    As a flight paramedic I’m all about safety, but not one to carry it on my person. I do carry a trauma kit and full intubation kit in my person vehicle. Always good idea to have life saving equipment near by. Thanks Alec for helping make people aware of personal safety.

    That ankle kit is a brilliant idea, and those tourniquets are battle tested, essential bits of kit.

    Awesome product for safety. Even if one doesn't wear it on the ankle it can be stored close by or attached to your belt or a backpack while camping or hiking.

      Lol yeah, which is why I carry two TQs; one in my ankle kit and one in my jeans back pocket next to a folded triangular bandage in the same pocket. The ankle kit is more for treating someone else.

    I use an old (not too old) tunic from structural fire fighting kit when doing risky workshop stuff, it’s warm, but high collar, fireproof and will protect against most sharp objects enough.
    Trauma kit stored at floor level too just in case!

    A tourniquet is something you should definitely carry on you

    Hi Alecsteele co,
    with this message I challenge you to make a falconryknife. Its a special huntingknife. When an eagle or a hawk or falcon catches prey ,the falconer kills the prey with this knife. But because the bird is sitting on the rabbit or pheasant, a long blade could hurt the birds toes. Thats why only the first 2,5 cm of the knife are sharp. After this 2,5 cm there is a little score. The rest of the blade is dull. If you decide to accept this challenge ,i can send you some patterns and more explications. I am soon getting my first hawk. If you wouldnt want to keep it , i would buy it.(Sorry for my bad english i'm german) best wishes from germany
    Jonas

    I would recommend upgrading to CAT6 or CAT7 tourniquets. They're far more effective and proven than ANY other brand or type of tourniquet on the market. As an emergency responder, I keep 2 in my vehicle trauma kit along with another 2 in the garage/shop kit. They are spendy, but they are absolutely worth it.

      CAT and SOFTT-W are both TCCC endorsed, I prefer the latter for an actual 2" restricting band.

    • @Armageddon1990
      @Armageddon1990 4 роки тому

      @@ThatBassistK The downside of the SOFFT-Wide is that it is proven to be only 50-55% effective, vs. the CAT series which is >80% effective.

    Good video. Safety is always important. After working for over 12 years for my boss, he still hasn’t got a full medical kit, and this is in Tree surgery.

    • @SEFullmetalJake

      Alec Steele Yup, it’s a bit backwards considering he’s fallen into a stump grinder before and cut the Femoral artery in his leg. He managed to survive by applying pressure to the wound until an ambulance arrived, a Tourniquet would have been a big help.

    This should be pretty obvious but in case anyone is wondering - DO NOT USE A TOURNIQUET IF YOU HAVEN'T BEEN FORMALLY TRAINED ON USING ONE.

      Why wouldn't it be? Will all the active shootings in the US and abroad even, it's always worthwhile to have a good trauma kit! Hell, even just for like serious axe or knife wounds this kit is still very useful :)
