Watching your video with all the images made me realize one of the things that has tripped me up in the past.
Photographers use a trick to make something that is bland and boring seem exciting. If something like a shirt and a pair of jeans or a long skirt isn't all that interesting, then what they do is unbutton the blouse almost to the waist band, and/or they unbutton or pull up the skirt to the top of the thigh, or even have a pair of ripped jeans with the knees showing. In other words, they show waaaaaay more skin than the average woman would ever be comfortable showing. So a woman sees that photo and thinks it is going to be a good look on her, but when she gets it home, it looks bland and boring and she doesn't understand why. It's because she's not showing her chest down to the navel and she's also not exposing the top of her thigh.
I'll be sure not to be sidetracked by this in the future, as I'm onto them now 🤔

I've recently gone on a rampage of altering my clothes. I'm SUPER picky on fabrics, cuts, and how clothes lay on my body. I have a hard time finding a piece that I don't have at least one gripe about. I have 100s of beautiful items in my closet. So I've been hemming skirts and pants, completely redesigning sleeves (adding little ruffles is my fav), making tops a bit more modest, adding embellishments. It's becoming a hobby and I'm finally loving everything about my clothes 😊

Love that! It's making everything unique to you which is SO fun! There are tons of vintage patterns I see that I am dying to make for myself. Cuts and styles that you just don't see anymore, but are still very flattering. One day I'll get to that :)

Wow, I'm a homeschooling mom and we live in the foothills on a dirt road and I have this problem! I always gravitate towards beautiful clothes that make me swoon and then it sits in my closet because I don't want to get them dirty or full of weeds and stickers when I am taking my dog for a walk. My three words: Functional, flattering, comfortable. Thank you for an excellent video ❤

Your example of the hat described me! I have about a dozen hats, I love them, but I never wore them. One day I put an outfit together and wore a hat over to my parents’ house. Omg,you would have thought I had a monkey suit on! “What’s with the hat?” “I didn’t know who that was at the door” and so on. I haven’t tried a hat since, but I’m going to start wearing my hats but with a more confident attitude…

OMG! Yes! Wear your hats! People will get used to seeing you in them and won’t comment anymore. I wear hats all year long; straw hats in the summer (with jeans/shorts/tank tops/T-shirts/sandals), to the beach, baseball hats to my grandson’s basketball games, or to the park, knit-caps/beanies in the fall and winter with cozy scarfs, leggings and sneakers/Ugg boots/chunky sole boots. I have so many and have so much fun wearing and styling them. (And I’m a retired grandma 😄)

Love this idea. A friend gifted me with a color consult for my birthday last year and it was life changing! Since then, I've been totally overhauling my wardrobe. I think this process will go so well!
About a month ago I decided I was going to do a personal experiment and wear a dress or a skirt every day for a week. I've never done anything like that before. I was curious how it would make me feel about myself. I found out that I love it! As I've gotten older, I've realized I want to feel more feminine and I've never felt good in lounge wear. Just makes me feel frumpy and blah. Not anymore!
I've now stocked my closet (via thrifting, mostly) with lovely but easy summer dresses (in my best color palette!) and fun graphic tees to tie over for a casual vibe.
About a week in a half into it, my husband made a comment that hurt my feelings and I stopped for a few days. He didn't mean to be hurtful - we've been together for 20 years and this was very different for me! I think he was legitimately curious 🤷🏼‍♀️
I realized, though, that it mattered way more to me how I felt in my clothes and I'm still wearing dresses most days. It's also much cooler - I'm in Texas and it's HOT!
I can still do everything I normally do on a daily basis, I just feel better doing it!
I'm 37, a stay at home mom of 6, and not having anymore babies. I've never felt better about myself and my self-image as an older mom

Oh Angie, thank you for sharing this video! I'm a few years older than you and just a few years ago I said it was time to start dressing more my age. At that point, my birthday was a slap in the face and a wake-up call that I need to invest in myself. I still could care less what the latest trends are, but am slowly starting to care about fashion. I used to watch a 'fashion vlogger' and she kept talking about words and I just couldn't wrap my style around her fashion as it just didn't flow nicely together. It took me several videos to realize that it was her being a few decades younger that I just couldn't relate. I felt horrible that she rocked that boldness and I just struggled to find pieces that fit. I have since stopped following her and am in such a happier place now. This is the video that every girl needs who didn't grow up in a home that taught such things. I am relieved that I can now define my style (after I complete the 3 words homework - lol). I am thankful for stumbling upon your channel - please keep releasing such wholesome content. :)

