Perfectly timed video, I've been looking at these kits for a few days now. I just started the video but I'm confident that after this the decision will be a doddle after one of the insanely thorough comparos you do.
Wow, you’ve outdone yourself here! Thanks for the honest, unsponsored review. This definitely took a lot of work. I think I’m going to go with the Eufy since I already have so many of their products, but it’s close with the regular Govee. Thanks again!
Thanks a ton for this video! I've been seeing a lot of Govee reviews lately, and I was considering them... but after your review, I'm leaning toward YPS. It just seems like a lot easier to get a "clean" install with those, and I'd really not have to climb up on a ladder in the dark to try adjusting individual bulbs. That, along with the higher density allowing for more flexibility, I'm really leaning that direction. Only downside is the Govee would be ready to go for the wife to start playing with, but YPS is gonna put a lot on my plate to get to the same place ;)
YPS is definitely better if you feel comfortable, or feel like you might want to do more hobby type stuff down the road. If you just want lights, and you don't want to expand later then Govee is the way to go. Eufy is a nice middle ground.
Absolutely incredible video. Mind blown on your commitment to excellence and thoroughness... as always! I'm a latecomer to this one. Darn... YPS puck track went up to $345 per 50ft it appears. On the flipside, the Govee non-pro and Eufy go on sale for < $200 for 100ft.

Just finished installing the Govee's a few days ago, and after seeing this I feel pretty good about my choice. The price point was awesome ( they were on sale for Prime Day 2 ) so factoring that in they are great for the money. Now I kind of want to mess with WLED though...
I just did some Ray Wu RGBW TM1814's and their aluminum track, they look awesome (similar to the YPS but way brighter) and the warm white is excellent. No bleed through from the blue like you get with some LEDs. Pricey though. 30M of track, 14 strings (280 pixels) and meanwell power supply for about $650CAD to my door.
Bro serious? Looking the Ray Wu store it looks like 30M of track is $1k plus $600 for shipping to here in the US. That's before the strings and power supply...
Excellent comparison video. I bought the GoVee permanent outdoor lights, non-pro version back in July and just got them installed over the last few weeks. I’m very happy with the way it looks. I had made a cardboard template to keep the light nodes 3 inches from the wall for installation without having to keep pulling out a tape measure or ruler. So that was a useful thing. If I were to do it again, I would probably bring the lights 4 inches out from the wall. I don’t see any advantage to the Govee pro other than the warm white lights and it’s not really something I would be using very often. Plus, I’d rather have the brightness and more lights than the Govee Pro array gives. I have thought about running a separate string, just for warm white, if such a thing exists, but I would only be using that for security, or perhaps non-holiday accent lighting, but I don’t know. It’s still not worth it to me to get the Govee pro at this time. I took my time spacing the light nodes over the center of large windows, and other features of the house, so that worked out fairly well, and I think the wired system as opposed to a track system provides more flexibility for this. The wires are not really visible at all from the front of my house unless you get right underneath the eaves. So that doesn’t concern me very much. I definitely recommend buying more clips though that’s essential I think.
My go to now is tru-tone bulbs. They use the old school c7 and c9 connections (the best of all Christianmas lights ever) and they use the warm white long LED filaments with a colored glass giving them the most authentic non-flickering incandescent look you can get!
Love the video, I am sorry I couldn't help but think "Make your neighbors, hate you with this one simple trick... hang 6 different LED lights up at once!"
Greetings from Australia! Thank you so much for all the time, effort & money you put into these reviews. They are amazing. Especially renting the cherry picker lift must have been expensive & a pain but we really really appreciate it. Just don't go bankrupt with your reviewing addiction.
Great video as always! I totally agree with you about needing to have a warm white. It's a non-starter for me for permanent install. Would be able to use year round with warn LEDe.
You are blowing my mind right now. How did you review all these in the time it took me to make one video? Aslo, I can put the Eufy in WLED!?! I had a similar track to the YPS 10 installed at my house but it has warm white. I paid a ton for the install. Amazing video!
I saw your video, the install looks great! Yeah, the eufy just takes a 5v data signal, so connect the data wire to a WLED controller, positive on the LEDs to the Eufy power supply, and negative of the Eufy power supply to both the LEDs and the WLED controller (common ground).
