Big fan of this!
Thank you!
Can you give me some guidance? I’m wanting to make a main menu and multiplayer lobby screen similar to Fortnite but don’t know where to start.
You didn't actually explain how to actually make a video game. You rolled through a topical to do list.
Hey, it's pretty difficult to explain how to make an entire video game step-by-step in 3.5 minutes. So this is more an overall guide. My channel covers many different aspects of the process as it would be impossible to do it all in that length of time.
Great vid! keep it up
Ive created 2 previous protoypes before pursuing the 3rd person action game im doing now!
Wow, that's great - congratulations! Proof of concept is certainly important!
@@DanGameDev of course
wtf are you yapping about? you spent nearly 6 minutes saying basically nothing... you're talking about success but have yet to create any of it yourself, because you know nothing about any of this shit. bozo.
whats the name of this game at 2:40?
Townscaper :)
Just wish I had more time but life
I'm a video editor from Brazil, I mainly watch youtube to learn something, but your title looked really curious to me because I aways wanted to try to develop my own game, so I keep a close eye on it. As I can see from your video, you had a bad time with marketing as you mentioned. Care to share more with us? What you would do different? What we can learn from it? What you would not do? In advance I would say, keep up the good work, cus...you reached Brazil with 830 subs. (including me now)
Hey, thank you so much for watching and supporting, it means a lot to me! I have recently released a full video on marketing and Wishlists so please go and have a watch!
peter, dont doubt, just believe, you can. dont copy your doubt to others. then they dont make their own games either. reliant on others. not good. be actually indie.
amazing!
Thank you so much!
Nice video. Marketing has been my problem for a long time. I hope you could elaborate more on marketing tips and tricks.
Thanks for watching. There is a whole video on marketing tips and tricks out now on the channel (it's the latest video)
but like... it IS hard and unsellable...
What is?
@4:07 - I feel like I must be misunderstanding something about the math here. 2 * 50 = 100, so you're saying that if a game in the genre you're considering has 2 or more reviews, it's an idea worth pursuing? Seems low.
Yes that math makes sense. It's not always going to be the case of course but I think that is what you can generally expect. I'd suggest looking at the minimum wage in your country and multiplying this by the hours spent on the project. This is going to be the biggest cost. 100 copies is great but if you don't make you're costs back you've made a loss :(
*Do not use an image generator, it screams low quality and 9/10 of your indie dev supporters won’t be very supportive of you using generative ai commercially
Hey, I understand your point. I’m simply saying if some devs are unable to afford to hire artists they should use tools available to them. After all, id rather people finished their games rather than not completing them. However I think the key is modifying them so not just copying and pasting the work of AI
That’s the thing though, it’s not he work of AI, it’s the work of other people, “stolen” by AI.
this is the best video i ever watch. Nice explanation.. 👌👌👌👌
Thank you so much, welcome to the channel! New video posted!
looksmaxx your game is real advice man. also funnmaxx it before release
💯 make it fun! Thanks for watching
Nice video! Well done on your work!
What tips do you have for getting wishlists on Steam?

Nice, deserves more views
Thank you so much! Welcome to the channel :)
Have you achieved success?
I did not market Finding Ice very well so didn't get many sales. However, I've spent nearly 2 years learning how to do this so feel ready to share what I've found and launch my next game - thanks for watching!
@@DanGameDevBTW, I was looking for the name of your game in the notes portion of the video. You should add a link or the name of your game there too.
@@GiantsOnTheHorizon it's Finding Ice. I don't add the link as I believe I can create something so much better now :) Thanks for watching!
@@DanGameDev It’s tough having high standards :) Finding Ice looked nice. I still plan to check it out when I get some free time.
U got a sub bru
Thank you!

So in touch, excellent video Dan, Subbed :)
Thank you so much - welcome to the channel :)
Another great video! Any tips on marketing for a beginner indie game designer?
Thanks for watching! Will be releasing a series on marketing for Steam specifically soon and will cover capsule art, trailers and screenshots as well as how to get Wishlists :)
Nice video! I’m surprised you don’t have more subs.
Thank you
You got my attention. Liked the video, checked the channel's videos , and subscribed. I'll gladly follow your videos from now on ;)
Thank you so much, welcome to the channel!
