My favorite version of this song, by far, is the one on his iconic, live “Frampton Comes Alive” double album. You should check that one out. So much better. You guys need to hit a few other songs from that, like “Lines on My Face” and “Do You Feel Like We Do.”
It's funny, I don't think I ever heard this version. Only the Comes Alive version like you said, which was a huge hit when I was a teenager.
Yeah, it was more upbeat too.
I agree! I played the heck out of that album!
Yeah, I prefer studio versions, or in cases like this, the live versions that were hits. I think they were cheated by listening to this version.
@@BillGraper Agree. This one lacks the emotion.
Never actually heard this studio version. It's good. Like everyone in my generation (OLD) I had Frampton Comes Alive. And when I say everyone, I mean Everyone. Saying that album was massive doesn't even begin to cover it. But it is nice to hear this.
I graduated high school 10 years after Frampton Comes Alive came out, and EVERYONE had it then for sure.
I think I've owned four or five copies of Frampton Comes Alive in my lifetime. Everyone I knew had it, and when they warped their first copies, they ran out and bought it again. One of the best selling albums of all time. Definitely use that album as source material for Frampton.
You are absolutely spot on with your comment.✌"Everyone"
The “Frampton Comes Alive” version is so iconic... I guess it being live adds a sparkle of extra magic to it.
Better than the studio version by MILES!
Live version is just iconic!
I was 1 of millions that owned and played Frampton Comes Alive album a lot. Yes most definitely live version is better
@@ursanator I think if you were a white kid in the suburbs it was required that you had " Frampton Comes Alive "
"Frampton Comes Alive" may be the best live album ever. And the live version of this song is the one that got all the airplay.
I thought so at the time, but I was 14. Listened to it three years ago, thought it was incredibly mediocre with a few highlights. There's a reason you'd find more copies of "Frampton Comes Alive" than anything else in used record stores back in the day.
Several contenders for greatest live album, but this isn't among them. Hard to beat the Allmans at Fillmore East, Who's Live at Leeds, James Brown's 1962 Apollo album, 1969 Velvet Underground Live, the Springsteen live box set (or the 1980 Roxy bootleg!) or about 75 Dead concert albums.
I don't know that ive ever heard the studio version of this song, only the live version. This one is definitely a more mellow vibe to it. Frampton Comes Alive is one of the best-selling ablums of all time.
Check out the studio version of "Do You Feel Like We Do" here on UA-cam. Much slower tempo than the Frampton Comes Alive version that everyone knows.
I love this song but I’ve never heard this version. Only ever heard the live version. 😬
Yes Peter is a guitar player and he plays all the guitar on his recorded records, But as people have mentioned you should recheck out this song on his Live record from the 70's "Frampton Comes alive" It's the best selling live record of all time. Live he uses a talk box alot.
um ... i think. you might want to google those stats
Anything by Peter Frampton comes alive is mind blowing.... Pick one doesn't matter
Frampton is a master on the guitar
Peter Frampton really has a beautiful voice. I always loved listening to him.
I completely forgot there were studio versions of Peter's music...LOL. Always heard/listened to this from his live "Frampton Comes Alive" album.
And yes Jay, Peter is also a fabulous guitarist. Considered one of the best ever.
I know. I started listening and thought, "this is a different version." LOL
@@leonabarad6972 - I said, "this doesn't sound right."
Exactly! I'm like wth is this😂
I was going to leave this video because I thought it was a remake and the music sounded weird. But I finished it. I didn’t know there was a studio version even back when I saw him do it.
Same here!
Wow, the studio version of this sounds SO different! I didn't even know there was a studio version lol Frampton was a master!
From the famous album "Frampton Comes Alive." He had a great acoustic sound. "Show Me The Way" and "I'm In You" are two more BANGERS from him!!!
EDIT: Aw, man! This version sounds great, but you have to listen to the version that was a hit!
Because you both are Bee Gees fans, just to let you know, Peter Frampton was in a movie with the Bee Gees. "Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band" (1977). It's a cheesy movie, but loaded with 70s rock bands performing very well. The ending credits to the movie is like a "who's who" in 70s rock & pop music.
