Hey Sans!
Oh no it sans from undertale TM I m going to have an unpleasant period
I'd like to express my appreciation towards the amount of time and effort that you put into your videos, compared to almost any other UA-cam channel that I know. The quality of directing and editing here is amazing, and it really feels like you make these videos out of genuine joy and care for the subjects that you cover. So many channels attempt to minmax their view counts and profits by pumping out short, easy-to-make videos, which results in sub-par experiences for the viewers, but when it comes to your channel, I completely enjoy every single aspect of the videos, and feel like I'm getting way more than expected for my time spent on this channel. Please keep up the amazing work, so hopefully more channels are inspired by this one.
Thanks man, comments like yours are a big part of the reason why I do it. :)
I like to thank too just because the quality of your videos is amazing, but can you but your sentry in the apartments if your team already has one in the balcony (someone asked this not my idea) (in defense). Thanks for the video.
Uncle Dane I tried placing a sentry on the last point near the pit on defense and I was actually successful.

Is there a backstory for the name 'Shithouse'?
I mean... look at it. It's awful. I wouldn't want that to be my house, it's shit.
Herbivore The Carnivore Badlands mid also has a callout called "shithouse".
It's a fixerupper.
therefore being a "shithouse"? :D
idk about upward, but the badlands shithouse got it's name from basically being a really small, claustrophobic area that is 'shit' to be in because if you get caught in it youre basically guaranteed to die or take a lot of damage

When you said "you can coordinate with your spy and jump out of this window and wreak havoc" or whatever you said when you were describing offensive strategy, I got an idea for a spy sapper replacement.
Spy weapon
Sapper replacement
+Building is disabled for an additional 3 seconds after sapper is removed
+50% sapper health
+When sapper is placed on a building, the building will be highlighted (wallhacks) for your team and your team will be notified that the building is being sapped
-80% sapper damage penalty
-When sapper is removed, spy is marked for death for 3 seconds
The strategy would be to coordinate with your team to destroy a nest. Instead of the spy taking out the building on his own, he'd act as an actual support class, disabling the building so a power class can come in and just totally wreck everything.
Maybe make it so the spy can't spam the sapper
Otherwise really cool
JuanokuG4 i mean it does say that spy is marked for death once the sap is removed, so the engie can just shotgun the spy when he removes the sap
@@yesno8273 oooooooooooo that's pretty smart
Its fun playing as pyro on this map when the cart reaches a certain area that is near a cliffside, you can airblast your foes to their doom...
I actually used that strat our team was getting rolled and I just held down M2 at the last 5 seconds and we won
How do you do that? When I try, 25% of the time, I just end up knocking them to the place under the tracks and giving them a medium health kit instead of sending them off the cliff.
@PastedA1M If i do that I send them off the cliff instead of to the health? Thanks.
Or shove them (bad idea)
Thank you for this, I border-line spontaneously became the main engi for a highlander team and these videos are so helpful. Thanks uncle.
Hey Dane you should review the map Badwater as it is a very big pubber map as it is also ran in competitive play : ^ )

And I definitely plan on it. It's a 6v6 map now, lol
Uncle Dane The shithouse...
Uncle Dane I think the shithouse should instead be the C house
I made my entire team go engie on this map, twice and both on offense
What we did is we had some engies pushing the cart and some chasing off the enemies at the front lines and between the cart and the front line we’d have engies placing sentries to ward off any enemies, it was flawless
Engineer gaming
Now try having the entire team as Scout on Defense. Some scattergun skirmishers on the front line attacking the Blue team from every possible angle, while shortstops run support to pepper Pyros and minies, as well as spycheck.

Uncle Dane, at some point in the past: "I won't tell you what sentry spots to use, just show you how to pick them."
Uncle Dane now: "So anyway here's the comp meta for Engie"
JoshabitheTogekiss The beginning of the video said he wasn't telling you HOW to engie, he is explaining why certain spots are good in comp. He still wants you to be creative and find your own sentry spots, but it is good to learn from example. Learning about the meta will help you understand it and add to it.
Two times I've won a comp match by having an entire team of battle engineers, there is no sure meta for engie comp.
"Time's change"
I had an weird idea. What if when placing a sneaky mini you put it backwards? imagine this
Normally: 1. Enemy enters the mini's fov 2. Mini fires 3. Enemy notices this 4. Enemy backs up to safety 5. Enemy takes care of the sentry, end of scene
Rotated: 1. Enemy enters fov 2. Mini starts to rotate 3. Enemy continues unaware of sentry 4. Sentry fires 5. Enemy has now no place to hide and hopefully will fall to the sentry.
Sure its unreliable and extremely situational but maybe just something fun to test.
I know. Not much better but if you held the sentry still with the wrangler it doesn't make the noise.
puskajussi37 Wrangler has a big bubble but I love the idea. People ignore sentry sounds on pubs anyways.
Loud beeping noises are still silent when compared to the sound of a revved up heavy, or a soldier firing his rockets. The sounds of fighting on the frontline drown out the sound of a mini-sentry. The biggest concern would actually be the little light on the top of the gun.
The bigger issue with the rotated gun is that it is slower to react. If an enemy does know about it, it's much easier to take out, and the rotation of the gun risks putting the front of the gun outside of where ever you're hiding it based on the shape of the bush/rock/plank/whatever.
I use this trap setup fairly often and it gets me kills I wouldn't have otherwise gotten using the same placements. The gun does beep, but the hit indicators are the much more obvious giveaway to its presence and location. It's not appropriate for every situation, but there are definitely areas where it works out well.
anyone else looking over the fact that you get an audible alert when an enemy sentry targets you? No? Ok.
Can you do a MvM map next?
Herobrine0412. That is a really good idea.
+Damidget utubes it is?
Herobrine0412. Yea, 90% of the time my sentry spots are innefective and my dispenser doesn't help my team... I honestly believe it would be very helpful.
+Damidget utubes wow same a bit
Easy just slap a nest near the robot spawns and win
"Coordinated push"
In pubs.
IN.PUBS.
NO.JUST NO.
Never heard of the "Pub Push"? It's when the game goes into overtime and everyone on blue realizes there's an objective, so they make a last-minute push. It often works.
VestedUTuber I’m using this as official terminology now.
You can get a pub team to cooperate. I usually am the single medic of the team, and since people need me to keep them in the fight I press the mic button and start calling the shots. The key to make them behave is to compliment their performance mid-opperation.
Just let competent players know that you have uber and watch your teammates coordinate on their own

