Thank you for the “hot mess” analogy. So needed to be said and heard for the young women in today’s world wanting to be mothers but opting not to because of the pressure of validity in a W-2 vs validity in raising children and providing a nice home for them. Motherhood is the most noble of career choices!! Easy…no but what a benefit package!!!!

She also had the informal family BBQ and present opening the next day. That was the only one that I went to. She takes on a lot sometimes.....

We need to get back to a way for women to be able to raise their own children instead of hoping the schools don’t destroy their young little minds. Mine are young adults and I was always treated less than for being a full time Mom but they don’t realize how much better it is for the future of our world!

I had to make a very difficult decision about toxic extended family. I often wonder if I will one day regret that decision. This video made me think about the regrets that I have exchanged for that peace of mind. My children do not have to deal with a frequently emotionally devastated mother in the present. That's my priority and I will focus on that if future regrets ever try to creep in. Thank you!

Angela when you brought up the “hot mess mom” narrative it really resonated with me. I’m often told you “make it look so easy” or “you and the kids always look so put together” and it makes me uncomfy because I never want to feel like I’m not relatable, or for another mom to feel bad. I would always launch into my “don’t worry I’m a hot mess too” spiel, but lately I’ve been explaining that I just prioritize parenthood and life differently. there are certain things I don’t do or focus on as much that allow me more time in other areas. But you’re right, we also we need to stop acting like motherhood is this chaotic burdensome thing because it does affect how younger women see it and truly it so rewarding and worthwhile.

Angela! The idea of "choosing your regrets" resonated with me! You're absolutely right that we all will have regrets about different areas of our lives, but some regrets are better than the other! Thank you for talking about it!

  • @lauralogan3046

I agree with all of this ❤️ I especially resonated with the part about being discerning about the voices you’re letting influence you. That’s something I’ve been trying to work on for quite awhile. I had fallen into the habit in the morning of letting my kids watch a show while I would drink coffee and watch a few UA-cam videos. And you know what? That usually started my day with causing discontentment. You want to know how to feel behind, sorry for yourself, psycho analyzing your life? Watch a bunch of other people live theirs and tell you what you should be doing. One day I just felt so convicted about how I’m letting all of these voices into my head and neglecting the one voice I should be listing to (God). I definitely still fall into this habit and temptation, but I’m much more aware of it.

❤️❤️❤️ Love your commentary about the hot mess Mamma mentality. While it can be humorous, it can often give people the wrong idea of what a mom can be. I want to be capable and able to put in a good day's work taking care of my kids and my Homestead and not feel behind 24/7.

Choosing goals is so important. I'm a life-long seamstress and dancer. But I get so overwhelmed trying to sew "all the things" and fit in three nights of dance rehearsals along with homeschooling and homemaking.😅 The narrative in many motherhood circles is constantly " take care of yourself, have me time" and in wise ways I try to do that. But I don't have to have all the "me time" I crave to be happy. My personal goals can wait sometimes. Time with my child is often more valuable than cranking out one more project "goal". Having breathing room in my schedule is more important than trying to do it all. I need to choose the best regret. And the regret is I didn't get all my creative time in, but I did have evenings with my family. Sitting down together being a family. I do take time to do things for myself, but I also CHOSE my child over my own hobbies. The " me time" narrative can be used and abused. Its not all bad, but anything can be taken too far.
Thanks so much for this inspiring video.

Loved the comment about simplifying goals and deciding which ones are important enough to keep.
I'm with you on the hot mess mom thing too. We should want to strive for excellence as the Proverbs 31 woman. The Bible doesn't describe her as a mess, but as a model for an honorable way to be as a woman. To have your life together is not a bad thing and it's not something we need to be ashamed of. Of course, we all have hard moments, but we don't need to boast in those so much that it becomes the standard for living.
What a great video! Thank you for bringing up the challenging points that are cluttering our lives.

I appreciate the way you talk and how you deliver this information. So helpful for me. I’m pretty new to recovery from drug addiction. I was on suboxone for 10years. It’s a maintenance drug. It served its purpose. But wow! Since coming off of it 4months ago, I’m actually wanting to create some kind of routine. I‘ve been ebing and flowing with routines. I had a great routine from January to April. I came off my sub in April and since, I’ll do well for a few days or week and then eb again. So I’m immersing myself into this content. Great video. Shared on FB. My only note of differing opinion is that raising an only is vastly easier than raising a whole herd of kids. It absolutely depends on the kid or kids involved, their personalities, etc. This is a conversation I’ve had with many people. There are advantages and disadvantages to both only having 1 child and having 3-9 children. The biggest thing that is the same… being a Mom rocks!

