Now that i have watch this...i shall sit back and wait for the WLED hack
Considering it's using the SmartLife app I almost wonder if there's already an ESP32 inside.
We are built different, because I'd *hate* putting lights up in 85-degree weather; I'd inevitably get sweat onto the sticky pads. I prefer the cold ;).
Lol valid points! I guess I should say my preferred temp to install would probably be mid 60's lol. But I would take 85 and sunny over 10 degrees with a negative 5 wind-chill all day every day lol.
Next: Do a WLED conversion
Nice job as always Chris ;-)
Great find! Those lights look great! Can't wait to see what happens when you incorporate WLED.... Keep up the great work.
Great video, and the lights are definitely very bright. Personally I just hate the hot spots of each light, I wish it was diffused for a smoother look, but that's just my opinion. Good install and nice breakdown
If you install them further away from the exterior wall of your house it reduces the spot light effect quite a bit. Mine are about 8in out. With this setup you won’t be able to eliminate the spot light though. However, Govee has permanent outdoor light strips that eliminate the spot light effect all together if that’s what you would prefer. Spot light effect is more for a contemporary type designed house. The strip looks the best on a modern type designed home. In my opinion of course.
I wonder how much more wattage they draw and if the PSU is adequately sized (generally recommended to have an 80% load).
Thats a very good question! I might have to test things out with a larger supply and see if there is any difference!
@@ChrisMaherDIY Do you have a wattage meter (Kill A Watt or similar)? Assuming the PSU given with the kit has ratings labeled on it, just compare that to the wattage draw (are you able to do RGB White, or does it default to the white diodes? If not, I wonder what the most power hungry color option is).
I have 157 12V RGBW puck lights (similar to say Gemstone) on one of my WLED boxes, and at max power it draws like 220 watt (should be closer to 270 watt but I don’t power inject, visually it looks fine). I use a 350W PSU, that’s 63% load (77% if I had no voltage drop). However, using just the white diode at 50% for nightly use, it doesn’t even draw 30W, so I’m more than fine.
The actual maximum current is about 2.7A, the power supply is nominal power of 3.3A, and the load is 81.8%.
Hey Chris, another awesome video, as always! I didn't like the look of the lights, before installation, but the result was amazing! Looks wonderful on your house also! Hope you'll have a wonderful weekend mate! ❤
Thanks as always Chris!! Hope you have a great weekend as well and always good to hear from you!
Huge fan from India. Fellow LED enthusiast. Hoping that someday I can buy these products in India. Currently I use basic LED strips from local manufacturer called Havells.
Will it work with WLED?
Thank you Chris.
Have a great weekend Buddy.
Thank as always! You too!
@@ChrisMaherDIY 🤩
Excellent review as always Chris,
Someone has already asked my question about wled,
It would be so nice if these companies would be available in the UK,
I hope you are all well 🙏
Looking forward to an update video to this now that the new Govee Outdoor Lights 2 is out!!!
If they work with WLED, I'll definitely get some. I'm not a fan of the Smartlife or Tuya apps. Id set them up in home assistant.
ASAHOM S1060 series permanent outdoor lights are LED, using WS2811 to drive the LEDs, there are two WS2811 for each light, the first WS2811 is used to drive the RGB, the other WS2811 drives the 2700K and 6500K, the remaining one pin does not work.
tuya lacks a lot. it's bad as an app. they haven't even collaborated with signal rgb yet.
Will we have to cut wires to connect to a wled conversion?
Or is there an API so i can select presets using home assistant?
@@asahom5950That probably is enough info to do an WLED conversion. You could probably make more sales by providing a local API so we could control via home assistant, or upload wled onto the controller.
Wow first off you did a great job on the install! I really liked how it looked in the early evening! 👍 👍
Thanks so much for watching and for taking the time to comment! I agree! They did a good job of adding a nice glow in the early evening for sure!
Looks great, but will it WLED? 🤔

I feel the same way about these that I do the GoVee version: I hate that they put out the little triangle of light with gaps in between. I don't know why but it just feels wrong.
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!
I feel the exact same way.
It's just a trend that will probably fade away once someone comes up with a different look. For what they are, these probably have a HUGE markup. A fool and his money...
WLED with my Eufy lights still working fine but nice to see the price is not as crazy as Govee
Thanks for watching! Yeah more competition is never a bad thing!
Hi Chris! LOVE your videos and your content! They are incredibly creative and helpful! I was wondering if you might create a video with how to integrate WLED with QLC+ lighting software and maybe how to connect a tactile controller to control different WLED settings on command. Thanks for all the hard work you do!
I'll have to look into that program as its not something that has been on my radar! Thanks for the recommendation!
@ChrisMaherDIY Thanks Chris! It's would super cool integration for programming and controlling light shows in the winter time :)
It looks amazing. How far are the lights from the wall?
Chris, My house measures 250' all the way around. . What would you purchase to light the whole house..