Oh and cp_steel video please. That map is hard.

Apple or maybe because it's the weeks map?
Depends on how you play it. For offense, If you have a decent team, an early push to hold between C, B, and E can be very effective. Your team can effectively push 3 points without you needing to move, and if you have a team that can support you, that spot is very hard to dislodge. A spy can't take your tele since your entrance can be built in spawn (that's the one thing I hate about Steel actually, it renders a spy's ability to take teles completely useless). If you're fast enough, your team can push B from 2 sides, and can also push E if necessary to get the enemy to back off. Alternatively building between D, A, and E is a decent spot too. You don't really need to worry about being flanked, and your team can keep the pressure up for the last 2 points.
I don't have time to go over defense atm, but the standard pub spots usually work fairly well.
Clnr0n05 I disagree, spy is almost useless in steel there are like a thousand ways to play steel as the spy though, 1 is to get a shit log, assist your sniper, keep white room with your soldier or scout, or just being a knife spy.
Gregori meta
I never said spy was useless. I said that the spy's ability to take teleporters is useless for that map. I play spy all the time on Steel.

Great video, Dane. Teaches us about the map and how other people will be playing it, along with how we should play it ourselves
I got an idea for a new construction PDA.
Disposable PDA:
Replaces the dispenser and teleporters with a mini-spenser and speed boosting pad.
The Mini-Spenser:
1 second build time.
50 metal cost.
Can build 2.
5 health/second.
Infinite ammo and metal.
10% ammo regenerated per second.
75 health per Mini-Spenser.
Speed Boosting Pad:
1.5 X walking speed for 1 - 3 - 5 seconds depending on level.
160 metal build cost.
Only 100 metal to upgrade.
50 with Eureka Effect.
(eureka effect increases walkspeed when 'teleporting' to exit)
There is a mini-Spenser currently on the workshop so maybe this idea could get into the game if valve decides to actually update this game
You didn't come up with that, you're just copying the scrapped engineer PDA concept.
8:18 HA! Jokes on you, I wear a unpainted Texas Ten Gallon! Good luck finding a yellow helmet!

Uncle Dane: Your Team should be playing in front of your sentry so it can be a backup dmg boi
Also Uncle Dane:*places sentry right in front of the red tunnel on the 2nd point were it can get spammed*
Holy shit TF2 looks so pretty without high FPS configs installed...
Honestly, the amount of stuff you can get rid of in the advanced video settings feels like cheating.
I watched the Intire video several times now I'm the master engi man on upward. Thank ya unkle dan
I once held second point by placing a level 3 Dispenser and Gun by the tunnel spawn. We had 2 heavies, a medic, a pyro, and myself all holed up in there protecting the cart. It was the first time I played Engineer well in my entire TF2 career, and I was happy.
3min in and I've been playing for about 4 years
and I'm already Fucking mind blown
I don't even like playing as engineer but 90% of the time I am forced to play as one because the teams that I'm paired with neglect to have any sort of Defense so I have to watch your videos not saying they're bad or anything just I don't main engineer so I'm not particularly a good engineer luckily I'm not bad I'm just painfully average
mr. reality Same. If I'm not Medic, then I'm usually soldier or Heavy. I had to play Engie once cause we didn't have one, but after a while, the results remind me of Medic; it's great to help the team.
Plus, it's awesome seeing your sentry kill people.
If my team doesn't have one(and sometimes if they do) I'll go Medic, my personal fave. It's similar to Engineer in that the more passive role plays a much bigger part in the game. And seeing that hp rise and my teamates push ahead makes me feel good, similar to a sentry denying a push.
It definitely feels good to help your teammates out. Even better when you use uber lol.
If there aren't Heavies (and a decent amount of offense classes), then I'll go Heavy to protect the Medic's, basically be their meatsheld and throw sandviches.
All the Medic's become my bitches after a few sandviches.
+Pope Potato I haven't played in awhile (no internet since May, kill me now), but I would always play half pocket by sticking close to the super pro Hale's Own stranges Heavy or Soldier(because they knew to fucking protect me and work together) while healing anyone nearby/in trouble. Otherwise, I just stick with the team. Also can Valve just fucking release an australium kritkrieg?! I've wanted that for over a year, and I have the perfect name! "Wunderwaffe DG3 JZ"
Yeah I usually Main Soldier Spy and medic so I know that feeling of being useful medic
FACEIT has got me playing Upward with more balanced and competent teams lately, so I'm reviewing these videos to up my support game.

