"I am you, writ small" says Tyrion to his father in A Storm of Swords before loosing his crossbow. Tyrion is truly Twyin's son, no matter what the theories say. He's Tywin reborn but with (slightly) more empathy and baggage plus a dwarf. Tyrion is not the good guy, he is a complex antagonist that the show refused to develop.
@@mjhilps Book Tyrion, yes, because his conduct was far too merciless to warrant a character-build. Show Tyrion is where I will disagree, but mostly for true fact he did experience growth and change, but it was through honest tragedy & failure as opposed to clumsiness through excess & his family’s suppression of him. Both times he went on trial in front of the Iron Throne, he didn’t deserve to be there, but the failures and mistakes made to get him there were his completely, regardless of how good/decent of a person he turned out to be. Great example is how hard Varys’ death stuck in his mind the more despotic Daenerys effectively became.

Man, we really missed the bitter cruel bastard version of Tyrion. Woth Dinklage levelnof acting, it would've been glorious. They turned him in a boring goody two shoes
I got to hand it to Peter, his facial expressions are just pure gold, but what's even more interesting is that I just realized he made the crowd upset so that they can all agree on trial by combat, effectively turning the situation toward his favor. It's pure genius!
Tyrion: I demand a trial by combat. Ned Stark: Oh, shit, I could've done that? EDIT: Holy fuck, I thought this was obvious, but people seem to be forgetting that Ned could've picked a champion. Tired of everyone acting like I'm glossing over the fact that he was injured at the time. EDIT AGAIN: Stop blowing up my facetious comment with the same replies. I get it.
Ned had already confessed , he couldn't demand a trial by combat. If he had known Joffrey would double cross him he would most likely have demanded it.
Yes, still is.The one with Daeny and Drogon is close behind...but that scene is great thanks to a lot of people, from director, to screen writer and, of course, great actors. But this scene, with Tyrion, is pure gold pouring out of Peter Dinklage's mouth. Only he is responsible for the quality of the scene, he delivered his speech flawlessly. They could have filmed it with an iPhone camera, for all I care, would still be my favorite.
+Anne Marie I'd say the directing also has to do with it, as flawless as his performance is. The powerful camera angles, the way it swings behind him as he addresses the audience with contempt, the lighting, the final look between Tywin and Tyrion as they both take in the turn of events, it's fantastic.
You can tell by Prince Oberyn's face that he knows the truth and he can see that Tyrion is telling the truth. He also knew that Shae was lying when he says "how could you know all this?". Am i the only one who thinks hes a good character aswell? also the actors perfect for him. But this is probably my favorite scene from GoT so far.
@@vivalasexy Syrio stole the scene everytime he showed up in the series, but also in the books there was a lot more lore behind Braavos, and what the first sword entails. Its a shame they didnt go further with the Iron Bank and the faceless in the show.
I love Peter's acting skills. You can see that he's smiling and making a serious face and again getting frustrated within seconds, just like a person who's stressed so much from the inside that even their emotions doesn't help them. This scene was so good.
One of the best and most powerful scenes of entire show. The purity of emotion, and how beautifully expressed through well articulated words. "I wish I was the monster you think I am "
That assumption might take away from the performance. It would suggest that Peter didn't need to act here, he was just playing himself and venting his own personal frustrations. I don't know whether Peter is that trivial on his relationship with his condition, and doesn't appear to have spent his whole life trying to drink & whore his way in denial (like Tyrion had - up until this point). This moment is very specifically a Tyrion/Tywin character arc moment (rather than a generic short person moment) - and Peter is acting it superbly.
Best GOT scene ever. You'll never convince me otherwise. The music right at the end is the cherry on top that makes it deserving of the chef's kiss. Incredibly good acting by Peter Dinklage.
That scene was jaw droppingly incredible! When I first saw it I got goose bumps. I never really liked Tyrion but this season I've gained a whole lot of respect for him.
Nope. Jaime knew what Tyrion got himself into! He knew that Cersei would pick the Mountain as a fighter and pay more than Tyrion could (Bronn) anyone who might fight for him! He knew Tyrion was toast!
If Jaime volunteers, Tyrion goes free. Tywin and Cersei wouldn't let him die fighting The Mountain, so they'd have to make something up to call the whole thing off.
I feel like Peter uses this scene to convey the anger he held for a while at people labeling him as "that one dwarf actor" who would portray leprechauns or other roles making fun of his physical differences. This scene lets him speak not only to the other actors, but the audience, and it is a MASTERPIECE.
When the rains of castamere starts playing you can see how proud Tyrion is for defending him self. "When he opened the door the light from within threw his shadow clear across the yard and for just a moment Tyrion Lannister stood tall as a king" Chills, chills everywhere..
Can you imagine if Tyrion kept on this darker path. Not only would we get more examples of Peter’s amazing abilities as an actor like this one, but it’d make sense for the ending. If a bitter and spiteful Tyrion was there poisoning Dany’s mind, then her decision later would’ve made more sense.