Maybe the worst rock 'n' roll movie ever made. (Or does "Xanadu" claim that honor?) As a Beatles fanatic, I've got the DVD and the album.
I like the movie's cover of the title song leading into I'll get by with a little help from my friends', but what on earth is Peter wearing? It looks like a toddler's romper suit!
Frampton is Legendary.
Why was Frampton Comes Alive so popular?
Because he owned the stage. His presence, his guitar work, he performed like it's nobody's business. And anyone who listened to this record could hear the sheer brilliance of his performances. And the album bridged '70s hard rock and '80s pop rock.
I heartily agree with the other commenters saying the live version of this is so much better. That said, great choice and great reaction.
The live version was the hit, and we are used to it. I agree, they have to hear the hit version from the live album.
The standing joke was that the Frampton Comes Alive album was just straight-out issued to every boy and girl in the nation during the late1970s and 1980s.
Frampton Comes Alive? Everybody in the world has Frampton Comes Alive. If you lived in the suburbs you were issued it. It came in the mail with samples of "Tide".
He was in the band Faces well before this. I knew him first from " Sergeant Peppers" Lonely Hearts club band movie. Then " Do you Feel Like I Do". Yes , I'm old. Had a huge crush.
OMG, in all the years since he recorded this song, I never heard the studio version. I've only heard the live version from the infamous and outstanding Peter Frampton Live album. This album is a must as others have said. PLEASE, for your listening pleasure! 💞💞💞
As everyone else has mentioned, this is not the popular version we were all used to hearing. Peter Frampton Comes Alive is the way to go 😊.
Peter Frampton is one of best guitar players of all time and his voice is like butter. And his live performances were just next level. His live album, Frampton Comes Alive, was a major part of the soundtrack to my teen years. I actually think it was against the law to NOT have that album in the 1970s. That's just how popular it was. 😂
People used to joke that it was handed out to every teenager in the suburbs!
I still have my original copy of the album. I think it's illegal to get rid of it. 🙂
Still have my Frampton Comes Alive album on vinyl AND I have the one recorded live when he did the anniversary tour and recreated the album. Each night in each city you could buy that night’s show.
I love this too, (only saying it cause I’m too old to go to jail) but I have to disagree with the comment that his voice is like butter, more like margarine, or shortening. His strength is guitar
I’m also one of the 25million.
Along with Rumours,EVERYONE had that album on their shelves in the 70’s.
Frampton is one of the most talented guitarists on the planet.
The 1970's are defined by some incredible acts and Peter Frampton is one of them. His sound makes me think of sitting on a raft in a lake during the summer and getting a great tan, splashing in the water and enjoying my friends. Nothing was better and more free.
I have heard this sing a bazillion times, but I think this is the first time I have ever heard the studio version. This has always been played from the Comes Alive album.
Yes, me too.
Same here, who knew?!
Never heard the studio version, love the live version🤘
Frampton on guitar and vocals was always on fire! We might be the older generation but we had the best music, lol.
I'm sure others have told you, but the version of this song that was a hit was the live version, not the studio version. Same is true of two other songs: "Show Me The Way" and "Do You Feel Like We Do." A big hit he had that was not live was "I'm in You." A minor hit that was also not live was "Lying."
Anything done by Frampton should come off of his double live album "Frampton Comes Alive". It was pretty much a must have for anybody growing up in the 70s and 80s.
Peter Frampton
🌟🌟 "Do You Feel Like We Do" 🌟🌟
Must be the FULL VERSION from the
"Frampton Comes Alive" album. 🎵❤✌
Rick Beato has a great “What Makes This Song Great” episode in the live version of DYFLWD. It’s well worth the 35 minutes.
From Frampton Come Alive...
Ooooop no no no. THE LIVE VERSION is legendary!
I spent hundreds of hours as a teenager laying on my bed with the headphones on and listening to this man's music. Brings back such great memories!
Frampton is a world class guitar player. Unlike many players, he is always better live. Keep going.
Frampton is a guitar legend. Try listening to "All I Wanna Be Is By Your Side" the live version from Frampton Comes Alive.
I love that one! The way the audience comes in and participates is so special.
