These graphics are so very helpful!!! Thank you so much, Melissa! Is it beneficial to use different peptides in the same routine? e.g. the ordinary's argirelen+Matixl with copper peptides. I have bought now quite a few products from the ordinary ( Niacinamide, Vit C, Argireline, Matryxl, etc) but I have not found yet a good routine to combine them in the best way to not overpower my skin but get the most benefits out of them.
Since they all perform a similar job, no, I suggest alternating. But often, it gets shown that way; the more peptides you layer, the more the plumming effects happen and the less they penetrate so it would be a good idea for a short-term effect. But for long-lasting results, for sure not.

Hey! :) Glad to hear that you can fall asleep with my videos😉🥰 Well, a brightening serum and/or exfoliant or Retinol should help to lighten them. As for the darkness around your mouth, is it caused due to your dryness? So recently I bought a 100 plant-derived squalane & a VitC suspension 25%+BA instead. Is it ok to use these 2 together? If so, which one should I apply first and after? Hi! Thanks for the video. Can I use caffeine serum and after Super Facialist Vitamin C+ Brighten eye cream? Or have to use the ordinary alpha arbutin between them? I have dark circles under eyes. Thanks x
Hey! :) I recommend layering your products from the thinnest to the thickest texture. So, if you use an Alpha Arbutin serum as well, layer like this: - Cleanser - Caffeine Solution - Alpha Arbutin - Eye Cream - Moisturizer
Hi, Melissa! Thank you for all of your informative videos! You are hands down the most helpful content creator on the platform. Whenever you have time, I had a question about mixing a vitamin c derivative and benzoyl peroxide. I use benzoyl peroxide in a gel form as a spot treatment in the AM because I use tretinioin at night. I have 2 sunscreens that contain a vitamin c derivative and I'm concerned about using them with my benzoyl peroxide leave-on in the morning. Is it a bad idea to layer them? I'm not using the sunscreen bevause of the vitamin c anyway, so im okay if all the benzoyl peroxide does is just make the vitamin c ineffective. thank you in advance! I'm sorry if you answered this in the video already, I was driving while I was listening 😬
Hello Brooke 🙂 I think it works best when removing the Benzoyl Peroxide. The way I did it was by applying the cream (for you, the gel), then leaving it on for 10 minutes or so, removing (washing it off afterward), and then using my other products and/or sunscreen. I am unsure about interacting; that is very confusing; technically, it should not be an issue, especially not if the product has already been absorbed, which happens within seconds. But it just layers much better that way. That is also how I recommend it.
Hi Melissa, is this regime below correct? Night time: 1) Squalane cleanser>Glycolic toner>Alpha Arbutin Ha 2%> Naicinamide>Rosehip oil 2) Squalane cleanser>Alpha Arbutin ha 2%> Buffet Copper>Moisturiser Morning: 3) Squalane cleanser>Alpha Arbutin ha 2%>Vitamin C 23% suspension>Moisturiser>Sunscreen Please advise.. Thank you.
Hey! :) Yes, your AM and PM routines look great! :) How often you can use Glycolic Acid during the week depends on your skin's needs. I recommend starting with 2-3 times per week and adjust the frequency over time! :)
Hello 😃 According to my comments, it leads to dark patches on the skin, especially when living in hot and humid climates. And when having a look at the research, Vitamin C is always combined with other Antioxidants to give that "boost". So no, I think it's best to use it in the evening before going to bed. However, it's not wrong-just something to keep in mind.
hey melissa! i just purchased the ordinary ascorbyl glucoside 12% serum can i use this in my night routine with the alpha arbutin 2% ? i love your videos btw so informative and you get straight to the point! please answer my question😋
I just purchased the ordinary retinal 0.5% and the vitamin c suspension 23% and the buffet. How should I use these? Can I use the buffet with retinol at night and the buffet with vit c in am? How would you recommend me do my morning and night routine? Thanks for any help you can provide!! Love your videos!
You can use Buffet before Retinol. But you cannot use Buffet with pure Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid) So there is only one option. AM: Cleanser Buffet (SPF if exposed to the sun) PM1: Cleanser Buffet Retinol PM2: Cleanser Vitamin C 23% Suspension
Hey Melissa ! I use Alpha Arbutin, retinol and caffeine solution at night and then put a moisturizer. And in the morning I wash my face and use the 23% vitamin C suspension and then the neutrogena 55 broad spectrum sunscreen. I wanted to know if this is okay or not and how long should I wait before each serum/sunscreen. Btw I use the cerave hydrating cleanser and the daily moisturizing lotion. Please reply :) @MelissaVanDijik
Hey :) This sounds good! :) It's important that you choose products that can help you to improve your skin concerns! However, your PM and PM routine look great! :)
Do not use too much of each product...about one drop of the caffeine solution for both eyes, and about 2-3 drop (you can also add 1-2 drops more) of you face serums and a pea-size amount of your moisturiser and about half a teaspoon of your sunscreen. Make sure that the products can absorb into the skin. You can wait 30seconds to 1 minute in between each product :)
Hello Melissa, can i use my hydrating toner which has niacinamide (not sure how much niacinamide this toner has but its in the ingredients list) together with my 30% vitamin C suspension thanks
Hm, was someone talking about this on any social media, since I got this question so often today 🤔 Is it from the Inkey list? If so it already includes Vitamin C, so I am not sure if there is still a need to use more. But I am not sure about this.
Here is what The Ordinary says about this: "Unfortunately, none of the Ordinary products can be considered medical treatments for melasma, you may wish to discuss suitable treatments for persistent signs of melasma with your physician or dermatologist"
Hi Melissa, when you mentioned the example routine of vit C under the eyes( 11:00), do you also mean that we can put the arbutin 2% and vit C on our under eye area to tackle the dar circle problem? Can i replace the vit C 30% in silicone with the Vit C 25% with HA? I have been using the caffeine alone for ages and i havent seen any improvement ...🥲
Based on my experience, Ascorbic Acid products often lead to stinging and burning on the eye contour and just underneath the eyes. So I wouldn't recommend using them there! Also, Alpha Arbutin should not be used close to the eyes, but I am not sure why; I think the reason is that it may irritate the eyes when it gets into them. So an option would be using a specific eye serum or cream designed for that area, such as NIOD Fractionated Eye Contour Concentrate Serum or Timeless Dark Circle Eye cream. But I am not sure how effective they are. Generally, if your dark circles are caused by genetics, you cannot do much with topical products. And if a lack of sleep causes them, then you know what to do 🤪
I'm sorry I'm still little confused. I have 2 questions: 1. How many times a week, can we use the ordinary AHA and BHA solution? 2. If, for example, I exfoliated my skin tonight with AHA and BHA solution, I should avoid putting Vitamin C Suspension 30% ; BUT I can use tomorrow morning and night. Did I get it right??
You can use the Peeling Solution 1-2 times per week or even less often. Yes, correct. However, the Vitamin C Suspension should be used ideally in the PM. See here: How To Use The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution | Full & In-Depth Demonstration: ua-cam.com/video/wSY0pYcy8KY/v-deo.html How to Use The Ordinary Vitamin C Suspension 30% in Silicone in a Skincare Routine: ua-cam.com/video/Fa8Hrd8X4r8/v-deo.html
Hi, can you combine one or more vitamin C serums together? I use Ascorbic Acid 8% + Alpha Arbutin 2% on my knees and elbows and then let it dry for 3-5 minutes. Then I combine a few drops of Ordinary Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate Solution 20% with my cerave moisturizer and use it all over my legs and hands .

