Thank you for the “hot mess” analogy. So needed to be said and heard for the young women in today’s world wanting to be mothers but opting not to because of the pressure of validity in a W-2 vs validity in raising children and providing a nice home for them. Motherhood is the most noble of career choices!! Easy…no but what a benefit package!!!!
So many mothers think if they don’t put their kids in every single activity and throw massive birthday parties that they are a horrible mother. Kids don’t need All of that
@@nancyfarkas3592My DIL, for my grandson's last birthday (4) went to some play place/restaurant and had 20 kids. "Never again!!" was her remark after that. She also had the informal family BBQ and present opening the next day. That was the only one that I went to. She takes on a lot sometimes.....
We need to get back to a way for women to be able to raise their own children instead of hoping the schools don’t destroy their young little minds. Mine are young adults and I was always treated less than for being a full time Mom but they don’t realize how much better it is for the future of our world!
I had to make a very difficult decision about toxic extended family. I often wonder if I will one day regret that decision. This video made me think about the regrets that I have exchanged for that peace of mind. My children do not have to deal with a frequently emotionally devastated mother in the present. That's my priority and I will focus on that if future regrets ever try to creep in. Thank you!
Angela when you brought up the “hot mess mom” narrative it really resonated with me. I’m often told you “make it look so easy” or “you and the kids always look so put together” and it makes me uncomfy because I never want to feel like I’m not relatable, or for another mom to feel bad. I would always launch into my “don’t worry I’m a hot mess too” spiel, but lately I’ve been explaining that I just prioritize parenthood and life differently. there are certain things I don’t do or focus on as much that allow me more time in other areas. But you’re right, we also we need to stop acting like motherhood is this chaotic burdensome thing because it does affect how younger women see it and truly it so rewarding and worthwhile.
Angela! The idea of "choosing your regrets" resonated with me! You're absolutely right that we all will have regrets about different areas of our lives, but some regrets are better than the other! Thank you for talking about it!
🤣 "We were different people in the summer. When we were full of hope. And now we're burnt and crispy." Your humor is just my cup of tea. May the odds be ever in your favor this school year. - Katie
I agree with all of this ❤️ I especially resonated with the part about being discerning about the voices you’re letting influence you. That’s something I’ve been trying to work on for quite awhile. I had fallen into the habit in the morning of letting my kids watch a show while I would drink coffee and watch a few UA-cam videos. And you know what? That usually started my day with causing discontentment. You want to know how to feel behind, sorry for yourself, psycho analyzing your life? Watch a bunch of other people live theirs and tell you what you should be doing. One day I just felt so convicted about how I’m letting all of these voices into my head and neglecting the one voice I should be listing to (God). I definitely still fall into this habit and temptation, but I’m much more aware of it.
❤️❤️❤️ Love your commentary about the hot mess Mamma mentality. While it can be humorous, it can often give people the wrong idea of what a mom can be. I want to be capable and able to put in a good day's work taking care of my kids and my Homestead and not feel behind 24/7.
Thank you! This is excellent! Choosing goals is so important. I'm a life-long seamstress and dancer. But I get so overwhelmed trying to sew "all the things" and fit in three nights of dance rehearsals along with homeschooling and homemaking.😅 The narrative in many motherhood circles is constantly " take care of yourself, have me time" and in wise ways I try to do that. But I don't have to have all the "me time" I crave to be happy. My personal goals can wait sometimes. Time with my child is often more valuable than cranking out one more project "goal". Having breathing room in my schedule is more important than trying to do it all. I need to choose the best regret. And the regret is I didn't get all my creative time in, but I did have evenings with my family. Sitting down together being a family. I do take time to do things for myself, but I also CHOSE my child over my own hobbies. The " me time" narrative can be used and abused. Its not all bad, but anything can be taken too far. Thanks so much for this inspiring video.
I appreciate the way you talk and how you deliver this information. So helpful for me. I’m pretty new to recovery from drug addiction. I was on suboxone for 10years. It’s a maintenance drug. It served its purpose. But wow! Since coming off of it 4months ago, I’m actually wanting to create some kind of routine. I‘ve been ebing and flowing with routines. I had a great routine from January to April. I came off my sub in April and since, I’ll do well for a few days or week and then eb again. So I’m immersing myself into this content. To get those new neuro-pathways beaten into my brain. This is very very helpful for me!!! ❤❤❤❤
Loved the comment about simplifying goals and deciding which ones are important enough to keep. I'm with you on the hot mess mom thing too. We should want to strive for excellence as the Proverbs 31 woman. The Bible doesn't describe her as a mess, but as a model for an honorable way to be as a woman. To have your life together is not a bad thing and it's not something we need to be ashamed of. Of course, we all have hard moments, but we don't need to boast in those so much that it becomes the standard for living. What a great video! Thank you for bringing up the challenging points that are cluttering our lives.
