    There's been a lot of looper pedals released since the Digitech Trio + and I've seen the videos of all of them are some of them better? Well i guess that's subjective but I personally love this looper and I don't believe I've ever seen anyone have this much fun with any looper on UA-cam. These guy's really show off how pleasing this looper can be. This thing really is a powerhouse. Thanks guy's

      @1953purdie you nailed it on all points here. There have been lots of looper and band in the box products launched since the Trio+, it is impressive how well it holds up today. This is a really powerful and easy to use looper. You are also right about how much fun we had with this. We are just guys that love to play and this let us play in some new ways. Thanks for joining the dialog here.

      This can be complex for sure. We decided to really focus on the basics and loved what it can do without us trying to use every bell & whistle. Once we got used to playing simple to train the unit and learned the basics we found it very useful and not too tough to get rolling with. If you try to do everything that it can do I think it would have taken us a while as well.

    • @goldtop362
      @goldtop362 Рік тому +2

      You run the "band" part into the amp's fx loop (or an frfr cab/pa etc) and the guitar out into the front of your amp.
      If you use pedals, you run them through the Trio + fx loop, so you can have a clean sound when you teach the band. There are some UA-cam videos that show how to connect it up, if you're not sure.
      Check out That Pedal Guy on here. He has several really informative videos on all aspects of using the Trio+.

    the sequencing part of it is great ONCE you understand how to do it as the manual doesn't tell u all you need to know, interestingly it will also link the parts so even if the feel is different, it will make them all consistent, you can fit 12 songs on the sd card and with the added foot pedal you can stop the bass or drums or go up to next part etc, The bass line can be changed to from root progressions to 5th I think so you can have quite a lot of variety with that and the alt time button, it's a head warp figuring it out but once you do you can have a load of fun writing a complete song intro, verse, bridge, chorus end etc , you need to write down what you want and sequence it and have it sheeted so you know when everythings coming in as it can be tricky remembering it... all the tracks can be dropped into the computer and stored too, several sd cards and you could have a good live set... with just yourself.

    I've been using this pedal for quite a while and i love it! I play smooth jazz and jazz rock arrangements on this device using powered arrays and a mixing board. It sounds fantastic when engineered properly! I play 4 gigs a month and just like the guy said here, my sets are on chips! The auduence lives the tunes and i love the lack of headaches! My only suggestion is that Digitech should have designed this with three separated physical trs outputs. It would give more control over the summed out of the bass and drums in the mix.

    Great video. My man at the end was having fun. I do not really see the Trio as a reliable performance tool- at all. In a pinch maybe but it will overwrite saved presets. Maybe you could have multiple SD cards and just playback. It would be nice if you could use the SD card to playback on a PC or tablet but I don't think that is an option. Very clearly, the Trio+ is an excellent tool for getting your ideas down and having fun. Beyond that, it falls a little short. Hopefully a future version or competing product will fully exploit the potential of this magic box. It is a lot of fun to play around with. Maybe a new produ ct can add Keys or other instruments- allow for key changes; more I/O; more rythyms, etc.
    Using the Parts or Seq. how do you connect all parts together? I have not explored that yet. So I have part one- will part two automatically start when part 1 is done? Do I have to hit any buttons? Also, I think that click track only works once or for part 1. Again, this unit has potential but is not fully baked if you want to use it as a more serious tool. It should also have an online editor.
    Tip: The Drums/Cymbals sound 100 times better with studio monitors with tweeters vs. guitar amp which sounds muddy.

    I think they put these out 5 or 6 yrs ago, I tried to get one but they took em out of the market and wanted to remake em. I guess they did right cause what your showing is some killer funky blues bass riffs. Were all used to drum machines , but man, to have a bass to jam along with all the time would be incredible! I suppose this is unlike the flood of pedals out there and costs a pretty penny or two. I have to have one

    Had one for years, the trick in 'learn' mode is to keep the chords simple (triads work well) - it can get confused with extensions. Also when strumming to get the essentials of the rhythm rather than play the full pattern. When you come to play the loop actual part you can revert to the song parts.

    • @NoFearGuitarGear
      @NoFearGuitarGear  5 місяців тому

      I don't think that you could use vocal to "teach" the Trio+, but you could benefit from the backing band as a vocalist after the songs are defined. As for MIDI files, there is likely a way but not something that we tested.

      @@NoFearGuitarGear ok so would I be able to play some simple

    • @NoFearGuitarGear
      @NoFearGuitarGear  5 місяців тому

      @@byoflive We have not tested this ourselves, but we did a little research and with a keyboard the answer is yes. The key is that you would need to use basic chords so the bass part can follow correctly, then but the more complex chords on top of the rhythm section.
      As far using stringed instruments, we could not find any info on anyone directly trying that, so we can not say for sure. It does seem like it would work, it is just a matter of finding a way to give the Trio+ the basic chord or note structure to teach it. If you play basic parts (single notes / basic triad chords) it should work. Maybe someone else will come along in the comments with more direct experience, but we hope that this helps.

    My worry about this clever device is how useful it would be on stage without someone twiddling the knobs for me. You alluded to this at the end of your video, but didn't go into how to do it. I am not great with technology, so a follow-on video on how to do this would help me greatly. Thanks.

    • @NoFearGuitarGear
      @NoFearGuitarGear  4 місяці тому

      We think it is correct to say that this might not be the best tool for live performance in many cases. You can use an SD card to save your loops and beats, so it is possible to build it all in advance and just start the backing band and any looping that you saved. It can work, but the people that we have been talking to that have the pedal and love it all seem to use it for practice, song writing and general inspiration. We are working on a new video where we go deeper, do watch for that.

