"Bite me!!" Preach girl!!! We waste so much time trying to not upset any one. It's about time we all take back our lives and live them the way we choose not how society dictates they should be.
Oh my gosh I just love you! I turned 60 in June so believe me when I say- YES! Let go - be happy in the moment where you are - be thankful. Happy birthday beautiful you - it only gets better🥳🍾🥂💖 Xo 🇨🇦
I'll be 46 in a few short weeks and here are two more things that I advise EVERYONE to quit: ○ Quit worrying. Nothing changes when you worry. Nothing! The thing you're worried about will still either happen or not happen, and I assure you that your worrying won't affect the outcome. ○ Quit opting out of photos because you think you look bad. You are missing out on being a part of a future memory... a moment that, when you are no longer here, the photo captured a moment in your life, and you won't be in it. Your kids and grandkids won't look back and think, "Wow, Mom looked so terrible here." They'll see your smile and remember it fondly. Let them have those moments. ♥
@@BobbiMac08 nowadays you can set your phone to take it all by itself with a delayed timer so you can be the picture taker and still be a part of the picture
71 now. I am much more of a quitter nowadays not because I am bored or lose interest, but because my spurts of energy are few and far between. So, this period of my life requires PATIENCE 😊
I turn 39 next month and my kids will be 3 & 1 when I do. Being an older mom has been a trial. I don't have the energy levels these younger moms with the same age kiddos do. But trying to remind myself that these are my kids (as difficult as they are) and my life. Comparison is the thief of joy.
Older mums have different advantages. You may not be able physically as you would have been earlier in life.. but emotionally you're definitely having an advantage. 😉❤️ Keep up the good work, mama!
Being ADHD and being able to focus on many different things at once is which made me a good ICU and good emergency department nurse. I have found with ADHD if I played at my strengths, it can really be an asset.
Happy Birthday! What a special young lady you are (I am almost 70, so yes 40 is YOUNG!) you have such a gift of expressing life lessons in unique ways. Thanks for sharing your life and family to help others. Be blessed!
ANGELA!! I gotta thank you so so much for this video! I am a 64 year old people-pleaser and rule-follower and gap-focuser but in the last year I’ve been working and struggling with changing that. You are always so well-spoken and fun to watch, but THIS video is so meaningful to me….every single point! You’re a beautiful soul! Thank you!
Happy 40th! I just turned 40 in the last 6 months and just celebrated 19 years of marriage too. Our oldest (of 6) turns 18 in March and at our baby’s next b-day she will be 5 too! Needless to say I get ALL of this! Very thankful for the encouragement, reminders, and support you share ❤!
You go girl!! I will be 54 in one month and wish I had learned much of what you are saying years ago! You are amazing and beautiful. Thank you for sharing.
Every time I feel sort of down or lost I come to your channel and watch a video. Definitely needed this one! I’ll be 30 in Feb and just started working out again. I’m slowly building new habits for my little family and I. 🧡
Welcome! I quit doing a ton of things. The biggest being, doing things because others expected me to. This resulted in moving house, quitting a club that my family had been members of for decades, switching jobs. It feels so good on the other side! My 50s have been even better!!!
You’re going to love your 40’s! I think they were one of my best decades. You still look and feel pretty dang good. You’ve figured out who you are and have your tribe. Your relationship is probably pretty stabile. Work life you’ve finally made it off the peon list and finally have a smidge of clout and at least some respect from bosses and co-workers. The kids are getting more and more independent. The grunt work of parenting, like diaper changes and 2am feedings, giving baths after dinner is winding down. You see your kids as these fascinating people who have real opinions about the world and friends and a life that exists outside of the realm that you’re in. It’s just the age of confidence and getting back to yourself a little. And seeing your kids in a whole new light. Happy Birthday Angie! And Happy 40’s!!!