It's a single story ranch. Thanks
For everybody asking for WLED conversion..... It's most likely the same as any other WLED conversion. Just swap the data lines, keep the power wires seperate, and always ground everything together. Your LED count is how many actual sections that are controllable with an IC. These look to be indiviually addressable. They still look kind of gapped out and not as smooth as they should. Probably why they are 2 times brighter. I think all those products are way too bright and lose color saturation before even being 50% of their max brightness scale. These do have a unique look to them though. Video is usually difficult to show what you actually see lol. Im sure that gets real fun at ultra bright. Having both softwares on a switch is what id do. I actually wouldnt ever buy something like this, especially since i know about WLED.
What would you buy for outdoor LEDs?
Chris, have any recommendations for a vaulted ceiling raceway? I want the strips to shine along the ceiling wall. Having trouble finding a manufacturer that does this.
Thanks for this review, Chris! My concern with this product is that I've never heard of "ASAHOM". It sounds like another generic Chinese brand and has the potential of coming with quality issues and unreliable service that is unfortunately common. I've never had a bad product from Govee and their community is stellar. The idea of brighter and more LED's at a lower cost is appealing though!
Thanks for watching buddy! Those are valid concerns for sure. Every company has to start somewhere and only time will tell! Quality of these seems on par with Govee but customer service is another important aspect that we will know more as Asahom continues to grow. Hope you have a great weekend!
@@ChrisMaherDIY same to you! Thanks again!
Instead of brighter they need to do higher density strips. The struggle is between powering the stuff efficiently and cooling it properly. Also gapping it makes for an illusion of control with the addressability. They have to tailor to the general public.
👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿 Can't wait for the wled conversion
Yo can you please please 🙏 do a video of goove m1 to connect to a light switch / dinner switch while keeping the functionalities to the app 🙏 i watch all your videos and you have been helping me so much ❤
*dimmer
Are you able to cut these like the Govee lights?
Looking fwd to the WLED hack video
Have you looked at the Govee elite at Costco? Look at those and tell us what you think.
Can this work in any way with HomeKit? I literally just ordered the Govee set the other day!
is it possible top make these work with WLED? not a fan of the smart life stuff as it requires internet and isn't that customizable
I believe these run a similar type of chip that the govee pro's do (SM16825) which WLED does not yet support. Asahom did build a pretty solid interface using the smart life framework so its definitely a few steps above anything I've previously experienced using the smart life app. But would for sure be incredible if WLED added support!
SmartLife does not require internet, just WiFi 2.4ghz
Hello, ASAHOM S1060 permanent outdoor lights is customizable, you could individually control the color of each light or independently turn off single led light or create your own scene as you desired. If you do not control the lights via Smart Life app with internet connection, you could also control the lights via the 3-button control box: ua-cam.com/video/hyr_Mho6o8Y/v-deo.html

I don’t understand where your power source is on This house , mine is in the centre , how can I split in 2 opposite directions ?
Mine is on the bottom left side of the garage. If you only had 1 in the middle of your house I would probably try running an extension cord to be able to install starting at one end of the house. Thanks for watching!
I found these on Amazon and a couple of the five star reviews seemed like very bad translations. It makes me wonder.
Do you think I could get this shipped to the UK and should be as simple to set up as it looks?
That's a good question! I'm not sure how it would work power wise since I believe you have different standards in terms of electricity so I think it would require a different plug.
Zero chance of me installing the Smart Life app, needs WLED.
Indeed. There's a high likelihood that the app will not be supported for very long. I'm not putting up new lights every few years. Also needs Home Assistant.
Great video, do they also come in black or is just white available ? Also is pricing the same as Govee or no ?
Thanks for watching! Just white and they are cheaper than the Govee Pro kits.
is it that hard to check the link yourself?
Yes, they are also available in black for $150 to $300
ok, but is there a local API?
Any luck with using WLED to drive this kit instead of their controller?
I believe these run a similar type of chip that the govee pro's do (SM16825) which WLED does not yet support. But hopefully its something wled can add in the future because that would be awesome!
Your links to the lights on Amazon are incorrect. They take you to a page that does not have any ASAHOM products on it!!
Can you please update?
The links are taking me to the correct place. Are you located in the US?
@@ChrisMaherDIY Im in the UK. Are they not available here?
US only as of right now :(
Does it work on home assistant, LAN mode? I don't wanna have to go through the cloud
Thanks for watching! No support for HA or Lan. Without the cloud you would then be using the physical remote it comes with.
Yes, ASAHOM S1060 permanent outdoor lights work with Google Home Assistant and Alexa. If you don't go through the cloud, you could also control the lights via the 3-button control box or remote control to get more functions: ua-cam.com/video/hyr_Mho6o8Y/v-deo.html
Hi
Ðo you know anyone who would ship these to the UK
Is this not a Govee rebrand?
