    Great video.. Thats what I would expect a professional install to look like. I didnt even know about those water proof heat shrink. I could have definitely used those both times I've put lights up. I wish Govee gave us some color options for the cables though so you didnt have to color match. Maybe one day

      I really appreciate you taking the time to view my video. I really like how you spilled out in your video what needs to make sense when installing these Govee lights. Everyone pays a pretty penny to buy these govee lights and everyone ask these questions but that’s the reason why they do it, so you can buy more. I’m trying to help to viewer so that’s why I started making videos on theses lights. I don’t know what happened to my comment on your page but I’d like to post again if your ok with it. Maybe one day we can collaborate on a topic. Good luck with your journey my man.👍

    I want to install these on my house but worried about the wiring sticking out like a sore thumb during the day. My siding and soffits are vinyl. I'm not spray canning on vinyl. They should consider selling grey, tan, etc colored wires. Your video and process was great except for the spray paint overspray. What happens when it comes time to paint the house?

      Hi and thanks for watching. These are items we discuss with our clients before we start any quotes. We have to make it clear before we proceed. This is a 3rd party product and warranties it comes with it is what you get. Of course, if we are in the area we will definitely replace a strand if it goes bad once the client requests warranty replacements or buys new strands. Our clients are fully aware and majority just want their lights up

    • @jbsdiytv
      @jbsdiytv  10 місяців тому +1

      Thank you for watching. The kit on the Govee website does say do not splice. Now, they say that cause if you do, it voids their warranty. That doesn’t mean they can’t be spliced but you need to have some knowledge of voltage drop when customizing your own length of wire jumps and take the amount of strands you have vs how many times you have to customize. Like I mentioned in the video, do all this at your own risk

    If it’s not to exceed 150ft, are you saying don’t even use the included 12ft extender if you have the 150ft kit?
    Also, at 12:16, I don’t understand what you mean when you said you did 4 splices on the 12ft extender.

    • @jbsdiytv
      @jbsdiytv  11 місяців тому

      We had 95 feet to the left so that is 1-100ft kit and 95ft to the right so that’s another 100ft kit. In each box, there is a 12’ extension. We used those two at the two longer jumps. Each side after using the provide extension and our custom jumps the total feet added is 124ft under the recommended 150ft
      If you buy a 150ft kit, it’s a different story. You can use what Govee provided.
      Sorry for the confusion. There were 2-12ft extensions used like described at the beginning of the video for planning and layout. At each location of those 12ft extensions, we spliced 2 times there and another 2times at the other to make those jumps possible.
      Hope this clears up your question

    Forgive me if this is already answered:
    You mention the white/green/red wire should only be used for “smaller jumps.” “Smaller” is relative. What length would be considered too long. I have a 14’ and 9’ gap I am trying to figure out. I am completely stuck considering Govee only provides ONE 12’ and does not sell additional strands by themselves. Please advise. Thank you very much.

      Hi there and thanks for watching. No worries at all. If you have just one small jump that is about 3ft then it’s doable but if you have multiple(at least 5) jumps then you will need to try and keep those under 2ft. On the first generation lights, the 100ft kit comes with one 12ft blank extension. The 150ft comes with two. On the Pros, comes with one 12ft blank extension and two 4ft. Hope this helps you

      We typically use the 18-3 or 20-3 for at least 2-3ft jumps if we have one or two jumps and 1-2ft if we have three to five jumps. If you have jumps longer than 6ft I don’t recommend using this with out some kind of data booster or splicing some lights in your custom extension because the lights themselves can be used as data boosters

      You probably already figured this out but could use liquid nails and or more clips on the soffit. Ive seen people install on the strip that is way farther than the 6in they recommend. It changes the way the light looks; less cone more mixed. What did you end up doing?

    • @jbsdiytv
      @jbsdiytv  11 місяців тому

      @mpsmoov128 yes we have started using way more clips than what Govee recommends. We purchased a bulk amount on Ali express since we are doing 1 govee install a day. Also, I don’t recommend using liquid nail on these lights. We have tested them out and during the installation the strand stop working so our installations are easily able to slide the strand out of the clips and replace a new strand. Also, if one goes out in a few years, they will damage when removed as wood and hardiplanks paint get removed from the surface. We install all our lights 2” from the wall using a 2x2” cube. We bring this up to every new client and they agree because they have seen my UA-cam channel. 6” is something we tried and our client ask us to move it closer cause they didn’t like the round effect. They paid us extra to do it

If none of this works, start troubleshooting. Grab your power adapter and controller and test each strand to respond to the factory reset

    When the time comes to paint, will it be adequate to just mask each light? Also, I wonder if there is a track system or similar to conceal the wires. I am not a fan of the exposed wires.

    • @jbsdiytv

      When it comes time to paint, they sale stickers on Amazon that are 7/8” diameter to fit on the lens. Not everyone is to worry about it, and I always ask them before install starts. Some have HOA that it’s written it needs to be on a track and color match so I get that so I accommodate them. Solely it’s the owners liability if it’s written and mentioned in the invoice. But it can be painted after. Yes the best track is @BearLightStudios

      @jbsdiytv  Рік тому +1

      Hi there. Thank you for watching my video. That is the 12’ extension provided by Govee. There were two jumps like this. 3 and 7. They were 9ft jumps only and I cut the connections off so that way we did not have all that extra line left on each one. Then those cut off connections, we used them in other locations we spliced the strands and put the heat shrink sleeves with the solder. I hope this answers your question. If you need to make small jumps, the link is in my description (18-3 BTF) Keep this in mind, 100ft box comes with one 12ft extension. 150ft box comes with two 12ft extension. Look at your house and see if you will need two major jumps. Unfortunately you can’t just order extensions last time I checked.

