I love this homestead! You cook, bake, can, freeze, dry preserve, roast, smoke, make cheese, plant & harvest a big garden, take care of a large family, YOU ARE AMAZING! So is the rest of the family. ❤
I love these types of videos done in a homestead kitchen. I love seeing how people USE the food they produce and grow, not just how they grow and produce the good. Loved it and I’m dreaming of my future milk cow 🤩

Ahh, just watching you two walk the property reminded me of when you guys first bought the property and would walk and talk about your dreams💜!! What a great video guys! Meg, you are a Wonder Woman in your kitchen and Ben is Superman outside😘! Love you guys!
And eventually after the tree orchard is going strong we’ll cut back to this episode and remember them standing there, day dreaming of the event. awesome
Fresh churned butter on homemade bread in the morning with a cup of coffee with home made bacon and fresh collected eggs cannot be beat. The flavor is amazing, the smell is something you dream of, you are so very lucky. Little Buggy Bear will be a hand full when she gets bigger. You and yours are truly blessed, love watching your channel, keep up the awesome work. When things slow down a little Meg will you be showing us your knitting skills later on?
I am so honored that my handy work made it into a vlog for all to see. I am so glad you are enjoying the chicken towels I embroidered. The towel looked good on camera. I was not sure you got the box. Looks like you did. That vlog made my day. Thank you so much.
Your beautiful ❤️🌟 BLESSING of towels remind me of the kind my oma GRANDMOTHER from GERMANY. She would make them and mail them to us. I wish I had some. She made hankies for me. I have everyone of them. They are so lovely. 60 years old. And look brand new. I APPRECIATE YOUR WISDOM and TALENTS. GOD BLESS YOU BRIDGET. CHOW FROM SE MICHIGAN ✝️🛐🌹🇺🇸🌹🀄🀄🀄🌹🌹🌹💐
I am so glad that times have changed. 21 years ago when my husband and I decided to live like your family everyone thought we were insane. Now everyone wants to live like we do. You are doing amazing.
My MIL was horrified when she saw where we moved to in the country! Then we got goats, chicken and turkeys! Now she tells everyone how awesome we have it!!❤️
Meg is back! This reminds me of your first couple of years of UA-cam, you are such a happy camper and so enjoyable to listen to. Hard times are behind you! Happy days are here again!
I have also noticed and welcome back her increasing presence in the vlogs. But also acknowledge she's had her attention and energy focused on enabling her daughter to grow and flourish in those crucial early months of life.
So, you had to do the pew pew pew on Peppy LaPew? 😂 I'm thankful the dingos didn't get to the birds. Meg, please rest when you can. Big hugs! Big respect! Big love! ☮️💖🙏✝️✌️😘
Look at you making cheese, baking bread ,curing and smoking bacon 👏👏👏 well you got that old house you could take one of those rooms since you don't heat the place and making a cheese room to age your cheese. Great video as always so stay safe stay strong stay healthy God bless and enjoy life🌻✌💖💪👨🍳🎅🚌👍
I grew up on farm. We raised all our food. Garden, cattle, pigs in chickens. All we ever knew. Mama and daddy worked full time jobs besides. We had a wood stove until I was about 10yrs old I churned every Saturday and made butter. Great way to grow up. I'm 79yrs old now. Daddy had a garden every year till he passed away at age 85. Mama always canned vegs and made jellies and jams.
Meg you amaze me doing all the scratch stuff with Buggy. Homemade bread, smoking your own bacon, and fresh cheese. Your family will not go hungry with you around. Ben you have really taken to all the animals like you have done this all your life!! Plus you brought your mechanic and knife skills. Add milling your own wood it’s just fantastic how you have built this healthy self sufficient homestead. Your boys look so happy and Buggy couldn’t be cuter. Carry on my (ex) fellow Californians.
Nice to see that your farm is becoming more diversified in terms of your stock. You folks have done a stellar job in turning an old farm into a real homestead. Congratulations! I know that there is a lot of work ahead but you're getting there quickly. May God continue to bless you!
@@TheHollarHomestead Hi Meg, What lights did you install in your kitchen? I am redoing my 1991 mobile home and will be replacing the lights. I need to know what recessed lights you used? Are they LED (I hate LED bad for eyes) Is that all that can be installed in a mobile home ceiling? I should probably be asking Ben?? Lol. Are you happy with the lights in your living room the recessed lights?
Pamela remme they are not recessed. We have track lighting and hanging lights. They are LED, sadly, but that’s all we could find. We got them from Lowe’s.
That bacon looks amazing! Cheese like that is so good. I make it sometimes with store milk. Meg, I don't think anyone could ever pin the word "lazy" to you. You are always doing for your family. Creating good eats and storing them for the winter is a lot of work but rewarding work. Bless you all.
I am not amazed at how far you have come as if you can leave bksfld and travel a year and get back on your feet in several ways you can do all of this and you HAVE!!! You are an amazing couple with amazing tenacity to get the job done and use the gifts God has gifted you with. A beautiful life, beautiful family and you've only just begun............God bless!!
When it’s growing season for the orchard you can spray the whey as a bug spray on the trees and developing fruit. Ooo, one other item draw the mulch about two inches away from the trees. Yea for the Guinney hogs!
I love this episode! You are doing ALL the things; Bacon, cheese, chickens, orchards, raising kids. This is everything! Nice to hear Meg narrating some of the episodes again too!
I never want your podcast to end cause it's so interesting to see all the things you're doing!!! Often I watch it 2 or 3 times! Glad you're going to raise Guinea hogs!!! Meg, your cheese making was so interesting. Anxious to see more goodness you use the milk for!!! When you said you'd been lazy about making bread and getting bacon ready to smoke, I thought, you girl, are never "lazy"! You and Ben (and boys) are the hardest working people I know!! I love your podcasts so much. I'm so happy watching you grow your farm!!! Sad hearing the Skunk got some of the meat birds but so glad Meg woke up to know something was happening. The whole time I was just thankful that didn't happen when the boys and Ben were at the Rhodes campout!🙏
The Hollar family. I'm so happy for you guys, you and your family are so awesome and I appreciate all the homestead knowledge that you all offer to the future homesteaders. God bless you and your family.

