The End of Time is an episode where the sum is less than the whole of it's parts. Which is to say that there's a lot of small things that work well (Wilfred, Rassilon, the Master, the Time Lord plot, the Ood prophecy, etc). But bring them together and they just do not mesh or mold at all. Especially trying to incorporate the Time Lords into all of this. There's no weight to them, no meaning, it's treated almost as if it's to be expected that the Time Lords are just 'around' still despite everything about em. Compare that to the reveal of Davros in The Stolen Earth, which gave him an ENORMOUS amount of gravitas in that moment.
Unfortunately I missed much of it when it was airing, but I did see an episode that kinda may have been planned to link a bit of this. When the Master returns, when he is still Yana, he talks about how, if the Doctor regenerates, why not him. As if he did not before, which we know he did, or as if there was a reason they were avoiding doing it that the audience is not privy to yet.
When I first started watching DW, I skipped 9 and started with 10 on a whim, and he became my top favorite incarnation. When I started my rewatch 2 years ago. Finally watching 9, and progressing halfway through 10, 10 REALLY fell below in my favorite spot and 9 has since taken it
@@captainpep3 My hangups about 10 is how he's full of himself but in a boring way like (make repetitive speeches and repetitive references) as well as smooching a lot of the ladies he comes across.
@@sammorin254 I wouldn’t really call his speeches repetitive, as for the romance, I get that but it never feels like it’s too much in my opinion. But hey, I get that different doctors hold different personalities that appeal more or less to others, I just don’t see how 10 could be considered bottom tier with the amount of incredible episodes he has, as well as the fact they made him feel the most “human” of any doctor. A lot of people don’t get his “I don’t want to go” line, including Andrew. He made a good video but his hostility towards 10 and the episode kinda came out of nowhere
@@captainpep3 the humanity might be a big turn off too for some people. Despite what the genre would imply, it's rare to get an alien main protagonist in sci-fi. 10 is definitely not my least favorite, but I get it. Is he your favorite? And yeah, lots of his stories are amazing.
The End of Time is a really weird episode, it's very messy and I don't often revisit it cause it has a very odd tone, imo. That being said, I didn't mind the farewell tour at the end of the episode. It really was the end of the era and it felt right to see everyone one last time. Knowing that RTD encouraged the BBC to continue the show after he and Tennant left really doesn't lend itself to the cynical read of how the episode played out. RTD has his faults, but I don't think he's petty like that. He worked with Moffat before and I'm sure he thought he was leaving the show in capable hands. Personally, I really didn't think anyone could top 10 as my favorite, I think his era is really strong. But Capaldi as 12 really surprised me. I was completely wowed by him as his era went on. He has the best character arc and Capaldi is so captivating in the role. I have a hard time ranking things, but 12 is definitely in the top 2 of my favorite Doctors. He and 10 just flip flop for first place constantly.
I'm gonna say, Tennant coming back is most likely a bit of a hail mary play to get people back into the show. Which I'm sure you already know. And while 10 is far from my favorite, some of his stories are some of my favorites, so I can't rank him at the bottom. My pick would be 13, because she was just botched, and that's sad as the first female incarnation. I'm not gonna go into detail here though, that would just be too much. 😅
(Paraphrasing)"The BBC were considering cancelling the show after Tennant and Davies moved on..." Yeeeeeaaaaaahhhhhh, they REALLY should have done that.
How does this only have 986 views 💀 this is brilliant!

Well what do you know, you’re an FFF, Halo fan, and Whovian.
I’m surprised you consider the 10th doctor bottom tier when you have the 13th doctor to compare him to
It's just personal preference.
@@AndrewBluett that’s fair, I just don’t really get what’s so hateable about 10, especially with the episodes in the 10th era

10th doctor is my favourite and yet I enjoyed this a lot. Great video essay! I think the end of time is neat because I like my own suffering ?
