Devastating, I will take a snow storm any day!!
Thanks for bringing us along!!
Yeah bring on the snow!
I would like to give a personal thank you to all the VDOT workers and their subcontractors for making our roads a safer place. Not knowing what was next down the road was a real thing.Thank God no one was hurt. I know I would have liked my man seating beside me on the couch drinking coffee...but that is not who he is. Out pushing and loaning out all his generators to local business. Proud of all of you! Mawmoo to2
Yes I know it should have been sitting....
Thanks mom! Love you
Preach it Mom! Amen!
We had a severe ice storm 15 yrs ago like your having. It literally changed the way the woods and the landscape looked forever. Good luck, great video!!!
Well that's encouraging. Lol
DLH Farms , there were woods I hunted and after the ice, they were impassable...
I don't doubt that
Thank you for clearing Squirrel Spur Road. You were being kind when you called that section at the end a disaster. Seeing it in the video doesn't do it justice. It was far worse than it looked even after your second pass. And sorry to see and hear your tractor get so beat up. Hopefully the light bracket/support was the worst of it.
I am amazed how many widow makers remain in the trees around here. Hopefully the winter winds clear out/off all those half broken and dangling limbs. It was real dangerous working on the road that day and the next. I was only out because two trees were down on our private road and they needed to be cleared. Thanks again my friend for all your hard work and videos.
Thanks! That was all the damage I had fortunately. You would think that it would have destroyed the roof but it didn't. It's still a mess out there for sure but it's out of our hands now the tree crews will hopefully clean up most of it along the roads.
Wow, what a ice storm. Really enjoyed the ride through the countryside. That’s a lot of ice. U did a great job clearing the road. Thanks for the ride. Look forward to seeing more on the generator, too. 👍👍
Generator coming soon
Thank you for your hard work & the videos.
Had an ice storm like that in 09.
With trees popping and power lines flashing it was spooky! Glad you got it done safely!
Know one was hurt that I'm aware of we we're very blessed.
Impressive amounts of ice. Thanks for all you do.
Thanks!
I think the T-5 needs a hard hat too. And a brush guard for the windshield. And winter don't even start for 35 more days.
The protection would be nice, but this isn't the T5.

Haha I was going to say something like that too! Paint scratches!
Can't believe all the cleanup that's going to need to be cleaned up! It's one thing to get them out of the road but they can't stay there. That blade you have I know is meant for snow but it worked nice for what you were doing. Those wings on the ends sure work good! Thanks again for sharing the video.
Yep they are working to get all the trees cleaned up off the sides of the road s now but it's going to take a long time.
You did a fine job! We had one of those in 2000 and shut everything down for 6 days up to 18 days, bad stuff! ....13
Not fun times.
So glad it was too warm when this system came through Guilford County, N.C. I hate that it was this bad for you and am glad you made it through this system safe. When Hurricane Michael came through it devastated my area. This much ice on our already weakened trees and way over saturated soil would have been a catastrophe for us.
I'm glad you didn't have to deal with this also.
thanks for taking us along
No problem!
Good job on clearing roads for passage. Scenic for summer drives, the pits during ice storms. Consider making up a "GO BAG" to keep in your tractor / essentials that often get overlooked. Cheers!
Certainly lot of "dingbats" out on the roads making clearing a disaster.! Good job Dennis and thanks for sharing.
Good idea in the go bag. 👍
Just the basic stuff, spare pair of gloves, safety items as you noted , small First Aid kit, saw wrench!!!!, a couple of energy bars and a water. @@DLHFarms
👍
Too bad about all the damage caused but, what a lovely landscape you have got there! I do like your "road movies", thanks for your effort making them.
No problem I'll make some more when it snows
Hope you and the family are all safe. It's hilarious that every time you stop and talk to someone on the road they are a relative, lol. Hope you get some deserved rest. Thanks for the video.
Lol everyone that does this kinda stuff is related to me.
Oh yes, the joy of living in the country, GOOD job Dennis!!!
Yep I love it!
I am really liking these plowing videos you have been putting up lately. Keep up the good work
Awesome!
This is a great video. Watched it last year and again just now. Fun to ride along. Next time bring your pole saw along.
Thanks Scott!
That's awesome you guys get work from the dot. Great job.
Yep us and several other contractors around here.
Lunch well deserved. Good luck with the rest of your winter. Kind regards Christiaan
Thanks!
yeah im thankful for 10 inches of powder snow my little new holland got its exercise today between the 3 lots i cleared. it always amazes me the lack of respect people have for those clearing.
almot had a little car hit my loader as i was backing in to my driveway, then he had the guts to yell at me. took off like a bat out of hell when i hopped of the tractor.
good job out there and keep it up. hope things have improved for ya.
People are crazy no respect for the weather or people that have to deal with the weather.
Four things kept going through my head watching this: 1) a forestry helmet sure would be useful (have one made by 3M myself - rather handy piece of gear), 2) I'm feeling cold just watching this, 3) I'm glad I ended moving up far enough south that I don't have to deal with the snow and ice much any more (born in MN, now in northern AL), and 4) that sure is some really pretty country side......