Angela thank you !!!!!! I’m 73 and after this video I am going to start using my beautiful dishes instead of using paper plates, like you I have pretty cups and instead of grabbing the same old mug I will use it. Self care is so important to pamper yourself. You always have such great insight on so much, being a people pleaser is so hard to change. I want to but it comes so automatic to never say no. You are my inspiration and thank you ❤❤❤❤ Happy Birthday sweet and funny lady you are amazing 🤩
To be 40 (sigh)....approaching months into turning 50 and I agree with all of this and more of my personal list. I think aging is such a blessing and we tend to fall into our usual habit (naturally) and conditioning (naturally) but it's also challenging when you see your life has to grow, evolve and shift with time and age. I'm overly accommodating for my little family, to a fault, and I've had to struggle for years trying to put myself at the forefront of my own importance because I'm a people pleaser and want everyone around me happy. Well, that backfires when I'm not placing time, energy and love into myself with the same level of care and importance. It's a learned behavior, I guess, my mom was the same. I saw her raise us with so much care, love and attentiveness to ensure we were healthy and happy. It's a process....hope all of us here can find grace in the time we need to see progress in our journey of life. Thank you for sharing and I think you having this amazing channel is a beautiful example of you showing up and putting in the work - we appreciate you because you bring a lot of valuable content here for us to enjoy. God bless.
YES! Taking inspiration from this video! Also, love Trainwell. 12/7/2023 was my first workout with them, and I love this app, my coach is amazing. They really do meet you where your fitness level is to not be intimidated. Slow and steady wins the race each time.
I just turned 40 as well. I really appreciated this video. Not just because I am also 40 now, but because so much of this rang true for me too. Thank you! ❤
So good!! I love your personality, that's why we're here, girl!! I'm almost 50, life is good, just married the love of my life! These are the good old days, as my grandpa used to say. Good idea to work on strength training, things are changing that way for me and it is surprising! Gonna try to follow suit. Most of all being grateful for what you have, where you are in life is the kiss of life. There are downsides to every stage, keeping my sense or humor and gratefulness helps me keep on the right side of things, a merry heart truly does have a continual feast!
Happy Birthday sweet lady. You are an inspiration to many. I remember my forties. I just turned seventy this year. I would love to be forty again. And have the knowledge I have now. The only complaint I have at seventy is not having the energy or stamina I once had. But still feel very blessed. I have some difficulty with arthritis, lots of pain. But if you don’t move it, you loose it. Just want to say, I love your u tube channel. Look forward when you post. You have a beautiful family. Have a great year, and enjoy everyday.
The benefit of eliciting a strong reaction is you get to “find your people” (followers). Anyone who doesn’t enjoy who you are is welcome to move on. There is no reason to dim your light for people with a low-vibe.
I'm with you on so many of these points! I'll be 40 in April and have been kinda dreading it. Not anymore! Thank you so much for this video. I've also been thinking about starting a UA-cam channel. I think I'm just gonna go for it!
Oh golly, sweet Angie! If they don't like you, or if all one person can do is be ugly...kick them off! It amazes me how people on UA-cam always get such negative comments. What ever happened to "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all?" You go sweet girl! I don't say much on UA-cam, but I did want to wish you a very happy 40! My early 40's were the best time of my life! Then came perimenopause, then full blown menopause! Whew! 65, and I am still hot! 🤪 But life is wonderful! Love this time, Precious!
My husband and I both disabled our social media accounts two weeks ago (all but UA-cam 😅). I feel like it’s helped us with just about all of what you just said! I still have 2 years to 40, but all of this video is so true!
Ride the penny horse till it dies😂. I’m a year of 50 and LOVE getting older. You are more confident and more appreciative of the things that matter. Your suggestion to focus on the gain and not the gap is fabulous. I’ll try!
Fantastic video!! I love your advice about people pleasing...I'm 68! Am still trying to not let "unlikers" get to me. I'll keep trying not to let it get to me.. Thankyou!! Xxx love from Cornwall, UK
I'll be 40 in December. I'd also like to quit quitting. It's hard keep something up when I jump in so wholeheartedly when it sparks my interest that I, seemingly inevitably, get burned out or bored with it after a while.
42 year old ADHD gal here! It's so true - you turn 40 and something shifts. My life literally fell apart and it was the hardest year of my life and THE BEST YEAR. I've completed so many goals since then, because I focused on creating true joy for myself. I LOVE the 40's so far. It really gets better.