A prequel memer? ONE OF US ONE OF US
I'd like to see one of these for a 5 cp map
I love 2 minute videos
I just realized that the engineer can secretly be a mastermind leader through subtle placements of dispensers and teleporters
When i'm playing on Defense and my team is back on last, I like to put my sentry on the two stacked crates in main. It gives Blu quite a shock, and it isn't that easily taken by that corner.
If you're playing on defense as the second engineer on last, i recommend trying to build a lvl 3 sentry in the apartments to protect the sentry on the balcony. And then you can just shoot rescue ranger bolts at it. Then the only place blu team can use to destroy the sentry on the balcony is beneath the point w/ stickies (as long as you keep your sentry up). As a bonus you just completely gain control of the apartments.
12:10 I personally recommend putting the sentry towards the far left corner. That way, the sentry can shoot upwards (get it?) into the house if someone peaks or tries to push through. Just be sure to face more attacks, since moving the sentry farther left means BLU can fire at the sentry without pushing as far forward.

Engineer: "It's over Pyro I have the high ground!"

Uncle Dane did you know there is a small area in front of playground which is perfect to put the teleporter.
I don't recommend it because when you take the teleporter, you appear right in front of where the Blu Snipers are always looking from spawn.
Uncle Dane what about put a sentry here ? Right behind the crates :0

I'm no Uncle Dane, but I would advise against putting the sentry gun there. Seems a little easy to spam out by half-competent demomen without the sentry gun seeing anything.
I like to go there too but as a crouching brass beast heavy, by crouching you are safe from snipers, you don't need to move so the brassbeast is fine. Eventually people start corner shooting me, but then you just relocate and go back there later when they have let their guard down. If I'm feeling bold I'll sometimes pop my head over the corner and hoot a bit that way too.
Pretty good spot, but it doesn't work for too long, because if they find out, they'll spam it

I made a small aggressive strategy on the first point, the long exit out of blu spawn, right outside of that exit but the out of sight place, with a good team that helps kill spies and those that try to break my defence, it works well, if you find a sniper at the other spawn exit, wrangle them, and your primary doesn't matter, I once held a whole match with it, killing spies with the shotgun, but if you wanna be more secure, take the rescue ranger to survive an uber with the me-, mefis-, mefista-? Whatever it's called when you wrangle the sentry and use the ranger to save it. If it doesn't work at first *dont keep trying*, they'll stop you. Hope this helps you in future endeavours. :)
Edit: I forgot to say that that place is where you place the sentry and you keep a dispenser to the exact behind of that room for survivabilty *fp*
Hey Dane, my favorite spot for a nest on Upward is inside of the apartments by the red spawn near the tunnels. It’s an AMAZING spot. Try it. It does encourage a little bit of turtle engie though. Put your sentry gun in the window. Have the dispenser in the corner opposite of the small ammo pack, and put a teleporter exit beside the dispenser. Once again, it’s a good spot.
please put these in a playlist when you´ve made more vids like this

On the second point i like to put my sentry up near the giant B next to the stairs that lead to the small health and amo packs. It covers the point and tunnel exit. You can wrangle the hill and flank pretty easily. Its up high and far from peaking points so its hard to take out if the engie is attentive. Its also hard to uber push because of the distance from the peaking points so if you got the ranger, you can time the pickup and place it in the passive area while they are running for it. By the time the get near the passive area, your sentry is up and theyre outta uber.
When Dane started talking about the bushes for the first point, the only thing that went through my head was when Travingal said “this fucking bush in upward” in that one soundsmith video.
Dane, PLEASE do a guide on the Gunslinger and its uses!

I mean, I saw that video, but...
I have a question. In earlier videos, you mention not wanting to point out specific sentry spots because you fear everyone might use those specific spots and only those spots, and thus you went into what makes a sentry spot "good". Why did you change your mind?
well I mean, in the introduction he did say that the guide should be followed loosely and he has mentioned many building spots in this video, so even if someone were to follow the guide exactly, there's still a lot of different options they can take
Grandmaster Adobe Flash It really doesn't matter. He is telling the spots to make engineers more effective and it is an excellent guide to teach where to put sentries dispensers and teles
Grandmaster Adobe Flash He also gives people a list of different spots, not just one or two. People who want to use his spots are still gonna be varying it up.

In his intro video, he had FAQs. Go read that