Unfortunately I have a stucco house😢 FML

Stumbled across your videos. You seem very knowledgeable on rgb lights, so I wanted to ask you what I should do with my setup. I have lots of govee lights I can list them if you want me to and saw how much better wled and signal rgb are for customisability. Do you think I should stay with govee and keep on buying govee lights or save up and replace my lights with addressable lights. My budget is really tight because im a high schooler with no job.
Also your videos are really well made
@@Breadlover64 make the switch. It's way better than anything else. Insanely better. If you are all about your lights and want the coolest stuff that others can't even buy, then start doing it now. Keep in mind that these youtubers get free products from companies and display them here as advertising mostly. He can't give you the answer i just did. Or he would. You already know it's better and that's why you asked. It's ok, you can merge govee with WLED until it just fades away completely and you realize that all those strips are way cheaper than govee charges for them and their software is horrible on longer strips with huge segments and lack of control. Youn dont have to save up. It's cheaper instantly and thats even when getting the denser strips. Govee and other companies are laughable when you learn to DIY , but they do have to sell to the general public and make it beyond safe for the dumbest of customers. Be safe and start now. That doesnt mean to transform govee strips into WLED ones. THAT IS NOT LIKE THE REAL THING and a waste of time and money. good luck
@simonsezblah ty so much for your answer i really appreciate it. I think I'll use signal rgb since some of the lights i have already work with it and my razer keyboard and mouse.
@Breadlover64 I used signal rgb a couple years ago bc I had a lot of LEDs and lights in my computer i built. It conflicted with the other softwares sometimes. Had a couple things I liked in it and overall was too basic. If it would work my other software would br glitches from it and then even rebooting wouldn't fix it sometimes. I installed many many different computer lighting softwares. Try not to do that. I hope you enjoy it. If you ever want to learn wled and how to get setup just look through Chris's videos. He's pretty decent at showing entry level things in detail with video and explanations.
@Breadlover64 anything that I bought that had a cool shell or housing for the LEDs and controller I dismantled and removed the LEDs from. Even the individual addressable ones. I took out the LEDs and the controllers which at the time I didn't understand all of them the way they were wired. I had 17 different remoted and I wanted it all to sync bc I was making an ambient lighting to match my screen. Ran 144/m ws2812b in almost all of the things and everything looks better with WLED. Govee Aura Lamps. 1 of mine started glitching and I could have fixed the section that was glitches I think. Instead I took out the parts and kept them bc it's interesting and usable maybe someday. Wrapped 144/m around the inside of that and it's a 100 times cooler than it was. thing costed $60 or I'd rip apart my other one. Gave that one away. Everything can be better with individually addressable LEDs
WLED?
These lights are dope bro. I'm a Govee Wh0re, I install Govee, we're partners, I have over 40 devices currently connected in the App on my profile, I'm an LED Connoisseur and now on my way to become an LED Nerd if I'm not already and I LOVE LEDs bro. It's literally all thanks to you too and I mean it. Once I started watching your videos it gave me the ambition I needed to pursue Govee and making somewhat of a career out of it now. It's a dream come true. THANK YOU CHRIS!!!!!!!
By the way these lights look INSANE I can't wait for mine!!
So cool to hear and humbled to know I played a small part in you chasing your dreams!! Thanks so much for sharing!
No thanks. Im good with my Govee Pros. Ill upgrade to the Pro 2 or Pro 3 if i ever want to in the future.
I do wish Chris Maher was a little more honest with how he evaluates brightness. These new lights, which he boldly advertises as 2x brighter--whatever that means--are rated at 6,500 lumens for a 72 light strand (this is is their medium length, which will set you back $400 at the time of writing). What does 6,500 mean? Well, a normal household light bulb shines with about 1,000 lumens. A bright floodlight could be like 20,000 lumens. Anyone who knows anything about cameras knows that you can set the shutter and aperture to make very dim lights look bright against a dusk sky depending on how far into dusk you go. I just wish he'd use more clear and understandable metrics for brightness.
Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment! In the video I talk about how each light has a max brightness of 90lm which is close to double that of the govee pro kits max brightness. I try to keep things pretty high level in my videos since in the past when I have gone more into the details, audience retention drops off significantly during those parts. I'm happy to try doing that sort of thing again if people think its valuable but data suggests that most people are bored by that. When recording I always try to have settings adjusted so that what the camera captures is as accurate as I can possibly get to what my eyes are seeing. Hope that helps!
@@ChrisMaherDIY That makes sense.
He’s also have a fairly hefty price tag compared to Govee
Thanks for watching! They are cheaper than the Govee Pro's but more expensive than the non govee pro version.
No Matter support, hard pass.
Need something that's diffused. Can't stand the visibility of the sources.
Exactly, They make it brighter too. Which probably is extra annoying to look at
Not gonna lie as soon as I saw the WiFi name I disliked and stopped watching. Religon and politics should stay out of reviews.
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Hope you have a great day.
Is there a discord or place to contact you because I’m still having issues trying to get my lights to work.
