Neil… tire repair is becoming a lost art. A couple of years ago on Independence Day, my 9 year old grandson called me to ask if I could fix his bike. He said that it had a flat tire. He also said that his buddy down the road wanted to go biking down to the creek but, his dad told him he’d have to wait until the next day when the tire store was open. So, I grabbed my cigar box of patches, tools and glue. When I arrived, he had the bike upside down in the driveway. He showed me the flat front tire and stepped back so that I could get to work. Instead, I had him go get a Crescent wrench. When he tried to hand it to me I said, “You got this bud!” From this point forward, I barely touched the tire or the bike. As I instructed him through removal of the tire, breakdown, tube extraction…. Every step through repair and replacement… I watched his self confidence rise. My favorite step was when he immersed the tube in the stock tank and followed the bubbles to find a thorn. When he finished he was so proud of himself that he couldn’t wait to mount up and go brag about it to his neighbor buddy! For Christmas that year, he got his own cigar box of tire repair parts. He has since fixed several flats on his brothers, buddy’s and his own bicycles. In a different interaction he had a rear tire that he fixed. When he put it back together it was rubbing. So, we had a lesson in chain tension and tire alignment. This was a lesson the neither his two older brothers or his father had ever mastered. Neil, watching you and your dad repair that tube warmed my heart. It’s those simple things that bond generations together. And, in this video there were dozens of bonding adhesives shown. Keep teaching those girls. These moments are memories they’ll always have.
Oh man I love hearing stories like this about your grandson. You most definitely planted a DIY seed in his spirit that day. The bike tire repair reminds me of a story as well. One year we went camping with a bunch of family and the greatest joy for us kids was riding our bikes all throughout the camp ground. There was a particular hill that was by far the most fun, but it was in close proximity to a locust tree. Those thorns reaked havoc on all of our tires, but Dad setup a make shift tire shop back at the camper. He was patching tires all weekend because of that tree and we all got a lesson as we stood in line to wait on our repair. I had forgotten about that until you told your story! It is most certainly the simple things that bond us together. Never thought it would be tire repair but as usual, you are on point! Thanks for the reminder and as always thanks for watching!
@@digdrivediy his older brother is helping build himself a nightstand. We started it during the school holiday vacation. I got most of the remainder finished with a few short interludes of his help. Next week he will be coming over to do the final assembly. I’ll post that video toward the end of the month. Although I could easily have finished the project in a couple of weeks… I don’t regret spreading it out until he has the chance to savor the finish. I can hardly wait to see him sign the back and take it home as his own! It’s little things like this that keep your dad, you and me going despite the thorns we pick up along the way.
Thank you for sharing the wonderful story. Reminds me of the quality time I got to spend with my dad and the kind of memories I want to build with my future children. God bless you!
Awe! I teared up a little with that montage of the girls playing on the swing set. Time goes so fast. Thanks Neil! Looking forward to the landscaping transformation 🤠👍
I grew up on a ranch in west Texas but have lived in NYC for the last 16 years. I love watching this channel bc watching you work makes me relax enough to go to sleep. Back in TX, we had to get up VERY early some Saturdays and pick rocks out of the alfalfa fields and throw them in the back of Pappy’s pickup😅 Regarding Texas, some things I miss (power tools), some things I don’t (rocks). ps I was unsubscribed after following you since the first pond video. pss in Texas we call them “tanks” not “ponds”
Neil, when you mentioned in the video about UA-cam unsubscribing viewers, I looked, and sure enough they had unsubscribed me too!! So I resubscribed and now I'm going to check every other channel I follow!
Thank you for telling us to confirm we are subscribed! I've been subscribed to you for years and watch you every Sunday religiously, and sure enough, it said I was no longer subscribed!
As a dad of 4 yr old triplet girls, that montage has hit me harder than anything else I’ve ever thought about. The reality that you think the days go by too slow when really they go by too fast
My niece graduated from middle school over the weekend. Damn, I held her as a baby just yesterday. Now she is 5’5” and growing like a weed. She is gonna be tall like her parents. I can talk about her for hours like any parent - she is as close to a daughter I will ever have. In fact my and my brothers wills make her the beneficiary of a trust (since she is still a minor). Seeing a montage like the one you did would break me up. Good job!