    Questions : Why does it not have a click track to begin with? The reason I say that is, what if your timing wavers in the first learning phase, does it automatically quantize or something? So the other parts are locked to that original tempo timing? How many guitar parts upon guitar parts can you loop? ( not separate parts of the song ). How many 'songs' can you save and ultimately how much recording minutes does it have total? Can it really do 3/4? Your demonstration suggested it was not really 3/4?

    • @kazeyphoto
      @kazeyphoto 2 місяці тому +3

      @neil-aspinall
      question 1 … just like a human band, the player(s) have to ‘show’ or ‘teach’ the “drummer” the tempo for new loops. i.e., the trio has to have a reference. however, if you’re just writing another “part” for the same “song” (you can write up to 5 parts per song, and up to 12 songs per sd card), you can engage the click & it will default to the same tempo as the previous ‘part’, as the trio assumes the new part will be combined with the previous part into the same song. … if that makes sense. but brand new parts’ tempos done like this are not adjustable the way you probably want them to be (more on that below). imo, for each new part that’s not part of a song already in development, it’s best to teach the trio the tempo directly.
      question 2 … if your timing waivers, the trio will do its best to guess the tempo & meter and quantize accordingly. it’s not 100% accurate at correcting the player’s mistakes. it’s best to use a clean, simple, rhythmically accurate foundational/reference progression to ‘teach’ the trio’s drum & bass parts. you can use an online metronome or free phone app as accompaniment to help.
      question 3 … the other parts are locked into a tempo, to a point. that is, you can always speed up or slow down bass & drum parts, as well as any already recorded guitar layers - on the fly - and all will be ‘time stretched’ accordingly & remain in sync with one another when the tempo is changed manually. caveats: tempo adjustments are global - they affect every “part” on the unit proportionately while the tempo knob is abnormal, not just the part you’re messing with at the time. also, to record a new guitar layer, the tempo knob must be in the normal (noon) position with the green led off - indicating time stretching is not engaged. in fact, the trio will not let you engage the looper for a new guitar layer if time stretching is engaged. the green light will blink reminding you to return the tempo to normal before recording a new layer can take place. you can also create any part at whatever tempo you want … even if you combine them into the same song later, each part will retain its own tempo instead of all conforming to one master tempo within a song.
      question 4 … I’ve found no limit to the number of layers I can loop onto the same part. I suppose there could be memory limits with sd cards, but I’ve recorded loops with more than a dozen parts without any issues. maybe keep in mind though that because all the inputs & outputs on the trio are mono/TS, and despite being 24 bit & 44.1 khz sample rate, too many layers can get muddy. and you’d have to regulate the volume/tone of each guitar layer by various means as you’re looping it to ensure each layer sits well in the loop's overall mix. i've found this fairly easy to do.
      question 4 … you can write up to 5 parts per song, and up to 12 songs per sd card.
      question 5 … (from the manual) … "maximum recording time: 230 seconds per song part - based on a minimum 50 bpm and 48 bars per part." i always use parts as individual loops instead of combing parts into songs. i.e., i have 60 independent loops on my unit at any given time (5 parts x 12 songs = 60 parts/loops total) so i can't speak to time constraints with regard to assembling songs from parts. but the manual's math would suggest [a] 230 minutes total 'recording' time (230 seconds x 5 parts x 12 songs = 230 minutes) and [ b] no song length limits.
      question 6 … yes it can really do ¾
      hope all that helps. i love my unit. it keeps me inspired. there was a learning curve but so glad i stuck with it. it's pretty amazing & lots of fun. i also use it as 'scratch pad' for riffs & progressions before moving into my daw for production. very handy. you can pick up a used one online for ~$200. cheers.

    I still haven’t figured out how to do extra parts and have just focussed on simple songs without choruses etc. Or how to save. I will persevere, though. While it’s great to practice with, I mainly want to use it for solo performances. I’m wondering (since mine is the earlier model with no looper) if I can make it work with my Boss RC-3 loop station??? I think I should be able to run the bass and drum pattern through the PA and the guitar I add latter through the RC-3 and the f/x loop on my guitar amp. Or am I way off base here and need to bite the bullet and just buy the Plus, now? 😂😂
    I’m 63 and pretty much new to pedals overall. Never too late to learn, I hope! 😂

    It doesn’t matter which style you choose before you start playing. The style of the background track is determined by what you do with the right hand in terms of your rhythm technique. For example, if you accent on two and four, you will get a snare on two and four.

I find it easier to create all of my song parts then transfer it to a DAW where I convert to mp3 backing tracks for the live performance. Really helpful video on the Trio+, thanks for this! I've used the Trio and Trio+ since they came out a few years ago. I'm really bummed out that Digitech totally dropped the ball since the Trio+ came out, abandoning any further innovations in the Trio+ hardware concept, or firmware updates, USB C connection, PC/Mac software, etc. as the Trio+ hardware concept fills a real nice rhythm section niche beyond just electric guitar. Maybe a table-top Trio+Table to challenge the Boss RC-505?? For example, I think it has good future applications in keyboard accompaniment, esp in beatmaking, integrating with Rolands SP404Mk2, and any equiv samplers and grooveboxes. It doesn't currently 'learn' or work well with various keyboards (stage pianos, synths, or with acoustically mic'd guitar or real pianos), but it COULD with updates from Digitech. Perhaps the biggest correctable drawback I've hit in either live settings or recording via DAW is that it doesn't output bass and drums as completely separate tracks (via its single mixer out to a console) , even given the separate gain control on bass vs drums. Even better if it could separate everything out -- Bass guitar, kick/bass drum, snare, toms, high hat etc at least via USB C in a DAW mode. I'll keep waiting to see if Digitech or anyone else picks this Band-In-a-Box driven idea back up. given that AI is showing up now in more commodity products. Sorry for the long rant, thanks again!
