Holy Cow Chris, I can't believe how quickly you've gone from you making them walk panels and light shapes for your wall out of wood and LED strips (I forget the actual name) to today with a house front like this and that computer desk!, not to mention all the subs,
It really couldn't of happened to a nicer bloke, you are flying mate, long may it continue.

These do come in black, unlike the previous gen. Probably easier to make them "disappear" on many houses than white. The splicing kit is fine and all but I'd probably still use some Posilocks and shrinkwrap. Almost toolless, and much less gigantic blobs than this, but for people not comfy with working with wires I can see the splicing kit being nice.

Looking great Chris! I live in an apartment so I can't get as elaborate as you, but I do have 2 sets of curtains on my balcony that look great and one set of curtains inside that I constantly play with. One thing I would love to see is more in depth on creating your own animations for the curtains, specially with 2 or more joined. Thinking out loud here, getting them to interface with WLED instead of Govee's controller might be an interesting experiment. Keep the videos coming Chris, always look forward to seeing what you have coming up next.

Any recommendation on how to attach the ends of the strands onto the door to keep them in place? I'm reading that others have their lights getting tangled and constantly need fixing.

However If you didn't want to untangle them I think these would work well. amzn.to/3FZEoOQ I would install them maybe 12 inches from the bottom of each strand to keep them from crossing. That would be the first thing I would try!

I have the curtain lights on my garage as well but living in Kansas where 40mph winds are the norm it's hard to keep them untangled. I really wish Govee would improve the linked mode for the curtain lights as they really pushed that feature as a selling point. Awesome man! Some of those scenes are quite gaudy but whatever, blinky lights are so fun haha. The garage and curtain lights really look amazing with the animations. Cost is a problem as I believe I would be looking at $500+ just to do front of my house 2 sets. Same with Christmas tree lights. Expensive. Govee and Hue are not cheap lights but both seem to be high quality and that’s means they cost more.

Thanks so much for watching! Yeah its not cheap but I think they are going after the market of people that pay to have a company come out and install lights like this on their house. The cheapest I could find in my area to just install the equivalent of the permanent outdoor lights was $2,500 dollars. The cost of everything from govee on my house is around $1,000 dollars and took me about 4 hours to install everything.

Good point. I was thinking the same regarding neighbors who pay to have lights installed. I always wondered how much they pay. $2500 for Christmas lights. Crazy.

Expensive? Seems cheap for what it does. 10 yrs ago something like this might have cost multiple thousands.

@@OMGWTFLOLSMH Bullet pixels are dirt cheap but you do have to put in the time and labor into wiring and setting everything up. I think these puck lights are a bit absurd at $400 for 60 LEDs especially when you consider that you're locked into the Govee ecosystem and can only control them the way they want you to.

Great video, Chris. These lights look awesome, I have a question can these curtain lights be controlled with WLED app for Pixel animations?
    EDIT:
Well I did watch thus again and see that it will work so I assume it will do the curtain also, thanks again for all your helping videos 😊

The track you used for the curtains, muzata ones, does the track need to be as deep as it is, meaning the deep one? Or can we get the more shallower one instead no one that's like half the price?

Can you explain the 12 foot extension on the Govee Pro lights? Looks like you used to go from the 1st floor to 2nd floor however that looks shorter than 12’. How did you hide the excess? It cannot be shortened?

For the garage how do you keep the cables above when you open and close the garage? When it opens doesn’t it require more cable as the top of the garage door rises, then when closing the cables tension would release of course causing much more slack. I’m trying to figure out that out now cause when the garage door up it’s fine but once it’s down all the excess wire gets in the way and I have to halfway open the door to pull them back up and straighten them out. Just seeing if you had any ideas

The Pro kit lumen per pod is higher. Dont need as many light pods as the regular kit to illuminate the same area.

If you have any extra diffuser channels maybe you could find a way to attach them to each of the bottom lights on the curtain lights to provide some weight on the strings. It could help weigh them down or you could even stick them to door like the top row so the strings stay straight and prevent any tangling if there is any wind. It also could help the lights stay facing forward. Just a thought. Keep up the great work!

That's a really good idea!! Someone mentioned that where they live is windy and they get tangled all the time so that would solve that problem! Probably would just have to use something different than 3m tape with the extra weight but that would be easy to find something else! Thanks for watching!

@@ChrisMaherDIY given that the garage door bends, you may need to have 2 or 3 horizontal mid-rails that have some slack, or a series of spacers, guides/loops that can hold the vertical lengths/strings where the grid should be.
It might be better to have a series of horizontal guides for each garage door panel, so that if someone grabs the string to cause trouble, eg cats, dogs, small children, the grid alignment has some slack, but also won't pull the rest of the string down. I guess it depends how hard it is to repair a single string, or have to salvage after someone walks past with scissors at 2am for halloween.

I have an idea for this. You make a long piece of thin wood that you paint white and you hot glue the bottom of the curtain lights to this, then you adhere some stretch material on the back side of this wood plank and connect that stretch material to the underside of the bottom of the garage door so it comes on the inside of the garage and you affix to the inside of the garage panels, you make it lightly taught with the garage closed and when you open the garage the stretch material allows it to stretch as needed without affecting the lights, because it's the stretch material that is expanding and not the lights. If hot glue won't hold the lights you could staple each row of lights to the wood plank and paint over the staples with white paint as well.
I've seen this concept of stretch material with banners you can put on your garage and figure that would work perfect with the govee curtain lights.
