- Let's face it, making games is hard, but it's not impossible. In this video, I give you a run-down of how I released my game to Steam and the things I am changing when I relaunch it later this year!
This is how I released my indie game to Steam is less than 2 years. This is the second Unity Devlog on the channel, please like and subscribe to be notified when new content releases to the channel. We are really starting to build this channel as a game dev community, so join us!

Great video! 150 subscribers is a lot for only your second video, so please keep uploading. Also, I'm so happy you followed my advice on redesigning the wolf, it looks soooo much better now :)
Thank you so much for tuning in for a second time! Your feedback helped me a lot and I’ll be making continuous updates to the Wolf when appropriate. Thank you!!!
@@DanGameDev No problem! Good luck on the redevelopment journey, and I'll be sure to watch every video!
@@dddripz wow, honestly thank you so much - your support means A LOT to me!
Beautiful game, nice colors! Nice video! Game DEV is so hard, but you made a lot of solid points. I also sometimes do something that's too ambitious when I should make shorter games that I can build to completion than a lot of random projects (although I might learn something new from each), but I rarely complete something or feel it's at the quality to launch to the store.
I want to someday make a cool 3D game like you, but I'm mostly sticking to 2D to give myself some limits and not feel too overwhelmed.
Limits are the most important thing for reaching completion I think.
Like I got frustrated with the camera that I decided to just make a space-invaders like game where the camera doesn't need to move or games that can be played on a single screen lol
Because they are going to be the simplest to build for me to completion I think...
Took me forever to figure out what I wanted to build to completion too and I'm just getting back into game dev now (been off about a year and really rusty, never made it past like an intermediate level. But GPT4 got me back into it and made the process a bit easier overall)
Anyhow, I subbed to your channel because I got some inspiration, GG!
Your game looks beautiful so I have nothing to say, about it but maybe with some new marketing strategies you'll get a lot more sales. I can't imagine how hard it is for a game to sell on Steam though or general...
As you mentioned in your video it's difficult finding good tutorials. If you were to make some, I and many others would watch too. I always come across something that frustrates me in Unity lol
Like I watched some tutorials and they leave out several steps or use a different version or there's sometimes something that makes them impossible to follow and learn from for me.
Good luck with growing your channel and your game dev!
Thank you! I'd rather you release a game than release nothing, you can always work on it after release. I am planning to create a video on the steps you need to take to publish your game on Steam - this is SUPER simple but seems super confusing! I also plan on making coding tutorials too! Thanks again and welcome to my channel!
I love the new colour of the Wolf
Thank you so much!!
@@DanGameDevI seem to have made a mistake in filling in taxes on Steam to publish my game. What should I do? because it says there "you can't change anything until the tax process is complete"
@@Game_Studio-w9p have you submitted the form to them? I'm not a lawyer but depending on where you live it's a self-assessement form so you should be able to create another and reattach it
@@DanGameDev yes, I've sent it and they sent me an email saying "it looks like there's something wrong with your address whether it's the postal code or something else" and they asked me to reply to their email again by including an identity document containing the address, well maybe I have to re-register to publish my game back but that means I have to pay again :(
@@Game_Studio-w9p you won't have to pay again as you'll still have you're app ID
This is so inspiring. I hope your game dev journey it as good as mine is.
Thank you! Good luck to you!
Another great video!
Thank you so much for watching! It's great to have you on board the channel!!
@@DanGameDevDoes the tax form at Steamwork have to be filled in English? such as filling in the name of the province, street name?
@@AndreanJapardi I believe it can be done in any language as it is a W-8 form (assuming you are a non-USA citizen) - however it is essential you check this as I am not a lawyer and this is not financial advice
Looks exciting !! ❤
Thank you, welcome to the channel!

Just curious, how long does it normally take steam to approve a game?
I know they say leave at least 5 business days but does usually take longer?
For me it was approved within 48 hours. It was very quick and I had time to ensure any issues found were fixed. Welcome to the channel (please consider subscribing)!
Thanks for the tips!
No problem, it’s great to have you with us on the channel!
Really good devlog ;)
Thank you so much! Welcome to the channel :)
I want to upload my indie games in steam , its a one time fee of 100$ or i have to renewal my subscription every month ??
It’s a one time fee of $100. You pay this per game you want to release so it’s not a subscription fee. They will refund this after your game makes $1000 in revenue! Hope this helps!
@@DanGameDev thanks for the information
@@DanGameDevHey, can I ask you a favor? can you try my game? actually my game hasn't been released yet and will be released on July 29 2024 so you can add it to your Steam wishlist first so you don't miss the game's release 🙏🙏
@@Game_Studio15 what's it called?
good vid as mini devlog, but not really a "how I published my indie-game to steam"
keep going tho
Thanks for watching! This video is an intro to part 2 which will be a step by step guide to launching to Steam. Stay tuned! Thanks again for watching!
