Couple of things left out (for those finding this vid now that Hades II has been announced): 1. Routed is one of the least popular categories. People usually start running one of the many non-routed categories. There are a ton of them. There are even official modded categories to reduce the number of resets and rng. (E.g. The number of Styx paths becomes fixed so you don't lose a good run at the very end.) 2. The key to any routed run is actually getting the right room tiles. You want to have the minimum number of combat encounters since the in-game timer only runs for those rooms. This means you hit all the story rooms, all the shops, all the fountains, and as many chaos rooms as possible. The bottle neck for finding a seed is the first well in Tartarus where you have to get an item that makes chaos spawn in the next eligible room, then you reroll the well to refill it with new items and buy another chaos room. So you have to find one specific tile, at one specific room number, and with a well that has exactly those items. If you find a seed that lets you do that, the rest of the routing is comparatively easy since there will be multiple ways to get everything else that are roughly equally fast. But getting that one specific combination is the needle in the haystack. (If anyone is interest in this stuff, the discord is super welcoming and helpful).
This is all really cool, thanks for sharing! If anything this reminds me the sheer amount of content they put in Hades, and it's amazing that you're able to sift through all that stuff to find the most optimal combinations.
I'm watching this in 1.5×, so I can enjoy it over my break period, and your diction is so good that I don't even need captions to understand. Thank you ❤️ (1/295 unvigintillion chance)

12:28, I have a feeling you have added a stray negative sign in these numbers. e# just stands for •10^(#), so 1/2.95E-68 would be an insanely large number. Just another example 1/2E3 is 1/2000, which is a 0.05% chance, but 1/2E-3 is 1/0.002, which is a 50000% chance

