One of the snares(his name was zach) was teaching my schools drumline this week for a bit. He talked about how in the morning they would spend 3 hours or so on visuals then eat lunch then for another 3-4 hours they would focus on just cleaning their playing. Then they would get dinner until they had a full ensemble with the band for a 3-4 hours. But he said how that year they really wanted to be the best drumline so they would all meet at like midnight and walk a mile to a place where they would play on pads till like 3 in the morning and how they would wake up at 7 in the morning every day. Was really cool and the hard work clearly paid off
I marched a world line and i was already dying after a full day. 3am?? That's amazing. I didnt like this show at all as a young teen but this is phenomenal to me now
Awesome!! And YES, practice goes a long way! Good luck with your audition on snare! If you need (or want) any help, we actually write books that teach you how to strengthen your rudimental abilities. Check us out on thegridbookseries.com! Cheers!!
It will change your life for the better!! There aren't many activities that can give you the life experiences that Drum Corps does in just one summer. Something many people don't even see until after they 'Age Out' is how little Drum Corps is about marching & music, and how much more it is about becoming a better person, strong leader, and preparing you for dealing with whatever life throws at you. From all of us at The Grid Book Series, we recommend joining a Corps no matter where you march!!
Saw this line at the Massillon show at the beginning of Finals week that year. 7 years later the ‘13 Cadets is still sticks (for me personally) out as the best drumline I’ve ever seen.
Just seeing this. Awesome video! I marched in a DCI corps drumline for 3 years back in the 80's and this is the best video I've seen that captures what a day is like on tour. Super job!
Thanks so much Scott! That is a huge compliment! We hope to continue making these every year and are excited to do this with more groups over time. :) Glad you enjoyed it!!
Being that it's 2021, this is still one of my favorites lines of all time. This shit is the cleanest thing I've ever heard and it's just ridiculous the notes they're playing!
Yeah Man!! We had a lot of fun filming and editing it. It is cool for all the vets to have, but also a great teaching too for aspiring percussion sections. You all did a great job and were doing all of the right things, so from us, congratulations! Are you marching again in 2014 or did you age out?
This is about 450,000x better than the $20 tour DVD they sold this year, and it's almost exclusively percussion footage. That DVD sucked so much! Most of the clips, if not all, were on their UA-cam channel.
Dustin is right! There are still some all male corps out there, but Cadets is not one of them. You should check out the Cadets website for more info on them: yea.org/programs/cadets/cadets If you look around you will see girls in DCI lines all over through the years. As long as the Corps is not an all male organization, anyone has a shot at marching! There are MANY others, but here is a video of the 2005 Cadets Snare Line (look in the center) Cadets 2005 Snares Now, get to practicing and good luck!! =)
Sometimes i wish i hadn't given up on drum corp. I was 4th bass my freshman year of highschool, and was snare my sophmore and junior year. In my senior year, i thought my life was too good for my corp. so i quit. Now im a freshman in college, and wishing i hadnt given up so easily. I am wanting to get back into it, but i havent had any success. So, i guess my drumming days are a day of they past unfortunetly. I still do practice from time to time though. Only one can dream.
Thanks Tony! We actually only used a GoPro Hero 3 BLACK. We shot everything @ 1080p 60fps and used Final Cut Pro 7 to edit. Our audio was mainly from an H4N recorder, but we also liked the strong contact sound from the internal GoPro mic, so we synced both audio files to make a good, full sound. That was one of our priorities in making this, Great Quality Audio. So the fact that you pointed that out means a lot! Thank you!!
What camera did you use for this recording? audio sounds great man! ive been looking for a camera that has good mic like this to record stuff like this! what camera ( mic atts, did you use?
Thanks Jose! And Malcolm is right. It is not often that the stock mic of a camera will do better than one purchased separately. However, there are ways for you to connect your equipment together to make a great quality package for recording audio and video together. We are still working on upgrading our equipment, but we used a GoPro for all of the video (1080p 60fps) and an H4N for sound. We blended the audio from the GoPro and H4N together in Final Cut Pro to make audio with great contact sound and a supporting low end. The majority of editing went into the sound as some of the shots the mic was further away. Hope this helps!! Cheers!
Thank you! The Cadets were by far my favorite line of 2014, and were rather underrated for being the defending champs in percussion. Can't wait for the video!
It's amazing how precise Colin is when it comes to cleaning. The stuff that he hears is the smallest stuff that makes the biggest difference.
One of the best groups of all time, IMO.
Exactly!! This was a pretty special year, glad we caught it on tape!

i couldnt even imagine doing all of this with 4 hours of sleep. if thats true then that is insane.
I marched a world line and i was already dying after a full day. 3am?? That's amazing. I didnt like this show at all as a young teen but this is phenomenal to me now
That's what practice gets you I have very high respect for these guys I'm a freshman I marched 2nd base and I'm going for snare my sophmore year.
Awesome!! And YES, practice goes a long way! Good luck with your audition on snare! If you need (or want) any help, we actually write books that teach you how to strengthen your rudimental abilities. Check us out on thegridbookseries.com!