I stopped buying “just in case” outfits like formal or dress to impress items about 4 years ago- I never wore them or if I did, maybe once for some event we never repeated. At 62, I have changed up some items in my wardrobe. In my 20-30’s, I was more of a casual preppy style, more jeans with button down shirts but still had corduroys and chino’s, lots of Icelandic sweaters; then my 40-mid-50’s I went to primarily tees and jeans with a few button downs which includes some flannel and gauze ones, and that’s where I am at presently, except I have been adding better quality tees in v-necks, minimal graphics, brighter more saturated colors, sleeveless shells to wear under cardigans and added 3 blazers in black, navy and gray along with an olive cargo jacket and one dark denim and one white denim jacket. I am expanding from basic blue denim to colored denim and khakis. And my jewelry has been minimized to a core collection of silver and gold- 4 necklaces of each, 4 stud earrings of each metal, one pair each of diamond studs and pearly studs (from my late mother’s jewelry collection), 2 each metal of small and medium hoops, 1 ruby drops (gift for Mother’s Day from my children) with a matching necklace, and what makes my heart sing- bracelets, I love bracelets but I have whittled my huge collection of bracelets down to 4 cuffs, 4 chain, 1 diamond tennis (gift from my brother for my 16th bday), 10 each of gold and silver bangles and 5 silver with some faux stones in them, and other than my work wedding band and my actual wedding band and engagement rings, I have 5 other rings as I am not a ring kind of gal. I also have whittled my shoes down to 4 pairs of flats (navy, black, nude and gray), 2 pairs of Hey Dudes in blue and oatmeal, 2 pair of New Balance slip one ins I gray and taupe, 1 pair of white tennis shoes, (I have 4 pairs of work sneakers that I rotate every week), I can’t wear heels due to a fused ankle, but do have a pair of winter booties and hiking boots. One each winter coat, parka, windbreaker and trench coat, 4 sets of winter gloves and scarves, 4 baseball caps, 1 larger rimmed straw hat, 2 pairs of sunglasses, 4 purses (1 is convertible as a crossbody or fanny pack and my daily use one). All of my wardrobe can pretty much be worn year round, excluding the cardigan sweaters, and layered. I have about 40 total pieces of clothing including the outerwear and not including intimate wear. My husband and I decluttered and donated to nursing homes about 100 pieces of clothing each just about 3 months ago and that has taken so much mental weight and stress off us when we walk into our closet and open dresser drawers- we minimized so much that we can now hang our tee’s up if we choose to!😅

You're blowing my mind right now
I'm often poked fun at because I wear leggings or beautiful flowing dresses but nothing in between. So many loved ones have suggested that I level up to a blouse and jeans to feel more put together but still casual
But it's never felt right and it's because my practical word would be "unrestricted" rather than casual. I've never sat and made myself think about a more appropriate descriptor before

To figure out my words I thought about my favorite outfits or items... This list of words is PERFECT for me! As I went, I had trouble with *one* word but I let myself say a phrase (see below), but as the 3 ideas work together I could drop (most of) the extra words down to easy, fun, and uniquely styled! (It may seem like I switched the last two portions, but they go together so closely for me, it works either way.)
    1. practical word/ day to day wear: easy to put on but not boring
    2. aspirational word/ like to dress/ movie character goal: fun!
    3. emotional word/ how you feel in those clothes: uniquely put together/ styled

I find that most pastels that I see are better suited for summer color complexions (light colors with cool undertones). I also see so much autumn or winter color themed clothing. It's made shopping a lot more streamed lined for me! No longer do I have to look at every clothing item on the rack! I only quickly visually scan racks of clothes for my color season now!