Hi, I had been diagnosed with Rosacea PP (subtype 2) and am since searching for the right products and product combination. I currently am having niacinamide serum, Vitamin C from The ordinary, and azelaic acid + Soolantra (for night use, prescribed for the problem). I am unfortunately dealing with PIE marks from the rosacea.. In the morning i like to used azelaic acid, but am not sure if i could combine this with the vitamin C. will this make the vitamin C inactive again or can vitamin C better used only on its own as active ? I am afterwards using ceraving moisturizer for dry skin.
Well, I cannot answer this question since I don't know it. In this case, you need to ask a specialist or use them at alternate times to be sure and avoid any cross-reactivity. The best option would be to use one in the morning and the other in the evening :) Or use them at alternate times. Side note: Paula's Choice recommends using Azelaic Acid Booster + Vitamin C Booster serum in the same routine or even mix it. But I am really not sure about this. I assume that it depends on the formulation and since you are using the Ordinary Azelaic Acid and Vitamin C it may be best to stick to their recommendation :)
Hi there Melissa! Will you please let me know if it’s okay to use Ordinary Alpha Arbutin with Ordinary Vit C HA Spheres instead of Vitamin C with Silicon in the evening? Thank you in advance!❤️
Hi Melissa! I have acne-prone skin and lots of post-acne blemishes. I wanted to use vitamin C to treat my blemishes but I wanted to continue using niacinamide to prevent acne from appearing and to control excessive oiliness. Can I use both in different parts of the day? For example, vitamin C in the morning and niacinamide at night?

