As someone who worked on his. it is NOT a warhammer animation at all. It's an original IP we've been cooking in the background for a long time.
“For our purposes” “falls in line with” “should I do halo and Titanfall and fall out AS IF they were 40K,” I am aware. This is my head canon.
I keep seeing people comment that this is 40k when its obviously NOT 40k...people gotta clean their fuckin eyes out apparently.
Don't worry, we all know it's "not" Warhammer *winkwink*. Great job. Great job and screw GW. Make their lawyers scream. The age of stryfe is ripe for content
great work on this man really feels lived in
A lot of sweaty neck beards out today in the comments….
Some former GW employees have come out about the conditions behind Warhammer+ and it’s rough: a lot of passionate people being driven into the ground by corporate mandates and deadlines .
That was foreseeable. Doing something insanely time-consuming "for fun" and doing it as a real job where you have deadlines and have to make other people happy are not really the same thing.
Omg! Oh the humanity of a company expecting things on time! Say it ain’t so! Corporate mandates that an employee create stories that follow a company storyline, that’s just evil! Joking aside GW really needs to have a consistent release schedule and advertising strategy. New shows might begin but episodes are sporadic at best with no cohesion, hell I never even knew about some of these shows that came out on the app and they don’t tell you if it’s an ongoing story, a one off, when a new episode drops, how many episodes there are, what timeframe are we in, and a host of other things.
I can't help but notice that the artwork in GW publications lacks any kind of character and individual style, that seems to have gone away. Warhammer and 40k used to have some great art but Blanche, Bonner, Ian Smith, Godwin, Gibbons do not have modern day equivalents. I guess that is something the corporate higher ups don't like, don't understand and see as an unnecessary expenditure; very sad.
@@tarn1135 Who defines "on-time"? Maybe the person deciding that does a poor job and negatively affects the work of the employees? I totally agree with you that GW is bad about communicating long-term plans for WH+, I think its downstream of larger issues within the company, however.
WAIT,merc space marines high on combat stims? That's based!
They're not really space marines just normal people in power armor and high on combat stims.
i think in this case "space marine" is more like a job description rather than a description of being@@nox22119
@@nox22119From what was written of their official Reddit. Apparently they are gene modded, the captains baldness being a side effect of it.
@@ignatius929 I have not read that but if thats true then they're proto space marines since they don't have geneseeds that came from the Emperor/primarchs
Their power armour is basically how it should be in Starship Troopers. The sound at the beginning is computer punch cards, 1970s technology. It's the sound at the beginning of Alien.
Alien Isolation got me immersed in it's world environment, and it made me truly appreciate the concept of retro-futuristic tech.
Been in love with it ever since.
all that is missing is jumppacks and Y shaped cannons in the back. Maybe a more ape like physique (longer arms), but other than that, this is honestly freaking amazing and i agree, it would be a good ST like design.
No, the power amor here is basically just a suit of armor with the weapon held conventionally. Starship troopers power armor is in concept more like a hopping gunship(for 40k people, more like tau crisis battlesuits).
@aliceboweie You should clarify that you were talking about the movie Starship Troopers(1997) Because in the book the mobile infantry (APE suits) power armor divisions are really more advanced with the ability to leapfrog jump with jets for miles at a time and the capability to fire tactical nukes from their power armor.
It's also and more exactly the sound, and image from Fallout 3 and 4 from Bethesda...
This is Project Morningstar, an original IP. Glad you covered it.
Space battle of Exodite was AMAZING. Titans too.
Sound design in this one is stellar. I particularly loved the artillery sound, how it's instantaneously transmitted through ground. There's MIGHT in that discharge SFX. It's weighty.
Yes! I replayed that part like 4 times because of that fantastic audio effect. It sounded even better with headphones in
i really like how the mercs are the opposite of space marines, no holy warriors here, these are just PMCs making bank by commit war crimes which gives me huge black water vibes and i love how we are the bad guy, in 40k we are just a lesser evil , not here, i also had your reaction at 7:13, really sells the point how we are goated in the sauce of the villains
The Space Marines are corporate vectors aimed to to produce revenue for the corporate shareholders of Games Workshop. Or making bank as you call it. By selling figurines and video games. I'd guess you consider that holy?