@@TheHookUp Eufy notes that you cannot cut to shorten, but I assume that is thrown out the window if you abandon their native controller and wire them to a WLED controller? I currently have strips similar to yours and am interested in adding the under soffit look as well, being able to add to WLED for xLights is key.
You can definitely cut and shorten them. I think the reason they say that is that the final LED in each string has a capacitor in it. I assume that makes it easier to cross gaps with the extension cables, but it could also be used for some sort of software detection of how many strands are attached.
I just installed the Oelo permanent lighting system a few days ago, and my neighbors thought I was crazy with the 45 foot man lift LOL. You installed 5 different systems! Your neighbors must think you’re absolutely insane. Great video. Oelo is a 36V system that comes in aluminum tracks, kind of like the YPS tracks you showed here. The Oelo is expensive, but it comes with everything you need and it’s 36V, which I really wanted because I had some extremely long runs and I didn’t want to deal with power injection. I looked at YPS, but I didn’t want to have to figure out my own power supply, controller, weatherproof box, etc. I paid about $2500 after taxes and shipping for 150 linear feet of the Oelo system in aluminum, which comes out to roughly 200 lights (I estimated a YPS system would have been in the high $1000s after I added all the other stuff I would need). And that Oelo price I paid is after a 25% discount, otherwise I probably wouldn’t have done it. Expensive, but like it said came with everything and all the components are very high quality. Except for the app - the app is pretty weak, but it does the job. Great customer service though, and I found out they’re working on a new controller/app that’s coming out in 2024.
Great review! I think Eufy's future doesn't look very promising if they continue with their fully closed ecosystem. Personally, after 5 years, I'm getting rid of their cameras and sensors. I got tired of waiting for a good integration with smart hubs.
I think it's interesting that they have responded to all the questions about integrations with "not yet", but I don't think they have plan s on doing it.
Homebridge works pretty good with the eufy cameras and much cheaper than competitors “hubs” that can only do one thing where homebridge can do much more
I buy all of my lighting for my larger projects in custom lengths direct from Ali Baba... I mostly use GS8208 or SK9822... I always order double what is necessary for my project if it's a long-term project, that way I have a plug and play replacement for any parts that fail. If the LED will be exposed to the elements, I always order IP68, which is not really obtainable on the market without a custom order. The sellers are often cool with a smaller order, so long as you know exactly what you want.
Phenomenal review. I picked up a set of the Govee Pro lights in white. The PSU on this does not say it is waterproof on the bottom or on the govee main site. I am not sure if you are US based or not. One thing I would incourage when doing reviews is to add feet/inches when mentioning sizes. Products here are always set to feet and inches, it one of the most annoying things about products coming from abroad like China/Govee. They do things in meters. But just a great and concise review. That light show rabbit hole is making me think twice about these pro govee lights. The eufy lights also had a feature which was unique. It could integrate into their camera's and security cams somehow. I know the govee pro have matter integration but that is still being hashed out to how well they play.
News: Eufy now sells the E22 series, which adds a cool white LED to the mix! So three LED's per light instead of two (RGB/warm white/cool white)... and it is currently the SAME PRICE as the E120 model you reviewed! (Currently on sale < $200 for 100ft!) This increases the peak brightness and color range significantly. Nice upgrade... only I'm hoping somebody figures out if it can work with WLED before I buy it!! Oh, I see that Govee also now has "Govee Permanent Outdoor Lights 2" which sit somewhere between the last gen non-pro and the pro.

Is there a led strip with great diffuser making it not obvious where each light source is suitable for outdoors? Not a fan of the 'spotlight' effect on the wall next to where each light is..
The YPS track would accomplish that if you tilted it back towards the wall by 45 degrees. Some of the neon rope lights that I reviewed a while back are waterproof if you REALLY didn't want any visible dots.
@@TheHookUp Ah got it thanks... sadly due to my location it seems none of the affiliate links work.. I'll look at the neon rope lights (hopefully I can find it :D )
As an electrician we install raintight equipment all the time. There is a difference between waterproof and rainproof. I'm sure most people won't submerge the power supply just a small gripe
... Narrator: As it would turn out, TheHookUp's prior content covering safe home network architecture was a warning & not merely instructional ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ @@TheHookUp
The Govee PRO product page states in the fine print it supports up to 150 feet so that explains the extra power.. Also in the fine print they indicate a new driver module coming soon to go further. The Splicing parts / kit is what really has me interested in the pro.. I am really not great at soldering and past efforts even with heat shrink, hot glue and silicon have had water get in so I had given up a long time on doing year round out door LEDs again.. IT is a shame it doesn't seem to work with WLED, I hope someone figures that out and adds support as light shows is something I would love to do down the road.
