In the annals of human history, The Dark Age of Technology stood as a zenith of scientific achievement and expansion across the galaxy. It was an era marked by the rise of artificial intelligences, the emergence of psychic powers, and the Men of Iron and Men of Stone. However, this golden age was not destined to last, as the cybernetic revolt along with the Immaterium convulsing with Warp Storms, heralding the birth of the Chaos God Slaanesh led to the fall of humanity along with that of the Aeldari. Isolation and strife followed, leading to the regression of once-thriving civilizations into barbarism, an era fittingly named the Age of Strife.

Fun fact: in the short story "Perpetual", where the Mechanivores, Sun Snuffers and Omniphages were first mentioned, it's revealed that not all of the Men of Iron rebelled, abd not for all the same reasons. Some MOI stayed loyal to Humanity, others were driven mad abd attacked anything from any side. Other lore sources such as Gaunt's Ghosts and the Castigator Grey Knight book showed that some of the MOI were corrupted by Chaos.

Sorry I’m a newcomer relatively. So you had the men of iron and the men of Stone? What was the difference? Thanks.

men of gold(perpetually perhaps) made men of stone(they were perhaps cyborgs or genetically altered, immune to chaos and dangers of space travel) and they made men of iron(pure mechanical AI)

@@jiggitydazzle84 Actually with the relatively recent reveal of the the Leagues of Votann, we now know that 'The Men of Stone' were those Space-Dwarves. They were genetically altered for High-Gravity, Mining Work & it was they who would create the 'Men of Iron'. Because they don't stand out in the Warp like regular people, they endured the Age of Strife much better than the rest of Humanity, but if I've read the hints given in the new lore correctly, the massive A.I. repositories that have run their civilization for perhaps 20,000 years, either have seriously begun to degrade, OR has completely taken over their society. Or Both. ^_^
Games Workshop still hasn't clarified who the 'Men of Gold' were, but it IS entirely possible that they were just the ordinary people of the Golden Age of Tech.

@@torikazuki8701from what I’ve read, the Men of Gold were part of the AI community, a next Gen version of the MoI. The Votann MoI are similar, but a different more stable OS, which is backed up by their AI Cores. Just my interpretation.

@@itseyona You might be right, Sir!
Though I have known about W40k since the late 1980's, as a Teenager & despite being a Nerd-Master, I didn't get into this wonderful creation until 2020.
I've done my normal pouring over a new 'verses lore, but my knowledge is far from comprehensive.
The only thing I think that might put a little water on that flame, is, aren't we told that the Men of Gold went out WITH Man into space? So if I haven't flubbed it, that would be strong evidence that they existed before the Men of Iron did.

To put it into perspective the high tier weapons of the imperium volkite weapons , plasma guns , gravity guns, imperial knights and terminator armour would be rudimentary mining tools , agri mechs or hazmat suits to the humans of the age of technology if the imperium were to regain its age of technology knowledge or status with the emperor it would be one of the most busted factions in sci fi also i really like your content keep it up man

Well. Not all imperial knight were wood chopper. Some were built for combat from the start. Even the wood chopper one were designed to combat local aggressive species. So they are kinda still a weapon from the start. Astartes armor have different variants. The current one are far from the mining armor of the dark age. They were improved for combat in every way by the emperor.

actually if you see the ninth edition's description about this era,you would know that the collapse was just a matter of time.
The human at this age did achieve greatness in tech, but also regression in morality, when scientist became kings, madmen unleash tech horror upon xenos and its people if they are not subservient, men of iron and genetic mutants were used as riot troopers in this era, these horror occured in daot, not in age of strife, yet they certainly already developed the cruelty of upcoming ages, therefore the collapse of the age of technology was already heralded by the corruption of mankind themselves and even if men of iron never rebel or warp storm never happened, something else would eventually give this age a violent end it deserved.
also, the men of iron's rebellion was speculated to be the handwork of the minor chaos god vashtorr, the chaos god of innovation and machinery as it was mentioned in arks of omen background story.

So the people in the future where technology and since is treated as backwards named a more technologically advanced time as a dark age . Also this time period fits the “little dark” age song.

