’m going to make about old or discontinued guitar gear that still has massive relevance and can totally be the right choice for a lot of situations.
    I personally think there is too much onus placed in the idea that new gear is inherently better than old gear because if the advance of technology. Good tone is good tone no matter how it’s created.
    To start this series I’m going with the Lovepedal Amp 11.
    This is a drive and boost pedal that I have always coveted as I’ve been using g a clone of it for many years.
    It’s a pretty transparent overdrive that really does deliver the sound of your guitar and amp but dirtier and in a really amp like way.
    Combine that with a clean boost for solos and you can’t go wrong.

    I purchased mine when I watched Chris Buck put out a video using an older version. It is my always on pedal for the last four years. Great pedal!

      Thx for the comment. Yeah it’s an absolutely brilliant pedal. I didn’t know Chris used one.

    The pedal sounds great. That Strat however, phenomenal 👌

      Hey. I upgraded the pickups in the strat to bare knuckle 65 veneer board strat pickups and it changed it completely. It had fat 50 pickups in it. It really does sound great now.

      @@TheGuitarEffect I'm going to have to look into those, that's a fantastic sounding Strat for sure. BKP aren't cheap, but they sure do make a nice pickup

      So I went to the music store I buy stuff from and said I think I want 60s strat pickups as opposed to 50s and he happened to have these in stock. Did me a great deal. I would normally discount BKP as they’re above my paygrade! But in SOME circumstances you do get what you pay for!

    Sean from lovepedal has a good ear for tweaking circuits. This is just a Tube screamer circuit without an input and output buffer (transistor based buffer). He also has many versions of a one transistor boost with clipping. COT, Champ and Tchula etc are nearly same circuit with minor changes. I think he is great at being able to tune a circuit with minimum number of components.
    Edit* I just look up schematics online and its identical to the Timmy circuit with minor value changes.

      Hey. Thx for the comment. Yeah the Lovepedal stuff is great. Doesn’t sound anything like TS to me which is really interesting. I really like it and I’m not the biggest fan of tube screamers.

      @@TheGuitarEffect No problem you always give a good honest review and your videos are enjoyable to watch, Sorry for the nerdiness but I like to throw circuits together for fun plus it saves a fortune on G.A.S, So yeah if you search for the timmy and tube screamer schematics online they are very similar topology. The amp 11 seems to be identical to the timmy with the input impedance biased higher to 1M ohm more like your amps input impedance and the gain pot is half the value so a little less gain.

      @@TheGuitarEffectNa verdade ele é uma variação do Timmy. Se parecem até.

    Great review. No surprise though as you tend to do great reviews of often not well known pedals.
    There is one thing, though, and this is about pretty much every pedal review video, not just you. Acoustic string noise. It is difficult to determine the actual sound of the pedal because the room or vocal mic picks up some of the acoustic sound of the guitar. Could the mic audio be ducked from a sidechain signal from the guitar? I know this would affect voice audio too, so it might be more complicated than I am making it out to be.
    Keep it up though. Great channel, and good to have Irish voices in the space.

      Hey Gerry. Thx for the comment. Hope you are well. So, believe it or not there is absolutely no string noise (bar one or two missed moments per video) in any of my videos.
      As soon as it’s recorded I go in to the audio and mute my vocal mic whenever I’m playing the guitar. The guitar is recorded direct so there’s no string noice of any kind.
      If you are hearing string noise on this it’s just inherent statiness!!

      @@TheGuitarEffect it could well be just the bright single-coil sound indeed. In which case, ignore my comment🙃
      Thanks for the videos, though... always great stuff.

      Ah no I take any negative comment with an open mind. I’m fairly old… and as a result opinionated! So I’m not always receptive but that’s a fair comment. It is just the guitar though.
      Thx for the kind words. Appreciated

    I think this teal colour small box is the only one to have the boost not working without the overdrive already on. Great playing and great explanation. I'm going to pick one of these up.

    • @TheGuitarEffect
      @TheGuitarEffect  3 місяці тому

      Ah! Interesting I had been using the Mosky Amp turbo and it sounds amazing. It had the boost separate. So the other amp 11 versions have the boost separate? I didn’t know that

    • @jordanlaughlin4060
      @jordanlaughlin4060 3 місяці тому

      @@TheGuitarEffect yeah that's correct. I think it's only the small box teal that has the restricted boost option. Could be useful in itself though to go from one extreme to the other easily.