Very nice video, but for the final calculated odds, it should be 1/2.95E68 or just 2.96E-68. The shown one in the video is greater than 1 meaning you always get this setup, going against probability.
"one in this number", maybe they did mean "1 in 1/2.95E-68"; though I agree it's an odd way to say/show it visually; it's something like a 2.95E68 magnitude difference, isn't it? Either way, one is astronomically large and unfathomable, the other is beyond astronomically large and unfathomable
@@Aidiakapi I don't know how you got this number but it's absolutely wrong. By definition 1/e-1 = e1 That means 1/2.95e-68 = 2.95e68 Also what was probably meant was the opposite as 2.95e68 is a comically big number and obviously bigger than 1(being 100% chance). So it should be 1/2.95e68 (=2.95e-68) and it's a ridiculously small number. To put it in perspective the chances that Dream was not cheating on Minecraft and that he was just hella lucky is the size of the solar system if this 2.95e-68 was the size of a grain of rice, maybe even more than that
@@raphael122 I can tell you how they got this number: sure, 1/1e-69 is 1e69, but this 3.39e-69, which is 3.39 * 1e-69, so its inverse 1/(3,39e-69) will be 1/(3.39) * 1e69 = 0.295 * 1e69 = 2.95e68 Hope this made sense!
Hades is such an awesome game. I literally got 150 hours out of it for like 30$ and I got 35 hours out of Cyberpunk for 80$. I wish more developers would come up with games like this.
Hades's RNG reminds me of how RNG works in TWWHD explained here-ua-cam.com/video/1hs451PfFzQ/v-deo.html TL:DR static seed, everything increments the RNG call over the period of the game even the lights in a room is RNG based, you can roughly estimate where the RNG seed is at in a run given a couple of RNG calls you can find in this case a battleship board layout. Hades is similar in how you have to increment each RNG counter each time which makes it very tedious to run hades seeded runs since even voice lines are put into the RNG calls so that is why in seeded runs you continuously click a reroll button despite being out of attempts. I don't know if it can work for Hades but I'd love to see the RNG seed changed to a more static approach where all the calls are made off of the RNG seed alone and not how much it has progressed since it was created, numerous other games use this approach, Minecraft world generation and Slay the Spire are two examples, and I think could make running seeded Hades runs a lot more bearable. Also, new subscriber.
12:25 Let's see. If I'm understanding correctly, that's a 1 in 295 *unvigintillions* or 1 in 295 *undecillions* depending on the scale... Yup, unvigint- and undec- is the prefix associated to 21 and 11 respectively, both being 10^66.
For clarification to the 2.95E-68 being "lower" than 4.9E-34 at timestamp 12:23 the "E" stands for exponential. The number in the front is called the coefficient and the number after the E is called the exponent. So for example 10E5 means 10 times 10 to the power of 5, or 1000000 And if you put a minus sign before the exponent it's the same as saying 0.001% or saying it 1 in a thousand. Cool vid
@@officialnovadrome dude they're awesome 🔥🔥 you're one hell of a composer 💪. Just wondering; is there anywhere I can go to get the track used for the World Record Build section (4 - 6 mins approx). Just for listening to, not for professional usage, but very happy to pay :)
Great research ! I have been playing hades for a while and i have never found any pattern (im not really looking but some things just pop out sometimes) The only thing i have realized is that if you start with one god boon the same god will keep appearing. Maybe this is just coincidence.
Some people think rogue lites are about runs where you have to work with what you get. In reality end game you will usually get the build you want. It’s about cutting out that randomness.
My guess is that the weapon boons stack out of order, meaning the one is designed to lower your base weapon damage, but it gets offset by the rockets, which the mechanics don't apply the -30% to. Otherwise, idk, maybe hidden bonuses for combinations or something?
I'm a casual player. My all time record is 11 minutes with Heart Seeking Bow. Got Aphrodite's special, 2 or 3 chaos boons that raises special (can't remember how many), Hermes' +30% quicker special and both hammers that raises the special's power, of course.
About the "constant" mentioned later in the video... it is said that in an average galaxy like ours there are roughly 2,4x10^67 particles. Hence, the "abyssoft constant" is a larger number than this by 1 magnitude therefore it equals to the number of particles in 10 average sized galaxies. It's "yuuuuuge".
As for that number, the way it's read is: "One in two-hundred ninety five unvigintillion" Unvigin means 21. So where a million is one (6 zeroes), billion is two (9 zeroes), an unvigintillion is (21+1)*3 = 66 zeroes.
Preface: I seriously mean what I'm saying, not coming from sarcasm land. You know, I have to give you props on self naming that constant at the end. Yeah, I chuckled once I saw what you did there, but, that's pretty much a tradition in various STEM disciplines.
I mean, the seeded run is also under 3 minutes so 3minutes is a big difference. But yeah 5:50 is also a crazy good time. My best time is 10:30 with the fist and overall I get times around 11min with every weapon (except spear where I haven't been able to do better than 14:00) and those are like, actually pretty ok, like, I've got 250hours into the game I've beaten 32 heat I'm fairly decent at the game. So yeah cutting 5 minutes from that is pretty darn impressive. (and bear in mind I've given my best time but a less perfect and more relaxed run can last about half an hour, 10 minutes is allready like, getting all the right boons and having a crazy run where everything melts) It's legit hard to wrap my head around a 3 minute run. I'm not even out of tartarus at this point typically lol
2.95e-68 is a scientific notation used in mathematics, physics, chemistry, astronomy, and other sciences to handle either very large or very small numbers. With scientific notation, adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing numbers becomes much simpler. Use the following form to convert any other scientific notation into decimal notation: 2.95e-68 = 2.95 x 10-68 =
2:14 that's wrong though, heroic boons don't appear randomly for the most part. except the main slot ones if you already have the epic version of another god boon. All the others have to be obtained through upgrading them (typically with eurydice). So you can exclude the heroic boons from that for the most part I'd say.
I definitely had to take some liberties when calculating everything. The functions that determine how the game generates random events were quite complex (and available for access in the games lua files) So rather than spend an exorbitant amount of time calculating every possibility with the functions I opted for an easier calculation using the pool of possible items for each event speedrunners need to go in their favour. As an example the enemy spawn waves are weighted based on what you've encountered, and a few other factors, it makes for a mess when you're trying to calculate speedrun perfect odds
Assuming that you meant the Abyssoft constant to be 1/2.95E68, That'd be 1 in 295 unvigintillion or 295 vigintunillion. If you meant 2.95E-68, that'd be roughly 1 in 33.8 unvigintillion/vigintunillion.
2.95e68 is several orders of magnitude larger than the number of atoms in the solar system (baiscally the sun because that's where the mass is). Hitting that probability would be like, if a million million of our suns were gacha machines and their atoms were the gacha balls, you have to pull exactly one of those atoms.
the most popular new game category is fresh file, which is start a new game and get a win. The fastest weapon for that is the sword since you start with it, take the guaranteed Athena Dash and build towards Merciful End. You can also run other weapons but they're slower since you need to take intentional death(s) to earn enough keys to unlock that weapon. The other official category is Fresh File to Credits (FFTC), which needs 10 wins from a new file. The route can either start with a regular Fresh File approach where you get the first win with the sword, or take enough intentional deaths to buy enough upgrades (usually +1 dash and 1 revive) and clear with the bow, which is safer but slower. Then it's a matter of balancing winning runs and farming ones to get enough keys and Titan blood to upgrade your weapon of choice, and get the remaining wins with that weapon. As of now people have used Hestia rail, base bow, Hera bow, base sword and Eris rail. Might have more since the last I checked. For unofficial categories, there's Fresh File to any weapon of choice, Fresh File all weapons, which is 1 win with each weapon for a total of 6, and Fresh File All Aspects which is 1 win with each of the 24 weapons available, which is quite long because unlocking 6 of them is up to dialogue RNG.
Assuming you actually meant that the odds are 2.95E-68 (which itself is microscopic, not its reciprocal) then it is approximately 29½ duovigintillionths.
@@DavidWonn The number is correct, I've been getting a lot of comments about the notation being incorrect, which is what I thought you were referring to as well. But yes, I did mean that the odds are 2.95E-68
Impressive builds & strats, I will admit. The problem is though that you are always victim to rng since you still have to ensure that the boon/augment appears in the selection. You will never "conquer" rng, but you can mitigate it.
2.95E-68 is just 2.95 multiplied by 10 to the power of -68 Basically its moving the decimal point 68 times to the left because its at the power of -68. If you're wondering why we move left its because in highschool(?) we were taught that on a number line we go left for negative and right for positive. So the number would be: 0.0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000295 (This has 68 zeros and the decimal was move 68 points to the left you can double check tho if you don't believe me lmao)
As an interesting tidbit, the odds of shuffling a standard 52-card playing deck and getting a specific order is about 1.24 x 10^-68, so a perfect Hades run (by your estimate) is under half as likely as that.
There are a few errors beyond the statistical inaccuracies, there are also legendary and duo boons to factor in to the equation, as well as how some loadouts or boons prevent other boons from spawning altogether.