@@slashslash92 basically, When Jamie saves tyrion from trial He thinks it's the last time he will see tyrion so he confesses that tyrion's love taisha wasn't a whore and tywin made Jamie lie to tyrion that she was a whore (in case you didn't know, tywin made dozen soldier rap* her and then made tyrion do her). This completely sets off tyrion and he swears he will burn kings landing and kill cerci and Jamie. He also tells Jamie how cerci is sleeping with other men (furthering the plot of Jamie leaving cerci which didn't happen in show) And this will eventually lead to tyrion corrupting dany into burning kings landing. Which wasn't in the show because DnD are idiots. There are even bigger plot lines DnD removed from the show, I honestly tell you to read the books. 100x better then the show
"I wish I was the monster you think I am." If the show had followed the books, we would have seen Peter Dinklage's Tyrion become that monster, like we see in Dance of Dragons. If GRRM ever finishes the books (he won't), watching Tyrion's return to Westeros with no aim other than to unleash as much destruction as he can will be something out of everyone's nightmares.
@@slashslash92 The current book (and I think another 1-2 are slated past the one in the works) have been in the works since season...5? released someone help me out. The problem is GRRM writes very 'organically' to put one person's take on it, it's also why the show diverged so far away from the books. He just writes what comes to him and runs with it, one of (if not the last books) actually became so drawn out he split it into 2 separate books. Martin from what I've seen has a tendency to ramble (not in a bad way, mind) but he hasn't released a book in almost a decade now.
LOL, Tyrion just realised that he backed the wrong horse, and that the true king of Westeros and bringer of justice, is and has always has been STANNIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
he did realize he backed the wrong horse and that he should be backing a new one but its not Stannis. hes too dull for him and its not gonna work with that crazy red woman stuck on him
It is really incredible that I can remember large parts of this dialogue even after years of not watching it. In my opinion it really shows how good the writing, acting and audience engagement this show had at its peak
This scene still gives me chills even years later. The emotion that Peter Dinklage brought to his final speech is just gut-wrenching. His acting was phenomenal, truly one of the best actors out there.
I can tell tryion is a very even-tempered man, being one myself I know it takes A LOT to piss him off, he probably was containing a Lot of anger during his trail, but seeing shae the woman he loved most stab him in the back like that was his breaking point, and at that moment he let it all out, years worth of pent-up anger. He let them all know exactly what he thought of them. One of the most satisfying scenes in the show of you ask me.
TheSM4e Jack Gleeson definitely deserves one for his cumulative career on the show. Officially, they judge just from one submitted episode anyway, so he could win just from The Lion and the Rose alone.
how his voice deepens with rage and the growls and snarls like his bellows are from the pit of his soul sent chills down my spine the first time I watched this omg
As great as it was for Aaron Paul to win for Breaking Bad the year its final season was nominated, Dinklage should have won for this scene alone. I mean, this is the best GoT scene, hands down.
this is great dramatic acting but nobody talks like this. Aaron Paul's performance in the final few episodes of breaking bad eclipsed any individual example of good acting
@@nitinkapoor1369 breaking last season was probably the best tv season ever so it would be unfair to compare it from that point of view. Peter’s performance in this scene was outstanding and he would have won any award for that if it hadn’t been for Aaron Paul, his acting on BB was superb.
8 years later, and I stand by the view that 2:27 is the precise moment GoT peaked. It wasn't an immediate decline, but it doesn't get any better than that shot of Tywin. The emotions and level of "oh shit" the audience feel is unparalleled and is never matched ever again in the show's run.
That stare wasn't just ordinary, at that movement Tywin actually realised that Tyrion is actually him or might be better than him, and he is good with his tactics.
The only scene up so far that ive been replaying countless times, the satisfaction, the anger, the emotions, honestly one of the most genius scenes ever casted, cant get enough of this man!
At 2:14 notice how Oberyn attempts to hide his seemingly, inherent, massive erection... for everything, all of the time. From that point on it looks like everyone noticed and it just got awkward, even for Tyrion.
One of the best scenes i've ever seen in fiction. A man so above the rest and so understanding of his condition and yet so unapreciated and belittled by even his own family who breaks because of that unreasonable hatred and the reality of the status he cannot overcame. It's really heartbreaking. The brilliance of this scene comes from the fact that a gimmick of tyrion from way early in the series becomes so important and dramatic later on.
If Shae hadn't witnessed against him, i think Tyrion would have taken the offer and gone to the wall. Bringing in Shae as a witness was just a step too far...
i just wish he'd work on his British accent a little bit more...his acting in moments like this is so good that it more than makes up for it but it would be flawless if his accent wasn't all over the place

