I saw this tour in Houston at an ampitheatre. It was pouring down rain. She came out and after the opening she said, "You people are insane but if you're here we aren't get to let the rain stop us." We were soaked but the concert was worth it.
My favorite AG album. I listened to this in 1988 when I was 15 and it blew me away by the intimacy of the lyrics, musical compositions, and overall tone. I'm glad it wasn't pop friendly, but more of a personal reflection of where she was in her life during this time.
@MC-eu1hx Everyone sins. She's human. You're human. I'm human. Look at these types of songs as cautionary tales. The song might not mean much to you, but maybe there's someone out there that needed to hear it. I'm a musician. I listen to the music first then the lyrics. This is a lovely song in my opinion. The entire album is intimate. As a 15 year old listening and reading the lyrics were great. For someone to bear their personal feelings in this way is awesome.

In the course of a year, I saw this tour in Lexington KY, Dayton OH, Indianapolis IN, and King's Island Cincinnati. It was truly magnificent seeing here at her peak, tons of energy, top level production and in venues sold out from 10,000 to 20,000 people! They were supposed to have filmed some to release as a live concert video but that never materialized.
If this was in Connecticut I was at this show! I recognize her outfit! Years later her amazing background vocalist Donna McElroy became my private voice teacher. What a blessing!
Awesome story about Donna McElroy. She did one solo project herself, called A Bigger World. I bought the CD when I was in graduate school. She was excellent as always doing a mix of jazz, R&B, pop, and gospel.
Amy often said that some of her back up vocalists were much better singers than her, and that it was only the "grace of God" that led her to sing for thousands. She's always been very humble.
Absolutely brilliant early days concert of Amy Grant and a fantastic performance, the songs she sings brings back alot of my teenage memories growing up listening to her songs were a smash hit of our times back then here in Australia. Today I am so thrilled to have come across this video wow and awesome. Thanks for posting
This is amazing! Thank you for uploading. I wish I could of gone to this tour. This is my favorite album by Amy Grant! I was 11 going on 12 around this time!
This concert is pretty unique I love the choir is great! Chris Rodriguez playing the electrical guitar , the keyboard player , right after Amy & Michael many others artist came along such beloved Kathy Troccoli!
Amy often said that some of her back up vocalists were much better singers than her, and that it was only the "grace of God" that led her to sing for thousands. She's always been very humble.
Missed this tour, Saw her first time in 1986, then 1989 when she was preggo with daughter, Millie, then half a dozen more times after that. thanks for uploading what I missed
I sure do wish we had a pristine copy of this concert, even if only the audio. The fact that it was recorded for potential release is tantalizing but I suppose that if it were ever going to be released, it would have happened in conjunction with the 20th anniversary re-release of the album and the subsequent reunion tour in 2008. Probably won't ever see the light of day officially...
I'd rather have seen the reunion tour released, since she performed more songs from the album on that tour than this original tour. In particular, judging from uploaded videos, the 2008 live version of "What About the Love" (which was not performed during the 1988-89 tour) is more haunting than the studio original. But since Amy had just released in 2006 her Time Again audio and video recordings of a 2005 Fort Worth concert, there's no way she was going to do another live release so soon.
Great news for you! She just released the audio from the Ft. Worth show earlier this month! Lead Me On Live 1989 on all streaming platforms and on double CD.
I remember seeing her on this tour. She still hadn't developed the magnetic stage presence that she had just a few years later. I also remember thinking that she seemed profoundly unhappy under the bubbly exterior and that there was deep tension between her and Chapman. It is so nice to see her happy now.
Amy Grant's marriage to her first husband, the drug and alcohol addicted Gary Chapman, was extremely unhappy long before she even met Vince Gill. (He kept his addictions secret until he married her.) She has never revealed the truth about the suffering she had to endure at the hands of Gary, for the sake of her 3 children by him. Hence she became the target of criticism in the Christian world. She said that one day the truth will be revealed, hence, she is content to stay silent. Gary Chapman was also extremely jealous of Amy's success.
I first saw her on the 1986 unguarded encore tour, then not again until her 1995 Decade of Hits (i.e., House of Love) tour. She is much closer here in persona to the former tour than the latter one. And, not surprisingly but somewhat disappointingly, there are more unguarded songs in this set list than Lead Me On songs, with surprising omissions such as "What About the Love" and "1974." Clearly the goal was to keep the more lighthearted air of unguarded than embrace the more thoughtful, melancholic air of Lead Me On.
Audio/video quality is not great, but boy does this bring back memories! Setlist: Fight Shadows Find A Way Everywhere I Go If You Have to Go Away Stay for a While Saved By Love Lonesome Road All Right El Shaddai O Little Town of Bethlehem (Chris Eaton)/Immanuel Introduction of Band Amazing Grace (Band) Love of Another Kind Sharayah Stepping in Your Shoes Wise Up Lead Me On Angels Say Once More Band: Amy Grant - Vocals, Acoustic Guitar Jerry McPherson - Guitar Chris Rodriguez - Guitar, Vocals Chris Eaton - Keyboards, Vocals Ken Rarick - Keyboards Gary Chapman - Bass Warren Ham - Sax, Vocals Greg Morrow - Drums Terry McMillan - Percussion, Harmonica Donna McElroy - Vocals
Amazing concert. I always wanted to see this live. Lead me On is very inspired. I got goose bumps listening to the intro. Finale of Lead Me On is truly incredible
I saw this maybe three times live, the last show at the tour end was a hoot with all the shenanigans, they brought a cow on stage and had disc gunfights, got to meet Amy that last night. but Micael W Smith was on the shows I saw , the percussionist / Harmonica guy was amazing
Me and my mom went to this concert when I was 4 years old in North Carolina. I got the Lead Me On picture book from the merch stand. I remember they had these tickets you could fill out for a chance to get to meet her and I was hoping to get my book signed lol. Hey I was 4 years old, I thought it could happen , lol. I was a huge fan of Amy Grant from 3- 8 ish. She was my moms favorite and I always thought she looked so pretty. Thought my mom liked like her too but watching this video now, I’m thinking that was intentional on my moms part seeing as she copied this exact hair style well into the mid 90s lol.
I thought I had heard all of Amy’s songs but her song that she sang when. She was 16 didn’t have that much about God in the lyrics like todays songs , but they are all beautiful lol subscriber and friend Robin Pressley
What a difference a few years makes. The attached concert was full of heart-felt spiritual messsages. But this one...felt very commercial and devoid of spirituality. Just my opinion. ua-cam.com/video/lXXN4-leALw/v-deo.html
Yes. She got tired of Godly songs and got into secular. I don’t mind that…. but what is sad is that she became far from Scripture relating the Gay Agenda. I don’t care the divorce, there were reasons.
Nice to be with you,I love the wa you sing i often think of you🤪🥰😄😍🤩😋😛😀😃😄Je Pense A toi i listen often to this song sang by Dana Winner. And your song ( Like i love you).
I'm sure the sax player has also toured with Olivia Newton-John. Mostly as a backup singer, but some sax. The lead guitar player tours with Faith Hill to this day.
This was my first concert ever! I was so excited!! I loved Amy grant ❤