So 2.95E68 means roughly 3 and 68 zeroes (and as noted in other comments, either write 1:positive E, 1/positive E, or negative E without division)
To give some scale to the number
Consider picking 6 of 49 lottery with odds 1 in 13,983,816
this a measly 1E7 to win usually ~ milions $
2.95E68 is like winning roughly ten, hi prize lotteries, in a row, each on a single guess
with that much luck you can just be a milionare by going out of the house and tripping over a bag with millions of dollars :)
the deadpan about historical accuracy really got me
Couple of things left out (for those finding this vid now that Hades II has been announced):
1. Routed is one of the least popular categories. People usually start running one of the many non-routed categories. There are a ton of them. There are even official modded categories to reduce the number of resets and rng. (E.g. The number of Styx paths becomes fixed so you don't lose a good run at the very end.)
What Discord is that ? I'd love to join !
I'm watching this in 1.5×, so I can enjoy it over my break period, and your diction is so good that I don't even need captions to understand. Thank you ❤️
(1/295 unvigintillion chance)
The technical name for the number is "absolutely massive mate"

Very Nice display of how Hades works. I really love this game, and I don't really see many videos explaining the runs. I would really love to watch a progression or historical series about it anytime. Also to watch commentary on specific categories (if any).
Anyway, amazing work on the video!
I would love to watch something regarding Blasphemous as well
12:28, I have a feeling you have added a stray negative sign in these numbers. e# just stands for •10^(#), so 1/2.95E-68 would be an insanely large number.
Just another example 1/2E3 is 1/2000, which is a 0.05% chance, but 1/2E-3 is 1/0.002, which is a 50000% chance
I am so happy someone else saw that
Well, since 1/x is inverse the 1st number, that'd be 2.95E68, but still. We are searching for E68 at the bottom.
Incredibly informational and well made video! Keep it up :3
POOKIE IS HERE
I bought Hades this morning and lo and behold, Abyssoft posts a video on it later the same day. Nice.
It's really really fun. Save up darkness, dont worry too much about winning right away, it's best to get keys and darkness and talk to everyone after each run. Try to bang Meg too that's important
@@martymcfly88mph35 Yeah, I already assumed death as part of the process and I've been having quite a bit of fun. And I can bang Meg? Whaaaaaaat, goty much?