I wish Oberynn just finished the mountain imagine how epic it would have been seeing cersei fall to her knees as the mountain died and Oberynn just goes and makes and drinks more wine and Tyrion walks up stares at Tywin and just smirks
Makes out with elaria and drinks more
Plus then we would be rescued from the whole sand snakes storyline, leaving room for characters like lady stonehart
I wish that instead of the revenge of Elia continued and Arienne was in the donre plot. She will know how to play the game of thrones
But this is game of fucking thrones everything except what you want will happen
kill Oberynn was the worst decition Martin made, such an interesting character wasted only to give Cercei a frankenstain bodyguard that she would get anyway, also Tyrion wouldn't stay at kingslanding anyway beacuse he would never be save so he stil be traveling to the east and continue his story.
would be much better see what Oberyn would do, than see the mountain becomes even more booring than he allready was
I wish we got more of this Tyrion in the later seasons.
In the books after this, he pretty much has a massive heel turn and you can't blame him.

This is some of the finest television ever. So sad how the quality went down hill so much in the final seasons.
Watching this scene brought me into tears for multiple reasons
It was the most upsetting ending to what could have been the greatest show ever
What do you mean? Game of Thrones was amazing throughout its entire runtime! Shame it ended at season 4.
First 4 seasons are peak television
I think it was still great till the mid of season 7.. then it went downhill

People are not giving enough credit to Ramin Djawadi! The use and composing of the music in this scene is unmatched.

By far my favorite scene from the series so far.
is it still?
STILL IS
Still
You can tell by Prince Oberyn's face that he knows the truth and he can see that Tyrion is telling the truth. He also knew that Shae was lying when he says "how could you know all this?". Am i the only one who thinks hes a good character aswell? also the actors perfect for him. But this is probably my favorite scene from GoT so far.
I have seen the complete series still this is my favourite scene

I love Peter's acting skills. You can see that he's smiling and making a serious face and again getting frustrated within seconds, just like a person who's stressed so much from the inside that even their emotions doesn't help them. This scene was so good.
agreed entirely on his excellent acting.
This is masterpiece of perfect actor
My god, this season was absolute fire.

My favourite character from the show will always be Hodor.
Idk I liked him from the pilot episode dialogue with Jon Snow.. He was so good in Season 1 and 2
Peter Dinklage gives me goosebumps, seriously. His voice and expressions are just so fucking intense!
One of the best and most powerful scenes of entire show. The purity of emotion, and how beautifully expressed through well articulated words.
"I wish I was the monster you think I am "
This scene still gives me the chills every time I watch it.
how are you in 2021
think peter dinklage is giving out his real life frustration in this..; "ive been in trial all my life for being a dwarf"
Call me dwarf one more time!!!
I love how Jaime's hand is always near his sword during this whole scene. Like if anyone makes the wrong move, he's ready to draw.
He always cared
Best GOT scene ever. You'll never convince me otherwise. The music right at the end is the cherry on top that makes it deserving of the chef's kiss. Incredibly good acting by Peter Dinklage.
Peter Dinklage just won himself an Emmy.
He won Oberyn
Yeah... every else in the running just threw their hands in the air like "GOD DAMMIT".
That scene was jaw droppingly incredible! When I first saw it I got goose bumps. I never really liked Tyrion but this season I've gained a whole lot of respect for him.