It's definitely something that could be solved with software/code addition to WLED. They respond to the WS281X protocol, but the I couldn't figure out what was happening... normally it's obvious when there is an extra channel being sent, or missing a channel, but half the string was doing the right thing and the other half was doing other weird colors. I don't know why only half of a strand would be affected.
Thanks for the video. Any chance you have a dedicated Holiday Lights update video in the works? I'm curious to see how your Holiday setup has evolved since your last video. :)
Amazingly timely. I really want to buy a set, but I also really want to do WLED in the future. And after seeing the pictures I realize I need that separate warm white LED too. Sounds like Eufy is the way to go for me. This is amazingly helpful, thanks so much.
@@TheHookUp- for 100% WLED DIY with pucks, do you think there's a cheaper route vs. buying the Eufy and throwing away the controller? I'd love it if I could just buy the strips/pucks themselves with no power supply/connectors/controller/etc.
@@TheHookUp Are the white LEDs on the Eufy individually addressable? Using the Uefy controller I can’t seem to set just one led on warm white while all others are off. Can it be done with WLED?
Great and timely video sir! For the Eufy lights, if you have and install more than 1 set, are they controlled interdependently well with the app? AND is it possible to add one segment to a set - having one set with 7 segments and the other with 5 segments? - my first floor has a bit more to cover than the 2nd floor.

Hi I’m looking into adding permanent lights on my house this year. Have you ever used or heard of enbrighten eternity lights? I’d love to see your opinion on them. There isn’t much out there about them but they seem to have a lot of really nice features and a lifetime warranty.
As always, great analysis and comparison Rob. I'd love to go the permeant route, but with a mid-century modern roofline, I don't have continuous soffits and my trim is not white. So any of these would stand out like a sore thumb in the off season. The quest continues ...
I was going to avoid buying a style I like that only comes in black, for that reason, but then I saw online that cords can be spray painted with Rustoleum. I just wonder how long it will last in the weather.
Nice video breaking it down. I do think you didn't cover the advantage of dedicated white led enough. If I am going to trouble of permanent mount most of year I want a warm white ambience lighting. Pure RGB white never looks right IMO
As always .. very informative video.. great effort … hats off to you… I’m planning to use yps.. can you pls advise which controller and power supply to use which is great and reliable
Have you reviewed “Ledating” outdoor lights. In case I missed it- where would you put them on your list. I like that Novostella comes in black, I wish the others did!
Bloody hell just saw your correction lol. Thanks for this. Not entirely sure why but on my string I had to swap W and G to get everything to work correctly
Great review but one thing I have NOT seen on any of these permanent light reviews is maintenance and repair. LED's are notorious to stop working LONG before the manufacture claims. This is not because of LED failure, it's typically a cheap circuit failure. What is the repair/replace process of a single failed puck in the middle of a string? Do the manufacturers even make this available or possible or do they consider the string disposable if things start to fail within a string? I haven't found any information on this from any of the manufacturers yet.
It would be the same as any other LED repair, just cut out the bad LED and splice in a new one. For me, I ended up with 2 extra LEDs after my install, so I could just keep those around in case I needed to repair one. That said, the heat dissipation on these appears to be very good and they didn't get noticeably warm, even after an hour+ of runtime, so the circuits should last a long time.
@@TheHookUp Yes I get that but let's just say you use 100% of the product for install. A year goes by or longer and you have a single LED fail in the line. Can you go back to let's say Govee and they can sell you a replacement LED fixture to repair your broken one?
For starters... Great video and perfect timing. That said, now im in a pickle. I saw your video from 2020 and around June of this year started working on getting 200mts of ws2812b, QinLED Uno and so on. Question: If you could do it again, would you go with the any of these or the DIY RGB strip? I like the effects you can make with the RGB, but LOVE the ease of install of these!
I like them both. The strips look much more "festive" to me, I have them pointed out towards the street so it's a very obvious effect while the wall wash pattern is a bit more subtle.
@@TheHookUp Appreciate the response. Guess you werent kidding when you said 'I respond to most of the comments'. My wife liked the strips so ease of install goes out of the door! Cheers mate!