I love that you mentioned that the “hair on fire” narrative can make people feel like being a wife and mother is miserable. I have been around so many moms that act this way, and generally they are carting their kids to baseball, then dance, then the next activity and all the while the child is miserable too! Before I became a mother, I thought that’s just what motherhood was. I always knew I wanted to be a mom, but I wasn’t looking forward to that part! In reality though, now that I am a mother, it is THE most beautiful part of my life. I never felt so much purpose and like I’m making a difference in the world like I do now. Motherhood is such a blessing!
I didn't realize it until listening to this, but this is exactly what I am doing with my long "to do lists", and that is why I always feel overwhelmed, like I never get anything done, and like I'm constantly failing. The expectations on myself are massive. I would LOVE if you made a dedicated video about getting out of this cycle of massive to do lists, because it's harder than I realized! I feel so reliant on them!
This will be on repeat! Thank you for being direct, yet gentle and caring in the reasonings behind what you shared. So on point. I appreciate and am grateful for your content. God’s blessings in Christ!
It’s about making conscious choices about what you watch or do for down time. Watching people like you inspire me xxx you are not mindless distraction 😂
This is seriously such a good video with extremely important information that anyone can use. I’m bookmarking this and always gonna come back to it when I feel like I’m in a rut. ❤
Great video. Shared on FB. My only note of differing opinion is that raising an only is vastly easier than raising a whole herd of kids. It absolutely depends on the kid or kids involved, their personalities, etc. This is a conversation I’ve had with many people. There are advantages and disadvantages to both only having 1 child and having 3-9 children. The biggest thing that is the same… being a Mom rocks!
I love this video, specially when you talked about us setting the example for our daughters. We must try to do it all in a happy and light way so we inspire them instead of scare them to be moms and wives. Than you Angela! 🙏❤️
I usually don’t listen to these types of videos but for some reason was drawn to yours and found it very useful. You’re honesty and explanations were great
Ah, morning routines, I agree with you, it sounds like a fairytale. I am a mother now, that means kids first and then I can enjoy coffee (if it is a extreme good day) 😆 it is 4 in the morning, one twin is up because she has diper rash (damn, tomato!!!!) and she needs comforting 🤷 I totally agree with you on debt, having too much stuff (decor, clothes) and always saying yes, uh, that can really distract our minds from other things in life which can improve our happines. Few days ago I make one promise for myself, I have to wear clothes that I already own, not buying a single item for a year! I have a dress for every occasion, glam and casual, size up and down, why purchasing new things? I fill up charts online too and when I look at sum price I put my phone down and go away, it suprising how many things I do not need and I forget about them. Tnx, Angie, another great video!
Thank you for your comments about the problems behind being sucked in to the phone tv etc. In my case you are right on. I am 77 years old next month and am really struggling with these distractions
Thank you! The comment on notifications and content consumption resonated with me! Didn’t know what i was going to do during my lunch break, but now I have a date to declutter my phone! Time is too valuable and i love what you stand for! ❤
This video felt like reassurance and validation of feelings I have been having. Everything you shared, I needed to hear. I watched to the end feeling more strengthened and encouraged as each moment passed. Thank you feels inadequate, but I am so grateful anyhow. Be blessed.
That is EXACTLY how I deal with impulse buying, I put it in the cart and look at it over and over and a few weeks later if I still feel I MUST it comes to me, but most if the time I delete out of my cart! On another note My daughter got married this last weekend on my Grandma's birthday. I know Heaven can't see earth but if it could my Grandma would be SO happy, Meg was always a favorite. I say all of that to explain there are some serious emotional issues you have to go through when you make the choice to be a mom!
Thanks for suggestion about mindlessly scrolling. I was doing thay, but decided to fold and put away towels while listening to this video. Thanks for putting content out like this. The phone is too much of a time waster. I have bought fill in the blank books and embroidery templates, in order to productive during my down time, instead of online. Thanks again!!!❤
Thank you for this! Everything you said is so true. I am looking forward to simplifying my life and my daily, weekly and monthly routines. I want to change my routines into rhythms and stop having such a busy schedule between work life, mom life, wife life and my own personal life. It’s all too much and we most definitely DO try to push ourselves too hard for too long to accomplish things that are time and energy suckers.