Bless you and your girls. It all goes so very fast. Yesterday I was walking the halls with my baby son, singing songs to try to get him to sleep. Now he's 20 yrs old. Best of luck to you, and cherish every moment.
I’ll tell you Neil watching you and your dad together really made me miss my dad. He’s been gone for twenty years but I miss him every day! God bless and keep up the great family content. Thanks!
It's wonderful that you let your daughters drive the backhoe and tractor. It teaches them they are capable of doing non-girl things. Great job. And no, I am not a feminist. I just like seeing girls getting opportunities to learn to be strong.
Love this video just like all of them. When you were talking about project creep, and how to attack a job, I really relate to that feeling! Thank you Neil!
I acquired a huge pile of rafts of 3x3 softwood timbers 8’ long that were used as shipping structure for tubular steel from eastern europe, and it was riddled with huge numbers of spikes. Since most of it was slated for firewood, I settled for breaking the rafts into blocks of 5 timbers each, and built a bench with an Evolution multi-material saw, and just cut through everything to end up with slabs for the wood stove. There’s a pound or two of nails to clean out with the ashes, but it beat the heck out of trying to split things apart and pound out the nails. Heated my home for the last two winters with them.
Neil, you made an old man cry. Just found your channel and subbed. Your comment to your daughter about being one of your favorites after she drove the tractor reminded me of when my 3 boys were growing up and occasionally after they completed one of their house chores I would muss up their hair a tell them that they were now one of my favorite sons. Great memories! Your families love and work ethic is inspiring. Thank you for taking me along on your journey. Stay safe!
The girls jumping off the swings and the flashback to them doing the same when they were younger reminded me of my daughter doing the same off a set almost exactly like this one. Broke her arm just above the wrist the day before 1st grade started. She didn’t want to go to school with a cast. She hid it under her jacket.
Wow, you are so lucky to have your family living so close by. I was born in Beechgrove, IN, lived in Plainfield, and all my Mom's family lived in a very small suburb of Indy. We lived there until I was 10, then had to move to Ohio for my Dad's job. That was in the '60s. I still consider Indiana my home, and get choked up when they sing Back Home..at the 500. You guys are living the dream, so happy for you.
There`s never a dull moment in your life, your family has that area surrounded with some beautiful homes and ponds, what a great place to raise children. The girls went from swinging, to driving tractors down the street and helping out, be well my friend, you have been blessed with a wonderful family.
This is the first DDD video I've missed watching on a Sunday in a long time. I missed it due to the birth of my first child. Now that we're settled at home, I'm watching it with him napping on my chest. I have always loved how you tie in your family to your videos, but they hit different now with a child of my own. You exemplify being a great father and I've picked up some great lessons from you along the way. ❤️
I love this video. On several levels. The close proximity of the family. Your girls driving the tractors and especially the pictures of them jumping off of the swings…that was brave of them looks like they jumped off very high (wow), reminds me of myself pretending I was Tarzan jumping off my bike like I was at the circus.
You guys are AWESOME! They grow up so fast, but you and your girls aren't missing a moment. Love seeing how your extended family live so close to each other as well. I think we may need to see some drumming at some point, Neil.
Thanks for the montage of the girls growing up. That's why I love this channel so much. Your videos always include your loving family and all who surround you. The heart of America certainly begins on a family farm in the heartland called Indiana.
Your daughter in the pink tshirt. Drives your backhoe when you are not around...😂 The way the got onto the road..then the shifting..well done Neil and family.
That old silo foundation would turn into a cool outdoor kitchen/ gazebo. Get an old cone shaped silo roof and use that for the top of the gazebo. With the proximity to the swimming pond and lawn. I think that would tie it all together.
Another thing to consider with what you put around the base of the bushes and trees is wood chips. You could grind up all the stumps and wood you moved across the street, and save the money on buying stones. It will give a different look and it’s great for holding moisture in the soil to help with growth. Something to consider
Your family homes close by is just like mine but mine lives closer together! My granddaughter lives in one of our homes on our other property Adjacent to the one we live on and my daughter lives on the backside of the property and my sister and brother in law lives on their property next to ours and my brother in law lives on our other property we sold him behind ours! Love country living here in Alabama! Nice and quiet!