Great video. I live in Ottawa Canada where usual winters include several feet of snow with temperatures ranging from -10 to -30 degrees Celsius. Cold, cold and more cold. How do these products react to these types of temperatures?
They are IP67 so they are technically only rated to -4 F which is -20 C, but they should be fine at -30 also. You should mount the power supply and controller somewhere inside though.
The DIY option is still going strong (you can see it in the flames in this video). The plastic diffusers have yellowed significantly due to UV, but colors and brightness are still good. I'm honestly amazed every time I fire them up and there are no issues after 5+ years.
@@tonverra Just a totally different look. My LED strips are pointed at the street, so you see the LEDs directly. The scalloped/lensed options are more of a wall wash, while the YPS track is a combo of wall wash and direct view.
Hello do you have a video explaining LED light strips, controllers and power supplies for longer than 16ft runs ....I have a pergola with 2 - 56ft sections? Thanks
Great breakdown, I’m very interested in this product category but I don’t have soffits just 5 inch rain gutters so I’m not sure it’s possible for my home built around 1960.

Nice, the template is good idea.
Great idea using the template, as popular as Govee is perhaps someone has made a 3d printable mounting bracket
Do you soffits? If so, what type and length of screw did you use?
What clips did you go with the ones that come with or did you find other clips that worked?
Yeah I’m kicking over the idea of running a warm white strip next to the Govee pixels as well just for later.
My go to now is tru-tone bulbs. They use the old school c7 and c9 connections (the best of all Christianmas lights ever) and they use the warm white long LED filaments with a colored glass giving them the most authentic non-flickering incandescent look you can get!
I wish they'd open up their website for orders already 😍
Technology Connections here on UA-cam has done some excellent videos about those bulbs.
Love the video, I am sorry I couldn't help but think "Make your neighbors, hate you with this one simple trick... hang 6 different LED lights up at once!"
Not gonna lie, the JLG manlift makes a LOT of loud beeping noises when you move it. Pretty sure my neighbor who works at home does hate me now.
Would love to see an updated video with all the nights lights getting released and which ones are WLED compatible.
@@TheHookUp Thanks for the info. I might have to try that out. I'm still have a ton to learn about what my WLED system can do.
@TechWithBrett xlights!
Thanks Rob. Great comparison as usual! Appreciate the effort! 😊
Great customer service though, and I found out they’re working on a new controller/app that’s coming out in 2024.
good timing for this video and very in depth as usual :)
These are awesome. Can you show us how you use them with the WLED controller. I think that would be the best way to go.
Yeah, I think I'm going to take a "week off" video mid November and show how I have all my light show stuff installed and setup.
As always that would be greatly appreciated.

Homebridge works pretty good with the eufy cameras and much cheaper than competitors “hubs” that can only do one thing where homebridge can do much more
Really excellent job. Man you did a lot of work. Covered all aspects of outdoor lights. Thank you
I buy all of my lighting for my larger projects in custom lengths direct from Ali Baba...
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. This video helped me tremendously. Your hard work and head ache of work is greatly appreciated. 👏👏
(Currently on sale < $200 for 100ft!)
This increases the peak brightness and color range significantly.
Nice upgrade... only I'm hoping somebody figures out if it can work with WLED before I buy it!!
Oh, I see that Govee also now has "Govee Permanent Outdoor Lights 2" which sit somewhere between the last gen non-pro and the pro.
Was very helpful think imngoing with the govee lights after your video. Thanks for taking the time to do the video
Thank you! The detail of this review, as always, is amazing.
Amazing review! Thanks for doing all that installing so we don't have to!
I want to use the Govee but have stucco soffits. The 3D printed mounts are a great idea. Now I think I can go ahead with my lights.
Damn nice testing. Answered all of my questions.
You're an animal! Thank you so much for taking the time to do the video. Informative and very helpful. Appreciate all your hard work
As an electrician we install raintight equipment all the time. There is a difference between waterproof and rainproof. I'm sure most people won't submerge the power supply just a small gripe
Wow! Thank you so much for doing this video! Happy new year!!! Will save this for the upcoming holidays.
Absolutely incredible information, can’t thank you enough.
Very nice Job Sr.!
Congrats and thank you so much for your hard work!!!