hey beautiful melissa! I have a question about my solution😊 artubin 2% and then euk-134 in the morning. resveratrol 3% with vitamin C suspension 23%+HA 2% in the evening. What about it? …tbh my English is poor! thanks for your help!!!
Hi Melissa! I have a question. I use a very light water based moisturizer, and I recently bought some serums to incorporate into my routine (hialuronic acid, glycolic acid, matrixyl and niacinamide). Should I use the serum before or after the moisturizer?
You have to use those serums before your moisturizer. The Ordinary has different formulations and based on that, and you have to layer them. You can find the layering in this video: The Ordinary For Beginners: ua-cam.com/video/diaLVk_EsI4/v-deo.html Also, make sure to look out for the conflicts :)
Do you have a lot of sun exposure? When reapplying your sunscreen, just wash your face (take the sunscreen off), pat the skin dry and then reapply your sunscreen.
Technically yes; practically, it may be too much for your skin to handle and leads to irritation over the long run. So my suggestion would be to use them on different nights.
So I got the 30% Vitamin C suspension in silicone, I didn't use it yet because I don't know if it's too strong for me since I've never used Vitamin C. In the evening, should I put on my moisturizer before or after the suspension? And can I put as the last step a mix with vegetable oil (jojoba) and an essential oil (lavender or tea tree)? - Second question : isn't rosehip oil considered a form of retinol? Can i use it in the evening (instead of the mix that I talked about, alternating between the two but this one is without essential oils) and vitamin C in the morning? Thank you, I really need help.
Hey! Use your moisturiser at first and then layer the Vitamin C Suspension afterwards. So you would layer it like this: Oil (if you want to include one), moisturiser and then Vitamin C Suspension. Or since you are new to it, you could dilute a bit of the Vitamin C Suspension with your moisturiser, this way it won't be as strong anymore. So: Oil and then mix the Vitamin C Suspension with your moisturiser and layer on top of the oil. I wouldn't recommend mixing the Vitamin C Suspension with an oil. Yes, Rosehip Seed Oil is rich in Vitamin A, however its in a natural form, therefore you could use your Rosehip Seed Oil, Moisturiser and Vitamin C Suspension in one routine. You do not really need to alternate between them. Also, it is recommended to use the Vitamin C Suspension in the PM since it also includes 30% of Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C).
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet Thank you so much for your answer! 😊 I wanted to buy the serum for the morning in a MakeUp store but they gave me this one instead. Can the oil have a tiny bit of essential oil mixed in it, like I mentioned, with lavender or tea tree?
I think that the combination is very strong. And therefore, I recommend not using the 30% Vitamin C with Lactic Acid or Salicylic Acid. Instead, use Hyaluronic Acid before Vitamin C 30. And you can use Hyaluronic Acid after Lactic Acid or Salicylic Acid. I also recommend watching the following video: The Ordinary Layering: ua-cam.com/video/gMrV5WD8KkA/v-deo.html
Hey, thank you for this information. But I just want to ask you something. Should I use vitamin c at night? And can I use it with mandelic acid in my night routine? Or a different one: should i use it in the morning?
Hello Melissa, I am 20+ and I recenty started using the ordinary ascorbic acid alpha arbutin with retinol 1%. but I have not felt any irritation. Should I stop? or continue?
Can i mix the ordinary vitamin C suspension and other brands niacinamide togethwr ??? Like 5% niacinamide with the ordinary Vitamin C suspension?? And how to layer them Which one goes 1st Please answer
Well, that's a controversial topic. The Ordinary mentions specifically not using them in the same routine. However, other brands do not like to talk about this combination at all and Paula's Choice says it doesn't matter, like you can use them together. So, it's not clear to me what's really happening if you would use them in the same routine or even mix them. Do you use a Niacinamide serum? In that case, you would use your serum before applying the Vitamin C Suspension.
Hey, thanks for the video! Is it ok for morning to use, gentle cleanser (if im not allowed to use CERAVE SA with VIT C), then VIT C, TEA TREE OIL, ROSEHIP OIL, SUNSCREEN and then in the evening, CERAVE SA CLEANSER, TEA TREE OIL, NIACINAMIDE, AZELAIC ACID, ROSEHIP OIL, MOISTURISER…. all in that order? is it ok to use azealic acid with vit c also in the morning or should i just keep that in my evening routine? also unsure where the tea tree oil should go in the routine but its something i use daily with no irritation just unsure in which order. Sometimes i wonder whether i am trying to use too many different things? at the moment i use niacinamide twice a day but im not using vitamin c or azelaic acid yet and want to introduce them. thank you hopefully this isn’t too confusing!!