Gosh, that tire patch brought back memories. I watched my dad do that many times! Looks like the playground set is in good hands. It will be making great memories for more years to come!
When your wife started getting sentimental about the playset I knew what was coming. I remember the day we disassembled ours to move it down the street to a young couple with a little boy. I remember how happy the that family was when we gifted it to them. Let’s just say tears were shed by everyone
I was embarrassingly excited when I saw this episode came out just 13 hours ago. I'm officially all caught up on this. Can't wait until the next one! Count me in the bunch that thought they were subscribed and had to resubscribe a couple days ago.
Great vid as always! I turned our old grain bin foundation into a gazebo for gatherings with friends and family. I kept the original roof on it but open all around with screens due to the bugs. Fire pit in center, chairs and tables, grill, smoker, griddle and fancy lighting. It was about the same size slab that you have.
I have 3 boys, oldest is 13 and youngest is 6. I love watching your immediate and extended family interact and be together. So wonderful! My wife said something I’ll never forget when taking about having kids: The days are long but the years are short! Time sure flies by. P.s. Uncle Dig-Drive is my favorite name! 😂
Very cool to see a play ground set headed for the 3rd generation of childhood fun. You're giving your young ladies goals to success on the home and in life. Love the photo's of memories past but your not even close to finished. Cherish every moment. ♥️
Your girls are growing up so fast, and it is very nice that you gifted that swing set to your nephew too. He’ll love it just as much as your girls did. Great incorporation of old videos of when your girls were small playing on it.
About nail removal. I take any scrap wood. What I have found that works best for me is to cut all the nails down to about 3/4 to one inch with a cutoff disc first. Then it's a lot easier to hammer them through. Then flip the board, and with a medium length bar it is also less of a length of nail to pull out.
Thanks Neil for this weeks episode. I always watch your videos since Captain Kleeman talked about you. I love that you have everything I don't have, so can get all the joy of family without the stresses. I have enjoyed watching the girls grow up and the farm grow too, not to mention all the new tools...
This was one of my favourite videos yet. Loved seeing you guys truck over to your brother’s as a family, with the girls driving. So much fun. Wishing you and your family all the best Neil.
Hello from the Netherlands. Neil why don't you build yourself a nice set of : OTB-Forks (Over-The-Bucket) or a set of real quick-change-fork-rack something like Captain Kleeman made. I've watched that video of you making those pallet forks on the backhoe bucket so many times thanks for the video Neil , Mrs.Koch and the kids . Kind regards, Hollandduck
I look forward to Sunday. Seeing your girls playing on that playground just reminded me of my girls playing on theirs. Enjoy this Neil, and we can tell that you do, these days disappear fast. AND I am so happy to see you teaching your girls to drive things, tractors, loaders, snowmobiles etc.!! Driving all those things helps teach kids how to make decisions!
My problem when I start a project is I squirrel too much. By the end of the day I have several projects going but none finished. Thanks for sharing. Kids grow up too fast!
The thing about Farm UA-camrs in the Lost Colonies which still takes guys like me from across the Pond by surprise is the sheer size of the land. I think I mentioned it somewhere that in America, you drive for six hours, and you've just crossed a State line: in England, you drive for four hours, local people's accents change twice, and bread rolls have three different names. Like the ongoing life stories; keep up the good work.
Absolutely beautiful property, your so fortunate to live so close to your family ! God has truly blessed you and your family !!! Thanks for the great videos !