You are correct with social media and tv shows showing moms as a confused hot mess and are looked down on. There are to many “influencers telling you “don’t have children they will ruin your life” and motherhood is a useless life.
It feels so good to make sure and pay things off!! We have been and our credit score keeps going up. Such a good feeling. Debt is always something you need to do you need to take care of so it is a constant worry. So stressful…
"You have to choose your regrets." I love that. I am so good at all the things I am good at (which is a lot). Let's get our heads more confident. It is good.
Excellent lessons!! I am simplifying my life and mindset now that I'm retired; getting rid of clutter and fru fru extras; developing quality time. Got off Facebook and haven't missed it one bit.
You said a mouth full on all of the 13 ways to make it simple. I feel the same way. I don't even have a facebook, instagram or twitter account. The only reason I get on youtube is for homeschool. Also, when will you upload your homeschool picks for this year. Thank you for saying all of your info. We all need some words from others to help us some time because we might not want to admit it's the truth. Thanks.
This video made me turn off Instagram and fb notifications. They pop up everywhere! I also need to unfollow so many accounts that continue to highlight all the crap issues of the world that only serve to irritate me and make me angry…I don’t need to see that every day. Thankyou Angela for the timely reminder to focus on my family and my those around me ❤❤😊😊
There is so much wisdom here, thank you for sharing! Many are practices I have begun to implement over the past couple of years, but not all. I love especially how you framed the way we let our phones boss us around with notifications. I've gotten as far as ignoring the ones I don't care to spend time on, but even that can be exhausting! Will certainly be reexamining my settings to improve this. I also love how you clarified that morning and evening routines are often more of a flow than a rigid schedule. For those of us who are sensitive about not being lazy, it's easy to be hard on ourselves when we don't measure up to our goals...but the crucial piece (as you pointed out) is to examine these goals and make sure they are in fact realistic in relation to our big picture priorities. Wonderful video, thanks again and keep up the great work!
Really being honest with myself and decerning who is truly inspirational for me vs who is making me feel bad.. that's been really huge for me in mentally & emotionally
Hi my dear friend, you brought up a lot of great information in this chitchat and it is true. We need to start calming ourselves down enjoy life a little more and stop worrying about things so much just relax and enjoy our life in our family. We don’t need to have this big elaborate home and we don’t have to be constantly trying to impress people. Thanks so much for a great chitchat. Really enjoyed it. Hugs and kisses from grandma, Sandy, and Debbie.
On the last one, I have a chronic illness (okay more like a pile of them but lol) and I used to get really sucked into things and couldn't figure out why. When I started getting treatment I realized that when my health was worse was when I'd get immediately sucked into any screens and zone out. It was my body telling me it's exhausted.
Thanks for this video, I clicked right away because I can see that these are things you're challenged by and wanted to hear how you're conquering them!
Well, I try to help my family are as much as possible but I do have to put limits on it because I don’t want to overwhelm my self with too many things I’m 76 years old. Still working full-time taking care of a sick husband takes a lot of my time. Plus I’m a UA-camr.
Wow I needed to hear every single one of these! It’s so funny, I kind of feel like everything you address here is something that’s been tickling at the back of my brain for a while, so having them spelled right out so I can confront them head on is SUPER helpful! Thank you!
I just started following your content and appreciate your down to earth approach. In this video, you were wearing jewelry and makeup. I’m curious if that is part of your daily routine or more done for the video or special occasions. I’ve decreased the amount of makeup and accessories I wear and it frees up time and energy as well as saving money.
I'm in the UK and my children do not return to the school until September 4th. So seeing this under 4 weeks earlier than returning to the grind, is really helpful, as I'm feeling lost!
@@SusieQZee In England we broke up around July 21st this year. My children's school was the 20th but I know others did 21st and a few randomly Monday the 24th, depends on the local council. I say England because schools in Scotland break up a few weeks before us, and are going back this week/Next week, and I don't know how different Wales and Northern Ireland are.
I understand about the shopping problem. I definitely have that problem. I only allow myself to spend so much money a month or it Hass to be something I have to have. This last month I did buy a couple things for my UA-cam channel but it’s only because it’s something I really wanted or needed. I didn’t spend a lot of money. I’ve really cut down by probably 80% of what I used to. Send And I did buy some new clothes for a vacation we’re going on but I spent under $100 I was very proud of myself. I only bought a few new tops just to have something new and fresh to wear for the vacation. I already had plenty of pants so I didn’t buy anything. I had plenty of jackets. I didn’t buy any. I only bought actually tops. So I was pretty proud of myself to get all my shopping done under $100. I have two closets of clothes I really don’t think I need a lot of clothes.