Loving the rehearsal etiquette. This video drives me even further to join drum corps.

Josh Howell did you do it
Yes, did u do it?
The audio quality is impeccable. Very much kudos to the guys who put this together.
Nice!! We actually worked pretty hard to make sure the audio was superior. So this really means a lot. Thank you!
Looking forward to further videos!
***** Thanks Nathan!
@ 37min. oh, that was dope! Close to seven years later... we still watching... absolutely dig this coverage -- (in February, thank you!!)
That means so much! Thank you! This is such a timeless line. One of the greats!
That smoke at the beginning of the warm up in Atlanta isn't coming from Colin's stogie; it's from the drumline's hands.
Just saw this comment and actually laughed out loud. Ha! Nice one!
Where is that in the video?
Wilhem Almodovar
Around the 40:00 minute mark
Right foot gets me EVERY time
"you guys are the best drumline in the country" yes they were (that year at least)
Holy Flams 2013 Cadets... Can't wait to see how 2014 turns out! Just in time to get me hyped for this season :) much love to grid book series!!
Sean Bowers A Day With The Cadets 2014 comes out on Sunday!!!!! So hyped to publish it! Thanks for the kudos Sean!

That guy at 47:41 had me dying! It's sad how many times I watched that part just for the scream.
I've been looking forward to this day
Lol, Yes!! Sorry it took so long!
This audio quality is fucking amazing. It's like being on the field. Nice.
Thank you!! We really try to get the audio right when we make these!! :)
Cheers!
Thank you for putting this out on my birthday!
Luke Zuniga Happy birthday
Being that it's 2021, this is still one of my favorites lines of all time. This shit is the cleanest thing I've ever heard and it's just ridiculous the notes they're playing!
Please, More content! cant get enough of this stuff man!
Thanks Blake! We are currently recording for online tutorials. Stay tuned!
This is a great video. I can have it on in the background while I'm doing my work and it's like I'm there on the field with them.
Thanks! That's why we do it!! We see it as a great way for people to engage with the activity if they can't make it out to see it live.
Happy Birthday Luke!!!! Enjoy!
this is just too inspiring
26:40 "Reset, not very good" LOL
Those tan lines must be great. And we just saw the Cadets at Hempfield high school! We actually changed some things around in pit like your set up
You guys got my name right on the first try! I have teachers who still can't do that. Thanks for the video!
Awesome! You're very welcome!!
Last High Percussion winning Cadets show
Basses casually start out the warm up lot with 4's lol
Ha, that guy's reaction at 47:41
Chris Watson is killing it tech'ing the bass line.

First warm up was awesome
I diggit. Thanks guys!
Thanks Alex! Great Job out there!!

yeah most of the individual corps dvd's are a waste of money.
The 2011 was worth the money. Very well produced. They should of never let that guy go
So we actually stayed at this school TWICE for the 23 season, crazy full circle.
8:57 I've never heard such strong overtones from snare tunings before
Favorite line ever!
Awesome bass line
2014 version on the way?!
Does anyone know if they're always an all guy drum line? Or where they're based out of? I would love to be on their bass line..
They are not all male, and they are based out of Allentown, Pennsylvania
Dustin is right! There are still some all male corps out there, but Cadets is not one of them. You should check out the Cadets website for more info on them:

you can join dca which is all ages.
+Enter name here If you're a freshmen in college you probably still have at least a couple years until you age out right?
What type of cameras are you using and program to video? It's pretty good quality, and awesome video to watch.

Great video! Did you do one for the 2014 season?

47:26 "GWUAP"
Was wondering why their feet seemed so weird then I remembered they start on right foot. Why must you be like this hopkins
I know a guy in cadets
AO
Tighten your snare bed. The sound is too wet coupled with fuzz on the rolls. Early in the season.
+jim edward I hope you're joking
All of the sudden that trap set drummer down the street in the jazz club doesn't look as amazing as you thought he was
tenors, careful not to drag the matrix from drum to drum.
lol justin
SCV > BD > Bluecoats > anyone else
2014 version on the way?!
Yes! We are working on the 2014 Video now!
Thank you! The Cadets were by far my favorite line of 2014, and were rather underrated for being the defending champs in percussion. Can't wait for the video!