Fr fr, no cap.
Being the lesser evil dosnt mean you are the bad guy.
These guys here are also most likley the lesser evil, since a leader of country coud b a greater evil than them.
Also space marines are not holy worriors, most of them dont belive in religion even. They are mutants.
Love that you brought up the fact the emperor didnt create power armor, he aped an already existing (and created an inferior version, possibly to this day) technology from the dark age. Thats been one of my favorite parts of reading the horus heresy - prior to the fall, there was more science fiction, full of interesting and varied compliance actions.
Did you notice them riding a predecessor of the land raider too 😂
@penileymajorey7174 My first thought was it looked like a Rhino specifically, that's the HH astartes troop carrier if memory serves (so yes) :D
Time for Games Workshop to do Warhammer 15k
It's NOT Warhammer 40k universe, it's a separate IP entirely. Check up the description of original video.
@Taron_Haidy I know. I'm commenting on a point of reference he made. I'm glad that the short film is set in a different universe, but given that this channel is primarily warhammer content I'm confused why people wouldn't discuss warhammer related things, especially when counterpoints himself did so. I doubt anyone here got the impression that this is a warhammer IP. I didnt
I absolutely love your breakdowns, as someone that loves warhammer but isnt too familiar with the backstories this is great.
This isn't warhammer. It's a new IP.
I was hoping you would make a break down of this.
Thanks you very much
the 80's like logo just completes it for me. this is amazing work. This lore, while 40k unrelated, is very intriguing. I wonder if the enemy they are fighting are aliens themselves or humans running away from extraterrestrials.
Ikr, that's what got me tickled.
I love that mid 80's to late 90's aesthetic with analogies future. I showed my mother who, ya know _grew up in the 80's and 90's_ this and she thought the same thing.
Enjoyed the breakdown as always. Totally agree with your comments on GW needing to get their heads out of their arses with regards to letting animators do their thing. They're sitting on an absolute goldmine of stories that could be told so beautifully and yet refuse to open the purse strings to allow it to happen, at least the way these stories deserve to be told. I feel they're massively shooting themselves in the foot by doing so. It's almost as if they don't realise they have such a passionate audience ready and waiting who wouldn't be nearly so afraid to open their wallets.
I also think your idea about breaking down other stuff as if it's the same timeline is interesting and would definitely give it a watch. Thanks for the time you take to make these videos.
I wouldn't mind seeing other sci-fi franchises on this channel.
Aliens & Terminator
Morningstar is an original IP though. It's made by the people who used to be Lost Legion Studios so its got 40k blood running through its veins for sure, but its its own thing.
Love your breakdowns as usual. I for one, would be happy to hear you speak on other universes whether they fit into the 40k realm or not. One of my favorite things you've done so far out of that realm has been the Aliens movie breakdown! Keep up the great work!
Something about warfare in the "Aliens" universe, with the USMC vs whatever other faction's military would be nice to see, but I think there's nothing like that out there
the retro computer clicks and whirring is taking me to a wonderful place. To think a simple sound can bring a warm feeling inside is just crazy.
It would be hilarious to see the fallout guy be on a krieg like planet with his power armor just kicking ass and taking names
Krieg isn't a normal looking moon. Imagine WW1 Verdun as an entire planet w/nuclear storms being the normal everyday weather
Ok, it might sound like heresy but I kind of prefer that proto-stormbolter to the current stormbolter mostly cause its design reminds me of a M249 SAW LMG.
YES.
Definitely breakdown more videos by these guys.
This is fantastic.
That’s a big Affirm to more sodaz content, and Keep up the good work.
one note, the soldier doesn't float up they're sitting on platforms and he gets up on the platform and it rises him up.
I would love seeing you spotlight other animations outside the Warhammer canon, whether or not you imagine them into the 40k timeline. It's nice to get a look at other beautiful animations I may have never seen or known about.
that astartes mini clip at the beginning always get my blood pumping...the clank of the power armor, the shoulder paldron block, the slick movements of the marine...is it possible to marry a work of art? cause i will if it is!