I love this video. I've just watched a minute, but I'm still seeing the problems I'm facing while trying to start game dev. I'm someone who's always had a passion for game development, but have no background in coding, game development or even doing pixel art. I'm getting a lot of insight from this video. Is there any tips you'd give to someone who wants to make a 2d game in unity?
Thank you so much for watching! I'm all about helping new devs get started and demystifying the process. In terms of 2D games, definitely look at the Thomas Brush videos on creating great art. Also, be sure to utilise Adobe Colour (it's free!) as you can upload a reference photo and get beautiful colour palettes in return!
@@DanGameDev thank you for your tips! I'll definitely be commenting a lot for more insight in the new future, and I wish you good luck on your youtube journey as well!
@@kamathplays9625 Thank you!
What keeps you motivated when creating video games?
I have some of my best ideas when walking!
The idea that maybe ill find people that will relate to the struggles ive been through and know that they arent alone
Hm. The thirst for learning more and one day be able to create "everything" i want (end goal)
@@a6gitti love that!
@user-zk1cu3ly9p 💯
You desrve more than 400 views, bro... Amazing Video ! 👌👌💻💻
Thank you so much, that's very kind of you!
The video is only showing in a max of 360p
Hey, thanks. I think it’s because I’ve only just uploaded it so it’s still generating the HD.
1080p now working :)
Got to start small yo
Look at games that were developed by a huge team and do better as a solo dev
What if I just want to make something fun rather than innovative?
Great question. Try and make the game look as good as possible, make it eye catching. Even if it’s not innovative it has a good chance of selling then :)
@@DanGameDev Thank you Dan.
Fun is everything. Look up Gabe Newells definition of 'fun' in games for the best crystallisation of that feel and goal I've ever heard.
GD gang is here 😎
well hello
Yep
geometry dash
Yes we are indeed here
1:43 - I think it's Guh Dough, not Go Dot. Great vid!
Great video! I have dabbled in Unity and GDevelop before, both are awesome depending on your goals. A really cool thing with GDevelop is they're now supporting 3D games natively, so it's not limited to 2d games anymore.
Yes I saw that, not sure Gdevelops 3D capabilities match Unity yet, but it’s moving in the right direction. Thanks for watching!
Hi! Thanks for another great video- any tips on maximising profits through Steam?
UA-cam ads, IG promotions etc use them all to maximise outreach - future video is coming thanks for watching!
Brilliant,@@DanGameDev looking forward to it!
DON'T MAXIMISE PROFIT, maximise game quality.
@@FriskGamer1 Yes that is true. You need a high quality product before you launch otherwise no one will buy it. But then again, an essential part of any business is profit-making.
@@DanGameDev Oh it's a business, i forgot not everyone made games just for fun like i do.
How would you approach developing a game? Let us know below!
First one here!
Great ti see you back on the channel! Thank you for watching!
I would argue that you cannot make a good game with no experience. Each time you practice or fail you become a better developer by learning what you should and shouldn't do.
This is a great video but I would not use unity at the moment
Wish i could help you on you project even though i dont have coding experience? Do you have discord? We wanna share our suggestion with you 😊👍
I appreciate your efforts but according to your Idea If you are not going into the Bit bloomie or Kinda flashy graphic... I mean to say if you want your game to look bit realistic then go with UE5 because now Unity has changed many of their T&C so please be careful about it.... I am saying this because I had worked in Unity for almost 2 years but at the end I would say that UE5 or even UE4 is way more easier than Unity and also provide the top of notch things other than that its totally up to you....
Hi, thank you for your comment. I can use Unreal but there are many things I prefer about Unity despite all the changes. I think it just feels easier to work with and less demanding. Please consider subscribing to the channel!
Something here made me confused, maybe you can explain further and guide me. Or perhaps my thoughts could guide you to a better approach. You said in the game you will be transforming nightmares into "dreams". As i see it, "nightmares" is like a a sub category of "dreams". So a nightmare actually already is a "dream". A nightmare is a description of what the "theme" of the dream is. So for me it doesn't resonate as good as it could when saying that the goal is to transform nightmares to dreams. If i have to guess, you want to turn the nightmares into less scary dreams. I think you just need to mention what "type" of dreams they turn into if they are not "nightmares" anymore. :) I hope this helped somehow. :)
The idea sounds so vague still that it feels like it was written by AI. But I think the idea will become more refined and clearer along the way, as well as how it's presented
Thank you for the feedback - update coming soon!
