One of the best things about this video is that you actually say wrench size so that I don't have to grab a handful of sockets and wrenches when I'm already laying on hot cement
I have an '08 GMC Yukon XL I was raised on preventive maintenance and care and my truck is proof that it works, 212k miles later and you can barely hear her idling and still has great compression
You deserve an award sir for your video. Very much appreciated. Was very helpful and as with others you helped me save time and money. Thank you for sharing.
Great video. Your camera angles clearly show what is happening and the components involved, much better than others. About to do both belts on 02 Tahoe with 410,000 kms on it!
thanks for the video Rick....My belt is super loose and AC just died on my 2003 Chevy Avalanche...Looks very similar to your Tahoe. Wish me luck. I got a new Belt and tensioner..Hopefully that fixes it
Thank you for this! Lift videos are worthless to the average person but in the future I see a way to do this without the hastle of removing the belts. The way that tensioner is it would be pretty easy to pop the belt to the side and take it off.
i was driving on the highway and my ac went our out of nowhere stopped and looked at the comoressor there was no belt there do ac belts snap? out of nowhere or is the compresor bad too?
Rick, When it’s that Hot out you should use the air recirculate button to keep the air you already cooled in the vehicle. I see you cranked the vents to 5 but we’re using Hot outside intake air.
rickafix the noise is coming from the pulley that tuns to the compressor. sounds like metal on metal while the car runs. when I accelerate, it sounds like plastic is being hit
Dominic Wilkerson well then it prob the bearing in the clutch of the compressor...those can be replaced but usually easier replacing the whole compressor
Dominic Wilkerson you can get a compressor 120ish pepboys always have 20 -35% off if you buy online and pick up at the store...but then you got to ad Freon / bleed the old system / dry it out which you can rent that vacuum for free .. its a tough call...does your ac work good? are you positive it coming from there and not another pulley or the fan clutch?
Wait.. are you saying your BEST GAS MILAGE B4 THIS was 14MPG?!! Oh my! I bot a 2000 Silverado off a guy whose garage looked like a SPOTLESS Auto Parts Store! It ran like a dream & I've got on average 23MPG for the last 4 years! (AT 20 YEARS OLD!!) I bragged a little too much about it & a neighbor taught me why the word HATER started being used WHEN HE DOSED MY GAS WITH 2 GALLONS OF WATER!! Then when it STILL WOULDNT DIE.. HE DOSED IT AGAIN!! (I think with SODA!!) I went from accidentally starting it when it was running (cuz she was SOOOO QUITE!) to now getting 9MPG, MISFIRES & BACKFIRING. Thanks Ann Flagella & James Keene may the evil you send out come back to you times 10!! HATERS!
yes you can do it...if you get stuck just ask me a question...it is not a big deal...once the old belt is off spin the tensionor and the ac compressor to find the sequel...you also have 2 other tensionors that are on that same belt could be from those as well
RICKAFIX Only one tensioner per belt. So that’s a total of two belt tensioners and two belts. You might have meant pulleys which there can be several pulleys depends on which belt your talking about.
Great video, I changed mine but the new tensioner is still squealing and making this grinding noise every time I accelerate. Anyone know what it might be?
N Martin thank you brother, make sure to get the one made from the US or Canada. The first one I got was from China and it was bad. I ended up doing the whole ac system shortly after I changed the tensioner. I sold her around 3 weeks ago (2003 Tahoe 5.3) one of the best trucks I’ve had so far.
Hi can some buddy help me I have a 2003 Chevy Tahoe and I replace the belt only pass 3 days and the belt broken any buddy know if it’s for bad tensioner please help!!!!!!!
Thanks Rick.....im doing mine tomorrow. I've got 235,000 on my 2001 Yukon XL and she still runs like a Champ....only had a few issues with her....im a Firm believer of "You take care of your vehicle, and it will take care of you". *Question: @ 2:15-2:40 there l@@ks to be a ''crack' on something attached to your frame next to that bolt on the video ? It's on the closest view of your video. Just a note, didn't know what that was.
I think that the old frame of the pulley had a gap at the base and it looks like a crack..now I am going to have to look at it tomorrow lol but I think thats what it was
Hey Rick....if you stop it at 3:20, you can see in the upper left hand 1/4 of the screen closest to the camera a 'crack' on something? Got my a/c fixed today...Was So worried it was going to be a compressor. I knew i needed the belt replaced, and had them check my pressure and my schrader stems/valves were leaking also. Glad i got that changed before i head to Atlanta this weekend. Where in Florida do you visit ? I've spent A-lot of time in the Sarasota/Tampa area....Reeeeally miss the Gulf.
I see it now...that is the sway bar bushing..hmmm going to have to take a look at that, but i think it is split to install it but I will find out for sure...excellent observation for sure
Dominic Wilkerson Try using a wooden stick like a cut off broom handle about 4 1/2 ‘ feet long and while the engine is running press one end of the stick near each Pulley (on a none moving area of course) and put your ear against the other end of the stick and listen for excessive noise but you’re bound to hear some noise you’ll know if it’s bad or not. Use the stick just like the doctor uses his stethoscope. ⚠️ But please be careful of the moving belt and pulleys, also no loose clothing or long hair near the moving parts! Note: I bought a nice wooden stick at Home Depot just for checking things like this it’s about 1” in diameter and about 4 1/2’ Long.
Thanks for the help. Replaced the AC tensioner and new AC belt. 2004 Tahoe Z71 - 216453 miles, 16 years, not bad.
Not bad mine when out today at 240,234