I can't believe I didn't see this. I really want to see some more media set in the 40k universe my dream is to see a series do the unification wars and great crusade maybe from a space marines view point starting off with there earliest campaigns and how the legions gained their identities and culture. Dan of the channel you do great commentary and presentation, keep up the goodwork 💪🇮🇪
This is cool I recently watched this show a day or two ago, hope they want another one in the books.
That was cool when the soldier there on turret was able to shoot down both of the enemies.
Just gotta get this out there, The Morningstar Series is not attatched to the Warhammer IP. It is, for all intents and purposes, its own universe with its own rules and tech Completely outside and seperate from GW.
Edit: I dont mean to come off harshly, I just know a lot of confusion around this new IP and want to set things straight where I can. I do hope to see Counterpoints Explore this series, even if it isnt a Warhammer IP.
I'd like to imagine that this is before humanity's golden age
The heat building up on the barrel is really cool. Less atmosphere, slower cooling.
either as 40k lore or on their own, whichever works for you
I weep everytime sodaz uploads another fantastic halo video because it could of been another 40k masterpiece
In the grim dark future of Morningstar, there is only corporate profit, and laughter of hungry lawyers.
Very cool. I love the 40k inspired marines looking marines.
I didn't even know they were dark age Astarte's until watching your vid, you explained it very well.
Technically they’re not Astartes because they’re not gene crafted but I appreciate the appreciation
@@Counterpoints true my bad, lova ya vids
they're not even warhammer
@@NevolmonGaming The dark age of technology is Warhammer tho
@@BigguzCaptainBogz this isn't dark age of technology it's an original IP
So far it’s got my interest
Glad Sodaz is getting recognition
Coolest armor designs I've seen outside of deathwatch and grey nights
Thank you counter point!
grats on getting a sponsor!
This is very in line with the book Starship Troopers. That's how the Mobile Infantry should've looked in the movie.
Legally distict
It had an early 80’s local tv station feed to it. 👍
Those helmets.... are a piece of art.
I just want a full length movie like this 😭
Hey pretty good video as always my guy keep it up and also honestly yeah go for it the halo fallout and titanfall sodaz are s tier badass
This type of style of animation is just better
Absolutley watch, explain and breakdown it all.
Great idea
Love the idea of looking at other media and assimilating it into 40K 👍
Would love to see you review Soddaz's stuff and the fallout one he's currently working on!
Can't wait till the next One. This was Great no doubt and definitely has me itching for the next episode
6:37 I am pretty sure that this guy is standing on a raised platform and not floating because of low gravity. If the gravity was that low, the vehicles would take off when hitting any kind of unevenness on the ground. The recoil of his projectile weapon would throw him back and you can see the platform when pausing the video at the right moment.
Really pushing Blade Runner vibes in that opening. Loving it
On the topic of Sodaz's work, why not break them down in the contexts of their own lore? Warhammer 40k is so broad that you could shoehorn anything into the setting.
Literally every talented creator/animator creating 40k content create a masterpiece then get shut down into obscurity.
What was the intro footage from like the orange space marine fighting???
love it, a good theory
Oh, this has great potential
Where did you take from the short movie at the beginning of your video??? I can't find it at all, but I really want to see it full.
Astartes 2 trailer
@@Counterpoints for the Emperor)
Keep em coming man 💯😬 for the great waaaaaaaghhh
this is good stuff. gritty
All you brother content break it down. We're here the nerd out
I'm a bit critical. Awesome animation no doubt, but couldn't you say this is too related to 40k in concept design? ex. Explosive rounds are already a thing in several genres. Why not explore futuristic space SABOT rounds? You could argue that munition is just as, if not more powerful. Definity competitive with room to create a diverse sci-if arsenal.
I honestly think explosive rounds are the only way to go, good against flesh but more importantly it can harm anyone even close to the round. Sabot on the other hand are like shooting needles while also cutting through everything, which is not needed unless you're fighting heavy armour, even then explosives hurt internals even without penetration.