First off, Happy birthday, Angela!!! Thanks for the encouragement! Im right there with you! I feel as if I'm ready to fully live my life and accept imperfections!
You are so right about the gatekeepers. I have allowed them to prevent me from expanding my experiences and trying new things. NO MORE!!! Thank You!!!!
I’m much much older than you. I’ve found with each decade birthday there’s things I prioritize and things that get set aside. Right now it all about ce,enraging healing g a d honestly being so much more selective about who is in my life. Yes it’s a bit risky. I’m worth bring able to live peacefully without drama. The world is more crazy than ever in my life. Like you said you’ll do what works for you and your family. Happy 40th and may you continue to go and grow.
😂 “one trick pony” and “ride that dime store pony til it quits”- best thing I have heard! At 62, this entire video resonates with me and I am still working on myself with these rules. Be of my daughter’s is a “speech” gatekeeper as in “Mom, you can’t say that!” Or “Mom, really, you had to voice that?”, she will be 38 this year and free speech policing her her thing- heh, she can be a gatekeeper, that’s her life but mine is mine and I have learned that I have to live with MYSELF not for others, though my husband, children and grandchildren are worth living for but not where I will lose me. And that’s the biggest lesson I have learned, do not lose you to spouse, family, job, others expectations: your spouse married YOU, not someone else; your children were blessed to have YOU as a parent; extended family love YOU despite your flaws (and if they don’t, then their loss; the job is lucky to have YOU even though you may be outspoken (yup, that’s me! And I know they can replace me but advocating for my patient’s is part of my job so there is that); and others who are exposed to YOU can choose to stay in your light or not. Be YOU, though be cognizant of others, their personalities, likes and dislikes, because even YOU will have regrets when you intentionally or unintentionally hurt feelings or insult someone.
I am 62 as well. Well spoken. That’s it, all on point! We cannot be door mats and it doesn’t matter what anyone thinks about us, we stand our ground. We speak gracefully and respectfully. We have earned it, to live our lives in peace, and if you don’t like it. Leave!!!
I'm 46 and, other than menopause, it just gets better! I dont have ADHD, and rarely quit, i learnt to quit when i needed to and focus on the thibgs i love doing.
Great advice Angela! One of my clients got my The Gap and The Gain for Christmas last year and it’s one of my favorite reads from 2024. Mindset changing for sure. ❤
Happy Birthday Angela. You bring happiness and great info to so many of us. I remember that moment of “ i don’t have to feel bad about someone’s words concerning me.” Just because they say it does not make it True! And i just started your book😊📖
First time watching your content. So refreshing! Your messaging describes the way I like to live…..I unapologetically will be myself, but with kindness and respect for others to do the same.
I'll be 40 on the 31st!..and I can so relate!.. I loved the "bite me" about the center "butt cut" part😆.. I look horrible with a center part & refuse! Thanks for this video, I've kinda been in denial/loathing turning 40 because so much of my life doesn't look like I originally planned (not bad but different) and it's nice to shift my perspective ❤
I didn't feel differently when I turned 40. I'll be 41 soon. I hope you had a very happy birthday!! I hope you'll love your forties! I hadn't known you wrote a book. That's cool. Yeah, I grew up being the weird kid that was mocked so I learned early on to be okay with not being liked, but to like myself and that it would draw people in, which works still. I never heard of this "gatekeeping" term. Oh yeah, as a minimalist, I don't have a rule book like a lot of others since everyone comes from it in a different way and such. You're doing great.
Oh if only I could have stopped worrying earlier. You are so right ❤ I follow you because you consistently present as a highly intelligent woman who thinks deeply and shares words and thoughts of wisdom. You also make me laugh 😂 I’m so glad to hear you are breaking away from riding the darn pony and listening to the gatekeepers. Your authentic community loves you and doesn’t need to agree with everything you share. You love us to think for ourselves as much as you do 🎉 you rock you gorgeous woman!!!!
Angie, I've been following you almost since the beginning (long before I got diagnosed with ADHD) and I really admire that you now feel safe to talk about your ADHD. ADHD is all about following the dopamine and then finding ways to create dopamine in that task/situation when it runs out. But it's okay if you can't do it all, getting neurospicy burnt out is really, really not fun! It took me a year and half to recover from it. So don't do that!
I'm 46 and can relate wih so much! It's like 40's change your way of thinking. I guess we just don't stress or give importance to many things as much as we did before. Not to be selfish, but I think more about myself. My peace of mind and well being are priorities.
Happy Birthday! I ❤ you! I have been watching since right before Benji was born. You are right, time has flown. I have ADHD too. I have loved 99% of your content. I aspire to be like you. Much Love to one Angie from an Angie 😊
I found you are amazing, creative, intelligent, you give inspiration to be a better mom, educator, homemaker...❤ I can't imagine somebody not like you😂
Welcome to 40! I turned 40 in June and and it honestly flipped a switch in my head on many of your points. Something about it just is calming... Besides that my youngest starts highschool. That's not calming 😂.
Soooooooo much about this hits home! I’m so over all of what is literally shoved down our throats. I can’t do it anymore. Life is too short to try to make anyone else happy EXCEPT OURSELVES! I’m turning 65 this November. I’m going to live the rest of this life I get ignoring what people say about me and living my life to make me happy. 64 years of trying to make others happy and not rock the boat has been exhausting. As long as my husband and kids love me for who I am, that’s enough. I am enough. And so are all of you! 🤍🫶🏻🤍 #loveyourself
Just turned 40 this year as well! As a recovering people pleaser 😅 I’ve the biggest thing that has helped was the realization that people pleasing is idol worship. Whaaat??!! Gross! Thankful to the Lord for showing me the truth. Love your journey!
The fashion thing resonates certain pieces of jewelry I like I wouldn’t wear because they aren’t “in” anymore now I don’t care I wear the earring the bracelets whatever it is I like without a care 😊
Thank you for this video. I just turned 30 on Sunday and feel quite sad about it but I guess it's my time to change whatever needs to be changed....like the things mentioned in this video. Happy Belated Birthday.
I love this. Right on, sister! 💯 ✨❤️ I always say something happened when I hit 30 (I'm 36 now) and it's similar things to what you just said. I've been following you on UA-cam for probably about 10 years at this point and have just so enjoyed the growth, I've been growing right along with you. 😉 I've loved my 30s and you're making me think the 40s will be even better. AND my oldest daughter is also turning 18 in January. 😭 So many feelings about that. She will be graduating at the end of this school year, we've been homeschooling since the beginning. wild times over here!
I really struggle with living “in the gap.” I feel like it does have to do with ADHD. I quickly forget the victories I’ve won, and only focus on what’s next.
It isn't often I hear a westerner describe the Eastern philosophy of ikigai so well. Point three encapsulates the essence beautifully. Finding the "beauty in my day, extra added beauty" "just for the sKe of it".
I had to come to terms with people not liking me within the last couple years. Had a good friend who claimed I did something terrible to hurt them but refused to tell me what it was. She said she forgave me but she was going to keep me at arm's length. A really strange position to be in since we sit across from her at church each week and she pretty much ignores me. It's a bit awkward at times but I keep reminding myself that I'm just going to be my normal self and at this point The ball is in her court. I'm sure there are a lot more less obvious instances of people not liking us but this one came to mind because it was so on the nose. nothing like this has ever happened to me before. I really like being around people and I truly can't think of anything I might have said or done that would make her react this way. Oh well. 🤷🏻♀️
at 40 years old it was time to finally quit these 7 things once and for all - and no matter your age, you can quit these things too!

Me too.

I'll be 46 in a few short weeks and here are two more things that I advise EVERYONE to quit:
○ Quit worrying.
I’m 71. There are literal decades of family pics without me. Opt in, best advice.
I'm 46 and realizing just how many pictures I'm not in. Family has come to just assume that I'll be the picture taker(otherwise, no one takes any🫤).
@@BobbiMac08 nowadays you can set your phone to take it all by itself with a delayed timer so you can be the picture taker and still be a part of the picture
@kirstyngregory Yes, I do that when I can have something to set it on. I usually just choose not to be in the pictures, which I need to quit doing.