Yep, count me among the people who forgot there was a studio version of this! Like everyone else has says, Frampton Comes Alive is ICONIC, and any song from it is AMAZING!!! And Do You Feel Like We Do is EVERYTHING!!! 🤩😍
This song was never popular as a studio version. It became immensely popular as a live version from the album "Frampton Comes Alive".
Frampton used to joke that he wrote his 3 best songs in one afternoon. This, Do You Feel Like We Do, and Show Me the Way, were all written on one holiday in the Bahamas. He is the lead guitarist and singer.
Peter Frampton was huge in the 70s, it’s good listening to him again
There were ALOT of Stadium rock concerts in the 70s and they were always packed. That was when California was THE GOLDEN STATE.. it's been a TRASH heap for the last 30 years.
Frampton was one of the guitar greats.
J&A, you must listen to his "Do You Feel Like We Do" from “Frampton Comes Alive”. Best use of the 'talkbox' in both songs. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk_box "Show Me The Way" is also a great track from that album.
Absolutely….that song is a must. Good call surl.
Yes yes Do you feel like I domy favorite Frampton song
Peter was diagnosed with the same rare disease my husband has- Inclusion Body Myositis- and is really helping bring awareness to this debilitating disease. He’s given us great music from his original band called Humble Pie up to his solo work. God bless him.
@Nancy Smith I didn't know this! My sympathy to you and your husband. My father had this dreadful disease. All I can say is I wish you the best.........
Nancy I'm very sorry to hear this.ive never heard of this condition/ disease.what exactly is it.
@@happyfreeliferc My father had Inclusion Body Myositis. In the simplest of terms, it is a muscle wasting disease. My father was already a very slender man, he had no muscle to spare, but by the end, he couldn't even stand on his own. Couldn't lift a fork. He had no muscle strength left. It is an absolutely cruel and horrible disease and heartbreaking to watch. I lost him 4 years ago - he had a small stroke, and that finally did him in. We had him move in with us, but after 7 weeks his spirit and body had had enough and it was a blessing that he was finally called home. IBM can be a very slow disease. It broke my heart to hear Peter Frampton has it. 😔
@@CuzKatieSaysSo Katie my sincere condolences, I'm so very sorry 😑
@@happyfreeliferc Thank you, Robert. He is free now. It was one of those diseases you wouldn't wish on your worst enemy. He was a kind and empathetic man, and it was easy to lament, "Why him? What did he do to deserve this?" But, truth be told, this struck him much later in life. Some people are diagnosed in their 30's already. He died just a month after his 90th birthday, so I'm grateful the disease hit him as late as it did. But thank you, I sure do miss him.
"Frampton Comes Alive" was one of those "must have" albums of the day.
Still have mine! 😀
Frampton Comes Alive? Everybody in the world has Frampton Comes Alive. If you lived in the suburbs you were issued it. It came in the mail with samples of "Tide".
@@mercedogre LOL
Frampton IS the guitarist, my ex said "he's a virtuoso guitarist." I just saw him last week and he's better than ever!
Yes Frampton is a phenomenal guitarist
Humble pie was his group before his solo career
Frampton comes alive is one of the most popular live albums of all time
These studio versions don’t compare
He was in Humble Pie but it was Steve Marriot's band.
Peter Frampton:one of the greats. I like the live version myself. Takes me back to childhood.
One of the best concerts I ever went to. Pictures this: 1978 or 79, Portland, Oregon. While me and my husband were standing in line for tickets, a man in a dark corner outside the theater asked us if we wanted to buy any drugs. I was shocked. My husband told me just move along. Once we got inside the theater and in our seats the real fun started. People in the row ahead of ours were smoking hash. I smelled something funny but didn't know what it was. As a result, I got a contact high, didn't even know why I felt exceptionally...high! I was straight as an arrow! Had 3 small children at home. Never touched an illegal drug as a teenager or an adult. Frampton was great! His music made all the hubbub of life fall away for a few hours. I revisit that memory often.😌😁
I remember standing in line to buy tickets. Unfortunately the only way to buy a ticket these days is through a corporate middleman who gouges there pound a flesh in the process. Sorry if I sound bitter but I remember simpler times
Judy W : I always had pleasurable experiences smoking hash listening to music, never felt paranoid like i did with smoking pot.