You can use the SA cleanser and Azelaic Acid in the same routine :) This is what your routine would look like: AM Routine: - Gentle Cleanser - Vitamin C (depends on what you use) - Tea Tree and Rose Hip Oil - Sunscreen PM Routine: - SA Cleanser - Niacinamide - Tea Tree and Rose Hip Oil - (Optional) Moisturiser - Azelaic Acid

@@ellyco5405 Personally, I like Paula's Choice Vitamin C Booster serum and Azelaic Acid Booster a lot! This depends on your concerns and what you want to improve :) Hm...what do you mean? If you should use the same products during summer/when being on holiday?
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet ahh thanks I will check those out! So helpful. And I just meant, can my routines stay the same when I’m on holiday / in a hot country or is there anything in there I shouldnt use
Well, it depends on your specific ageing concerns... Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid) has a long history of being a great anti-aging antioxidant to protect the skin and increase collagen production, reducing the look of present lines and wrinkles. It also can brighten the skin and lighten dark spots caused by the sun. But it may sting on people's skin that have sensitive skin. You also have the Vitamin C derivatives that are mainly used to brighten and even out the skin tone. The Ordinary Buffet is a mix of different 'peptides' which I think are relatively new on the market, and not much research has been done. Still, from what they have tested, it can penetrate into the skin and increase collagen to reduce the look of fine lines and firm the skin. Also, Peptides do not really irritate the skin in the sense of experience stinging. However, Peptides may influence hormones and hair growth (which is good when using it on your head but not when using it on your face)😉
Hello :) Well I cannot tell you how often to use these products, especially not with the peel since it is individual, and you need to figure out the right frequency. For me, it is about 1-2 times a month. But it also depends on if you use other acidic products during the week, such as the Vitamin C you are using, which is pretty intense! So balance it and do not use the Vitamin C on the same day you use the Peeling solution.

No, this is a pure form of Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid) and should not be used in the same routine since it may neutralize each other. It's best to use one in the morning, and the other at night or use them at different days.

The order of application is correct. However, I recommend being careful because if you do it like this, you exfoliate your skin twice per day + you are using in the evening a high strength of Vitamin C. This may work for your skin, but the risk of over-exfoliating and experiencing sensitivity like stinging/burning is high. I recommend doing it like this for some time before changing the routine that way you have listed it: AM Routine: - Cleanser - Lactic Acid (2-3 times per week and adjust the frequency over time) - Hyaluronic Acid - SPF PM 1 Routine: - Cleanser - (Optional) Hyaluronic Acid - Vitamin C Suspension PM 2 Routine (once per week): - Cleanser - Peeling Solution - Hyaluronic Acid

Hi! Thanks for the video.
Can I use caffeine serum and after Super Facialist Vitamin C+ Brighten eye cream? Or have to use the ordinary alpha arbutin between them? I have dark circles under eyes. Thanks x
Hey! :)
I recommend layering your products from the thinnest to the thickest texture. So, if you use an Alpha Arbutin serum as well, layer like this:
- Cleanser
- Caffeine Solution
- Alpha Arbutin
- Eye Cream
- Moisturizer
Hello Brooke 🙂
I think it works best when removing the Benzoyl Peroxide.

Hello 🤗. Thank you 🙏🏽. Do you think it will be effective to combine sunscreen with their 30% Vitamin C in silicone?
Hello 😃
According to my comments, it leads to dark patches on the skin, especially when living in hot and humid climates. And when having a look at the research, Vitamin C is always combined with other Antioxidants to give that "boost". So no, I think it's best to use it in the evening before going to bed. However, it's not wrong-just something to keep in mind.

@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet how long should I wait before each product melissa?
Do not use too much of each product...about one drop of the caffeine solution for both eyes, and about 2-3 drop (you can also add 1-2 drops more) of you face serums and a pea-size amount of your moisturiser and about half a teaspoon of your sunscreen. Make sure that the products can absorb into the skin. You can wait 30seconds to 1 minute in between each product :)

Is it okay to mix my eucerin acne prone cleanser (with salicylic acid) with the vitamin c serum (alpha arbutin 2% ascorbic acid 8%)?
Hey :)
Yes, that's fine! :)

Well, that's a controversial topic.
The Ordinary mentions specifically not using them in the same routine. However, other brands do not like to talk about this combination at all and Paula's Choice says it doesn't matter, like you can use them together. So, it's not clear to me what's really happening if you would use them in the same routine or even mix them.
Do you use a Niacinamide serum? In that case, you would use your serum before applying the Vitamin C Suspension.

Hi Melissa
If you had to chose between vitamin C or the buffet for my AM routine for anti aging, what would you chose?
Hope she answers, I'd like to know as well
Well, it depends on your specific ageing concerns...
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet So I guess vitamin C would be the winner if I don’t experience any serious problems using it with its potency?

Hello :) Well I cannot tell you how often to use these products, especially not with the peel since it is individual, and you need to figure out the right frequency. For me, it is about 1-2 times a month. But it also depends on if you use other acidic products during the week, such as the Vitamin C you are using, which is pretty intense! So balance it and do not use the Vitamin C on the same day you use the Peeling solution.

The order of application is correct. However, I recommend being careful because if you do it like this, you exfoliate your skin twice per day + you are using in the evening a high strength of Vitamin C.
This may work for your skin, but the risk of over-exfoliating and experiencing sensitivity like stinging/burning is high.
I recommend doing it like this for some time before changing the routine that way you have listed it:
