wow, there are just so many reps where the staff gives a critique and then it gets fixed the next time. that is what is so impressive about these top groups and what clearly separates them from the rest. Thank you so much for putting this together.
Actually made my line watch some of these videos and went over some good quotes and tips last year. It put us into a Drum Corp mentality and we won about 90% of the competitions we competed at.
That was one of the things we wanted to do this year with them! We felt the front needed some love! Spit is amazing and this shows some of their process. Thanks so much!
As an assistant section leader, wit over half of my line being new to marching band, some of the quotes in this video is of great help. Thanks GridBookSeries!
Thank you! :) It took a lot more than people think on the back end to make this happen! In fact, our professional audio source files (H4N) were deleted and we almost didn't put this out at all because the audio was not at the quality we are used to producing. But we figured the community would benefit more from the content. Thanks so much for the comment! This was one of the hardest projects we have ever worked on for various reasons unknown to the public.
Is it just me, or is the phrase before the step-off around 32:16 purposefully played out of time? It's clearly not metrically with the met, even after considering modulation etc. Am I crazy/is this intended?
You are not crazy! One of the things that, to me, makes Colin's direction special is that he does not force metronomic playing where it does not feel or sound musically appropriate. After all, the metronome really was developed as a means to establish consistency. If by pulling in and out of the metronome's time you can be equally consistent, but in a way that allows a phrase to breathe more organically why not do that? Why fight our natural musical tendency? There were several moments in this show, as I'm sure there are in others, that we would even pull the met out completely to allow for our natural interpretation of the music to come through. It was actually very effective. Hope that helps!
Thank you for the insight! Even in light of this, I can hardly imagine purposefully disjointing my hands and feet. I suppose this is completely due to my personal interpretation of what excellence in the activity is. I can't find a reason to allow a phrase to be metrically inconsistent when I have the mental fortitude to keep it as such. After looking closer, their feet remain in time while the hands are allowed metric freedom, followed by an out-of-time finishing statement, then back into 100% metric accuracy. Overall it feels awful and sloppy. What advantages does this hold over simply running it at a slower tempo where it's actually able to be played properly?
Austin Lovins I'm sorry to hear you feel it is awful and sloppy. Plenty of people would disagree, but that's the beauty of it!!! Can't please everyone. All we could do was put our best foot forward every day. All the best.
The GoPro's are on standard tripods from BestBuy. Not sure of the brand. But we have an adaptor we got from Amazon that connects the GoPro to a standard camera tripod.
Do you have any marching experiance? If so where? I don't know why you would think that way. I think the Blue Devils are much better than the Cadets as of right now. One of the reasons might be because they have 7 snare vets at BD this year, and the other 2 did RCC. And as far as your Cadets argument, I feel like all the Cadets focus on is business, and this video really proves it. By the end of the season I think they actually sound worse than the begining for reasons I can't explain. If I told you to find five pictures of BD members smiling, and Cadets members smiling, you would find it way easier to find the BD members, which I think directly correlates to the Corps success and playing ability. Even if everything I said is totally wrong, talk to the DCI Percussion judges, I think they would know better than either of us.
They are actually really talented people but i'm not saying that anyone that isn't in their drumline isn't talented i'm just saying the blue devils drumline those guys have a lot of chops!
Yeah, just go ahead and dogde my reasoning. and then come back with "the blue devils don't work nearly as hard as other corps." Have some logic and credibility to back up what your saying, because it just sounds like your biased as hell. Read my comment before, you might learn something.

I love how the pit tech taps off on a different instrument/surface like every time
That's me ngl
Why am I up at 3:00 AM? To watch this, of course.
aww im only up at 2:00 AM... but it is about an hour long and just starting it
As an incoming high school center snare / captain, I now have plenty of quotes and ideas to make the line become an overall more successful group.
Me too lol
Thank you! That is why make we these! Great to know this is helping you!
You missed a "make"/"produce" there ;)
Actually made my line watch some of these videos and went over some good quotes and tips last year. It put us into a Drum Corp mentality and we won about 90% of the competitions we competed at.
That is awesome! And great to hear! Thank you for the support and congratulations! :)
Omg the guy's walk at 34:38 is perfect😂😂😂👌🏾 Thank you GridBookSeries! You're amazing
My god . The xylo player has incredibly fast hands with those 9's.
I really appreciate the extensive front ensemble exposure. The pit rarely gets the limelight.
That was one of the things we wanted to do this year with them! We felt the front needed some love! Spit is amazing and this shows some of their process. Thanks so much!
Miss the Cadets...
55:10 "y'all are so good at quads!!!" 😂
As an assistant section leader, wit over half of my line being new to marching band, some of the quotes in this video is of great help. Thanks GridBookSeries!
IT IS FINALLY HERE!! Superb as usual.
Very cool to see how a top corps rehearse. Thank you for this!

Thank you for the wonderful pit footage.
So grateful for this video. It provides great insight into some impressive rehearsal and instructional techniques!
This video is really just ridiculous. So much great information, footage, and inspiration. Keep up the great work gents!!!
Great job Mark! This was a pleasure to watch 👍
Oh I've been getting so hyped for this
When are we going to see a day with SCV...?

Wow I miss marching watching these rehearsals. Nothing like some Drum-semble on a hot turf field in the middle of nowhere
Finally, thank you so much

So hyped!!!! Thanks
Now we wait for ADWT Santa Clara Vanguard ;)

I think they were just behind tempo. :/

Of course, not discrediting your achievements at all! Nothing but the best!
Thank you Grid Book
You are very welcome!!
FINALLY!!!! WOOOOOO
awesome video guys! Good job!
Thank you!!
Why did gridbook choose to show only (not Brass) Percussion for 2015 cadoots?
Because they were the best section.
Does Jim Ott ring any bells? Why no love for Brass?
This is a percussion focus video. We are a percussion education brand and all of our "A Day With" series videos focus specifically on percussion.
Fair enough.

Do you guys know what mets they're using? DB-90?
it sounds like one. DB-90s are great if you know how to use them.
oh yes its here
What tripod is that GoPro mounted on?
The GoPro's are on standard tripods from BestBuy. Not sure of the brand. But we have an adaptor we got from Amazon that connects the GoPro to a standard camera tripod.
which competition was this?
This was their rehearsal before the Atlanta regional.
You guys should do one about the blue devils drumline!
Why not?
are you joking? i hope so

+Ex Novus LOL DO you know where from?
Ex Novus that would be they are pants. "Their" is actually correct in this situation, as they possess the pants.
Anyone want to go through this and find all the motivational quotes for me?
40:00 is just a recording right