@@cesarnarro6013 I've never smoked hash. Tried pot twice. Hated it.
Peter Frampton is DEFINITELY playing the electric guitar. He was one of the best guitarists of the 1970s. Peter Frampton is 71 years old. He has been fighting a tough battle with cancer.
You have to listen to the live version! "Frampton Comes Alive!" The WHOLE album!
A melodic gift unmatched in rock music.
Peter Frampton on the Frampton Comes Alive tour was my very first rock concert when I was 13. Great concert!
That's a pretty darn good first concert!
I’m so glad you played this version. I had never heard it either but I loved it so much I had to go back a listen a second time. So good!
Always have loved this song….always loved Peter too!!! Thx guys! Peace and love to y’all
Although I remember him as a girl's pin up idol in the 70s, among musicians he IS a guitarist. He was in Humble Pie and has played with David Bowie as well as 2 Beatles, Ringo Starr and he played on John Lennon's iconic final album Double Fantasy. He knocked us all out with his playing on Frampton Comes Alive but also because he used a Talkbox, an effect that lets you 'sing' through the guitar - we had never heard anything like that then! (kind of a vocoder for guitar). Jay, the guitar sound on this one is simply staying on the high end of the guitar which is played through a chorus (effects) pedal, and he sustains the notes simply by holding them (letting them ring out uninterrupted). You'll soon be doing it! Keep playing!
I’ve heard this song thousands of times but I’ve never heard this version, Live is the best!
Framptom Comes Alive is one of the best live albums ever.
When I saw Frampton Live a few years ago he told the crowd a story: He woke up with the song “I Want You To Show Me The Way” in his head one morning. He recorded it and then later went to watch the sunset, and felt that he WAS shown the way, spiritually. That’s when the song “Baby I Love Your Way” came to him on the same day. Both songs sort of referencing god.
Gotta throw my hat in the "Frampton Comes Alive" ring. An album that only comes along once in a generation.
Someone else you'd probably like from this time period is Jackson Browne - You Love the Thunder, Running on Empty, Somebody's Baby, Boulevard. He was a hippie guitar/piano player/songwriter. Mostly mellow, great voice, great lyrics.
the entire Running on Empty album is fantastic. My favorite is The Load-out.
I like his earlier albums: Saturate Before Using, For Everyman and Late for the Sky represents his best work, IMO.
Yes! Jackson Brown had a series of great albums. I'd go with "The Load Out/Stay" that closes "Running on Empty."
“Frampton Comes Alive” was rated as one of the best live albums ever.
The album Frampton comes alive was ubiquitous in 1976. Everyone in my neighborhood, in my high school, and all my friends had this album. In fact it is the fourth best selling live album in history right after Garth Brooks double live, Bruce Springsteen and the e street band live, and Eagles live
Ubiquitous is right. I can still remember walking across my college campus one afternoon and hearing Frampton Comes Alive blaring out of an open window in one of the residence halls. I heard that a lot that here.
Ubiquitous is right. I can still remember walking across my college campus one afternoon and hearing Frampton Comes Alive blaring out of an open window in one of the residence halls. That was repeated over and over again that here.
Frampton Comes Alive? Everybody in the world has Frampton Comes Alive. If you lived in the suburbs you were issued it. It came in the mail with samples of "Tide".
@@mercedogre yes it sure did seem that way. They even handed it out on the border as a welcome gift to United States
I've never heard this version. Without the audience, and his inspired performance on stage, its just not the same.
He wrote this song while vacationing in Nassau Bahamas and said he was literally describing what he was seeing. I saw him in 2019 he was still amazing, unfortunately it may be his last tour he is suffering from an autoimmune disease that affects his muscles. One of the all-time greats.
Frampton comes alive was one of the fastest and best selling albums of all time! Can’t be the way Peter sings and plays! Love it! Saw him last year and he was still awesome and smiling his great smile all the way! And he still sounds great actually, even better if that’s possible!❤️
You MUST checkout Peter Framptons music from Frampton Comes Alive. Probably one of the BEST Live recordings ever....I went to the show Frampton, Yes, & Gary Wright back in 1977 in Philadelphia....amazing show
I have to agree with others that the version of this on "Frampton Comes Alive" is awesome
As a teen, this is one of the albums I had displayed on the built-in shelves in my bedroom (although it was the Frampton Comes Alive album). I remember my dad commenting that seeing him on the album cover, freaked him out. I loved Peter Frampton and I thought he was "hot", LOL!