👍
Wow again! Thanks for video!
👍
You did a great job. I can't believe how narrow your roads are. I guess it beats dirt roads.
Most of those narrow roads are dead end roads but yeah some of them suck. They do beat a lot of West Virginia's roads though.
My relatives live in Lowell/Westfield, Vermont. The men do an amazing job clearing the roads during winter storms. We got 5 to 9 inches of snow at the Groton/New London, CT shore.
Thats a lot of snow for this time of year.
Very good job DLH and guy's .
Thanks!
Nice video and nice of y’all to help them clear the roads and y’all be careful and stay safe and I really though they where about to drive throw there and man they got some bad ice on them trees and man need to trim them trees so when something like this happen it won’t be bad
👍
THAT IS 1 HELL OF A BLADE BROTHER...
Yes Sir it is awesome
Gosh that was scary!! Great job!!!!
Yes it was scary to especially if you had to get out and work under those trees that we're falling everywhere.
That hurts my feelings when limbs hit my tractor cab. Especially when coated with ice. I try to go around my fields to clear limbs, did that in years gone to keep from getting whacked in the face. Of course what you are doing, you can't help yourself.ya'll do a great service for all the people in they area
I agree it's very hurtful to hear the tractor take such a beating.
I can say I know the feeling of stress working around traffic. This was stressful to watch! I hate having a large intersection to clear and cars waiting at every stop sign so you can’t backup
Didn't mean to stress you out but it was hectic at times.
That's crazy. With all that ice hangin off like that, I'm surprised a branch didn't swing around and bust out a windshield or some other cab glass while ya'all were clearing up.
Yeah I'm surprised the glass made it too
The rural lifestyle is the best!
I think so
I don't think I have ever watched two videos that had me ducking and dodging tree branches the way these two videos have.
Lol👍
A couple of good videos. Real good. Job well done. Would your Limbinator been any help?
Actually in certain places yes it probably would have, but getting paid for it would have been an issues. They don't have a line item for a limbinator.
Good job buddy I love these videos more more
Lol need some snow now
"You need the right tool for the job, Beavis"
excellent video just be safe Dennis
Fortunately I made it out alive
They should make extended cabs for these tractors like a pickup so you can carry extra tools and people etc in the back.
Lol yeah that would be nice
Great videos buddy thank you
Thanks for watching!
You need one of my tractors we have them caged up so branches do scrape the cabs or glass lol
That would be nice
I live in the mountains of upstate NY... we get lots of snow, not so much ice. I used to live in Va and would much prefer the snow up here than the ice down there.
chaos. incredible video, nice one.
Thanks!
I am setting in 70 degree weather watching this video from Pasadena Tx.
Brag why don't ya. Lol
I remember back in the seventies having them up in Michigan man what wires didn't get tore down look like you could reach up and touch them
Yep that's how it was here.
Your neighbors should appreciate you!
I'm sure they do.
Thanks for the ride alone..bet you rather push snow anyday..😁
You got that right
You guys got it bad down there. Must have split us up here in Alleghany co. Just got lucky I guess. Great vid.
Yeah I think we got the worst of it
Dennis you a rollover cage on that tractor to do that kind of job boy i bet that roof is all smashed up....good luck good videeos
Actually it didn't hurt the roof. It's made out of a composite material it's pretty tough.
Great
I hope the twigs smacking the cab sounded worse than they were mate, because most of the two videos sounded like war on the tractor. You are right about the other traffic too, freak events like that tend to bring all the damn Muppets out for apparently no other reason than to get in your bloody way! Great effort clearing things up.
I inspected the roof it looks to be ok.
@@DLHFarms Good to hear mate.
Nice job 👍. I was kinda waiting for the windscreen to break as you hit those limbs 😣. Definitely an alternative use of a snow plough though!
They are pretty hard to break even with a hammer.
I've found its usually the bit you don't expect that breaks them lol. Is it purely the weight of ice that breaks the limbs? Or is it the timber that has frozen?
It's just the weight. It was like 31 degrees Fahrenheit
You put the NH through the paces didn't you Dennis? Those low hangers sure do a number on a paint job my friend. I hope all is well now that it's over with.
The tractor made it just fine no major damage.
I don't think you needed a hard hat but that poor tractor sure did lol!!
Lol yes I sure did poor thing
Where do you keep your saw in a cabbed tractor? Looks small, so on floor?
Or do you have a carrier on outside somehow?
Regards,
Marky
Disregard. You addressed it later in video. 😂
Regards,
M
WOW, that's some ice.
Yes it was impressive I never seen anything like it.
How long can you run on a tank of gas/diesel? Were there places you could fill up?
I can go around 12 hours on a tank of diesel with some still to spare. We keep fuel at our shop and fill up there.
good morning there fella.
Morning!
I hope he set this up to play this early and ain't still awake.
