Would love to see more videos re: flights. What each flight's actual purpose is, how they do with various weights, etc. Would also love to see similar videos about shafts. Short/Tweenie/Long etc. How each flight interacts with all of it.
Incredible what tiny differences the human body can identify. Also, shows how consistent your throw speed must be. What a machine. Except mine. Mine must be made of rubber. 😂 Only returned to darts about two weeks ago, so I've been experimenting. Having done archery for the last five years, I've realised how much difference tiny changes can make. It's helped me a lot over the last two weeks.
Great video Matt. Always threw standards but struggling with grip & can't seem to propel the dart hard enough to counteract the drag. Now experimenting with smaller & smaller flights. I like the way they fly fast & flat when I get the throw right...but if I get it wrong they fly & land at all kinds of angles! Standards now seem huge & present a bigger obstruction to following darts. Interested to see further experiments on the effects of different setups 👍
Good stuff Matt. Would love to see a follow up about the way the darts fly with different flights (and stems). Barrel weight would be a factor too, I guess, a 18 gram dart with ultra slim flights would fly differently to a 24 gram dart with the same flights? Definitely up for stuff like this!
Yeah if this is the sort of content people enjoy I’ll defo do more of it. Sort of a sample this cause it takes a lot of work to get 6 minutes content doing this
You need to follow this up with a "stability" test. More surface area = more drag, but it's only part of the equation, since more speed = less control. It would be the most obvious test to do next, so you could marry the data to have a more complete picture of how aerodynamics affects your throw/aiming, etc
Enjoyed this, even if it does sort of confirm what the theory was. Would love a follow up where you can apply this knowledge. So if you feel your darts are too flat on entry would it be better to slow the time down etc.
A lot of work, great video! Do you have all your data in a spreadsheet so we can run some stats to see if the differences are “statistically significant”? I’m guessing it was a bit tricky to judge when the dart left your hand and when it hit the board as there’s only usually 24 or 36 frames per second when recording video?
Wasn’t too bad actually I put it into high resolution recorded in normal time then slowed it down into super slow mo got the release point and entry point then convert it back to normal speed to get the time. Sounds a long way around but once I got into the flow of it wasn’t too bad at all
Like many, I would like to see stability and arc of different flights. I am using kite flights now as it seems if I use larger flights I tend to have to throw it harder and that causes way more misguided or unstable darts for me than kite flights. I have not tried anything smaller lately but I might if my averages tend to keep going up with faster darts. I guess I should point out I am playing soft tip so the drag of larger flights is probably a bigger factor than steel tip which is why smaller flights feel better and easier to throw. I can not lob a dart with any sort of accuracy so the less arc the better. I would also recommend a chronograph as it would make determining speed easier. No more watching a ton of videos to determine speed. Could then be used to determine if stems/grippier dart changes speed.
Hi Matthew, I want to ask you a question: Every once in a while my darts tend to "fishtail" and land awkwardly on the board, facing sideways etc. Is this a problem related to the flights that I use (Standrand no. 6) or is it something else?
Matt, can you tell me why some pros shoot 66 going for bulleye first. The 14 or the 10 are bigger targets. I don't understand, seems like they decrease the odds of hitting the double.
Not sure if your still playing as your post was 2 years ago did you stick with kite I’m throwing 23g darts with standard flights thinking of trying kite just wondered how you got on over time
What about the difference in a molded flight like Cosmo fit flights or l style. The shape Cosmo is smaller than a standard and a super shape is different again. But how does the perfect right angle work
I throw 18 gram darts with slim flights. I've found much less bouncing (from hitting flights) and robin hooding with these. The darts are also on the long side but of course slim. They'd be fine if I'd just PRACTICE more! ;-)

No problems sure I can cover some of that soon 😁
@@Edgartvdarts Look forward to it!
did you ever do this? Because I want to know the same thing
@@Edgartvdarts
Great video. There’s so much more, weight of flights and shafts combined, length of shafts and weight. This could be endless.
These types of vids are really helpful cause there's a whole lot of flight shapes out there but not much on what they actually do to your darts
Lot of work there Matthew, good job.
straight to the point is very good with dart instruction and tips and worth a look. No affiliation but I dig the short videos.
Great video, really interesting to get to see numbers and compare directly
Really appreciate the time and effort it took to make this vid, well documented, looking forward to the follow up.
There are 3 follow up episodes already on the channel 😁
Thanks for putting in all that work Matthew!
No problems I love making videos
Great info Matt. I’ve changed to Slims because of your first video about flights and I’ve improved my avg to about 63/66 on a regular basis cheers
Loved this video! Great insight👍🎯 it would be great to see similar analysis with stem length, dart weight etc. Thanks Edgar

