Ben for the minerals rack mount it to one side of the milking stand so you only need to move the milking stand and the cow won't tip over any minerals.
That's what I was going to say. They need access to the back part of the sides to milk but there's no reason they cannot split the minerals in half and put half on each front side.
I love how Joel Salatin and Justin Rhodes inspire the designs and homesteaders, like yourself, perfect and modify it over time to fit your own needs. Teamwork within the homesteading community is a beautiful thing. God bless y’all, and have a very Merry Christmas.
I have been going back and binge watching your videos starting way back at the beginning. I wanted to go back and see your story from day 1 until you get to the new farm . I have been waiting for a new video while binging . Thank you for sharing your life and your journey with us. I have always been more the hands on outside type of girl . I always said mom forgot to tell Daddy I was not a boy . I love to watch you build or work with the lathe and other tools in the shop too .
Nice project. Great you gave it a go! We used to own a coastal farm with mudflats in places. The previous owner told us he deliberately left the access to the mudflats as in spring and autumn the cows went there, not at any other time. They seem to know what they need. 💕💕🌻🌻
In the west where there is open range and one owns a couple thousand acres or more with a few hundred heads of cattle, mineral salt blocks are used for cattle. Usually the salt block is near food source covered shed or water source. The shed protecting it from rain and moisture. Salt blocks come in white or brown (mineral). You just set it, and forget it until another block is needed.
What an amazing impact Mr. Salatin and Mr. Rhodes have made on this community!! Its great to see that their life's work will live on for generations to come! Thank you for sharing this project and best wishes to your family!!
Shame you can't just attach the bins to the outside of the milking stand, she wouldn't be able to tip that over! But it totally eliminates easily taking back and forth to the barn for ease of filling. On to plan B...and maybe C or D. 🤔💕
You might want to use wood burner kit to mark the different minerals. The marker will rub off. She likes it. You might want to show Justin what you did with the wheels. He's been having problems with his working off. Great to see a Video from you all. Can't wait for the next one. Kids barefoot so couldn't be that cold lol. God Bless and Peace from y
Nice project... All you need to do is anchor the legs in the ground to make sure she won't topple the whole mineral stand. Cut angle-iron, screw at the bottom of the wood braces, drill a hole in the angle iron big enough to nail rebar pieces long enough to stabilize the platform. It should hold in place. :)
Mounting to your milking parlor or i would just weigh the cart down with concrete as low as you can get it but not touching the ground. Dont sweat it man, youre building to your specific needs and you have the capability to adjust on the fly. Not man professionals nail it on the first go around with finding ways to improve. Love your videos and family man. I hope to join the community very shortly. My wife and i own 25 acres in Mississippi. Our house is just about finished, maybe another two months to go. Then in three months my wife will deliver out first baby (girl) into the world. But first, i have to have knee surgery. Anyways, like i said im excited and inspired by yall and cant wait to join the homesteading community and continue to learn and grow with yall
This is really fun to watch Ben. It does remind me of the Rhode's mineral shaw. I'm hoping she'll be good to it. It really looks nice. If you could leave it in a heated area for a while it could relax. Yeah, figured out the minerals. I just bought a couple things for the goats and it was expensive. She is going to give you better milk this way! She is happy with it. Wheels off of it and skids on it! Thanks for this Ben and Meg!
So looking forward to this new video. Love to see how much progress you guys have made. I am truly inspired by your diligence , skills and talents. May the Lord continue to bless the works of your hands and your impact on the community. Prayers and love from Singapore.
As everyone else has suggested, mount to the stand. You can mount it at the head gate on either side with a feed/treat tray for when your milking. She knows where to go for food and will be comfortable with that area. The trays would be out of the way for milking at the head gate for free choice.
You could make some kind of connector to attach the mineral sled onto the outside of the milk stand skid. You could use something like a barrel bolt or a gate latch to hold the sled against the skid. Or even something as simple as lined up eye bolts with a bent nail dropped in to hold them together. It would be almost impossible for the cow to tip it over that way and easy to detach it to move with the milk stand.
Here's a tip for free rubber. Go to truck stooscand around the parking lots you will find mud flaps from trailers and trucks that have been knocked off. My husband, a trucker, picked them up all the time. We use them all the time. Cut with a jig saw easily like you found out with the band saw.
Glad she likes her "treats". How about put it against her milking stand and it won't go anywhere as she shoved against it n after milking turn the minerals around so she can get to the other side. You have to do chores 2 xs anyway so it can get turned around at each chore time? Hope that big project is starting on the farmhouse finally😁👍
