Shortly after we got married, I was shipped out for Desert Storm. In my first package from home that finally reached me, she had made me a mix tape and this was the first song. I cried my eyes out. We held out the long distance a military separation so we are going into our 32 anniversary this June and I still hold her every day.

Richard Marx (yes, that is his real name) owned the airwaves in the late 80s and early 90s. His first SEVEN singles all hit the Top 5, including three #1s. This was one of them. Some of his other big airplay hits were "Hold On to the Nights", "Endless Summer Nights", "Satisfied", "Don't Mean Nothing", "Should've Known Better", and "Angelia". "Hazard" is another great one, and tells a great story. He also collaborated with the legendary Luther Vandross on "Dance With My Father", for which he won a Grammy. Believe it or not, he also duetted with Heart in 2013 on the song "All Through the Night". Thanks for reacting! Love everything 80s!
Richard, at the time was in a very serious relationship with “actress/singer/dancer” Cynthia Rhodes (she was in the Toto Rosanna video as well as Staying Alive with John Travolta and Dirty Dancing with Swayze along with many other movies). Cynthia was doing a film in Africa while Richard was in L.A. He wrote her this song and sent it to her. It was nothing more than a personal love song from him to her. She played it cried with joy and played it for her girlfriend. Upon coming home it got around & many suggested that Richard put it on a record. He constantly said “NO” it was nothing more than just a love song for her. Well, he said “fine” thinking nothing would come of it and evidently it did. It went to #1 on the “Hot 100 billboard chart”.
I just saw Richard Marx last Sunday night here in Fort Lauderdale and he sounds exactly the same. Two hours of Richard and a guitar & piano - it was acoustic perfection 🥰
I saw him a couple years ago in Greenville, TN. Just him and guitar and piano. On tour after Covid. His voice hasn't changed. He comes across as very humble and sincere. A true musical craftsman.
Unbeknownst to me, my late wife made a mixed tape before she died. I found it a few days after her funeral and after her message this was the first song that played. You had me crying. Thank you for reacting to this song
In 1989 I was 37 years old. Richard Marx’s deeply passionate romantic song captivated my soul. This is New Year’s Day 2023 and now I am 70 years young🎉! My heart and I have been on a very interesting journey and this song evokes memories of loves that I have known.
My one and only child...my dearest daughter went to Scotland forever...well it turned out to be just 6 monthly, but to me it was forever...she was 20 something at the time. This song made me think of her, so far away..so it isn't only a "love" song... it's a song about love and distance and waiting and hoping ...
Not only is he a great singer, he's an amazing songwriter. He's written for so many people, it would take me quite awhile to list them all. If you listen to Lionel Ritchie's song "You Are", you will hear him singing backup which was one of his first things he did. He wrote this song "Right Here Waiting" for his then wife Cynthia Rhodes (Dirty Dancing, Staying Alive). He's got so many great songs to choose from, you will enjoy discovering all those gems. I've always been a fan from his first hit "Don't Mean Nothing" until today. Enjoy the ride!

Yes this is a beautiful song. I remember when it came out in 1989 a local radio station here every night at a certain time would play this song and let people call in and give shout outs to friends and family members serving in the Gulf war. Saying how much they miss them and that they’ll be waiting for them when they make it back home. Much love and big hugs robsquad family! ❤️🌈