It takes like 4 hours to upload. I was in the bed snug as a bug. Lol
We've got 80 mbps download and 20 Mbps upload thru the local power company down here.
I have 10 download and 2 upload.
IN 1998 Eastern Canada & North eastern USA was hit with a ice storm that had 1 1/2 to 2 inches of ice knocking out power for many for up to a month. Where is your ice storm?
Patrick county VA. We had about an inch and a half here in places.
I wonder if sending out a shorter plow would have made more sense ?
Scary stuff right their
It was a times
Does the county reimburse you for your cost? Will they pay for the light bracket?
No they just pay an hourly rate.
Give us a video of your snowplow setup.
Here you go
ua-cam.com/video/zZXThfZGsbU/v-deo.html
I hope you and your tractor get hazard pay that’s crazy dangerous out there. Thanks for all you do
I wish we could but it's just the same old hourly rate.
Holy cow
Lol
👍
*“JUST ER NERTHER DERN DARMN DAY IN VIRGINER.”*
_LAUGHS IN HILLBILLY VERNACULAR._
Lol yep!
sure like your blade,, what make is it?
It's an HLA 4200 series snow wing.
ua-cam.com/video/zZXThfZGsbU/v-deo.html
Great job clearing the road. Where is this by the way?
It's Patrick county VA
@@DLHFarms Thanks
I suppose the goal is just to keep the roads open for emergency vehicles? We had a bad ice storm here in 96 and again in 07 (if I remember correctly) power was out for a week each time.
Yes just keep at least one lane open for emergency use. If something happened to someone and they needed an ambulance imagine the law suits if it couldn't get there.
we had similar ice in northern NB Canada, several years ago , power took 12 days to restore, in January, with -12c average temp for the following 12 days after the storm, 60% of the power poles were snapped in two , , not fun
Yeah thats hard to deal with that cold with no power.
Back in the blizzard of 76-77 push snow with a d7 cat for days to open road
I've heard stories
good job buddy where you located
Patrick county VA
It’s Everywhere 🙀🙀
Good firewood!!1
Yep lots of it.
You should have seen the ice storm we had that hit our area Ottawa Montreal in 1998. Power was out to millions for days. Toppled the main hydro towers. They even had to call out the military. Are shop gotta call from the Royal hamilton light infantry they wanted every saw we had over 50cc with files and extra chains delivered to the armoury by 8pm that night. As bad as your storm looks it was pale in comparison. People were cut off for days. No heat power phones everything was down farmers had to dump their milk.
Yep that's pretty bad
With the mess y'all got, I can just imagin what "The Parkway looks like", through that area.
All we got was a cold rain
Oh, Last big Ice Storm was in 2005.
Where you from James?
You have to same last name as me
What part of Virginia are you in? Currently I'm in northern Virginia.
Patrick county VA. it's southwest
Right now, Lexington. I was born and raised in Randleman.
Ok
Be safe and stay frosty.
👍
The T5 took a beating today.
No it didn't, it wasn't the T5

Motorcycle helmet with a full face shield would work wonders.
Lol yeah
THATSALOTTADAMAGE! Doesn't look like much fun having to clean up endless trees. Too bad I ain't there following you with the payloader to rip down those low-hanging branches.
We could have used the help.
Do you guys do this on your own to help out your neighbors?
If so hats off to you.
No we have a contract with VDOT
where was this ice storm?
Patrick county VA
That's incredible amounts of ice and another one tonight and tomorrow ! Someone is gonna be hit hard again
Yep it got us again
@@DLHFarms it's pretty bad by central Va trees are probably soon coming down
I think most of the trees that were going to fall, fell in the last ice storm.
why is when the weather gets really bad everyone wants to go out and see how bad it is and the something bad happens to them and they can't figure out why. the best thing to do is stay home and let people like you do their job.
Exactly my thoughts.
David Shirley .i know right?
just stay home and watch DLH and you will see.
That's the best solution I've heard yet!
You would be surprised the places still want / require you to come in.
wher was this
Patrick county VA
I hope you are getting paid for all this work
Oh yeah we are
If your bringing the chainsaw, you always bring the tool & extra chain, & tools in case.
How bad did you mess up your tractor?
Just broke one rear light bracket.
@@DLHFarms Sure sounded bad with all them limbs hitting the top of the cab. Bet it wasn't cheap to replace the light bracket. I recently replaced a light switch for my New Holland and it cost about $78 from Messicks. Local Dealer didn't have them and wanted more money.
Yeah nothing is cheap on a tractor any more. It may be made cheap but it ain't cheap to buy.
I live in Fairfax County in the city of Fairfax
👍
What state is this in?
Va
Ha. That vdot loader was driving like it was state owned or something :)
Lol
I got a sore neck from just ducking. Be safe.
Lol!
Need to build a cab cage around your cab.
Yeah for this job it would have been nice
i take it you have contract with county to help in this kind of stuff
Yes we do
I sure hope you didn't damage the T-5 !
I didn't I wasn't using the T5.
