How did you manage to get that black piece of thin plastic that goes over the power terminals back on? The adhesive on mine is so old, that it wont go back on and stay in place, wo I just put gorilla tape on the back of it to hold it down
I'm considering the screen mod, not because of the battery life but because the display quality is really not good on the Game Gear. One part of me wants to do it because I want a nicer display and the other part says I should leave it as it is because if I change it then it's no longer original and in keeping with how the game gear really was to play.
@@DavePoo2The screen had gone in mine so no choice but if you ever do the screen mod RetroSix have some great mods for the game gear and really easy to fit, I'm thinking of doing another one using all their kit.
The drives required to open the GG itself are shown in the video. As for recapping in general, you should have the following (or something like it, I am not recommending these exact products in particular). www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B005PM975C - ESD Grounding Mat www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07G9T1THB - DeSolder pump and solder wick www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07RD9GG52 - Solder www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B077B9Q6SJ - Soldering iron www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B071W6GMZV - Brushes for cleaning www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0DGY2BDHY - IPA for cleaning www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01ELUI19Q - Flux www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0052LHGBI - Safety glasses (solder can spit, SMD caps can explode when heated) www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0BW92RMZ7 - Side cutters for cutting component legs You should also get a fan or fume extractor for extracting the flux fumes when soldering. If you are dong "a lot" of through hole part removal then it's probably worth investing in a de-soldering station instead of using the manual pump/sucker.
nice man. can you fix mine? i´ll send it to you? ;o greets from germany;) matt (mine won´t switch on at all, even with new batteries. but looks in great shape otherwise)

I don't remember exactly, but I think it was still very sticky and it just stuck back down without any effort. Looks like I just got lucky there.
hi, well mine doesn't have even the red light blinking...
If the caps get really bad, it might not power up at all.
I've done all the cap's on mine then done the screen mod, takes it to another level well worth it, got mine from Ali express. Also saves on battery.

@@sherlock2295 Ah, an easy decision for you. Thanks for the tip, I'll take a look.
What equipment do we need to do this ourselves? I'd be very grateful if you could list the things you've used as I want to get into this myself.

Sorry, I can't fix it for you. But it should be repairable if you can find someone local who can do it.
