Man it's great to see you using the original! Jump academy has been an eye opener for me. I breezed through it until around walls e7 - e10 and I'm shocked at how difficult rocket jumping can get.
I love that you put ctap early. If I could have newer jumpers take anything away it's to learn this. Yes, learn strafes and wall shots and speed pogos, etc. But ctaps _amplify_ your jumps and you feel it
For anyone looking to improve past Jump_Academy2 (like t5 and beyond), beyond the scope of what would actually be useful in game, then there are plenty of maps to pick. Generally there aren't many maps dedicated to one form of rocket jumping until you get to t6+ but some good ones are Jump_Deserted (t4 pogo), Jump_Passion (t5 walls/syncs), Jump_Nebuchadnezzar (t5 walls/sync), Jump_Legion (t5 walls), Jump_Wallpog (goated t5 pogo map, not sure if its on tempus but it is on ja (I was the one who got it added lol)), and Jump_Ziggurat (t5 pogo). Now for those who want even more, there are Jump_Koro (t6 walls), Jump_Aigis (t6 syncs), Jump_Edgebug (t6 edgebug, should be t5 imo), Jump_Repente2 (t6 bounce), Jump_Attached (t6 pogo), Jump_Detached (t6 phase pogo), Jump_Primal (t6 pogo), Jump_Caelum (t6 pogo, not sure if its on tempus, but it is on ja (I also got this map added), also b4 and b5 are sick bonuses, especially b4), Jump_Temple (t6 walls/prefires), Jump_Cyskic (t6 prefires), Jump_Vidaryking (t6 gimmick, great if you hate yourself ig, doesn't work on ja currently), Jump_Wallfox (t6 pogo/phase pogo, I saw someone put this at t8 which is ridiculous, t7 would be really pushing it imo), Jump_Sync (t7 sync), Jump_Ionizer (t7 walls), Jump_Squared (t7 pogo, don't cheese the jumps), Jump_Nefarious (t7 walls/sync), Jump_4holers (t7? holes, no idea what tier, prolly 7 I think?), Jump_Attached2 (t7/8 pogo, not sure if its 7 or 8, probably 7 since I've beaten it), Jump_Turnuround (t7/8 pogo, not sure if its 7 or 8, haven't beaten it myself so idk), Jump_Hanami (t8 prefire), Jump_Bangarang (t8 prefire), Jump_Geronimo (t8 prefire), Jump_Nincompoop (t9 prefire i think, I'm not sure if I've even seen the map i can't remember, but def t9), Jump_Murus (t9 pogo, goated map imo though the farthest jump I've gotten to is 6/11 lol), Jump_Nuclear (t9? walls, this might be t10 but I'm fairly sure its t9, idk tho I'm not a wall main), Jump_Rickoconnel (t10 prefire, not sure if this is still considered t10 anymore), Jump_5holers (t10 holes), and Jump_Attached3 (t10 pogo, I dream of beating this map if you can't tell with how many pogo map recomendations I've given thus far). I've missed a ton of other good maps, but these are generally all the dedicated maps that I remember off the top of my head. Have fun!
I wanna leave this here cause I started doing ja medium today my worst habit is not getting close enough to the wall when strafing back into it. After fixing it the map became way easier. Very important to learn for jump 10. Oh also if you're using the ctap Id wait a bit until you actually needed to fire your 2nd rocket I noticed sometimes my crouch was lost with it.
This feels like when one is in a math class, thinking: When will I ever use this in real life?" But in the end, turns out you will use it a lot (regarding pogo'ing and such)
15:26 you get 60 points for beating a T6? point update 2024 using crouchjump script, jds or whatever the heck u are using on your mouse while showing your inputs on a tutorial video is really confusing for people who dont know since you are not adressing that
At 3:08, you didn't even crouch or press Space but still managed a really high jump. Was it just so quick that it didn't get picked up by your display or is there a way to rocket jump high without even jumping? I tried Jump Academy but really struggled on the basics. I can do simple rocket jumps but just about every challenge there requires you to get the max height/distance, perfect angles and be a master of strafing and I just couldn't get a handle on any of those. I tried every ordering and timing of crouch+jump+shoot and the max height jumps wouldn't work for me, even with pros spectating and giving advice (literally pushing all buttons at the very same instant and them still saying "No, you're firing too late"). I managed to luck my way to Easy Walls 10 somehow but got so motion-sick I had to give up! (I also noticed on the Basics course, the signs say "Press crouch+jump+shoot all at the same time" but the slow-mo gif on the wall shows they crouch first, then jump, then shoot - very confusing!)
I crouch every time I right click. Go watch and implement my ctap script and it will solve all of your problems that you've stated. When i rocket jump, all I'm doing is right clicking, letting go, and then left clicking. It's so simple and will make the game so much more enjoyable for you on soldier. P.S. I just got to the 4th area on Majora's mask and looking to finally beat that game! I gave up as a little kid
@@FrisbeeTF2 Ahhh, I remember now I used to have a script like that. Not specifically ctapping but for a more basic crouch jump and that really helped when I did jump maps years and years ago. I wasn't that good at them back then - didn't know strafing was even a thing - but I did wonder why I struggled so much this time compared to back in the day. Kind of want to figure out "raw" rocket jumping but might cave and get the script eventually... Thanks for replying and for the videos, both are well made. Hope you're having fun with Majora, it's a great game! I was a little kid when Ocarina of Time came out and was too scared to beat the first boss Gohma myself or face Wallmasters so didn't finish it until years later, so I feel you there! :)
Guys, I've been using jump academy but ran into a problem: the checkpoints, tutorials, and input information stopped working and I don't know what to do. I can still probably get through the course, but I want to actually practice the drills. How to fix?
A Speed shot has to do with the order in which the game checks for stuff in each physic tick. The important thing is that the walk speed gets applied on the tick following the one where you land. When the game notices that you are close enough to the ground (0-2 units above), it flags you as "grounded", and sets your vertical velocity to 0. By taking rocket blast on that same tick, your speed is then changed by the rocket, giving a significant horizontal boost since you still have the horizontal speed from before you landed, and a moderate vertical one since your vertical speed is currently 0. On the following tick, the first thing the game does is check if you have enough upward velocity to be considered airborne. If your vertical speed is greater than 250 u / s (which will happen as long as your rocket wasn't too far behind you), you go from grounded to airborne. A bit later in that tick the game will check if you are grounded, and if so, applies friction/walk speed. However as we said you are airborne again, so you get to keep your hot new horizontal speed on top of having a vertical "reset". - VAVLIE A pogo doesn't get any of the speed shot physics applied to it.
it is generally much more difficult to chain multiple speedshots together so in long jumps it will be much more common to have several pogos than several speedshots
@@mehmeterciyas6844 yes! I actually was going to include them in this guide but the video started to get crazy long and had way too much info at once. DM guide will be next

crouch doesnt make strafing easier but the rest is true, it gives you more knockback from your own rockets and everything else, hitbox is smaller and its good habit to just hold it midair in case you chain techniques rather than crouch before everything like the video especially cuz you have limited crouches while mid air
honestly its not necessary to play on ping to apply basics to general gameplay but if what you dont like about offline is how the rockets look just use higher interp so the rockets look delayed