The generation before ours was so boxed-in.
Peter is a great guitarist and performer. Can't omit his earlier work with the incredible super group Humble Pie. Check out 'Natural Born Bugie" or "30 Days in the Hole' . Partnered with the incredible Steve Marriott the group was soulful and steaming hot. ( also check out the amazing "Black Coffee' from 1973 just after Pete had left the band, you'll never forget it ) .
"30 Days in the Hole" YES. Such a great song.
@@muffinamy83 Thx Amy.
I’m waiting for them to see him live playing “that mouth thingy… what the heck-is that-called?” and watch their faces … stay tuned.
Peter is simply fantastic ... I’ve seen him live and his guitar work , showmanship and command of the audience is up there with the best.
“Frampton Comes Alive” wasn’t just an album , it was a cultural phenomenon in its day.
'Frampton Comes Alive' is one of the BEST ALBUMS EVAR!!!! And Peter was one of the guitar gods in the 1970s. This song on the live recording from 'Frampton Comes Alive' is like watching Shakespeare the way it's meant to be played...stunning and revelatory!
One of the greatest guitar player of the 60's & 70's. Must watch & react to Frampton live. Unbelievable that he is not inducted in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. Hopefully that will change...😊👏Great reaction!👍
The live version of this is quite special also. I recommend you check it out, even if aside from your channel. 😉
The whole"Frampton Comes Alive" album is worth them checking out.
If you listen to "Do you feel like we do?" on Frampton Comes Alive, live concert, he uses a waa waa box with a mouth tube to control his guitar. It's the greatest live song ever from him in my opinion.
The Doobie Brothers and Peter Frampton did a remote collaboration during the time everyone was isolating during the pandemic. They played a cover of Eric Clapton's hit "Let It Rain" and it is excellent. You will really love the guitar parts. Keep in mind that each player in the video recorded their part at their own homes, then someone had to assemble all the separately recorded parts into a cohesive performance.
Yes! I've been waiting for you to discover him. You have to hear his guitar "talk" from the album Frampton Comes Alive. You'll like the entire album.
I remember when this came out it was a BIG hit. Peter Frampton, Bee Gees and Aerosmith did a movie together doing the Beatles music from Sargent Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band. Cheesy movie plot but great music and performances.
Frampton was my first rock concert when I was 13 and when that movie came out, I saw it 5 times in one day. Just kept sneaking back into the theater with my friends. Yes, we were a little obsessed!😁
Yes!! Peter Frampton!! You need to find his Midnight Special live performances! You won't be disappointed!Ah, he was my preteen crush - his posters were plastered all over my room! LOL!
I have seen Peter Frampton many times over the years including what was his last tour. He has been diagnosed with a degenerative neuromuscular disease that in time will stop his ability to play. He is still recording while he can. As for his last show I saw, in 2019 - The announcer stated "Ladies and Gentlemen- Mr. Peter Frampton " and the man played for 3 hours better than the Frampton comes Alive album more than 40 years ago. Speaking of which YOU REALLY NEED TO LISTEN TO THAT ALBUM IN IT'S ENTIRETY!!! As for that show hands down one of the best 3 shows I ever saw!
As a guitarist, Peter Frampton is a tone master. His solos are very well put together.
If you want to see Peter Frampton at his best, you have to see his live performances of 'Do you feel like we do' and 'I want you to show me the way. I think you would also enjoy an instrumental by Fleetwood Mac called 'Albatross'.
Yes live version of Oakland Coliseum in 1977.
yes, Peter Frampton plays the guitar on this. He is very underrated, quietly on of the best .
Yes, Peter is known for his guitar playing and especially the use of the talkbox. "Do You Feel Like We Do". Yes, there are effects on the guitar. As others have mentioned, the "Frampton Comes Alive" album is the one to give a listen.
Oh laws. Frampton must always be live. Always.
