People not getting it done will always find a reason to complain about how someone is getting it done. Keep getting it done! Always great info and it is much appreciated!
Neil, stop worrying about the trolls. Some people will look for something to criticize just to get the response that you are giving them. Do what you do and don’t apologize I think that will bother people more than not putting your seatbelt on. I’m watching because I like the Neil that does it his way. Happy Easter God bless!
boy you nailed it with the opening sentence lol. I'm the kinda guy that just keeps the grass cut and weedeated....beyond that, I couldn't care less. But I can appreciate people taking pride in their lawn!
Great information as usual. We have attempted to replace our lawn with micro clover to improve soils fixing nitrogen via the plants and reducing our need to mow while maintaining a lush, green expanse. First year was great until the bunnies and deer declared it an open salad bar.! The did spread fertilizer pellets in return. ;-). Wishing you and your family a blessed Easter celebration. Peace brother
There is reason your yard looks so good. I actually laughed when you were walking beside your 318. My neighbor would do the same thing with his 400 when we were cleaning the beach.
Happy Easter, Neil and family! Good explanation of the difference between the broadcast and drop spreaders. I guess their name kind explains how they work but good to hear from someone who knows. Nice to see the yellow JD 318 in action!
Love watching how other people care for their grass. Couldn’t agree more about blindly putting nutrients into the ground. I live in an arid area and use a locally sourced fertilizer designed with our soil in mind.
Neil, you have yourself what looks to be a very well made spreader. Having the two drop sieves makes a huge difference. It should last you many many years. Good information in the video, thank you…John
Neil, I fell in the 2nd category, but I still watched the whole video just because of the entertainment and educational content. I would probably have a garden rather than a pond, but that is just me. ❤the vid.and I will see you in the next video to see the results whenever the results may fully bloom.
Fellow Indiana guy and John Deere enthusiast. Glad to see Bruno out earning his keep. Since you like the green and yellow, it would be cool to see you make it to the Tipton Tractor show featuring John Deere in August. I’ll be there with my garden tractor collection. Would be great to meet you. Happy Easter.
Always great info Neil , I’ve learned a lot! It’s nice to follow along! Seat belt…really! Keyboard warriors always have something to say! Thanks for sharing! Man i like that tractor, you did a great job with that, and i like that construction yellow! Farming is dangerous!!! What doesn’t kill you makes you smarter.
I work for a water company here in the UK and managed our contracts for Biosolids deliveries and spreading with our farmer customers. A fascinating process and amazing way of recovering resources we would have otherwise have to landfill or incinerate.
Soil nutrition and farming is an interesting topic . Living in a gold mining town on the mostly solid rock of the Canadian Shield I mow my lawn in the summer and I planted a potato once with my mom but that was well over 50 years ago .
Great video Neil. Another reason I like a drop spreader is for spreading fertilizer on windy days which are so common in the spring. The drop spreader is much less affected by wind than a broadcast spreader or liquid sprayer.
Wow! Very helpful video Neal! First. Think of all of the wasted time and money from broadcasting….material where you don’t want it or need it, extra clean up. Totally agree, invest in what you can get and work towards the right tool for the job. Also. Thanks for all of the other info. Reminded me I need to talk to you about my fields. Thanks!
Neil… that’s a great primer on drop spreaders. We have a small 48” drop spreader and a broadcast spreader. I own one and a buddy owns the other… we trade usage back and forth. Having a lot of trees and uneven ground I use the broadcaster more. My buddy has a more suburban lawn with strict property lines, decorative shrubs and pavement to worry about… so he favors the drop spreader for most uses. I do use the drop spreader from time to time… I find it tolerates more wind with less drift. And that comes in handy when using those ‘weed & feed’ applications. It’s also handy when spreading powdered wood ashes or lime. Both of which are readily available and inexpensive here. My first dinky little broadcaster did not make it to its third season. It taught me two lessons… it doesn’t matter which spreader you own… if you want to own it for very long… you have to wash it thoroughly after every use. The quicker you wash it and dry it out; the less it will corrode. The second note… store it under cover. Any residues left in any crevice or on any metal surface will only and most assuredly transform it into RUST! Well, I need to run. Gabby is on a track in the yard… she might be following the trail of the Easter Bunny. I need to distract her with a game of fetch. I hope you and the ladies have a blessed Easter.
Thanks Dave! Great bits of advice to add on the broadcast vs drop spreader! I'm anxiously awaiting the results of our first spread when we return from Spring Break! Let's just hope I didn't make it streaky!
Yardwork happens to be a hobby of mine, and at the end of the day it is very rewarding to have a yard that is pleasant to spend our free time in, instead of going somewhere away from home. As a matter of fact, visitors find it difficult to leave our pleasant and well-manicured environment. Well neighbor see ya on the next video.
