PSA for anyone else following this when fighting Asterius you can hold your attack button and face him to block just about all of his attacks. It’s especially useful when he’s charging you since he will rebound off your shield like he was hitting a wall. Just stand in front of his swipes, then as soon as he jumped in the air let it go and dash across the arena and resume special spamming.
All that aside thanks so much for the vid I’ve been marathoning the game for the last few days getting to grips with it and this build is a damn good foundation to start with.

Same with me, and this apparently still works 2 years later. 31st attempt was the first time I ever fought Hades, and died just before the 2nd phase. But tried this out on the 32nd attempt making it all the way to Hades and beating both phases. A few tutorials on what to look out for with the boss definitely helped, but the build in this video undoubtedly helped the most.

I'd only killed Meg once before, but this doom special on the shield just took me past the minotaur, the deflect dash and a few more poms were very welcome.

I started playing when it came to xbox game pass and have been loving the game but could never manage to beat Hades although I had got to him a few times. Today (on my 42 attempt) I manager to finally do it using this strat. Then the following run I beat him again using a different build.
This helped getting over that tough hump.

Another good build for an early game victory is Zag sword with Tidal dash. You mainly want to focus on upgrading the dash and you want to be dash striking 24/7. The build is easy to get working considering you don’t really need a weapon aspect in particular and it shouldn’t be too hard to get Poseidon’s keepsake.
I tried something like that but when I got the dash it was kind of getting in my way cuz it would always push the enemies away from me. I was trying to do this special into dash strike combo, but oftentimes enemies are flying away so I couldn't really kill them
Tidal dash is GREAT if you're having trouble with Styx in particular. It was kind of my mental breakthrough on that zone and it's still by far the easiest way to do it.
@@guybrushthreepwood8174 Keep in mind when using attack boons from Poseidon that you will knock non boss enemies away, so when you are focusing one enemy in particular just push them into a wall to score some extra wall splat damage and it keeps em from getting away.
Dash strike is the best way to play the sword! Sword is hard though. It is very difficult to avoid damage!
tidal dash demolishes everything, and then you get rupture damage and it just isn't fair. The enemies evaporate.

Hey just wanted to pop in to say this helped me get my first win, attempt #30. All my other runs I'd just lose chunks of life/death defiance in most encounters or bosses and have only 1 life by the time I got to hades. This build really got me through most trash encounters taking zero or minimal damage. Still dropped one death defiance on Theseus/Bull fight, and two to hades, but nothing else gave me trouble. Bought one death defiance along the way, so I even had one life to spare. Thanks for the hand holding full build and video, now I'm excited and more prepared to escape with other weapons and builds. GG!

After 16 hours, and like 30ish attempts over the last year+, I attempted this run twice with your build and I FINALLY beat the game. Even though I beat it now I need to decide whether to keep grinding this game out , or if I should move on to hades 2. I’m so conflicted.
I also truly don’t think I could beat this game with any other build, especially adding heat in to the mix 💔.
As I’m not sure what to do going forward, I’m going to have to think long and hard.

Mate you’re a fucking legend. 27 runs in and STRUGGLING. Literally escaped for first time after following this. It gave me the same thrill fromsoft are so good at creating. Pure addicted to Hades now. Need to at least complete the game
I got Zeus's special on the blitz shield and just dashed around as it kept trying to recall to me. That was the easiest run I have ever done
i was on run 50 and hit a brick wall. i could make it to hades with each weapon but couldn’t clear. I tried this method twice (first run NO luck getting Aries special). 2nd attempt I got the Aries special up to level 22!!! That worked! absolutely crushed that run. thanks for the tips! now i can move forward with rewards!!!
I reached Hades on my 5th attempt through sheer fluke and I haven't been able to reach him since. I had a curse build that run with the bow, gosh I love the bow. This game is so fun and it didn't realize to me how insane reaching him on the 5th attempt was until I asked my friends and most of them haven't even reached him yet lol.

I love Leading Alecto into the spike traps, especially if I found a temporary boon that causes enemies to take more damage from traps
That is fun I agree! There used to be a keepsake that increased trap damage too!
My favorite low effort build is either caster bow with fully duo'd up trippy shot or an all out artemis caster build with the Hermes legendary, all the better with Poseidon sword. Stand back and mash circle, do like 1/4-1/3 of Hade's health with every set of stones, more if you got the extra cast off chaos.

Thanks for this video! Watching you play and how to manage the build, I managed a first win after 11 attempts. I maxed out Ares special with the Shield combined with Divine Reflect. Not gonna lie, Hades was actually quite manageable, as I got through Styx with minimal damage. The most frustrating boss was Theseus and Minotaur, no doubt.

Dude thx. Watched the vid 4th attempt beat him with your simple build. That was my 69th overall attempt. Now I've beat him 3 times. Once more with shield the last was with the fist using ice attack doom special drunk dash Athena call.

