This was a cool video and Sam if an awesome teacher! However, I don't understand why a beginner's knife kit isn't being demonstrated with the most bare-bones tooling possible. I would love to see this exact video after you give Sam a $100 safety budget at a hazard fraught tool store of some kind PLUS the cost of some combination of hardware store torches that may or may not rhyme with cernzonatic. Love all the videos, thank you for sharing them!
I have a huge request for a video, when Alec was in the shop recently we had an insanely quick demo of how you prepare the hammer blanks and basically ruff out the hammer in 1 heat and finish it off in heat 2. Could you show us that again please but with a bit more explanation, different perspectives with the camera and maybe a voice over just to say exactly what you're doing and what you are aiming to achieve. I haven't been able to stop thinking about it and I don't think that the footage/editing in the video did what you achieved justice. That was truelly mind blowing 😊👍👍👍
This is great!! When is the sheep's foot video coming? That's the one I have, lol. The sheep's foot handle build is with scales and pins so it's different enough...
I like Sam! He seems to have a decent amount of brain cells. A very analytic guy that really thinks about what he is doing and likes to improve his skills and learn.
@@GreeNova Maybe its his evil plan. He know how loved Will is by fans, and he wants the same. OOOR its Alecs evil plan to use a will seem-alike to make people stay at Alecs channel and not go to Wills?! wow, conspiracy alert. why do i hear x-files music playing? duudooduudoodeedo
Very well put together video very informative and you have a great camera personality. You would make an excellent teacher at the art of knife making. I wish I had the setup for making a knife. I've collected lots of knives over the years and always wanted to make one.
Never heard of forming the handle to the tang before. Neat idea. Nice looking blade the ironwood and satin finish look good. I think I like brass or nickel silver better than g10 though. Beautiful knife.
can I ask a question???? if you did want to put a small pin to mechanically secure handle to tang, at which point during the process would you drill that pin? thanks so much! hopefully my knife will be done soon!
Interesting and informative. Gotta give props just for working with desert ironwood, which in itself can be a bitch. You're right though, the end result is very good looking. Dunno about the hidden tang though, I've never had confidence on that style of knife. Good looking finished product though , and I love your knife shop! Thx for the video!
Great video although it would have been helpful to get a few more seconds of footage in a few places. A good example would be when you did the extra grinding on the tang to help the appoxy to holp on to the blade. You went off to the grinding room and the next clip was as you were the last bit of pushing the tang into the handle. A couple of seconds just to show a beginner what you did to the tang. Other then that, you are a natural in front of the camera and the video was great. 👍👍👍👍
New item idea, what if you did a step up from the hammers and added in semi customizable knives. 1 style of knife, customizable handle, possibly a little custom engraving. It would be manufacturable, a little more affordable then a fully custom knife but still unique.
That's not a silly question at all! There was definitely a learning curve when I bought a 2x72 grinder. Different strokes for different folks, but I will slow down the speed when I start on the 120 grit belts, and will progressively get slower as I move up the grits.
Ya for a beginner they won't have a 2"x72" this video need to be shown with basic tools like a beginner would have just like Will showed with the every first Build-a-knife-box
It's way too big of a knife. No "Hunter" would ever use this. It's basically a build your own Bowie Chopper and it would FAIL BADLY at that. The average person does own a drill press or a 2 x 72 belt grinder. It's not even full tang. Come on...you can make better products to sell to the everyday person
They explained all this when will left, he was only due to work there for a period of time and then move on to do his own thing, he has set up his own channel now and is doing great with it
I can't wait to see some more content from you Sam! I love the way you broke down this knife build project 10/10. keep the videos coming.

What a nice guy!
A good teacher too.
Sam you rock brother. Great addition to the Steele brand.

Best build-a-knife explanation yet. Grinding the blade is surprisingly easy to mess up :D
Nicely done, Sam! I look forward to more content!

This guy rules. Looking forward to more content!

What I like best about this video is that it doesn't make it look easy. Liked.
Sam, you're a natural in front of the camera. Nice knife, beautiful handle.
Desert ironwood is very resinous and can cause allergic reactions so be very careful when working with it. Wear your PPE! I learned this the hard way.
woah his posture and body language reminds me so much of Will. look at about min 13:50
Glad I am not the only one who sees this. Some of his actual language and speaking cadence remind me of Will also.
@@GreeNova True!

I love that sam is the Willie Nelson version of Will.
Also use fresh abrasives with the ironwood, otherwise it can burn pretty easily while grinding.

Great video! Can't wait for the next one!
This was fantastic. Your explanations were great.
Your grinding technique had me on edge a little bit. That’s a great way to get your shirt caught in an abrasive belt.
Sam, you do a great job. Please do more. Thanks for sharing your time and talent! KANSAS
Great video. Do all the BAKB kits.
I am thinking of getting a sheep's foot kit. I'm still on the edge because I would be doing a lot of that by hand and would be a lot of work.
Never heard of forming the handle to the tang before. Neat idea. Nice looking blade the ironwood and satin finish look good. I think I like brass or nickel silver better than g10 though. Beautiful knife.
My buddy just bought your anvil. We both are here in Kalispell MT!!!
That's a +1 from buddy.
Looking forward to more of your awesome content!
Aaaaah, Black Dragon Forge...... The man, the myth and the legend, Neels vd Berg himself. I'm lucky enough to own some of he's blades.....
Really great video! I like your style.
Great video, Sam looks like an awesome chilled out guy. Can we maybe have a video on how go make a knife like this without all the expensive gear?
can I ask a question???? if you did want to put a small pin to mechanically secure handle to tang, at which point during the process would you drill that pin? thanks so much! hopefully my knife will be done soon!
Nice kit. Keep up the good work
nice tip about free hand grinding, that is very difficult for me, i use a jig.
Sic looking knife mate, never seen iron wood before.
Great video, Sam!
Alec better watch out, you might be my new favorite lol!
Hope to see more of you Sam.
I haven’t been here for some months. Is Alec still in the UK? Honest question. First time I’ve seen this guy.
Yeah he's still in the uk, he was back in the USA for a short time but is back in the UK now
When is the sheeps foot video coming?
Nice work.
Cool kit how much is it
??

How much for the finished knife. I'd like to add it to my collection.

here is a silly question. What speeds do you run the different belts at?

I like this guy 😎👍
Great video! :D. I wonder, is he Will's brother/relative? He looks, moves, talks etc, just like Will does ^^
That handle turned out looking wonderful, beautiful piece of wood.
Ya for a beginner they won't have a 2"x72" this video need to be shown with basic tools like a beginner would have just like Will showed with the every first Build-a-knife-box
Sam is a welcome addition to this channel. Cool vibes! 😎
Great video, but I wish you used more basic tooling as a more realistic representation for those who would try this at home
If you don't have a drill press at home at least go spend the $30-40 on a drill guide for your hand drill.
The handle is brilliant but spoiled by an ordinary looking blade.
Why would anyone want to build a knife that's not full tang
un affutage avec un grand angle comme tu le fais, c est degueulasse. reste a 20 voire 25° pour du bushcraft. La tu es a 40, c est pourri

Rather see Will Stelter! Or an explanation why he left?
he only signed up to work with Alec for a certain period of time and now has his own youtube channel/business
They explained all this when will left, he was only due to work there for a period of time and then move on to do his own thing, he has set up his own channel now and is doing great with it
infomercial...
Has no guard...
Yeah, nobody who owns a 72 inch belt grinder is making knives from a Build-a-Knife box.
Not my favourite video