The expectations on myself are massive. I would LOVE if you made a dedicated video about getting out of this cycle of massive to do lists, because it's harder than I realized! I feel so reliant on them!

Ah, morning routines, I agree with you, it sounds like a fairytale. I am a mother now, that means kids first and then I can enjoy coffee (if it is a extreme good day) 😆 it is 4 in the morning, one twin is up because she has diper rash (damn, tomato!!!!) and she needs comforting 🤷
I totally agree with you on debt, having too much stuff (decor, clothes) and always saying yes, uh, that can really distract our minds from other things in life which can improve our happines.
Few days ago I make one promise for myself, I have to wear clothes that I already own, not buying a single item for a year! I have a dress for every occasion, glam and casual, size up and down, why purchasing new things?
I fill up charts online too and when I look at sum price I put my phone down and go away, it suprising how many things I do not need and I forget about them.

I love that you mentioned that the “hair on fire” narrative can make people feel like being a wife and mother is miserable. I have been around so many moms that act this way, and generally they are carting their kids to baseball, then dance, then the next activity and all the while the child is miserable too! Before I became a mother, I thought that’s just what motherhood was. I always knew I wanted to be a mom, but I wasn’t looking forward to that part! In reality though, now that I am a mother, it is THE most beautiful part of my life. I never felt so much purpose and like I’m making a difference in the world like I do now. Motherhood is such a blessing!

There is so much wisdom here, thank you for sharing! Many are practices I have begun to implement over the past couple of years, but not all. I love especially how you framed the way we let our phones boss us around with notifications. I've gotten as far as ignoring the ones I don't care to spend time on, but even that can be exhausting! Will certainly be reexamining my settings to improve this.
I also love how you clarified that morning and evening routines are often more of a flow than a rigid schedule. For those of us who are sensitive about not being lazy, it's easy to be hard on ourselves when we don't measure up to our goals...but the crucial piece (as you pointed out) is to examine these goals and make sure they are in fact realistic in relation to our big picture priorities.
Wonderful video, thanks again and keep up the great work!

We cut all of our credit cards up. I don’t use a debit card either I pay cash for everything. And it can be hard to do that because not everybody will take cash. Then I have to pay with a money order or cashiers check. But you can do it and it feels good not to have to balance a on checkbook feels good not to have to worry so much.

This last month I did buy a couple things for my UA-cam channel but it’s only because it’s something I really wanted or needed. I didn’t spend a lot of money. I’ve really cut down by probably 80% of what I used to. Send And I did buy some new clothes for a vacation we’re going on but I spent under $100 I was very proud of myself. I only bought a few new tops just to have something new and fresh to wear for the vacation. I already had plenty of pants so I didn’t buy anything. I had plenty of jackets. I didn’t buy any. I only bought actually tops. So I was pretty proud of myself to get all my shopping done under $100. I have two closets of clothes I really don’t think I need a lot of clothes.

That’s the first things I get asked “ do you work”
Then “are the children at school” NOPE & NOPE
    ❤️

I think this came about when governments wanted to break up families and get women to work outside the home. Children could be more easily influenced in institutions. They caused dissatisfaction among couples and women most of all. Women were told they could 'have it all' instead of choosing how they want to live their life and what their priorities are. Women are essential in this world and yet sadly our skills at home-making are often undermined - by ourselves as well!

I’m truly wondering if years down the road many people will just abandon the social media platforms altogether! I think it would be great for society! I LOVE UA-cam cause I feel like it’s a place to learn and not just to consume! IG is becoming more of that but it’s mainly just mindless entertainment! I’m curious to see what it will be like years from now! Or it could be horrible and everyone is more addicted than ever 😅

I do run a UA-cam channel and I do try to put one post up every day. That is probably the hardest thing that I found for me to do. But I get upset when I don’t get it up. So I guess I can’t stop. But sometimes Thursdays I don’t do anything on my channel. And if I get too overwhelmed, there’s been times where I’ve stop for a week or two at a time to take a break go on vacation away from the UA-cam channel. But I don’t do complicated post. I don’t want to long post and everything I do is simple and easy. I do not see model my house every other week like some UA-camrs too. I don’t hardly even put any more. They take too much time in too much energy. I do cute little cozy, corner displays can you put on 10 to 15 minutes to 15 minutes.

Do you have homeschool curriculum that you use or recommend? Or do you do more eclectic and pick and choose pieces tailored to each child?