I ended up reaching Hades for the first time using the sword and a build based around healing off my basic attacks and damage mitigation. Didn’t beat him but the very next run I used this shield build and reached him again even if I haven’t beaten him yet this definitely helped me jump that gap
Ooh! Were you using Cursed Slash? If so, that usually works best with Flurry Slash. But yeah, doom is a pretty good curse to start off trying to win, good luck beating Hades!

I recently got my first clear with this strategy (run #40) . Athena's dash was a must and the Zeus cast that strikes enemies when your cast tokens (whatever you call them) are sitting out helped me a lot too
Somehow I beat Hades on my first time seeing him without knowing anything about the fight. This build was just too OP

I just started playing about a day ago and couldn't beat the hydra. Finally I was on a run with the spear with the hammer upgrade that turns it into an explosive shot, then got the Zeus boon that gives a lightning strike on special and then chance to double lightning and enemies shock themselves when they attack. I killed the hydra and made it all the way to the minotaur double fight. They destroyed me lol. But it was fun. I still don't understand the boon system very well but the game is very fun.
Started the day it came out on Games Pass. Boon system gets easier to understand once you learn the symbols on the doors. Playing on two saves and enjoying every death.
I feel ya! Yeah, the boons system can be hard to understand. Eventually you can look at all the boons in the codex. It will show you prerequisites for certain boons. Very helpful! :)
I got my first win on my 30th run with this exact setup
One of my favorite builds to run is the Ares Uppercut. Just get the Hermes boon that makes the uppercut faster.
Dash uppercut on repeat to victory.
Ares on Gilgamesh is so strong. 💯
Dash upper is pretty amazing! I always take damage with it though, the timing is tough to get down.
I happened upon Curse of Pain + shield purely by accident. But then the other day I still needed Stubborn Defiance to get the reward for clearing an attempt with every mirror talent and I wondered how I was gonna pull it off. I equipped the Aspect of Chiron for the bow and went to bed planning to grind that until I got a clear. But then I woke up in the morning and it occurred to me I could use Ares' keepsake to force Curse of Pain on my shield, and I did that and easily beat Hades without even using my one revive; it was my first completely deathless run.
Then for the past couple days I continued using this build to work on affinity for the Olympians, and that's also worked very well. Incidentally, the Bow of Chiron also works amazingly with Curse of Pain. Spam the special to take out mobs, use attack to target bosses and larger enemies with the special.
It's pretty effective! The bow special is also great, but the animation is a bit more slow so I feel like it's a bit more dangerous. Very similar idea though! Cheers!

I thought I might be the only person who couldn't execute on this plan, doing b slightly worse the first time I tried than my previous best, where lightning rod and other passives were able to get me through thesus and the first stage of (redacted), but on the second attempt (88th or 89th overall), I wax able to combine the builds and win on a sliver of health.

Cheese builds are fun. My only problem with Doom is that you have to get impending doom (and level it up) for it to be highly effective. Zeus and Dionysus are also fun with this weapon's special. 🧀🧀🧀🧀🧀 💯💯💯
Yeah, the great thing about it though is even without impending doom, the playstyle allows you to be pretty safe in most rooms. It sure is slow though 😂
I cleared Hades with the Chiron Bow-Dionysus-Aphrodite build twice already, but this looks pretty great for clearing with the shield. Is this build better or worse with the Aspect Of Chaos?
It depends how high you leveled it up. Chaos shield needs to be leveled 3+ before it starts to feel really good.
After reaching Hades 4 times and losing all of them, finally I beated him with that strategy in my 30th run lol And it was on my first try. Really strong.
Hot damn, I tried so hard to get to Hades with my rank 4 Chiron bow and couldn’t do it, second time I try this and actually get good boons I wailed him and didn’t even use a death defiance. Thanks man!

@@Gbomb82 I'd recommend you gift the gods and get their keepsakes, probably Dionysus for Tartarus, if you get lucky you can also get the boon which allows fountains to heal you to full - Might want to use Ares keepsake for Asphodel, since his blade rift dash/call tears

The acorn thing that blocks boss damage the first few hits is good for the next phases
Yes! If you have that keepsake it is very nice for the bosses.
First run was done with fists, but that last run I did with this build was hilarious, picked up thr deadelus hammer and got the +4 special hits and got the doom special to level 8 just tore rooms apart....