Somehow you are always reviewing interesting things that I want!
All part of my master plan.
The Pro works with 200ft. I've got it installed
Thanks for the video. Any chance you have a dedicated Holiday Lights update video in the works? I'm curious to see how your Holiday setup has evolved since your last video. :)
Yep, November.
I prefer the scalloped designs for festive lights, but prefer the YPS for a more year round usable light.
I agree, it's hard to choose, that's why I went with both... lol.
@@TheHookUp Haha, I was thinking about doing the scalloped lights and doing a neon style LED strip similar to what you had in an old video
What about some wiremold plastic channels between each pucks to have nice straight hidden cables?
This is an insane review 🎄 great job!
Amazingly timely. I really want to buy a set, but I also really want to do WLED in the future. And after seeing the pictures I realize I need that separate warm white LED too. Sounds like Eufy is the way to go for me. This is amazingly helpful, thanks so much.
Yep, seems like Eufy is your best bet.
@@TheHookUp- for 100% WLED DIY with pucks, do you think there's a cheaper route vs. buying the Eufy and throwing away the controller? I'd love it if I could just buy the strips/pucks themselves with no power supply/connectors/controller/etc.
The pucks don't have the same "scalloped" look as the lensed nodes from Eufy/Appeck/Govee.
@@TheHookUp Are the white LEDs on the Eufy individually addressable?
Using the Uefy controller I can’t seem to set just one led on warm white while all others are off. Can it be done with WLED?
@@FreQi Yes, it can easily be done in WLED. According to Eufy that functionality will also be added to their app after the next update.
Love the project farm vibe
Awesome review! Just ordered my govee pro 150ft.
Which ones would be better for weather with lots of snow? I would be concern with snow hanging from the soffit and getting into the lights.
Great video I was lost on which to get till I saw it. I'm gonna go with Govee
Great review, as always! You have a great engineering mind and never leave a stone unturned, GOLD STAR 😀
Thank you so much for putting this together!
Great timing!
Great review. Thanks for all the great info. On the Eufy lights, if I wanted to cut and extend them the 10' you said worked, what kind of wire do I need. 3 wire or 4 wire? Thanks!
So much works for that video maannnnn😂🎉nice work
Hi I’m looking into adding permanent lights on my house this year.
The aluminum tracks come in a bunch of different colors, you could probably color match your soffit.
I was going to avoid buying a style I like that only comes in black, for that reason, but then I saw online that cords can be spray painted with Rustoleum. I just wonder how long it will last in the weather.
@@natashafarrell4526I've had my 🟣 cat6 cables for my cameras painted white for 3+ years now. In the shade, but Vegas heat
Very well put together video Rob. Thanks
Nice video breaking it down. I do think you didn't cover the advantage of dedicated white led enough. If I am going to trouble of permanent mount most of year I want a warm white ambience lighting. Pure RGB white never looks right IMO
As always .. very informative video.. great effort … hats off to you…
I’m planning to use yps.. can you pls advise which controller and power supply to use which is great and reliable
What would be the better choice as far as non holiday season security lighting and farthest distance output for when set you white lighting?
Govee sells single extension strands, so 12 LEDs on Amazon. You can also buy single strands on eBay.
Could buy some aluminium trunking, drills some holes in it to give for the lights and be able to hide the horrible cables.
Impressive detail and video editing.
which additional clips do i need to buy for permanent install with the Govee?
Great video. I live in Ottawa Canada where usual winters include several feet of snow with temperatures ranging from -10 to -30 degrees Celsius. Cold, cold and more cold. How do these products react to these types of temperatures?
They are IP67 so they are technically only rated to -4 F which is -20 C, but they should be fine at -30 also. You should mount the power supply and controller somewhere inside though.
You're right, Colin Furz is awesome lol
I would be interested to see how these hold up to your DIY version from some years back
The DIY option is still going strong (you can see it in the flames in this video). The plastic diffusers have yellowed significantly due to UV, but colors and brightness are still good. I'm honestly amazed every time I fire them up and there are no issues after 5+ years.
@@TheHookUp thanks! do you think these options outperform your DIY option tho?
@@tonverra Just a totally different look. My LED strips are pointed at the street, so you see the LEDs directly. The scalloped/lensed options are more of a wall wash, while the YPS track is a combo of wall wash and direct view.
@@TheHookUp thank you! Appreciate the info!