You guys DEFINITELY must check out “Frampton Comes Alive” -it was HUGE!! For good reason! “Do You Feel Like We Do?” - great on the live album!!
The live version from "Frampton Comes Alive" is just incredible.
Saw him live 2 years ago. He’s sick and old but HE’S STILL GOT IT.
I love Peter Frampton's guitar playing. He had his own style.
Try the live version, you will see a difference! He is a great guitarist ! great song thank you!!
Peter Frampton, one of the most underrated guitar players and singers ever. He’s such a great guitar player man.
This album "Frampton Comes Alive" came out when I was a senior--you could not go into ANY apartment complex on a Friday or Saturday evening without hearing someone playing this. Great Album
This is the better version!! Subtle in more intricate than the live version more soulful too!! I grew up listening to this version, years before the live one came out.
Jay, if you like the talk-box sound, listen to "Do You Feel Like We Do" from the "Frampton Comes Alive" album. Famous.
Frampton is an amazing melodic guitar player, His live album owned a summer here on planet earth. This version of the song is awesome, this is the 1st time i've heard it. He hired a keyboard player for the live album and they truly had a magical sound together. A must listen methinks.
Peter Frampton is the guitar player. There is a youtube video of him playing it live.
Got to see him again in his farewell tour. Magical. Crowd really into the concert knowing it may be his last. While My Guitar Gently Weeps was the final song as one by one the band members moved off stage to eventually leave Peter by himself. Tears everywhere.
If you want to see him play this live, check out Oakland Colosseum concert video, at a dark time in my life I would turn this on and it never ceased to cheer me up, he is a wonderful guitarist and has had a great career, unfortunately he now has a degenerative nerve disease that is causing his nerves and muscles to waste away and won't be able to play much longer but he has been philosophical about it and says that he will just go on to something else, he is raising awareness for this rare disease, inclusion body myositis (IBM) my youngest son has a childhood friend who has something similar that he developed in childhood and it is horrible, maybe Peter Frampton's biggest legacy will be awareness of these conditions, I wish him all the best...take care.
AS suggested below, the Frampton Comes Alive Album was huge in the 70's....I have or had the Frampton comes Alive album (vinyl) I say had because I have a meant condition album and I'm giving it to my nephew for Christmas along with some other meant condition albums. I'll miss them, but it's collecting dust (the covers)for decades.
Please react to Peter Frampton: -Show Me The Way -Do You Feel Like We Do -I'm in You -Thanks!!!
My favorite Frampton song is Do you feel like we do.
This is the original version. It is great. Everyone knows the version from frampton comes alive because it was a massive record that introduced Peter Frampton to the world. And they released the live version as single. But this version is the real version. They are both great.
I saw Peter Frampton live in the early 70's in Oakland CA on a Saturday afternoon at the Oakland Coliseum called,"A Day On The Green," There were other bands there but he headlined. He sang this song as well as others like ," Do you feel like I do?" Which he drew out people loved that!!.It went on all day and talk about a memorable day!! Well worth it! I was in my 20's at the time! Thank you for love him too (as well as his band) as we did!! 🎶🎼🎶🙋😘
When playing electric guitar, you achieve slightly different sounds making adjustments to tone controls or switching between using one, two, or both Pickups (mics behind the strings). But most often by using effects pedals (operated by foot) - you have surely seen guitarists stamp on a pedal before a solo?
OR, in the case of Frampton's Les Paul Custom, all three pickups.
The 'sustain' you are hearing on the electric guitar can be obtained 2 ways and often both ways. One is mild overdrive by turning up the gain on the preamp, which drives the power amplifier a little past its ability to reproduce causing a little 'crunch' (pleasant distortion) when the notes are played hard and makes softer notes noticeably louder. The second is called compression, which directly increases the volume of the softly played notes and decreases the hard played notes. Both have the effect of making a note keep its volume much longer. A guitar string's volume normally decays (drops off in volume) fairly quickly. You can pluck an electric guitar string hard with the volume off and you hear it at first, but rapidly gets quiet. But wait 10 seconds, turn on the amplifier and it's still ringing true to the note. It's a good deal of the electric guitar's charm. :)
