Jon got his start as a back up singer for Gloria Estefan. On her Coming Out Of The Dark tour she had him sing this song at her show. It just shows how generous she was to people in her crew.
And you can hear Gloria singing backup loud and clear. Beautiful song by a man with a great voice.

Loved this song from.the first time I heard it and love the combination of his and Gloria Estefan's background vocals.
Jon should have been a much bigger star he has the talent.
He was a professor for MDC when he met Emilio (Gloria's husband). He wrote many songs for Gloria and MSM. Emilio mentored Juan (Jon) when he decided to sing the backup vocal track to Coming Out of The Dark after Gloria's tour bus accident.
I've always heard his name pronounced as Seh-Cah-Da. Amazing singer! His Spanish version of this song is also amazing!

He was Gloria Esteban’s backup singer. And when he decided to make a solo album, she sang back up for him!!! Queen! Also what a great song! When this came on in the clubs in NYC, EVERYONE got up to dance! Love u guys! ❤
Jon Secada found himself. He was a vocal coach. He even taught Miami Vice's Don Johnson how to carry a tune. Amber was blushing lol.
I remember when this came out, everyone was hooked immediately, my sisters were in love with him. His voice really is amazing.
Jon Secada was one of the best Latin voices to emerge in the 1990's. From his backup work with Gloria Estefan and the Miami Sound Machine to his later solo hits, he was very popular with the ladies.
Marc Snthony would break through later in the decade with two brilliant singles, I NEED TO KNOW, and YOU SANG TO ME.
Ricky Martin would have his biggest success with SHE BANGS and LIVIN' LA VIDA LOCA.
Of course, the Latin explosion wouldn't be complete without mentioning Selena and the major return of Carlos Santana.
There was also Juan Gabriel, Lucero, Alejandra Guzman, Shakira, Enrique Iglesias, and many others.
Speaking of Santana, the next song should be MARIA, MARIA. Everyone knows about SMOOTH. But I think the rhythm and pace of Maria will really hook you. Enjoy

Two other great singles by Jon Secada are "Do you believe in us" & "If you go". Songs like this give me a tear for my childhood.
I was so excited when I saw your thumbnail! Jon Secada (Seh-cah- dah) was one of my favorite 90s singers! He was also a songwriter. He won 2 Grammy Awards and sold over 15 million records. Jon started as Gloria Estefan's back up singer and she was very supportive of his career. You will see Gloria briefly in the video singing back up for Jon. His English and Spanish songs were also very popular in Latin America. He had that rhythmic Latin sound. 💖
I was 18 when this song came out. My first real job as a receptionist, and this was one of the songs that played through the phone. I miss the 90's! 😊

That's actually Gloria Estefan singing backup on this one. Such great voices. I'd suggest "If You Go" for upbeat pop and "Too Late, Too Soon" for a quiet storm ballad. And "Stop" is fun Latin pop.

We hear Jon Secada sing "I" the first time at 2:15 and you can see Amber smile for the first time in this song and you see Jay's eyebrows go up. They are pleasantly surprised and genuinely impressed. Twenty seconds later we hear the second "I" and both Jay and Amber close their eyes and are fully in love with Jon Secada's vocals. See how Jay and Amber react to the third time Jon Secada sings "I" at 5:20 and the fourth time at 6:05.

His is a short, but beautiful rabbit hole. He was my favorite male singer in the early ‘90’s. Handsome, well educated, and oh so talented as a singer and songwriter.
If you look back at a list of his songs, I think you will find that he had more hits than you might remember.
@@chrisoakley5830 he had many many hits. But not as many as The Beatles, Bee Gees, Rolling Stones, Tom Petty.Etc…I’m looking forward to seeing the stats on his most popular recordings. But, he is also a talented writer. His pop hits recorded by others may make my idea of his rabbit hole a little larger.
Regardless, his voice is superb, and I wish he had more commercial success as a solo artist.