    • @jbsdiytv
      @jbsdiytv  Рік тому +1

      Hi there. Thank you for viewing the video and for your question. Yes we nail them twice and I recommend it for a few reasons. 1.) The 3M vhb pad has been failing in Texas heat. 2.) we apply small pressure to the line and as we unbox the strands, it is much more wrinkled than a crinkle cut fry so we make sure it has two anchor points. If one side were to get nailed and you pull the line slightly, then the clip will pivot. 3.) when they say permanent we shoot for permanent and for them not to fall years later

    Great video and great advice. I have just 2 comments or suggestions. First, I have discovered that when i use the solider and seal connectors sometimes the wire will poke through the plastic side causing a possible short situation. So i place a section of shrink tubing with the glue/sealer inside over the connectors as added insurance. Then also to further seal with another shrink tube over all three extrnded about 1/2 inch past each end. Second, i had enough overhang of my facia board that i put my lights on the back of the facia board aming toward the house. Thus hides the lights almost completely and lights up washing the house wall much brighter.

    • @jbsdiytv
      @jbsdiytv  Рік тому +2

      Thank you for commenting. I’ve never had that issue with this brand of solder and seal when you mention the wire poking through. I have had this issue when using just the heat shrink sleeve without the solder so I stop using that type. The sleeve on these have a silicone in them when they get heated up when properly done. I can see someone who doesn’t know how to work with these have that issue so that is a good suggestion to have another seal cover the hole connections after complete. Wouldn’t hurt. To answer your suggestion on the lights on the back of the fascia facing the wall. Installed this way for one of my clients because they asked for it to begin and they ended up not liking it. They would rather have the triangle effect like shown in my videos instead of blasting light shown on the wall. Of course they paid me to re do it and it wasn’t worth the hours and headaches we got from it so I’ll never bring that up. I do mention to all my clients that it isn’t track lighting. Most of them are ok with it because it’s a knockoff from bigger types of lighting at a lower cost. For the ones that will pay to paint the lights to match the soffit, I’ll do it for them. Also have to consider a house I did had 4 different soffits spacing in the front alone, some 5inches some 12 inches and the others in between. Casting would've been different in those areas. So to keep everything even as I always recommend 2 to 4 inches. Thank you, this will help with someone’s install

It was 95 ft to the left and 95ft to the right so this install had 2-100ft kits which were grouped later in the app. I have installed the lights to an outlet that was in a switch so no not necessarily consistent power if that’s all you have. The system didn’t work until I shortened the jumps to about 6’. What do I do if I need longer jumps at 11’ or 12’ ? Will use if the two 12’ jumps supplied by Govee do the trick? What if you don’t have male and female Govee ends to add on like in your video? Appreciate the help. Thanks for the reply.

      Awesome. Glad the videos could help with your install. What kit did you end up buying? Pros or no Pros? Once you provide me with lil more info to the kit you bought I should be able to help out. One thing I can say is that if you need more than 12ft jumps we have spliced 3-4ft in the middle of the 12ft extension. The signal boxes in the Govee extensions need to remain

      I have the H705C kit. 150’ with two 12’ Govee extensions. I needed to cut and splice at two different points to reach a roof peak. I used 18 gauge 3-wire jumps that were initially about 11’ each. This resulted in flickering about half way past the first jump. When trouble shooting, I cut the first jump down to about 6’ and the prob was solved until the next jump. When I cut the second 11’ jump down to about 6’ … entire prob solved and entire system works fine. But I really need those two jumps to be about 11’ each to hide and run the wires correctly.

If you decide to do this on the picket side(usually to the street) then the white wire will stand out and the lights will need to be put on their sides if you want the triangle effect. Or you can face them out. If you do it on the inside, it would work on the edge of the top rail 2x4 with the adhesive pad and clips. This install will be close to a home installation look.

      The Brad nails will be loose on aluminum/metal soffit. I would definitely get one full 200ft kit to light up your front and keep a 100ft where it’s less visible to the view. Not sure how your house is positioned in a cul de sac or at corner but use your best judgement with that. Just know that you can group your devices

    • @jbsdiytv
      @jbsdiytv  9 місяців тому

      Hi and thanks for watching. On the 150ft kit, it comes with 2-12ft blank jumper extensions. We have made about 3-4 custom jumps that were about 2ft and we had no issues. If your splicing within your install then anywhere is fine. Cut, then take up or down to next soffit. Use 18gauge-3 to make your jumps. If your ending them, anywhere but seal them well to waterproof them. Make sure you add that end cut strand as a full strand in the device segments

      @@jbsdiytv awesome thanks for the reply , does it matter where I start? I thinking I can do it with only on jump from first story to second story, I like how you started with one led right at peak! But if I start at one end it would be luck to make that happen!! lol

    • @jbsdiytv
      @jbsdiytv  9 місяців тому

      @@phytphyr it is difficult to say where you should start as each home has different scenarios. If you want to hurry up and get it up there then mistakes might happen. Take an extra 30mins-1hr to plan everything out. See were your peeks are at. Check how many jumps you have. If you’re trying to get a specific light at the peek, measure from there to the starting point and see if you’ll need 2 or 3 strands based off the measurements. Then you have a general idea on how many light bulbs it will take to cover from the peek to the power outlet.
      Another way would be if you have one jump, you can start the end of a strand there and use the provided 12ft blank extensions to make the jumps keeping factory connections without splicing. Then work towards your power, then come back and finish the other side of the jump