The notifications 👏🏽 the only notifications I allow to make its presence known is text and calls. Everything else I have to go into the app to see if I have anything. I don’t keep my phone in my hand so I pick it up I need to see the important stuff at a glance until it’s my personal time (AKA everyone is asleep) 😂
And I also agree with you sometimes we just do too much for too many people and we have to stop ourselves. I’ve got myself down to just doing one thing every day or two at the most. I’m too tired and too wore out. I can’t do anymore and I’m not worrying about it anymore. My husband constantly comments like I should do more well too bad if he wants more than he should get up and try to do it himself I can’t do anymore.
It feels so good to mostly only thing comes in the mail or the utilities car, insurance, and things that I can have no control over. No credit card debt of any kind in 15 years. We cut all of our credit cards up. I don’t use a debit card either I pay cash for everything. And it can be hard to do that because not everybody will take cash. Then I have to pay with a money order or cashiers check. But you can do it and it feels good not to have to balance a on checkbook feels good not to have to worry so much.
I feel like societies view of being a mum, housewife, stay at home mum ; all seem to have a negative “ I wasn’t academic I don’t have a career” feel, like it should be a side thing, rather than it being the most important role there is, raising and supporting, loving unconditionally, amazing little humans x That’s the first things I get asked “ do you work” Then “are the children at school” NOPE & NOPE ❤️
I think this came about when governments wanted to break up families and get women to work outside the home. Children could be more easily influenced in institutions. They caused dissatisfaction among couples and women most of all. Women were told they could 'have it all' instead of choosing how they want to live their life and what their priorities are. Women are essential in this world and yet sadly our skills at home-making are often undermined - by ourselves as well!
I can’t do to-do lists for that reason, my brain can’t possibly look at it in any other way than a box to check😂 it’s very stressful LOL. Another great video Angie, thank you!
I just found your channel and i absolutely adore your content. Thank you so much! We have very different lives, i live in a city in europe i have just one kid who goes to school.part time and i work part time freelancing, but so much of what you say resonates with me.
I do run a UA-cam channel and I do try to put one post up every day. That is probably the hardest thing that I found for me to do. But I get upset when I don’t get it up. So I guess I can’t stop. But sometimes Thursdays I don’t do anything on my channel. And if I get too overwhelmed, there’s been times where I’ve stop for a week or two at a time to take a break go on vacation away from the UA-cam channel. But I don’t do complicated post. I don’t want to long post and everything I do is simple and easy. I do not see model my house every other week like some UA-camrs too. I don’t hardly even put any more. They take too much time in too much energy. I do cute little cozy, corner displays can you put on 10 to 15 minutes to 15 minutes.
You came up in my recommended videos and I'm sure glad you did 😊 Well the the Vintage Beauty video is the one that was recommended and maybe its because I use Ponds and I just made a purchase and the algorithm thought I should hear what you had to say about. But anyway, I've gotten a lot of value from your videos and its nice listening to you. Thanks for sharing 😊
This is exactly why I dropped IG, FB, and tik tok. I was consuming way too much of it. If I’m not careful I can do the same with UA-cam, but I try to only watch it in my TV or laptop as to not mindlessly scroll. I have a purpose and don’t get distracted as much.
I’m truly wondering if years down the road many people will just abandon the social media platforms altogether! I think it would be great for society! I LOVE UA-cam cause I feel like it’s a place to learn and not just to consume! IG is becoming more of that but it’s mainly just mindless entertainment! I’m curious to see what it will be like years from now! Or it could be horrible and everyone is more addicted than ever 😅

You really connected with my mother heart ❤️❤️ thank you
You were spot on about notifications!!! I live the way you put that (and everything else too)!!
I def do the cart thing!! Omg!! I’m cracking up. Love your videos of inspiration…
You are correct with social media and tv shows showing moms as a confused hot mess and are looked down on. There are to many “influencers telling you “don’t have children they will ruin your life” and motherhood is a useless life.
Thank you Angie...
Great advice!!
🌻💛🌻
"you choose your regrets!" Love this..❤
Everything you said about “goals” is EXACTLY what I needed to hear! Thank you!