The sadness on the face of Jaime that he can't fight for his brother
Nope. Jaime knew what Tyrion got himself into! He knew that Cersei would pick the Mountain as a fighter and pay more than Tyrion could (Bronn) anyone who might fight for him! He knew Tyrion was toast!
And Oberynn’s reaction! Like, YES, finally he can avenge his family… He did. Sorta 😬
@@Boobalopbop almost
@@nathanl.4528 Jaime at his best could beat the Mountain.
I love the look on Tywin's face. It looks like he's thinking, "If only you hadn't been a dwarf you would've been my PERFECT HEIR."
He would never think that. He's far too consumed with hatred for Tyrion that he would never acknowledge any good things about him.
Well, Tywin think about his legacy more then anything else.
I had so much relief and happiness whenever he finally had this outburst it was a long time coming and it made the show that much more intense.
It make no sense to remove Jamie's confession.
Did they ever give a reason why DnD remove it?
@@bait5257 they wanted to keep the bromance.
@@leilameow9582 so they just completely removed an entire plot line that was going to lead to kings landing burning?
@@bait5257 What aws Jamie's confession about? I didn't read the books, can you give me a brief summary
@@slashslash92 basically,
When Jamie saves tyrion from trial
He thinks it's the last time he will see tyrion so he confesses that tyrion's love taisha wasn't a whore and tywin made Jamie lie to tyrion that she was a whore
(in case you didn't know, tywin made dozen soldier rap* her and then made tyrion do her).
This completely sets off tyrion and he swears he will burn kings landing and kill cerci and Jamie. He also tells Jamie how cerci is sleeping with other men (furthering the plot of Jamie leaving cerci which didn't happen in show)
And this will eventually lead to tyrion corrupting dany into burning kings landing. Which wasn't in the show because DnD are idiots.
There are even bigger plot lines DnD removed from the show, I honestly tell you to read the books. 100x better then the show

AND THE MUSIC
"I wish I was the monster you think I am."
If the show had followed the books, we would have seen Peter Dinklage's Tyrion become that monster, like we see in Dance of Dragons. If GRRM ever finishes the books (he won't), watching Tyrion's return to Westeros with no aim other than to unleash as much destruction as he can will be something out of everyone's nightmares.
Why won't GRRM finish the books?
@@slashslash92 You must be new here. Or absurdly optimistic.
So basically we might get a more supportive Tyrion of Dany turning king's landing to ash?
That could be cool.

Tyrion really isn't meant to be even tempered. Especially in the books.
Give this man the Emmy already!
He already has 2. I think it should go to Jack Gleeson or Charles Dance.
TheSM4e Jack Gleeson definitely deserves one for his cumulative career on the show. Officially, they judge just from one submitted episode anyway, so he could win just from The Lion and the Rose alone.

At 2:14 notice how Oberyn attempts to hide his seemingly, inherent, massive erection... for everything, all of the time.

It's been 8 years. And yet i know every single word of Tyrion's speech. That how awsome this scene is!
If words were venom, he could have poisoned the crowd from his anger alone.
I don't think they could have picked a better actor than Peter Dinklage to play Tyrion. He's an absolutely amazing actor.
If Shae hadn't witnessed against him, i think Tyrion would have taken the offer and gone to the wall. Bringing in Shae as a witness was just a step too far...
The sound quality... The background theme ... ugh 💔 such a piece of art 🎉
Seeing Tyrion finally stand up to his terrible father was worth all the gold in Westros.
Brilliant acting as well!
Peter Dinklage deserves an EMMMYYYYY
He was great throughout the series
BUT THIS SCENE KILLS IT.
Actually he already has won one. But for this scene he deserve like... at least 10 more....
And the Emmy goes to...
Peter deserves another Emmy, that is for sure. This scene is excellently executed, and extremely well done.
I think Theon deserves the Emmy, his personification of a broken man is outstanding.
It should've gone to Michelle Fairley last season for her speech in the Red Wedding
i just wish he'd work on his British accent a little bit more...his acting in moments like this is so good that it more than makes up for it but it would be flawless if his accent wasn't all over the place
Fawad B Meh, it can't be helped, I suppose an inaccurate accent is a fair price for extraordinary acting skill?
Hands down the best acting in the series by the best character. His voice is just magic during this speech. And to end with a stare between Tyrion n Tywin followed by Rains of Castamere