Jon was such a staple of VH1 and 90’s late night love song stations. My favorite by him is “If you go.” It’s so powerful and has the stereotypical desert video that was so pervasive at the time! 😂 Like everyone says, his catalog is huge and his songs in Spanish are so amazing.

I got curious and checked him out on Spotify. Just Another Day has 82.5 million plays in English. It has close to 100 million in Spanish. Love it!

A couple of my favorite Jon Secada songs from back in the day that I think you'll dig: "Do You Believe in Us" and "Angel" (Spanish version)
So here in Florida, high school seniors would go on their class trip called "Grad Nite" to Disney World's Magic Kingdom. Disney would close the park to only HS seniors until the early morning hours. We were in a STUPID long line for Space Mountain, so we left and wandered to the live music area. JON SECADA WAS PERFORMING THIS SONG!!! So good! PM Dawn also performed. Never so grateful for long Space Mountain lines 😂
Jon started out as one of Gloria Estefan's backup singers on her music cd's and tours. Gloria provided some of the backup vocals on Just Another Day and co-wrote the Spanish version of the song.

Oh my goodness I absolutely ADORE Jon Secada's music! This song in particular takes me right back to the summer of 1992, swimming at the beach with my friends and this song playing over the boombox. What a great era in general, but especially for music! I miss those days so much. Crazy to think it's been over 30 years now 😱

WOW! 1992?! I didn't realize I was that young when this came out. My aunt was OBSESSED with Jon Secada. She had the biggest crush on him, recorded anything he made an appearance on, even went and saw him live on the Jay Leno show. Listening to this song with you guys was like an exercise in muscle memory LOL. I still know every lyric, every breath, every time he gives that heartfelt wince when he hits the high notes. Omg this was a trip down memory lane for sure!

I have heard Jon sing this numberous times live,and this man does NOT skip a note or a beat live,he is just naturally talented! He tends to have a green card to those "Bring Back The 90s" concerts. Other songs by him thats worth checking out too: If You Go, Do You Believe In Us, Too Late Too Soon and even Jon Secada ANGEL (Orchestra Filarmonica di Torino ) Its on Jons own YT channel,and it shows him truly carrying a song live. Jon Secada is a vocal beast!
What struck me when I heard this song was how the piano in the verse parts just stood out. The synth beat in the background is light, yet has a driving feel to it and the vocals, including Jon's, have an airy vibe to them. It gives that song a lot of empty space, like you're truly in a room by yourself. It builds very subtly until Jon opens that last chorus section in a grand way. Takes me back to summer of '92. Great choice again, guys!

Oh my what an evening! You just reacted to Phil Collin's and you go right into another great! I played this song all the time after I bought the album on cassette. Yep, popped it into the Pioneer system in my Beetle and headed home from work at night with Jon belting this one out! I miss those days!! "Too Late, Too Soon" is another great from Mr. Secada.

Glad you finally got to experience Jon Secada. His vocals on up tempo songs and ballads are amazing. All of his songs are phenomenal, but two of my top favorites are Angel, which he recorded versions in English and Spanish, and I'm Free, which is an uplifting, feel good song. I hope you give them a listen, and continue to explore his catalog; you won't be disappointed.

Being a gringo in Hialeah at the time, must say, it did broaden my appreciation for other musical styles. Miami Sound Machine concert at the old, torn down Miami Convention Center was one of the best concerts I ever attended. When this song broke onto the national scene Miami, Miami Beach, the whole So Fla scene was just hitting its stride.

Phenomenal hair!
I had forgotten how much I loved this song until I opened this video and saw your reactions. I was on the cusp of finally being out of the teen years, branching out on my own, falling in and out of love, driving in my beat-up old Chevette on a warm summer night. Ahh, that feeling when you get your first taste of freedom, before you grow bored with adulthood and wonder where your youth went. That's what this song sounds like to me. It reminds me of a club remix of a smooth ballad over soft hip hop beats. Thanks for taking me back to that snapshot of my life. ❣
One of my favorite (and underrated IMO) artists. My favorite songs of his are “Do You Believe In Us” and “I’m Free”. Great vocals on those and the ballad “Angel”.