It depends on which factions of Imperium u belong to.
For Mechanicus, it is Golden Age.
For the Church, it is Dark Age.
It should be noted that Dark Age term only came about after the Church rose to Power, from The Beginning during the Unification war through the Horus Heresy, it was always the Golden age then things changed...a lot...
The same as "Imperial Truth" nowadays....😢

It’s just really hard to believe that science, ambition, the desire to learn, and the ability to simply write things down have been lost. But, there’s people out there that know a lot more than me. I’ll leave it to them to explain. I don’t understand why the bolter is still the main battlefield rifle 10,000 years later. That would be the equivalent of the US Army still using spears and swords. Strange but again, there’s far smarter people in terms of lore than me.

Thats for a few different valid and non valid reasons.
First: Learning requires experimentation and resources to use purely for advancement. And I mean true instutional learning across a group not just going to school as an Individual.
Two: Learning or trying to find anything new in a Universe where Gods are not only real, but activr malicious, and have already shown to be more than capable of corrupting even the best Tech. So youre gonna go with what you know that you know the purification rituals on.
Three: Why waste so many resources relearning this (which is impossible for reasons 4 and 5) when we Know STCs exist and are out there. (The High Irony being that the Imperium has at least several fully funtioning STCs, but they simply dont know theyre there or how to access them since) Better to use resources to explore old planets, try and find new tech, and while youre out there maybe you can find even more resources to be drawn into the Imperiums War Machine. Which are you gonna select in an active Eternal War, some fee dudes in a lab researching very slowly and purposfully, or those same nerds with massive amounts of military Hardware going out and trying to find the STC, which can just instantly make centures of Research useless in an instant. Oh and also they can help fight enemies and find other resources. Which is the actual better choice there keeping in mid the Chaos Gods being able to give people "inspiration" so even if the Imperium did get an advancement, it could be completely wiped out wirh just a bit of Chaos Fuckery.
Four: the single most Important reason in the lore: The Men of Stone arent around anymore and they cant access STCs. Now this may not sound Important but it is deadly so. During the time of the Federation of Man, Humanities Elite lived like the Eldar. They didnt do research. Any advancement research or actual engineering was done by the Men of Stone and the Men of Iron, or was actually a creaton of an STC AI.
All of whom can process information far faster than any Human. And they had 10 Millenia of advancement and research of that type before Humanity lost them. The tech gap is closes explained like this: The Romans were amazing Engineers and highly advanced for their age. If you went back in time and gave them a Nuclear reactor, F15Es, and even thr Battleship Iowa, then just told them good luck. Not explanations, no basic math, and the few people you leave behind are Low rung workers who at best know how to maintain parts of the reactor.
Thats what the Imperium is under. The AdMech understands modern Science perfectly, and even better than IRL science in universe. The problem is 10k years of Researching AI
Five: related to the Chaos God part, but an even bigger threat is simple: Sabatoge. Wether it be an Eldar sent in to killl someone to stop advancement, the Orks hearing of some nice loot, Chaos wanting to make the Imperiums day worse, or most likely, self Sabotage for a variety of reasons.
Now as for the reason Bolters are used In Universe: They were cheaper to mass produce tha Volkite weapons, even with Ammunition. Also a single Man Portable Mk19 Grenade Launcher is gonna take care of just about most problems you run into. Just about every Major Weapons advancement in history has been "We have found a way to throw a Rock even further, more accurately and Harder" or "We found a Way to set someone/thing on Fire in a new way".

In 1700 BC the Mycenaean Greek Civilization fell. The Mycenaean were the primitive ancestors of Ancient Hellenistic Greece that started Western Civilization. The Mycenaeans were a powerful sea traders known for wine making but it like several other Mediterranean Civilizations fell with Egypt being the last Civilization standing. When the 1700 s BC collapse ended we had phonetician, Assyrians, etc.

Love when they say zenith and peak of what we could achive when it got to a point humanity was beyond conquering and enlightened. Technology doesnt have a cap. There is no roof thay keeps technology from progressing. Their will always be another step. When humanity traded with orks because the orks couldnt hope to stand against them and the eldar stayed a safe distance away. Pretty sad when these factions run from someone but fought the star gods. Read somewhere that a single ship approached an ork world and they fired micro missile darts to kill all the orks on the planet without fighting and then sent nano bots down to devour the ork spore, ridding the planet of an ork infestation in a few days. Another story of how a ship from the dark age appeared in 40k. The captain was friends with the AI and when he contacted a planet the mechanicus killed him. The AI got pissed hacked the mechanicus tech and killed everyone including the planet of people that the ship landed on. Only taken down when the deathwatch got involved