Lead me on is such a rocking timeless song
This might be my favorite Amy era. I was only an 8 year old, but man I was in love with her...
ME TOO!!!!
i know the feeling :)
My favorite Amy years were between "Lead me on" and "Heart in motion". She was a goddess!!
@@affigueiredo74 They were the best concerts! :)
well i forgot- Unguarded were the best concerts
The best musics of Amy Grant!! Great concert!👏👏👏

Greg Christopfel I was there in Lexington as well! I lived how they got us geared up with the theme songs first. It was great.
...sounds like that footage isn't going to waste after all, new release announced recently.
This was my first concert. I still love her!
Went to this concert, I forgot they used the Flinestones theme during the opening.
I went to concert with the flintstone Gary was dressed like Fred Flinstone- and Amy Wilma- and pregnant- Costa Mesa California :)
Dutybound Servant
Me too. I saw her in San Jose, California: Shoreline Amphitheater.
My FAVORITE Album!! I still know every single word!! ❤
Pure gold!!
If this was in Connecticut I was at this show! I recognize her outfit! Years later her amazing background vocalist Donna McElroy became my private voice teacher. What a blessing!
The background lady is awesome! she's very good I noticed both of them in the "Sing your praise to the Lord"
Awesome story about Donna McElroy. She did one solo project herself, called A Bigger World. I bought the CD when I was in graduate school. She was excellent as always doing a mix of jazz, R&B, pop, and gospel.
Donna McElroy had a presence and my goodness what a voice. She was a beautiful part of that band

Just found this album on vinyl for 5 bucks. Bargain of a lifetime!
Great price. Congrats!
Great concert, 🎶 👍 thanks for sharing, wonderful music 🎶 🎵 ❤️
I saw this and Unguarded while in college. "Lead Me On" is my favorite album though!
I saw this concert. I’ve seen her about ten times and she’s only gotten better.
Matt was a toddler during this time and she brought him on stage.
This is amazing! Thank you for uploading. I wish I could of gone to this tour. This is my favorite album by Amy Grant! I was 11 going on 12 around this time!
Thanks for sharing this great video it brings some good memories, for instance this was my last cassette recording I ever bought !
Super great concert!

So fabulous 😍!!!
I wonder if a good master of this exists somewhere. What a great classic release that would be!
You are SO RIGHT! I would totally get it!
I still have the concert ticket stub for this concert.
Amy Grant = Voice of An Angel.
No, that would be Karen carpenter
Amy often said that some of her back up vocalists were much better singers than her, and that it was only the "grace of God" that led her to sing for thousands. She's always been very humble.
I've seen Amy 12 or so times. Favorites were Unguarded and Lead Me On tours.
Funny how in my late 50's a "cafe" concert sounds awesome 😉😂❤️
I got you beat. I think it's around 14 or 15 times. I lost count.
CONFIRMED this is the Connecticut show!! WOOOOOOWWWW
It's not Connecticut. She says the city in the show.

Man what an era in music this was. Jerry McPherson is a beast 👌👌👌 well as is Chris Rodrigues 🔥🔥🔥
The last song she sang 😭omg the cutest sweetest ending.

Amazing concert. I always wanted to see this live. Lead me On is very inspired. I got goose bumps listening to the intro. Finale of Lead Me On is truly incredible
The quality of the Age to Age concert was much better.
Both this concert and the Age to Age one are awesome...representing different phases of her career.
Nobody is talking about whether her videos were awesome or not. We are talking about audio quality,.
@@ruthstafford7864 The intro is very complex, sophisticated, and musically on the level of Genesis or Rush.
Bom demais !!!
She brought the show to the UK in August of 1988. I saw the headline slot at the Greenbelt Festival. Fist time I got to see her and it was brilliant
Saw Amy just five minutes
from my house in London☺

If this was the Dallas show, I was there. 💕 I always wondered when the *VHS* would be released. 🤪
where is this footage from??? wow!
I did not accept Christ until 91 when Amy was well into her secular career.I wish I could have seen this concert.
I don’t think Amy went secular even if many of her songs were pop oriented.

Probably on his own tour or recording his next CD. I believe Chris Eaton, who was the opening act, handled keyboard duties for this tour.