Seeing both of your daughters reactions to deriving that equipment was great. Brought me back to when I was quite young and being around farms and equipment, it was such a thrill. Weird part is, it's still kind of fun. The Memorial day tire repairs is just funny. Thanks for another great video
Miss my family all living right around each other like that . Made me smile with the backhoe passing the compact tractor brought back a ton of good memories
Yes, great to see your dad Neil ... pass on my best wishes to him and your mom from your Aussie mate. It was so nice to see the girls driving the tractors, what a blast for them. It was so nice to see the little girl waving as you passed in the backhoe ... so good to see such a happy community atmosphere where you live ... around here, if you wave at someone they will likely try to run you down for offending them :( Is your dad still driving the Corvette? Greetings from Down Under
Maybe you could get your dad to do a video of what he gets up to? That would be awesome to see. If I were you, I would see if you can sell/give that lumber to some artsy type person that can make it into tables or chairs or something? Alot of people actively look for old tired lumber to make into other stuff? Like recycling. it looks like there is some good useable wood in there?
Hello from Neil's mom. It's 1AM, and Jack is asleep. He's been keeping busy the last couple of days hauling grain for our nephew. He's enjoying driving a semi again, but it's making his leg sore. It's the first semi driving since he had a hip replacement. It's fascinating that people all over the world are watching Neil's videos. Australia! So far away. Thank you for your kind greetings, I will pass them along to Jack in the morning-Mary Koch
hey Neil, i grew up with a bmx bike, learnd quick to patch the tires, dad got tired of it 😄 Thanks for showing another nice video. greeting from germany
It is so cool your kids on the tractors Like mine on the bobcat Learning skills they might never use But in a But in a emergency could help The other thing is your father was with you Always pitching in So very much neat I had a great time with mine before he left us God bless . I so enjoy your videos.
Neil, you're a rich man. Thanks for including us in your adventures!

I’ve been in tires for over 30 years. I knew it had a tube in it as soon as you showed the valve stem. You do a great job for little tire experience.
Give that swing set a good power washing, then when it's dries, paint it in a solid stain. You can get the stain in many colors.

The swimming pool video was the first video I watched and haven't stopped since
That's one of my all time favorite videos.
Thats so awesome how your family lives all around each other.
I like that phrase. Don't know I've ever heard it before but is sure is true! Thanks so much for watching!
Thank you so much Ed!
Neil why don't you build yourself a nice set of :
OTB-Forks (Over-The-Bucket)
or a set of real quick-change-fork-rack something like Captain Kleeman made.
I've watched that video of you making those pallet forks on the backhoe bucket so many times
thanks for the video Neil , Mrs.Koch and the kids .
Kind regards, Hollandduck
I'd love to have a set one day! Thanks for watching Hollandduck!
I didn't realize you were up there in the black swamp area of Ohio. Has to be neat surrounded by relatives. Mine are scattered all over the US.
Your property is Beautiful ❤
Change itself is neutral. It’s the outcome of the change which is either positive or negative.
Its super cool to see all the houses of the family all in the same area
The thing about Farm UA-camrs in the Lost Colonies which still takes guys like me from across the Pond by surprise is the sheer size of the land. I think I mentioned it somewhere that in America, you drive for six hours, and you've just crossed a State line: in England, you drive for four hours, local people's accents change twice, and bread rolls have three different names. Like the ongoing life stories; keep up the good work.
Absolutely beautiful property, your so fortunate to live so close to your family ! God has truly blessed you and your family !!! Thanks for the great videos !
I love this content . 20 yrs of grid this month bringing up kids the journey is real and beautiful.
Well done you giys
Cleanup looks great. I think it’s fantastic that you can give that swing set to a third hand. That’s great when you can pass things like that along.
Neil that was a Real good video Love ,All in the Familys .love your Dad too .
3.25…. You look SO like your Dad! Nice :-) 🇬🇧👋👋🇺🇸 A great Sunday evening treat , as usual, to catch your weekly release.
Seeing both of your daughters reactions to deriving that equipment was great. Brought me back to when I was quite young and being around farms and equipment, it was such a thrill. Weird part is, it's still kind of fun. The Memorial day tire repairs is just funny. Thanks for another great video
Our pleasure!
Miss my family all living right around each other like that . Made me smile with the backhoe passing the compact tractor brought back a ton of good memories
Ahh! I'm a little south of you in Anderson, but cool to see a fellow Hoosier!
Oh, the Corvette hasn't been taken out of hibernation yet. We will have to get it out and shined up!

I love that your family is all so close!