Hi, I like your videos.I would like to suggest that you use the milking structure to hang those containers. God bless you all, and have a very Merry Christmas.
normally, if they're not eating certain minerals, they are not deficient in them and don't need them. That's the whole idea of feeding individual minerals, they only eat what they're lacking.
Not a disappointment, it's called a learning curve, do what it takes to make the farm animals happy and consume their nutrients,God's Good Blessings to you and your famiiy, love you guys XOXOXOXO
Noticed you have a lot of sawdust around, have you considered scooping it up and making pellets? They can then be burned on fires via stoves or used as part of a biomass heating system. As for the rain I think given the tornadoes in KY you may have some on the way.
I watch this farm wife and they use a plastic 55 gallon drum hung from a rope. They cut the center of the barrel out for the cow to stick its head in and they pour the minerals in the barrel. It keeps the rain out. It also serves as a toy for the cows. Maybe you could do something like that.
Love yall, growing up we had multiple critters that refused individual minerals and had to use mineral and salt blocks. For the kelp every so often feed alfalfa mix the greens with it they love the alfalfa and can't resist it.
Hi Ben, I was thinking the same thing about mounting it to the stanchion too just before you mentioned it in the video but mounted towards the front that would include a feed been so it serves a dual purpose. :)
Nice job Ben but your always pretty handy with tools and converting thoughts into construction. So cool that y'all have said treats so much that she recognized that word. Keep up the good work and God bless you all
Ben, Big fans here. Say I wonder if you designed four cane bolts for your mineral feeder would allow it to stay on wheels? Perhaps made from rebar that could be driven into the ground a foot or 18 inches. If you're not familiar with cane bolts. They are slide bolts usually at the bottom of a gate that slide into the ground or a piece of pipe in the ground to keep it closed. It bends at 90 deg. at the top to make it easy to pull up (through a couple of vertically placed eyes) Your metal working skills would make this a breeze.
I made an insulated water bucket for my horse with a styrofoam lid and taught him to knock the lid of to drink by putting pieces of apple in the empty bucket while he watched and then a piece and put the lid on. Only one apple cut into pieces for him to open lid in seconds. Then when i put it out with warm water he came right over and opened it and looked for the apples. But he still knew where to get water and every time i walked by i replaced the lid to keep water unfrozen. It worked all winter. I tied the lid to the bucket with a long piece of twine so it wouldn’t blow away and spook him.
I absolutely love your cow, LOL you did a great job as usual little tweaks here and there no biggie. I don't think I've ever heard and or have seen a cow answer to treats LOL. I love watching you guys I wish you could just strap a camera to your chest and you'll always have one with you to see all the animals and the kids and such. You guys are awesome looking forward to more videos big hugs
Nice. Instead of taking the wheels off, if you have some old pipe you could attach the pipe to the legs and then drive some repair through the pipe into the ground. Then when you need to move it, lift it off the rebar and wheel it away. When filled lift it and slide it back down over the rebar. Just a thought.
Hi guys! It was nice to get a video. I would enjoy getting to know your kiddos, their names and any interests they may have. God Bless and Merry Christmas!
I don't care what you build or design Ben you can do anything and it will work! Love the design of the supplement feeder! Can't wait to see what that brain of yours comes up with next! Kudos! 👏💖👏
I think you could attach the mineral system to the milking station. That way it's all one unit. And the cow won't be able to knock it over.
I came on here to say the same thing !
💥 Championship.
Ben for the minerals rack mount it to one side of the milking stand so you only need to move the milking stand and the cow won't tip over any minerals.
I agree. you might take half at one lvl and the other 1 ft above.
That's what I was going to say. They need access to the back part of the sides to milk but there's no reason they cannot split the minerals in half and put half on each front side.
Came to make the same suggestion
Exactly my thought. Why does it have to be a separate item?
Great idea!
Bolt your minerals to the side of the stanchion. Then it moves when the stanchion is moved.
I was thinking the same thing
I love how Joel Salatin and Justin Rhodes inspire the designs and homesteaders, like yourself, perfect and modify it over time to fit your own needs. Teamwork within the homesteading community is a beautiful thing. God bless y’all, and have a very Merry Christmas.
So funny that she recognized treats. She is a smart mama!
Mama cow approved.
Your so awesome in building Ben Thk u for showing us how you do things.
I love it! December and the boys are STILL barefoot!!!
Love watching projects around the homestead 👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you, Mr. Salatin and Mr. Rhodes for helping our community homestead world learn together
Thank you Meg and Family for the speedy delivery of the skin care and lip balms❣️
So happy to see your video pop up. I always enjoy seeing what's happening at the Hollar homestead. Take care and God Bless. ❤