Bonjour Neil. Emmanuel.
France- Quebec? I’m from south Louisiana. When I grew up all the old people ( my wife to) spoke mostly French. My great grandfather came to Louisiana in the late 1800’s. He had 14 children. They were farmers from the Toulouse area. Sadly I never learned French. All my elders called me Couyon because I couldn’t speak the language. Bonjour to you to.
Neil buddy I'm jealous. I've wanted a Groundbuster for years for my food plots but it hasn't been in the cards. I've even looked for an old ag drop spreader that would suit my needs but what I've found is either too wide or in poor condition. I'll have to give the Groundbuster another look because it would be great to be able to haul it on my trailer. Thanks for another great video.
Here is a trick attach a square tube receiver to front of the trailer deck get a receiver mounted winch then just winch the wagon on or whatever piece of equipment you need to load that for whatever reason is unable to power itself onto the trailer also if you add a recessed d ring at the tail end you can drag whatever equipment unable to move itself off. You can setup to use a set of jumper cables to operate the winch from either the tow vehicle or via a secondary power vehicle (ex. A certain yellow deere).
Happy Easter Neil. Once again, I wish you were our neighbor. We're trying desperately to grow a lawn in our front yard. The red Georgia clay is bad enough but setting on the side of a mountain really makes it a challenge. A guy like you would come in real handy around here in so many ways.
Thanks for the info! After using a drop spreader my one and only time, 2 weeks later my lawn resembled a brown and green checkerboard😮😂. I’ve since stuck with broadcast but appreciate the demonstration! Also I used to rent a big roller to get the lawn flat and smooth, that made mowing the grass a pleasure. Keep up the great content! Happy Easter.
Great information. I live in north east Pennsylvania. Our ground is very acidic. We lack sunlight and most of our area was historically a swamp. What I’m getting at is, most people completely give up when fighting their lawn and let the moss take over. I would love to have the grass you folks have out west!
Awesome Video Neil. God i love this channel!! We are plowing with our single Bottom Brinlys in Pennsylvania we did 90 Arces with 270 Garden tractors showing up!
Man that yellow looks so good on the Deere. I’m hopefully picking up a 318 this weekend to start my farm. I really like your videos with your knowledge and how you edit them.
For folks who are interested in US history and old style technology. I am also watching a channel called EngelsCoachShop and he builds and restores old style wagons. Right now he is in the middle of rebuilding an old manure spreader. And at least to me it is interesting to see how the technology has evolved, and how things are still kind of similar compared to the old technology. I was not aware that you are a soil specialist by trade. I am highly interested in methods to improve the soil quality, and I follow a lot of projects, big projects but also small privately owned projects, where people are trying to improve the quality from the soil in the desert or a dry land situation. Is permaculture, which uses a lot of natural applications to improve the soil quality, a thing that is on your radar? For example, are you familiar with Dr. Elaine Ingham, or Dr. David Johnson, or a group called the Carbon Cowboys? All of them are living soil specialists.
No, unfortunately I am not too familiar with those names. We primarily work in the ag industry for our geographic area and thankfully we don't have those challenges. Our main focus is maintaining proper soil fertility and not letting levels get too low or too high.
Not only do I have a recipe that will stop it from growing this season, we can give you years of care free maintenance with just the right potion. I wouldn't allow any children in the area but you won't have to mow at least.
I know you probably don't want to put your kids on the internet but those videos with your girls were like the most fun to watch like I enjoy your videos don't get me wrong but yeah we're the kids❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

That tractor would look awesome sitting anywhere. But it's a pretty scene all the same. Happy Easter from the hills of Kentucky.

Kids in India can sit on that thing.. that’s not risky..
I am a big fan of your stuff man..
I love your style ❤
Hi Neil, Great video with useful informations, nice implement! Wish you a good week!

Hi Neil I love seeing the soil sampling I used to work in waste water sampling in the uk 🇬🇧
I fall in the group of you have one heck of a place its just so well kept .I love it
Thank you sir.
I like new tools and the right tool for the job. Great info on lawn care, I’m in GA and lawn looks bad. Thank you Neil!!
Loved hearing you talk about soil health and fertilizers...way cool, thank you Neil!
Great job keep up the great work love your videos thank you
That is a great product. You didn't mention how tiring it gets to push a full spreader - especially on uneven ground!
This takes me back. In a previous life I worked for a fertiliser manufacturer/import operation in New Zealand.
Nice looking truck sir. And a new tool awesome

Figure out a door on your tri axle gate similar to the gravity wagon lol. Save some running around.

Nice spreader for commercial refined and dry products.
For anything piled up with moisture, it is crying out for a large hopper and vibration.