So true about the pics!!
Not caring what people think (much!) anymore is one of the BEST parts of getting older! It's a huge relief and source of freedom. :)

When I turned 40 I was nervous and sort of insecure.
Soon turning 50 and feeling great!
My mum said at 40 your bullsh@t tolerance level just drops. Im 3 years off and i can feel it dropping by the day lol
Haaaahahaha so real
I'm pretty sure at perimenopause your T jumps and it's easy to get super aggressive. Lol Stay kind!

Your suggestion to focus on the gain and not the gap is fabulous. I’ll try!
Love the rituals vs the habits! Apparently, I’ve been doing rituals and didn’t know it. 😉
Fantastic video!!
I love your advice about people pleasing...I'm 68! Am still trying to not let "unlikers" get to me. I'll keep trying not to let it get to me..
Thankyou!! Xxx love from Cornwall, UK
I'm only in my early thirties and I agree. I have come to this mind too. Work with myself not against myself💜
HELL YEAH! i love everything you said. You are such a beautiful soul and I love you!
I dont have ADHD, and rarely quit, i learnt to quit when i needed to and focus on the thibgs i love doing.
turning 40 is AWESOME, such a relief.
You are a beautiful soul and this is an incredible video, everything you said has resonated with me , particularly about gate keepers , thank you
Great advice Angela! One of my clients got my The Gap and The Gain for Christmas last year and it’s one of my favorite reads from 2024. Mindset changing for sure. ❤
Good for you! I feel like I got to the stage of really noticing the "Bite me!" phase in my fifties, not fifties.
I’m so happy to hear you talk about regrets…thank you for your perspective on them ❤
I'll be 40 on the 31st!..and I can so relate!..
Turned 40 in june. Its so true! I've simplified my life.
I turned 40 in may, and my oldest turns 17 in november and my youngest turns 4 in February next year. Love from mom of four from Bosnia ❤
Love your personality! It's refreshing 😊
Happy birthday beautiful lady!❤
Soooooo much of this hit home with me Angela! I will be 35 in a couple months and this definitely motivated me to make some changes!! Thank you 😘
Oh if only I could have stopped worrying earlier.
I’m new to your channel, but I’m really glad I came across your video this morning. Thank you for the message you delivered.
Thank you for making me look forward to turning 40 in December. I was dreading it frankly and now I’m thinking it’s time to be more kind to myself 😅
Thank you!! I needed to hear all this today!
I think you’re a lovely person and ❤ watching your channel x
I turn 40 in 6 months and i have ADD. I feel like you looked into my life and made this video for me lol
Happiest of birthdays dear. Ps, that high ponytail in the thumbnail? Adorbs❤
The fact that you’re forty is absolutely mind blowing!!
What’s made the biggest difference in your skincare? You look INSANELY gorgeous!!!!!
Just found and subscribed to your channel - it’s epic!
I really struggle with living “in the gap.” I feel like it does have to do with ADHD. I quickly forget the victories I’ve won, and only focus on what’s next.
Happy 40!❤ Best video ever 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🥰
I'm turning 45 on Saturday (the 17th), whew! I'm right here with ya on "quitting" some of these less desirable ways of thinking and living!
Happy Birthday Stranger!!!
Happy belated Ang. ❤❤❤
I so enjoy your videos. Thanks for sharing ❤
Happy Birthday! I am 44 this year and agree with your video today!
It isn't often I hear a westerner describe the Eastern philosophy of ikigai so well. Point three encapsulates the essence beautifully. Finding the "beauty in my day, extra added beauty" "just for the sKe of it".
This is such great life advice!
I like your very cute personality ✨ You are a huge inspiration 💎 Happy 40th Birthday 💕
Oh well. 🤷🏻♀️
One of your best videos! ❤🎉
I just turned 30! 🥳 Happy Birthday to you!!
Such a great heap of wisdom here. Thanks so much.
Happy 40th!!! I just turned 40, too!
I think age is just a number...live your life to the fullest no matter what stage of life you might be in...