Loved the video! Had me in the first half where I was like “wtf is this guy taking about Vorime’s run is- oooooh.”
Only gentle criticism is the incorrect pronunciation of some of the Ancient Greek names, which like… is fair. Shit’s old and weird.
Thanks for covering my favorite game, and for correctly gendering Chaos!
Fictional characters don't have gender identities
I’ve been playing hades a lot recently and have been going down the hades rabbit hole on UA-cam and you a UA-camr I am subbed to just so happens to come out with a hades vide
Wut the heck
My best time is just sub 9 minutes on switch and I had no idea how they did it faster. Adamant rocket is my go to build, but I gave up on catching the speedruners and started focusing on high heat
This video was awesome dude ! I loved all the explanation behind, the rythm and music were on point... Super nice job !
Very nice video, but for the final calculated odds, it should be 1/2.95E68 or just 2.96E-68. The shown one in the video is greater than 1 meaning you always get this setup, going against probability.
You have 2.95e70% chances to get this run, that's slightly over 9000.
@@Joe_from_Rionice
Nice subtle “summoning salt” Easter egg! I caught that
THE EDITING IS SO GOOD
1 / 2.95E-68 is bigger than one, I think you just mean 2.95E-68
Agree with that
"one in this number", maybe they did mean "1 in 1/2.95E-68"; though I agree it's an odd way to say/show it visually; it's something like a 2.95E68 magnitude difference, isn't it?
Either way, one is astronomically large and unfathomable, the other is beyond astronomically large and unfathomable
Or maybe they meant 3.39e-69 = 1/(2.95e68), regardless, it's the kind of number that's unattainable without RNG manipulation.
@@Aidiakapi I don't know how you got this number but it's absolutely wrong.
By definition 1/e-1 = e1
That means 1/2.95e-68 = 2.95e68
Also what was probably meant was the opposite as 2.95e68 is a comically big number and obviously bigger than 1(being 100% chance).
So it should be 1/2.95e68 (=2.95e-68) and it's a ridiculously small number.
To put it in perspective the chances that Dream was not cheating on Minecraft and that he was just hella lucky is the size of the solar system if this 2.95e-68 was the size of a grain of rice, maybe even more than that
@@raphael122 I can tell you how they got this number: sure, 1/1e-69 is 1e69, but this 3.39e-69, which is 3.39 * 1e-69, so its inverse 1/(3,39e-69) will be 1/(3.39) * 1e69 = 0.295 * 1e69 = 2.95e68
Hope this made sense!
295 unvigintillion is the closest thing we have to a standard name for it, I think.
Love your editing
Thanks

Welcome aboard, always happy to have such detailed comments from subscribers
12:25 Let's see. If I'm understanding correctly, that's a 1 in 295 *unvigintillions* or 1 in 295 *undecillions* depending on the scale... Yup, unvigint- and undec- is the prefix associated to 21 and 11 respectively, both being 10^66.

For clarification to the 2.95E-68 being "lower" than 4.9E-34 at timestamp 12:23 the "E" stands for exponential. The number in the front is called the coefficient and the number after the E is called the exponent. So for example 10E5 means 10 times 10 to the power of 5, or 1000000
And if you put a minus sign before the exponent it's the same as saying 0.001% or saying it 1 in a thousand. Cool vid