Got my first win with the ricochet boon and a heavily pumped up zeus boon + jolted, double strike and the artemis boom that makes small arrows spawn with every hit. Just cleared rooms with a few button taps and kept getting pomps every chance I got😅

I beat Hades yesterday at 12:15pm, spear form two, I had a useful duo boon dementer and Athena, stubborn roots, I bought a anvil that swapped 1 weapon upgrade for two random ones, I got a few centuar hearts, a a few hangover boons(I couldn't say his name properly for text to speech and couldn't spell it,so hangover boons,attack specifically ,Demeter call, got lucky special with bouldy, I don't remember the special, I took a few curse boons from chaos, possibly, I screen shot everything I used on my switch but I don't have it on me)

You can win with similar tactics to this with the spear. Prioritise Ares on your special and cast and Artemis on your call and you can get a duo on the cast with her and Ares but I can't remember what you need from her first. Then just get hammer upgrades for the special. Ignore attack. Then it's as simple as casting, special, dodge, collect cast and repeat. Spear was my go-to always but since beating the game a few times I'm trying out the other weapons. Some just click. Dionysus and the fists. Zeus and the gun and so on. I hope this helps
@@CramoJJEEDC thanks for the advice it's not my normal play style for a game like this to sit back but it got me the W and a few more since. All guns/spears blazing is way more fun but usually results in a final boss fight at half health with 1 death defiance left.

I suggest going for the shield with the Charged Shot hammer upgrade, you can defeat pretty much anything including Asterius and Theseus without losing any hp even if you are absolute noob.
You only need Aphrodite aid and Hermes Quick Favor as the only two boons. Use skelly or Eurydice keepsake for final boss.

My first win was weird, i kept getting crappy non synergystic boons, but i got a daedalus hammer upgrade for my rail gun that make my grenade do 300% damage, but did self harm.
I won all the boss fights by just shooting myself with the launcher, dodging, and just whittling enemy health down

i just beat him before watching this by using the crystal casts + freeze (4 of them) and running away like a coward with the athena's reflect dash. but now i'm going to try this.
just beat it 2 more times in a row, 3 in a row all together. first time i couldn't get the doom curse, but i got athena's special and kept upgrading that. second time i got doom and kept upgrading that. went from 0 escapes to 3 in one day.

I called this build captain america :) my 2nd run was with this strat and got all the way to hades but I got greedy and lost on the 2nd phase.
So what is this build exactly? Does it require doom?
Finally cleared and got Hades for the first time with this build; I guess the trick is always remembering that even tho the special’s hit damage, what actually does the job is the effect the special does when it hits, my mistake was trying to keep hitting with the special instead of hitting whenever it was possible and then running away. Thanks!

I keep rolling with the attack, dash, and cast boons for Aries with the keepsake. Is there any way to guarantee the special rolls?
43:10 Why Ferocious Guard over Dashing Flight? Isn't faster Special that does +200% damage better than +20% damage for 10 seconds after blocking?
Great question! Because our primary damage is the ares doom damage, the global 20% is better than the 200% on the special damage. On the other hand if we'd used a % based special boon, the dashing flight would be better! The other thing to remember is that global damage increase is always amazing, since you typically have many sources of damage and buffing them all is incredible!

I think that was in reference to the game having just come out. Going back with a new save file it was nice to hear those old lines again or maybe even for the first time.

I tried beating the game as early as I possibly could on a new save file. It took me 8 runs. I used merciful end on the Zag spear. I wanna win very first run 😂.

my first victory againts Hades was using the gun, it was like my 5th-6th run overall after i rushed the weapons unlock condition, so first run with the gun and i won, at that moment i felt like the thing was made for me

Looks awesome! Would the same logic essentially apply to the bow attack and/or the spear special?
Potentially, though the charge up of the attack and the slowness of the bow special are the weaknesses there.
Agree that those are too slow. The thing about the shield is it is so dang fast to toss it, and if you miss it tends to bounce into the enemy anyway. The bow / spear don’t do either. Athena’s reflect is good on the secondary for the bow, you can make a lot of enemies kill themselves. Lightening rod is good for a clear once you have 3 cast stones and doesn’t care which weapon you use, but that’s a Duo so it’s not easy to get like Ares doom.
I literally don't know how you did this. I had the doom up to level 10 and a boon that let my special bounce 4 times before returning and I still lost. Of course it was on the second half of his battle 😪
You can get unlucky with that fight some times. It's a good way to clear the game without losing death defiances. If you get splash dash, you should be pretty safe in Styx.

Gotta be Honest : my first win was waaaaaaay cheesier.
Step one : get the Rail of Adamantine
Step two : there's that hammer upgrade that increases the radius and damage of the special in exchange for self damage on it : take that.
Step three : any boons that upgrade your specials damage by a percentile.
Percentiles accumulate.
Last step : get outta hell playing as a dashing artillery cannon. I legit was dealing 1/5 of *SPOILER* life with each use.

GREAT question! It's because I bought the rod of fishing on that save file just before that run. Once you buy that Poseidon offers you his "Huge Catch" legendary boon. Regardless of what keepsake you are wearing.