@@tarektechmarine8209 You under play the violent nature of even the modern depleted uranium needle. Imagine an armored vehicle being hit behind cover. A hill. A SABOT can pierce through an amount of terrain, puncture the heaviest armor still, AND (and here is the horrific part) the exit of the dense heavy metal needle is so powerful that the negative pressure created from the small hole sucks anything out of that hole like a vacuum in space. Any flesh wrapped in body armor is sucked out or vaporized by the physics alone. The Gulf war was essentially a testing ground of that type munition. Slap some space fantasy physics on it, and you got a real good competitor to overplayed high explosives. They could at least elevated the specifics to mirror a 'shaped charge'. Those explosive mechanics are horrific too.
episode 2 please it is very entertaining 😎😎😎
proto space marines look so cool
Yes on the Sodaz, his STALKER videos are kick ass !
I can't waaait for episode 2
Intro looks very Quake 2 inspired!
I'm here for any and all breakdown content .. o7
I'm sorry but Astartes does not mean star, it is a reference to the Mesopotamian godess of war "Astarte".
Yes. The Holders of the Mesopotamian God of War.
Great video! How does Fallout fits into the 40K timeline?
Wars of the techno barbarians during the unification wars
@@Counterpoints sure, I'd love to watch it, could be also some less advanced planet in the current time line
So this is kinda like... Warhammer 20K?
Now this is astartes 2.0, it maybe not be the same quality as the original but its sure as shit aint under GW strict deadlines
That would be a very good idea adding fallout Titan, fall and halo 😮❤
Oh yes please Connor.
Make those Sodaz bits into 40k.
Comments for the Commentgods!
Where can I see the whole video? I have to warhammer tv but I can’t find it on there.
It’s on UA-cam
Please review more from this studio
Give me ability to give you money GW! This is cool stuff.
nice! can we have a reaction to the Warhammer Darktide classes trailer ? i see so few of that!
Always wanted to know, where your intro video from?
Astartes 2 trailer
@@Counterpoints 👍
Yes, yes, and yes.
Technology wise it reminds me of the starcraft universe.
Bring us the additional content lexicons. For the Emperor.
THIS IS NOT 40K OR ANY OTHER K! IT IS A NEW PROJECT CALLED MORNINGSTAR!
“For our purposes” “falls in line with” “should I do halo and Titanfall and fall out AS IF they were 40K,” yes I know.
Is there some footage of Serenity?
Yes. One of my favorites
Its an awesome piece of original IP. can't it also be used as a visual piece of art to trying to capture the spirit of the dark age or whatever else you know Syfy media you want to try
One thing counterpoints is getting wrong is that this is not set in the dark age of tecgnology or the 40K universe. Firstly because the aesthetic is a mix of 80s, 90s futurism and a splash of grimdark.
secondly, due to GW slamming it's "Ban-hammer" on anu original 40k content, this is an original setting. to put in the official description.
The Morningstar project tells stories from a distant, bleak future where the known universe is gripped by the greed of interstellar corporate empires.
Sounds more like Mutant chronicles.
The point he makes is that it could well be in 40k's past.
It doesn't matter what the official description states.
Also aesthetically 80's 90's futurism fits perfectly with dark age style of Warhammer.
Works well.@@murlocksftw
If you look at the description of the original video, Project Morningstar isn't at all set in Warhammer 40K. It's its own original universe.@@murlocksftw
@@aaronyt8580 Dude! We all know it's not officially set in 40k!
That's the point I made previously.
But according to what we know about the dark age of technology and how the video looks it could well be.
This guys got a great voice ..!
I like the Movie effects ....🎉 . awesome 😎 ... Warhammer 40k ..🎉 I Hope so They'll Make A Movie of 40K Warhammer it's so awesome 😎
Remember SODAZ they banned his 40K works, that guy had great stuff! :D
hell yes do some sodaz. his halo reach is perfect and the fallout one is being nothing but great.
Are we really sure it based on the dark age of Technology of Warhammer ? I mean we are not sure if the creator unless i didn't see the memo.
Warhammer has the best lore by far
So.. He just destroyed the air lock door and vented the entire APC... Well made but not a lot of thoughts involving real tactics put into it.
Whenever Fallout is mentioned.. I think Fallout 1 and start to cry..
Do an episode of Thundarr the Barbarian..... Set in pre-unification Terra!
Aaaaaawwwwwweeeeee this is soooo cooool
Nice
Comment for the comment gods, also yes to the sodaz idea
