Here's How I Made The Interior of My 31 Year Old BMW E30 Look Modern Again On A Budget (PART 1)

  • Опубліковано 21 чер 2020
  • When I first purchased my BMW E30 sight unseen it was in pretty bad shape. The exterior needed a handful amount of work, the engine didn't run and the interior was a dumpster. I figured I'd tackle the interior first since it was the place I was going to spend most of my time in. In a previous video I stripped some of the interior and gave it a deep clean and got rid of most of the bad smell. Now it was time to properly restore the interior to a factory finish while using the smallest budget I could possibly get away with. The end result was unreal. You'll see some of the restoration in this video (Part 1). Make sure to subscribe to see the conclusion in the next e30 episode (Part 2).

    I bought my 1987 BMW 325 IC in April 2002. I have personally done all the work, put in total $11,000 including the car. I’ve garaged it the past 18 years that I have owned it. You are a E30 buddy.

      2002 is when I was born and I got a 1987 bmw 325i (sedan) from my dad just one month before the Covid 19 and I am very close to get the car running great. Obviously I don’t have much money but I am saving to make the car roadworthy again.

    People don’t want to just see the before & after. Record all of it! I organize bolts in the little magnetic harbor freight bowls. They’re like $2 each and every time I go, I pick one up.

    The dash wiring won’t be too bad as long as you put sticky labels telling you where everything goes!

    Great job on doing the dash! It’s a nightmare dealing with the electronics and the wiring. For keeping everything organized, I usually group bolts and nuts and other parts together and put them in a ziploc baggie and label it so I remember. Look forward to the finished interior!

  • @gtcreels532
    @gtcreels532 3 роки тому +1

    Best way to stay organized is to take pictures before the tear down on each section and use plastic boxes like target sells them cheap but organization is key. I use paint markers on the heads of screws for each section I take apart. It’s better to organize and take that time to track your components than it is to source it because you are disorganized. Also for screws for different parts of the dash and stuff I used different colored electrical tapes and wrap screws and color match and put the tape onto the areas of the dash or any interior parts

    Really looking good so far! I use a lot of ziplock bags and a sharpie to keep the fiddly bits organized. Usually just a brief description of the contents and sometimes I’ll number the bags to remind me of the order of disassembly. I also put bolts and screws back in after taking a part off, if possible (less to keep track of). Looking forward to the finished product! Side note: lots of non M cars have M components as original equipment. My e92 with the M sport package came with a bunch of M parts. Build it however you want...it’s your dime.

    I have an e36 coupe and like your e30 i had take apart the whole dash and center console and even the carpets because of a sunroof leak, but somehow i got it all back together and wrapped the whole dash in some faux suede, dyed the carpet black, bought some red leather sports seats out of a BMW z3 and voila a beautiful luxurious interior and it didn’t cost me too much in the end - 10m of faux suede for about $50 and i picked up the two seats at a scrapyard for $200

    Im having the hardest time finding the right part number for the weather stripping for the bottom of the exterior driver/passenger side windows-the piece you would rest your arm on if you rolled down the window and rested your arm there. 1988 325is. Every catalog I look in gives me a different number and the ones I ordered from ECS were wrong even when they said they were supposed to fit. Any help would be appreciated.

    You didn’t tell any lies about the dash being so complicated, I had a hard enough time removing the dash from a freaking parts car that I had. It’s your car and you can do whatever you want, but the skipping the vent foam replacements and servicing all of the ac components is the only time that you would ever get that chance, even in light of the fact that you don’t intend to use the ac it would still make the car more valuable for resale purposes. To each their own. An overall good 👍🏾 job, though.✌🏾

    Hi guys. I was looking for bmw forums on the 335i, but I wasn’t able to find any active ones. (If anyone could point me towards a good bmw forum it would be greatly appreciated.) I am looking for a 335i, and it would end up being my first car. My budget is around 10k, so I’m looking at a car with around 100k miles and I’m trying to stay with the n55 for reliability. I also have to get an XDrive model and I’m looking for a manual. Is this a good idea? I’m afraid of the reliability on these vehicles, and I’m not in a position to fix any catastrophic failures at the moment. If anyone had tips for some more modern and reliable German cars, it would be appreciated.