Top work Matt! Doing gods work with this video

Wow awesome video. Thanks for the time you took make that. Great info
Great video, always wondered just how much faster kites were, really enjoy the technical aspect of darts 👍🎯🇺🇸
Great video. Who better than a pro dart player with a consistent throw to get pretty accurate results. Great job and very helpful ✌️
Awesome video that matt this has absolutely helped me out this now I can focus better when I'm throwing
Good video mate. 👍😊
Thanks for a brilliantly informative video. I get the feeling a pear flight would fly about the same as a kite. 🎯👍

Thanks. That's a lot of work
Great vid you can do a lot with this with what I have seen in the comments Cheers Matthew.
Thanks for this 👍
Which flights are best to get the darts to land in the 20 rather than the 9 😉 Seriously though, great video. Looking forward to more in this series.
Looking ripped Matt👍
Over 1000 likes! Appreciate the effort! Next stem length and width, plastic Vs alu
Thanks. That was pretty helpful.
Great content Matt, do you think you could maybe do something similar with the pear shaped flights? I know they’re quite popular too 🙌
Yeah if this is the sort of content people enjoy I’ll defo do more of it. Sort of a sample this cause it takes a lot of work to get 6 minutes content doing this
@@Edgartvdarts of course mate, really appreciate the amount of effort that’s gone into it

Yeah sounds a good idea
Definitely would like to see a video on how certain flights would be with certain weight of dart stability wise
100% that is coming
Can u do a vid on the all in one flights where’s the stems an flights are a hole 1 piece an what you think of them

It can be the dart been the wrong weight to suit the flight or posture/release. Would be hard to say for sure without seeing to be honest
Happens to me only when i forget to tighten the shaft again
Thanks!

Man you have to check put vapor s flights, very small, want to know your feedback on those flights
Did you renovate the Dart room?
I've recently changed from a standard to a kite. Quite like them. Fly nicely.
Not sure if your still playing as your post was 2 years ago did you stick with kite I’m throwing 23g darts with standard flights thinking of trying kite just wondered how you got on over time

So Edgar, what do you suggest? A dart that get to the board faster or slower.
I prefer a fast travelling dart but will depend on your technical
what about the lenght of the shafts ?
is the fantasy football video coming today matt?
Hey matt would you be interested in selling one of ur mvg shirts let me knw and great video as usual
Good luck with that. I tried to get him to have His mate Aaron send me a signed set for cash and was ignored
@@jimmybutler6451 thats shitty he at least could of responded
Yeah that’s what I thought also.
How about a video about what in the heck the usages of that little “wrench” tool that comes with some sets of darts actually are?
Soon as I work it out I’ll let you know
Surely we need to compare accuracy between the flights?
great experiment! please upload the full slow motion footage 😈
I went from a shape to pear flight and from 24g to 20g. So far they are doing well.
Did the flight shape affect the angle of entry and lie of dart in the board?
Yes massive ! They will lay flatter the smaller they are
I wouldn't mind seeing a video on how different flights affect the trajectory of the dart
This will be coming 😁
I use a pearshape and can't throw with the standard flights anymore. They are so big, they block the triple
Hi, im from Pakistan and i want to compete in international tournaments, can you please tell me how i can start my career in darts?
I throw 18 gram darts with slim flights. I've found much less bouncing (from hitting flights) and robin hooding with these. The darts are also on the long side but of course slim. They'd be fine if I'd just PRACTICE more! ;-)
I prefer the slims but my husband prefers the standards
Well done Zac... I am assuming that's him on the piano to entertain you whilst you were throwing all those darts.
R.I.P Kyle Anderson. Such a shame. Far too young
am i the only 1 who gets wound up when people flap their arms when they talk
Brill video…. Not even watched it lmao