We like your Homestead, very much a hard working family.
You and Meg have a sweet creation, thank you for sharing your story 🌸.

Good afternoon beautiful family!! 😍 We love you.❤💚❤💚
Love that cow. They are so smart. From Ontario
Genius cart! Love all your projects! Be blessed beautiful people!!!
That mineral wagon would be great for my goats!
She is so calm, she is a great mother!
That's pretty neat, a Treat Cart for your cow.
That's great!
you have had no rain and here in my part of Canada it only has snowed about 3 times and nothing on the ground the mineral bin looks great hugsssssss
You made my day complete by getting video up......you all are one of 3 favorite homesteads..

Lucky Momma cow. God bless your home stead.
Now that was PRECIOUS! Every girl loves treats! Put it on the the portable barn/milking station!
Miss you all lol we need more videos👍🏻
Ben you are so creative I miss biggie your boys are so smart and getting so handsome too hugs and prayers and much love ❤️
Oh my goodness!! So sweet, you guys said treat and she came over and took what she needed. What a great cow you guys got🐂❤
Ben it was your compost that inspired me. I have 4 plastic pallets tied together now. Bloody wonderful, garden is going to that's us both dude👍
I think she liked it! Hugs...❤❤ seriously, you and Jason @SowTheLand are awesome at designing your own farm implements (?) to fill your needs!
Too adorable. Good work y'all. Watch the weather, be safe.💚
Another great idea adapted to a homestead. Great Job.
Yup... she definitely understands the word “Treats”! 😁👍
That was so sweet that she immediately came over to get her treats.
Shame you can't just attach the bins to the outside of the milking stand, she wouldn't be able to tip that over! But it totally eliminates easily taking back and forth to the barn for ease of filling. On to plan B...and maybe C or D. 🤔💕
Drill holes and stake it. Great video

Great little mineral feeder she obviously loves it and the theory is they only take what they need so should serve everyone really well.
It’s a mighty fine workshop you have there, what every guy needs when your on a farm.
So happy every time I see a new video! Just love you kids 💕

Wow….well done Hollars…..garden looking so neat and organized ready for the next planting season🙏
Prettiest cow/calf pair on the internet! 😊 Loving all you share from North Idaho zone 6a 🌿 🐄💚
So glad you are safe after all the tornados coming thru the area. Worried about Justin and family and others also.
God bless the hollar family 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏💕
Hi..... Meg and Ben nice to see you, thank you for showing your video homestead chickens duck farmer garden 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 👕🐔🐓🐥🐖🐄🌱🏡🎥👍👍👍

Why not just attach it to the milking stanchion? Save having to move two pieces of equipment by combining them into one.

Nice cart Ben.
I think its great I neeed that for my chickens . They for fighting for food and one is getting real fat . Your invention is perfect. Thank You
Shows how much she was in need of those minerals! Delicious and nutritious milk to come!
My cows recognize certain words too. Aren't they awesome creatures!
I really like how while learning what you might not have known and adapt it to your own style.
Hi, I like your videos.I would like to suggest that you use the milking structure to hang those containers. God bless you all, and have a very Merry Christmas.
Smart, pretty mama. Been so dry here but rained a lot today and tornadoes close by in Kentucky. So sad.
Try mixing salt (which they need) in with the minerals. It works like a charm. 💕
normally, if they're not eating certain minerals, they are not deficient in them and don't need them. That's the whole idea of feeding individual minerals, they only eat what they're lacking.

Wonderful, beautiful, and lovely. Great job 👏🏾. 👍🏾🏀.
Impressive wood love that you milled your own.

Loved seeing the woodshop!
Oh the baby calf is growing so fast and very pretty I enjoy y’all video
Great video! Thank you
HEY YALL
JUST MOUNT IT ON THE MILK SHED, GOES WHERE SHE GOES, ALL MOVES TOGETHER, SHE CANT TURN IT OVER OR STEP ON IT, TAKE CARE
Boy you are raising some tuff boys. Everyone is bundled up and one has no shoes on lol. Reminds me of when I was growing up.
Love yall, growing up we had multiple critters that refused individual minerals and had to use mineral and salt blocks. For the kelp every so often feed alfalfa mix the greens with it they love the alfalfa and can't resist it.
Put a couple of conduit clamps on each corner and use them as guides for a piece of rebar at each corner, driven into the ground to make it stay put.
She's such a sweet cow 💝 I'm so happy for your family
Install a board across the front legs about 2 foot wider than than the cart on both sides. About 1" off the ground so it has a wider stance.
You can attach it to your milking stanchion. And that way you only have one item to move.
Hi Ben, I was thinking the same thing about mounting it to the stanchion too just before you mentioned it in the video but mounted towards the front that would include a feed been so it serves a dual purpose. :)
Nice job I would like to suggest that you place a 1x2 wood strip holding the rubber down, the cows may pull the rubber up through the screws
Nice job Ben but your always pretty handy with tools and converting thoughts into construction. So cool that y'all have said treats so much that she recognized that word. Keep up the good work and God bless you all

You could add flip out stabilizers like you see on a gate-legged table and then you could leave the wheels on it.
I absolutely love your cow, LOL you did a great job as usual little tweaks here and there no biggie. I don't think I've ever heard and or have seen a cow answer to treats LOL. I've been so busy guys so I have missed like 12 episodes... But now I'm binge watching everything!
Love as always from Sweden
You should maybe attach it to your waterer...
Hi guys! It was nice to get a video.
I would enjoy getting to know your kiddos, their names and any interests they may have.
God Bless and Merry Christmas!
Love your idea for the minerals, but, Harold D left a comment that was awesome. Attach to the milking stand.
You all please take care and be safe
Good morning beautiful family. Love watching you. I don’t care what it is I’ll always watch you. Day 1 fan🥰😘
Ben maybe attach it to the stanchion somehow? Glad to see yall are doing good.
Almost looks like she is saying thank you. 😊 🐮
I don't care what you build or design Ben you can do anything and it will work! Love the design of the supplement feeder! Can't wait to see what that brain of yours comes up with next! Kudos! 👏💖👏