I live in a four season state in Tennessee and I work at school. I have always been a dress/medi skirt/maxi skirt person and I dress like Bea in the movies Peter Rabbit. I like summer dresses that come down right at my knees and pair it with a cardigan shirt that comes down to my waist or a jean jacket in the summer and spring. In the fall/winter, I wear the same dresses and skirts but with black leggings and sometimes a sweater over the dress. I prefer clothes that I can wear all year round so I don’t have to rotate. I love clothes that I will be wearing everyday and I think I have found that style. I love this video of yours since it’s not promoting how how we should look but what’s practical for our actual lifestyle. My fantasy self was the corporate woman look with blazers and pencil dresses and skirts. I have NEVER heard anyone talk about shape wear as the foundation of our wardrobe ...you are spot on!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm 74 and have gained some extra weight ( I now have huge boobs and a tummy to match , which alone is depressing when I look in a mirror ), but getting bigger bras that are wide ( like sport bras ) around the sides and back , so there's no ' fat back ' showing and wearing a girdle ( not real tight ) I find that I stand up straighter and just the better posture alone will make our clothes look better on us ...plus it makes us look younger!. You seldom see older people standing straight because of all of our ' aches /pains ' , but the support from good fitting bras and a girdle type shapewear will support our backs and abdomen area so that we can stand straighter...and the girdle doesn't have to be anything real tight that we have to struggle a lot with to get in / out of, even a fairly lose fitting girdle gives better support to the back / stomach area better than just reg under wear. One area that I will disagree with you on is the choice of fabrics....even tho natural fabric feel good ,as a whole they wrinkle real bad! Nothing will make you look frumpier than being all wrinkled :))

It is funny that the things I am so drawn to do not look good on me at all. I love lace, but I put it on and oh, gosh! I know what is becoming to me, and I generally go with those things...solid colors and more tailored things. It isn't necessarily what I think of as my personal style, but these are the things that look best on me. I love bright colors. I love bold prints. I love boho, feminine, flowy things. But these things do not love me. Instead of my looking like I am wearing the clothes, it looks like the clothes are wearing me. So, I do add pearls for the softness and feminine quality I really like. I find solid colors that have some tailoring, but a little flowiness, too. Sometimes, I have purchased things because I loved the color, and I've worn them once. It is hard to part with things that you've paid good money for, but I'm thinking it is better to donate these items, so someone gets the benefit of them while they are sort of still stylish. Day to day, I go for comfort over anything else...and this is where I add my color. No one sees me, so it doesn't matter so much, and my chickens certainly don't care. Lol.
The other thing that you do have to take into consideration is weight/shape/size. I have noticed that for plus size women, the choices are very limited. I don't know who these pieces are designed for, but it is not for most women. There are a few companies that try to help you feel beautiful and fashionable even if you are in a plus size, but most of them think we all either wear tents or can wear the brightest colors combined with the boldest patterns. I'm petite in height, have an apple shape, and a small face with smallish features. So, no, no, and no. I am working on it, but until I get back to a size where I have more choices, finding things that aren't merely comfortable is a challenge.
You would look good in anything...honestly. I love all of the things I see you in when you make videos for us. Thank you, because I do think what you shared is very helpful for everyone.

I feel like retailers think all plus size people are old. Everything looks like someone that is 75 to 80 years old would wear. I’m not asking for hot pants and string tied tank tops, but, the big, huge graphics that make me look even bigger… I’m so sick of. I think as a plus size person I look much better in smaller, print, dainty flowers, not big, huge flowers plastered all over my dress. It’s so stressful for me to get dressed!

Instead of a little black dress, a little black skirt and a little black top. Even when I wear a light colored skirt with a light color top, I often have people say, Oh, that's a skirt and top; I thought it was a dress. And with black it's really hard to tell.

I’m afraid I don’t agree: I am a pear too (US8 on top and US10 sometimes 14 on the bottom) and I have plenty of dresses. I go for styles which are fitted on top (and preferably adding width at the shoulder so puff shoulders or sleeves or a small shoulder pad), nipped in at the waist and flared to give the extra space I need over the hips and thighs. Sometimes a dress can do all the work in adding breadth at the shoulder and nipping you in at the waist to offset the width in the thigh/bottom/hip area. When you find that dress you’d better buy it, it’s the perfect dress that can make you look like an hourglass! 🤩👌❤️

@@wavyjenny602 From one pear to another, I’m glad you are able to find dresses for yourself. Thank you for your comment. I’ll keep your suggestions in mind, although I do not enjoy shopping for dresses. I have no luck finding many that will work for me that I like. The typical ‘little black dress’ will never fit me. Oh well. I’ll just keep trying.

I'm the same way as one word doesn't quite cut it. I haven't paired this down yet, but a couple of descriptors that came to mind were: feminine and easy, but not buttoned up (I might reword that as Italian seaside in the summer). Simple, yet not. Effortless, but clever. And effortless, yet chic.
