I think what you want is a ring that doesn't tighten too much, so the flight can still pop off on impacts the wings can't flex out of the way, which they'll do if the material allows it and that's what's giving folding flights an advantage over molded unless they find a way to compensate. Then of course you can create a worst case by using bigger flights on shorter stems, so you might actually want to add a spin to help the flight evade on impact then as a last resort. Effects come with side effects, so in the end it's to decide what helps best with your throw and dimensions.
My back, due to injuries, is in too poor of shape to be picking up flights all the time. I have tried both punched and not punched. If I were to throw standard flights again, I would throw with punched flights.
I would never go back to not punching flights. Personally I use the Shell Lock Caps, but that purely has something to do with the fact that I use 75 micron flights and they go out of shape very quickly. But with 100 micron flights I would just use Titanium rings or the very cheap ones.
I think the other side of the argument is not to do with splaying the prongs, rather it’s that if the point hits the ring, the dart might not make it to the board. But certainly using rings massively reduces breakages.
Id say majority do and the main reason you never see them pop off is they have a brand new flight and stem every match, the older/ more used they are the more likely they will pop off
I would say the majority do. For the ones that don't (e.g. Humphries, Cross, van den Bergh), I don't know how they don't have more flights popping off. The stems they use must be very good quality.
Great video!
Massively in favour here.
All of our club sets are punched - eliminates any flights popping off.
Also the stems last much, much longer!
Totally agree with Matt, that's why I always use spinning stems, as it causes less "force"
i love the vibe you guys have going on. great duo
Thank you :)
Since I started punching, I'm not stopping.🤜🤜😂
😂
I just bought one and it really works!

I have a picker for that very reason, if i were playing out and about though i'd probably punch my flights.
I'm using them. Never going back!
Fair Enough :)

I use the punch system because I can't stand picking up flights off the floor, it screws with my game's flow. I rather get the occasional deflection.
Fair Point
Champagne ounch as well. I had both. Rings I get lots of Robinhoods and champagne I found the champagne caps wear out quick.
I swapped to all in ones because I was in double figures a fortnight with Robin Hoods
Please sort the audio out in these videos great content anyhow 👊🏽👍🏽
I Always use a punch and im happy my stems last longer and flights
what if i go double ringed? one under the flight and one through the punched hole? will the 2nd dart deflect to the ceiling with enough 'Force'?
😂😂😂
You missed a key argument for the flight ring... It drastically reduces robin hoods that ruin the shaft.
I think that can be argued both ways
@@missiondarts How can a tighter ring which limits the access to the shaft prongs increase the chance of splaying those prongs?
@@mclyker there full of shit don't wont to tell us equipment lasts longer like that

@@mikebennett109 Well my comment was about shaft damage from Robin Hoods.
They work, but my Mission hole punch has now fallen apart!😢😢
Send it back for a replacement !
Do most pro players use rings as i hardly ever see a flight come off?

@@matt_dobson0614 I think Humphries flights a 200 micron thick to
maybe 150, never seen 200
@@missiondarts pentathlon make 200 micron and I'm sure he uses them so there you go learnt something new today mission
3:36 xD hahahahah
I think this is an android vs iphone type of battle. I pro android and pro no punch.
Wow what a bad sound... Or is it my phone...
Come on mission, you could do a better audio than this. why do i hear everyone in different ears? come on.
Because Andy and Matt whilst making great content, havent got to grips with the tech yet..😂
@@missiondarts i mean, the editor could fix this in few clicks.
Nobody darters never told me about the punch flights because they don’t want to get better !!! 😒🙄🫣
