I really like how Amy always graciously allows Kim to really belt out those high notes with abandon. It makes the song soar every time. There are many artists who would be too insecure to let another singer have that kind of moment. And the other musicians! What a great, great bunch of artists.
Yip its a great song no matter what faith you are , I was Christened , but do not go for much of the Christian Mumbo Jumbo , I just like this song great Guitar work , Amy is a looker as well , V V
Totally agree. I'm a Christian but most of the CCM songs sound alike and don't have meaning. The only other exception is "Held" by Natalie Grant, which deals with Grant's friends suffering losses within 48 hours of each other.
Y'all need to get out more: have you seen Phil Keaggy play jazz? How about Marc Martel of Downhere? If you have seen the Queen movie, you have heard him. Many of his originals are superior lyrically for me to most of Freddie's- and I love Freddie. One of our greatest contemporary composers, and vocalists.
I LOVE this song, and this is one of my all time favorite albums, too. The rare, truly timeless record, a real gem. And as a fellow musician, I salute the artistry and musicianship on every single track.
I love all the songs of singer AMY GRANT and very fan, I like all the songs Lead Me On, Friends, Baby Baby, Saved By Love, House Of Love, That's What Love Is For, Oh How The Years Go By, Every Heartbeat, Good For Me, and etc ... I love them all, and this singer just rocked the Lead Me On song 😍😘
Shoulder to the wheel For someone else's selfish gain Here there is no choosing Working the clay Wearing their anger like a ball and chain. Fire in the field Underneath a blazing sun But soon the sun was faded And freedom was a song I heard them singing when the day was done Singing to the holy One. Lead me on Lead me on To a place where the river runs Into your keeping, oh. Lead me on Lead me on The awaited deliverance Comforts the seeking, lead on. Waiting for the train Labelled with a golden star Heavy hearted boarding Whispers in the dark "Where are we going--is it very far?" Bitter cold terrain Echoes of a slamming door In chambers made for sleeping, forever Voices like thunder in a mighty roar Cry to the Lord. Lead me on Lead me on To a place where the river runs Into your keeping, oh. Lead me on Lead me on The awaited deliverance Comforts the seeking, lead on. Man hurts man Time and time, time again And we drown in the wake of our power Somebody tell me why. Lead me on Lead me on To a place where the river runs Into your keeping, oh. Lead me on Lead me on The awaited deliverance Comforts the seeking, lead on. Lead me on Lead me on To a place where the river runs Into your keeping, oh. Thank you for the lyrics! Seems like she was talking about slavery, then about the Holocaust at one point! Amazing, that I never caught that before today.
@@oliviaturner7388 Last sentence of the chorus ‘The awaited deliverance comforts the seeking’ summarizes the song. The verses are indeed examples of suffering people who were seeking for God’s guideness.
Absolutely a wonderful song! Amy always knew how to put out such great music! Just wondering who is that great backup singer? She is so talented with her voice!
Kim Keyes. Very talented and has been backing Amy up now for quite a number of years. Peter Cetera had Amy Grant on as a guest when he did Soundstage, and he & Kim Keyes perform “After All” together.
O nome da backing vocal é Kim Keyes e ela é um ARROMBO de lendária. Tbm tem vários vídeos dela com o Peter Cetera, se vc der um Google. Veio pro Brasil com ele em 2013.
Wikipedia has a strong entry into this. Changing key signatures from 6/8 to 4/4, and the kick-butt intro? This sounds more Genesis/Yes than light pop. Not quite Zeppelin, but if it came from Geddy Lee and Rush most people wouldn't be opposed to it. Solid lyrics too. I've read numerous reviews that said this is one of her best songs and the only one that stands the test of time on that album.
Totally agreed about this track. Amy's best stuff is really good beyond being catchy, with strong musicality underneath. She's worked with a lot of really good songwriters and producers over the years. As far as the Lead Me On album, it's been several years since I listened to it but I recall thinking that it's fairly strong songwise and holds up well for something from the 80s, not just his track.
joethebar1 I don’t think this is pitchy. She can be sometimes but there are many live recordings I’ve heard of hers that are far better than her studio work
I hate the fact that the drummer didn't get the drum part correct. He should've added the drum roll during the verses like in the album/studio version.
This song is one of the most beautiful song i know of i thank God for her and this song
My favorite Amy Grant song,, I ❤ her so much.
Super Song! And the Back-Vocals with Kim Keyes - WOW!!!
Her squealing is horrific and detracts from an otherwise wonderful song. Ugh. And the constant fiddling with her earpiece. She is totally superfluous.
Kim's squealing is almost intolerable. Any more would have completely destroyed this otherwise fabulous performance.
relative view!
Isn't every view "relative"? Kind of the nature of music, no?
Owsley on guitar is the secret sauce to this performance. 😊👍
His exit from this earth is still painful, heavens gain is still our loss for now.

Ugh, that squealing is the absolute WORST part of an otherwise wonderful performance.
Can't stand Christian music, but this song and this woman will never get old.
Yip its a great song no matter what faith you are , I was Christened , but do not go for much of the Christian Mumbo Jumbo , I just like this song great Guitar work , Amy is a looker as well , V V
whats wrong with christian music. amy grant is the best in christian music

Amy grant songs help me cope with the death of my wife it's like her songs have healing for your insides that no medicine can do
What a slammin' band! Wow!
RIP Will Owsley (lead guitar)
Didn't know until i read this post.
What a loss in many ways
We all gotta die of something. Make your life worth something. Hint: Geezis BS is only for YOU. Try to do better.....or STFU.
Lead Me On is one of my favorites, Amy Grant or otherwise, yet many don't even know this song exists.
I LOVE this song, and this is one of my all time favorite albums, too. The rare, truly timeless record, a real gem. And as a fellow musician, I salute the artistry and musicianship on every single track.

Great song!!
Great band and that backing singer, wow
That would be Kim Keyes. She's an absolute legend and it's a SIN that she isn't more well known as a singer.
So relevant in 2021
Powerfully done - the BEST live performance I have ever heard! Had to buy the DVD...
Were so glad you finally made it 😁
Mad props to the backup singer!
That's Kim Keyes - she's legendary
Kim Keyes is simply a LEGEND. I really wished she had a more pronounced solo career
Her screeching is a distraction.
love it ,the top of pop music
Superb . Thank You
What else needs to be said. The song nearly had me tears just now.

I thought the album was pretty consistent. This live version just smokes the album version (the backup vocals in this are heavenly)

The extremely talented Michael W Smith should probably get most of the writing/arranging credit here.
@@JohnLnyc Yes. MWS said that this was his favorite song that he wrote for somebody else.

amy has always been a pitchy live singer-some people do their best work in the studio which isn't a bad thing.
joethebar1 I don’t think this is pitchy. She can be sometimes but there are many live recordings I’ve heard of hers that are far better than her studio work
I also hate the fact that the bass player missed his triplets during the chorus as played in the album version.

Paul Leim is a monster on that track
Who in the world goes to a live show wishing to hear the studio version? Props to all these folks for actually playing and singing.
I liked the song yet the Zion National Park video was definitely so much better. Why are you so nervous in this video.
Shes doing a home show, always more pressure cause Nashville crowds are dead at shows 😖
She is from Tennessee and this show is in Texas. What are you talking about?
groove is a bit stiff
The showgirl steps on Amy's humility 😮😮😮😮 The showgirl changes the ending with bad screams
