Great video, as always. I think your results prove that, no matter how saturated a market is, there's always room for photos that haven't been taken yet. Many buyers are willing to scroll until they get the exact photo they want, and that photo could be yours. So never feel discouraged by how many photos or videos are in a particular category.
Hi Andrew, it's very interesting to hear about your images that have done well on SS. Sadly, the rpd at SS seems to be going down. I have just over 1000 images in my portfolio at SS and had only 73 downloads to date this year. Most of the images have had only 10c commission. Their rpd for videos at SS has also has gone quite low compared to what I used to receive from P5. But that agency seems to have become virtually inactive in the last few months. So, I think you are right about the market being saturated. Some contributors on UA-cam have been reporting good sales of AI generated images. So, definitely change is in the air.
yes unfortunately the agencies are getting fewer and the comissions are going to subscription. Large sales still happen but the industry has shrunk and the big players are snapping up the little ones. P5 was purchased by ss I believe, hence no more sales ... opportunities are still there but the market is in rapid change.
Great video! We have the same struggles. I often ask my gf to hold something or pose for the camera, and she is always fine with that, as long as she is not recognizable, and many of those shots are between my best sellers.
Thanks for sharing Andrew, much appreciated. In my opinion you should focus on taking photographs of what brings you pleasure and if that's classic cars, take more of that subject. They seem to sell quite well too!
Hi Andrew! Very good job and nice video as always. However, I do not agree that people's photos are necessary to grow. I've grown my portfolio to ~3700 pictures now, I have consistent grow, with 200+ downloads a month, just with travel photography. I don't photograph people and I am not going to. In my opinion it is better to built your portfolio with the type of photography that you like, rather than pushing yourself for what is not your cup of tea. Cheers :)
what a breath of fresh air it is to read this Aleksandra. And it gives hope to those of us who are not into people pics. I am happy to be proven wrong !
hello Sir ans thanks for your insights! i am wondering if the W van's photos were editorial ones? and, also it's interesting why shuterstock can sell it for 1.4K or 0.25 how that happens? Thank you.
Thanks for your thoughts, yes editorial. the 1.4k was my lifestime of sales for that pic. And 0.25 cents is perhaps a subscription price but they can sell for more and less!
Hi Andrew hope you are well. How is the new year treating you? I on the other hand don't know what's going on with shutterstock but smth strange has happened! As soon as December hit they are accepting nearly every photo I am uploading but no sales! Shutterstock has accepted around 300-400 photos and 50 video clips since November but it's been 3 months nearly no sales at all! Frankly I got a little discouraged and I am slowing down my uploads cause this is depressing!
@@andrewbalcombe1338 Oh you would do that for me? Thanks it means a lot!! The thing is I want to stay anonymous on youtube so where else can I send you the name of my shutterstock? Instagram maybe, or facebook, email? I don't know where is it ok for you? PS: sorry for responding so late I have been very busy lately and I just had the time to see your response!
@@andrewbalcombe1338 I thought I wrote a reply comment but now I don't see it here! Has it been deleted or smth!? Hi, it probably didn't get through if you put in a url or link. YT don't like those in the comments. Hit me up on insta @balcombeandrew@@MysticalJessica
I am curious. Haven't received my sale results for Istock for Feb yet ( on the mobile app). On the website there is negative sales for some of my assets. Not sure why... Anyone know why its like take?
A lot of people are reporting royalty refunds linked to Washington US, I'm not sure if it's a glitch in the system or someting deeper. I haven't experienced it before. I have at least a dozen such royalty refunds for February. Not good at all.
@@andrewbalcombe1338 Thanks, I see mine is also Washington sales. Its weird, and now I have a negative earning for Feb, first time ever. Lets hope its just a glitch.

Thanks Gareth. Yes, i'm constantly surprised how some pics still sell in this competitive market.

Yes, it's not easy but i'll try and dip my toes into people images and just give it a try. I'll start with myself as the model 🙂
Great as always Andrew
Many thanks for that!

I sure hope the car manufactures have more important things to worry about than Andrew. Thanks!
I hope so too Jeff. I really enjoy photographing the old clssic cars.I wouldn't want to have to stop.