Another heat speed runners use is tight deadline. They use this because it stops the hades “fight against the clock” rooms not spawn.
Great research ! I have been playing hades for a while and i have never found any pattern (im not really looking but some things just pop out sometimes) The only thing i have realized is that if you start with one god boon the same god will keep appearing. Maybe this is just coincidence.
Damn. I’ve never played Hades but this is a super interesting one.
Highly recommended game
This video has inspired me to run more hades !
That's it. Abyssoft Constant will now be in gaming history.
5:14 literally lol'd. Good delivery
No Computer is capable of pure random. Awesome video!
Some people think rogue lites are about runs where you have to work with what you get. In reality end game you will usually get the build you want. It’s about cutting out that randomness.
I like how the idea of speedrunning is to do the game fast. But it takes ages to accomplish
My guess is that the weapon boons stack out of order, meaning the one is designed to lower your base weapon damage, but it gets offset by the rockets, which the mechanics don't apply the -30% to. Otherwise, idk, maybe hidden bonuses for combinations or something?
Maybe because damage of rockets is really fixed
The name of the number is two-hundred-ninety-five Duovigintillion
“Day-dahw-lus” hammer lol
great video invested whole way through
It's like they knew about how ridiculous this build was when they made the 2nd surface boss in Hades 2 😭😭😭
Don't worry, I'll be covering Hades 2 when it fully releases
If you meant to say 1/2.95E+68, a very small chance, I think that’s 1 in 295 unvigintillion. (21-illion)
Love the Summoning Salt reference 👌
As for that number, the way it's read is: "One in two-hundred ninety five unvigintillion"
Unvigin means 21.
3:48 No! That is not how percentage multiplication works! It should be 1.05 * 1.05 = 1.1025 = +10.25%
1:59 can't believe you forgot my boy Hermes 😭 talking about speed runs 😭😭
Haven't played in a while, gonna have to pick it back up!
Great video man thanks
Great video, only thing that bugged me was the horrific pronunciation of things like “Asphodel” and “Daedalus”, but that’s just nitpicking lmao
You totally mispronounced Daedalus hammer. It’s not “day doll us” it’s “day duh lis”.
The fact the unseeded run is only 3 minutes longer is far more spectacular in my opinion. Like how is that not considered a perfect run?!?! 😲
(and bear in mind I've given my best time but a less perfect and more relaxed run can last about half an hour, 10 minutes is allready like, getting all the right boons and having a crazy run where everything melts)
It's legit hard to wrap my head around a 3 minute run.
Use the following form to convert any other scientific notation into decimal notation:
2.95e-68 = 2.95 x 10-68 =
Wait so you have a 2.95e70% chance of getting the right RNG? usually it caps at 100% but I like those odds.
never tell me the odds
12:07 That's fifty nine divided by two douvigintillion.
8:56 summoning salt! You little cutie.
I like the subtle sarcasm
12:23 its 2.95 * 10 raised to the power of -68. Basically divide 2.95 with 1(68 zeroes)
The functions that determine how the game generates random events were quite complex (and available for access in the games lua files)
So rather than spend an exorbitant amount of time calculating every possibility with the functions I opted for an easier calculation using the pool of possible items for each event speedrunners need to go in their favour.
As an example the enemy spawn waves are weighted based on what you've encountered, and a few other factors, it makes for a mess when you're trying to calculate speedrun perfect odds
@@Abyssoft Yeah, I get that, thought I'd just point that one out cause it's actually useful for people to know =p

Assuming that you meant the Abyssoft constant to be 1/2.95E68,
That'd be 1 in 295 unvigintillion or 295 vigintunillion.
It looks like this speed run is for a category where you start with all the upgrades available to you. What about for a new game speedrun?
the most popular new game category is fresh file, which is start a new game and get a win.
For unofficial categories, there's Fresh File to any weapon of choice, Fresh File all weapons, which is 1 win with each weapon for a total of 6, and Fresh File All Aspects which is 1 win with each of the 24 weapons available, which is quite long because unlocking 6 of them is up to dialogue RNG.

eh in a way i guess
They're both roguelikes, but that's about the end of the similarities

Assuming you actually meant that the odds are 2.95E-68 (which itself is microscopic, not its reciprocal) then it is approximately 29½ duovigintillionths.
Google sheets gave me the wrong scientific notation, my out of practice mathematical mind just copied the number into After Effects
@@Abyssoft No problem. If you find the correct number, I can provide its name in arcane naming conventions. :-)
@@DavidWonn The number is correct, I've been getting a lot of comments about the notation being incorrect, which is what I thought you were referring to as well.
But yes, I did mean that the odds are 2.95E-68
I have played this game alot and never realised this is how they do speed runs of this game that is amazing and mind blowing
Impressive builds & strats, I will admit.
The problem is though that you are always victim to rng since you still have to ensure that the boon/augment appears in the selection.
You will never "conquer" rng, but you can mitigate it.
2.95E-68 is just 2.95 multiplied by 10 to the power of -68
Basically its moving the decimal point 68 times to the left because its at the power of -68. If you're wondering why we move left its because in highschool(?) we were taught that on a number line we go left for negative and right for positive.
So the number would be:
0.0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000295 (This has 68 zeros and the decimal was move 68 points to the left you can double check tho if you don't believe me lmao)
As an interesting tidbit, the odds of shuffling a standard 52-card playing deck and getting a specific order is about 1.24 x 10^-68, so a perfect Hades run (by your estimate) is under half as likely as that.

What about legendary boons? I think you forgot to count those, or counted them too many times, since they can't have different rarities.
8:19 correct me if i'm wrong but you seem to be comparing 1st seeded to 6th unseeded. why not use 1st unseeded?
There are a few errors beyond the statistical inaccuracies, there are also legendary and duo boons to factor in to the equation, as well as how some loadouts or boons prevent other boons from spawning altogether.