It feels so good to make sure and pay things off!! We have been and our credit score keeps going up. Such a good feeling. Debt is always something you need to do you need to take care of so it is a constant worry. So stressful…
And now if I want that expensive mixer or something I don’t have to worry about passing a credit check!! Lol if we want to make payments on things..
Oh man yes, her comment about forced frugality was SO true!
"You have to choose your regrets." I love that.
I am so good at all the things I am good at (which is a lot). Let's get our heads more confident. It is good.
The last two were spot on.
Thankyou Angela for the timely reminder to focus on my family and my those around me ❤❤😊😊
Thank you, Angela! ❤️
Totally agree with you on everything! Thank you for sharing! 😊
Really being honest with myself and decerning who is truly inspirational for me vs who is making me feel bad.. that's been really huge for me in mentally & emotionally
GTD method has you create a space for a someday/maybe list. Makes that brain dump and list making so much better.
Good points, good sense of humour. Thank you.
So much science behind the notifications and focus ..
That was very helpful Angela - thank you.
Thank you so much for speaking these truths!
Such an amazing list and video!!! Thank you !
Thank you!
Thank you ! I really needed to hear this. ❤
So Angela....what's the link to that sweater??? 😅
Thank you for this. You are wonderful for much needed pauses and mind shifts.
Excellent and original ideas from lived experience. From a working mother of 4, thank you!
Girl, preach!🙌🏼
I'm in the UK and my children do not return to the school until September 4th. So seeing this under 4 weeks earlier than returning to the grind, is really helpful, as I'm feeling lost!
I'm in Bavaria Germany my don't start school till September 13th.
@@k.s.9736 I'm a little jealous
@@SusieQZee In England we broke up around July 21st this year. My children's school was the 20th but I know others did 21st and a few randomly Monday the 24th, depends on the local council. I say England because schools in Scotland break up a few weeks before us, and are going back this week/Next week, and I don't know how different Wales and Northern Ireland are.
@susanfreeland3306 there last day of school was July 28th
Same, I just turned my notifications for Life360 off, they were constant.
Preach! Loving this “cut the bull crap” content you’ve been putting out.
Love making "To Do" lists. Yes, if I don't accomplish I feel guilty.
I put an arrow on the Unaccomplished task to the next day, or week, if my planning was too ambitious.
Words to live by Angie! Thank you!
Great advices, thank you!!!!
On point. Thank you! 🥰
These are great. The last one was really well said! I completely agree!
All very good points! Life simplification is a personal journey, & it requires mindful effort, for sure.
Great video & advice, thanks Angela.
I feel like societies view of being a mum, housewife, stay at home mum ; all seem to have a negative “ I wasn’t academic I don’t have a career” feel, like it should be a side thing, rather than it being the most important role there is, raising and supporting, loving unconditionally, amazing little humans x
That’s the first things I get asked “ do you work”
Then “are the children at school” NOPE & NOPE
❤️
I think this came about when governments wanted to break up families and get women to work outside the home. Children could be more easily influenced in institutions. They caused dissatisfaction among couples and women most of all. Women were told they could 'have it all' instead of choosing how they want to live their life and what their priorities are. Women are essential in this world and yet sadly our skills at home-making are often undermined - by ourselves as well!
I can’t do to-do lists for that reason, my brain can’t possibly look at it in any other way than a box to check😂 it’s very stressful LOL. Another great video Angie, thank you!
Great ideas & wisdom ❤ Thanks for putting New light to our life 👏💕
Thank you Angie! I needed this today
Thank you, this helped me so very much. I needed this reminder so very bad❤
I just found your channel and i absolutely adore your content. Thank you so much! We have very different lives, i live in a city in europe i have just one kid who goes to school.part time and i work part time freelancing, but so much of what you say resonates with me.
First time watching a video that I feel that was make for me to listen today. Thank you so much.
So so good!! And absolutely LOVE your last point 🙌🏼
This really helped me greatly! Thank you so much❤
I just turned off my phone notifications and saw that one was from your channel. 🙂
I needed many of these reminders; thank you for your words of wisdom! ❤
So glad to
See your new video! You always feel like a friend telling us good stuff!!!!
Thank you for your honest and realistic views on motherhood
You do your research well 🧡
This is exactly why I dropped IG, FB, and tik tok.
We can only pray one day social media will become a digital ghost town.
I really needed this. Thank you
Excellent thank you
Loved every word!❤
So well done!
Where did you get your bed? It is beautiful and I have been looking for one