So I never changed out the tensioner or ax belt in my life and your video helped me get that done. Thank you!!
Glad it was an easy fix for you Rick and not an expensive compressor. Have a good one!
stuzman52 50 dollar fix for aircon can't beat that
Great video. Your camera angles clearly show what is happening and the components involved, much better than others. About to do both belts on 02 Tahoe with 410,000 kms on it!
"I'm proud of the quality of who made this in China." Haha that's great but sadly true! Good to see you're making videos again.
Mitchell Kirkland thanks michell
Chevy parts normally are made in Mexico

God bless you and thanks. This helped me diagnose and solve the problem with my 04 Silverado
Excellent Video
222,666 and still going STRONG!!!!!
That's because he buys Chevy!!!
LIKE A ROCK!!!
Sorry about my ignorance but how or why is the tensioner keep u from getting that cold air? What’s the tensioner purpose besides hold up the belt
no belt, no a/c compressor operation, needs tight belt, so need tensioner
Great video!!! This helped me get back on the road real fast!!!!
Really excellent video thanks for your help and the hard work to put this together God bless
Great video very simple and right to the point!
Just got it fixed now, thank you for the video. It was super easy except for that one hidden bolt. Got it done in 30 mins though, I feel proud
Did it jump back off
Perfect! Thanks a million for the video!!
thanks for the video Rick....My belt is super loose and AC just died on my 2003 Chevy Avalanche...Looks very similar to your Tahoe. Wish me luck. I got a new Belt and tensioner..Hopefully that fixes it
Great video! i was able to see everything.
Great video just did mine and it was that simple fix
Thanks for the video. Helped a lot.
I personally know the Chinese child that made that tensioner. I'll let her know you were pleased. Great video, btw. Saved my bacon!

I have a 02 tahoe I've replaced the pulley a couple times and my belt but no matter what it keeps busting my ac belt any answers?
Thanks pal. This helped me out. Praise the Lord!

Awesome video

Can confirm, 100%, this works. I just used this comment to try it that way and if you're not replacing the belt, it's the way to go
Hey boss this will work for a 2003 GMC Yukon Denali?
👍
Thank you sir!!
Does anyone have a part number for the tensioner?? My 2010 Silverado doesn’t even have this part installed on it
Very good job, thank you very much, nice video 🔝👍🏻
your welcome Andrea
i was driving on the highway and my ac went our out of nowhere stopped and looked at the comoressor there was no belt there do ac belts snap? out of nowhere or is the compresor bad too?
Look up gmc service bulletin 03-01-38-019A. Replacing my tensioner and came across this. Bad design by gmc apparently.
Nice job doing mine right now, Thanks for posting
your welcome Rockie
Did it fix your problem???
Rick, When it’s that Hot out you should use the air recirculate button to keep the air you already cooled in the vehicle. I see you cranked the vents to 5 but we’re using Hot outside intake air.
he was just testing that it worked
ok thank you

Which is cheaper?

Let’s go kick their ass!
thanks I'm a girl hope I can do this the squealing is horrible in the video
Did you put the belt around the tensioner or
yes you can do it...if you get stuck just ask me a question...it is not a big deal...once the old belt is off spin the tensionor and the ac compressor to find the sequel...you also have 2 other tensionors that are on that same belt could be from those as well

theBro55 - a crappy poorly assembled tensioner?
N Martin yes and also they sold me a longer ac belt. Changed both and it went away.
theBro55 Glad you were able to make it go away. I just bought a belt. Haven’t checked the tensioner pulley yet.
I guess you found your whirling problem! ☺👍
Great video. I hate videos who put cars on a shop lift. Like how many people have a freakin shop lift at home?
+prentiss mcaster agreed lol
I’ll be doing this tomorrow.
Nice job on the video. 😎👍👍
Hi can some buddy help me I have a 2003 Chevy Tahoe and I replace the belt only pass 3 days and the belt broken any buddy know if it’s for bad tensioner please help!!!!!!!

Mine keeps jumping off
2010 Tahoe AC tension replacement
When did the car start it’s so quiet
Mine just started squalling at 214,700 miles…
If it lasted 15 years and it is made in China I would be happy with it, a bad part would last a month at the most!.
How long did the whole process take?
Still happy with China? Lol 😂
I have replaced the compressor belt and pulley, and still getting a rattling noise when I accelerate. any idea???
Dominic Wilkerson you have two other pulleys on the serpentine belt.. loosen the belt and spin them and see which one is bad
Dominic Wilkerson
Try using a wooden stick like a cut off broom handle about