When I was in Jr High this song was everywhere. One day we all got called into the auditorium for something, but us being teens everyone was chatting standing around. The teacher at the front was trying to get everyone to sit with no success. All of a sudden one of my friends Tammy went up to the piano by the stage and started playing the piano opening. It was like a wave in the auditorium of kids going quiet to pay attention to this song. Everyone moved to their seats in awe. Richard Marx wrote several songs for several bands and artists especially in the "Pop-rock" genre. Is songs often has a little more edge which made them a go-to for Rock/Metal bands who wanted a radio hit. In between them he had some monster hits of his own, like this one and "Don't Mean Nothing". He wrote "Edge of a Broken Heart" that VIXEN scored a hit with. A band and song you reviewed a while ago.
Wow, hard to believe you haven't reacted to this one until now. Big #1 hit in 1989. It's one of those songs that I KNEW would hit #1, the very first time I heard it!!!
It gives me such pleasure to see good ol’ 80’s music being appreciated by a younger generation. I grew up listening to this song on all the radio stations; best time period ever!
Oh man, I miss the 80s. His “It don’t mean nothing” is a pop bob. Should’ve know better and endless summer nights and hold onto the night…….😅😅oh!!!!And Hazard…
"Hazard" is my favorite from Richard Marx. It tells a story that you will understand better if you watch the official video. "Endless Summer Nights" is another great one.
“Endless Summer Nights” was the theme of my Senior Prom and the song we walked in to for our Grand March…..so romantic, and a night I’ll never forget❤️♥️❤️
"Hazard" is my fav Richard Marx song I could listen to that on repeat forever and never get tired of it u should have a listen. His voice just sucks you in and makes you feel every lyric he sings!!!
I remember this song was and is everywhere! Lol I remember MTV would play this video religiously! Endless Summer Nights as well and the radio station too. 1988/89.
A more rockin' pop and danceable (typical 80's) song by him is, "Should've Known Better." "Endless Summer Nights" is another great one that has a slower tempo and a little somethin' right off the bat that Amber will love! 😊 Man, these take me back!!! ❤ "Now and Forever" would definitely be that wedding song everyone used. "Hold On To the Nights" is another strong ballad. There are more, but those really got Richard to be "a household name."
How blessed we are when see the masterpiece of a gifted artist unveiled. Please consider reacting to' Hazard'? Another masterpiece in writing and vocals.
I love this song! He has a very beautiful voice and this song can really bring tears to your eyes. Another nice song I love is "One In A Million" by Larry Graham. You really should check that out
He performed at our community lake last summer. Great live performer. He also played songs he wrote for others. Very surprising that he wrote for 98 degrees and Luther Vandeoss. Very different genres
Richard Marx was all over the airwaves in the 80's and 90's. There's another song from 1980, One in a Million You by Larry Graham you should react to. He's a bassist and singer and played with Sly and the Family Stone and was also the founder and frontman for Graham Central Station. He's also the uncle of rapper Drake. Great reaction guys!
I saw Richard Marx in concert back in 1992, and I can attest that his live singing voice sounds just like what you heard in this video. It was a fantastic concert. He has a ton of hits, so you will likely being doing more reactions to him. Cheers!
Marx also wrote big hits for other artists, including “Dance With My Father” for Luther Vandross and “This I Promise You” for *N’SYNC. He’s also married to former MTV veejay Daisy Fuentes.
"Should've Known Better"
"Don't Mean Nothing"
"Hold On To the Nights" are all bangers. ❤

Still love Richard Marx!
Yes Yes Yes...so glad y'all finally got around to him. He is definitely one you have to hear more of.
I miss MTV lol
His music crossed over to many charts, pop, pop rock, adult contemporary but yeah Richard Marx had many bangers 👍
"Hazard" is my favorite from Richard Marx. It tells a story that you will understand better if you watch the official video. "Endless Summer Nights" is another great one.
"now and forever" is another great one from him
“Endless Summer Nights” was the theme of my Senior Prom and the song we walked in to for our Grand March…..so romantic, and a night I’ll never forget❤️♥️❤️
Another good one to react is Bryan Adams' "Heaven".
OMG, yes! :D :D :D
Great suggestion! I love him!!
You really should check that out
Larry Graham
1 in a million
YES!
He performed at our community lake last summer. Great live performer. He also played songs he wrote for others. Very surprising that he wrote for 98 degrees and Luther Vandeoss. Very different genres
Now you guys should do Bryan Adams - Everything I do (I Do For You).
And also "Heaven".
Richard Marx is amazing.......highly underrated, I think.
Just wow, this song takes me back. His voice is just beautiful. It makes me swoon covers it. I think you’d enjoy “Right Here Waiting” from 1989 next.
She's her eyes closed and is swaying.Song has got here.I was overseas in the military when this song came out.
He also good looking and still sounds amazing to this day.