Absolutely the most productive family ever. Love your videos and I am amazed of the amount of food prep and storage. This winter you will certainly enjoy all your hard work.
Seeing your orchard in that almost panaramic shot proved how big it actually is. The last time we saw it you really couldn't tell how many of those "sticks" there were in the ground. Meg, I feel you for the impatience of wanting them to be big enough to enjoy the fruit. I can see picnics under their shade and maybe a roadside stand to sell the excess.
I make that cheese-we call it fresh farmers cheese- I form it into a loaf and slice for sandwiches, home made bread, slice of farm grown ham, and a fresh tomato from garden. YUM!
Only got 11 chickens?! That would kill me. Chucks flock is also eating the fly larva. That's so great. I hate flies! Thanks for the cheese lesson. Looking forward to more.
It`s so great that you planted an orchard. When watching homesteading videos I always wonder why people only focus on animals and vegetables - trees can provide so much food und also shade and fodder for the livestock. When planning a homestead I would certainly plant a lot of trees in the first years also nut trees! Black Walnut ist great and provides lot's of protein. Apples, Pairs, Cherries ... Nice Greetings ...
Your homestead has really gone next level !! So awesome. May I suggest Guinea fowl. They are awesome at alerting & even running off a lot of predators. We have 16 & they truly WORK the homestead. Will NOT destroy your garden while snacking on bugs. They eat mice , ticks etc.
Hey! First of, y’all’s happiness is so contagious!!🤎 I raised show calves and I have a halter breaking tip for your calf that might be helpful! We would leave a rope halter on the calf all time. Whenever they step on the lead it teaches them to listen to that end of the rope (where you hold) therefore listen to you! And a longer lead means easier to catch also:) hope this helps!!🤎🪶
Looks great . The animals are coming along, the children are so adorable and that baby is the cutest , dirty baby . Wish we had smell a vision for that bacon .
When Ben took it out of the smoker, I inhaled, then laughed because...no smellavision! Lol (omg, spellcheck didn't correct smellavision!, it must be legit!)
I'm so happy you guys are back to making videos! I totally get why you did not do much over the summer. It's a busy time. Definitely missed your videos.

@The Hollar Homestead thank you both for the nice easy going vlog, walk around your lil farm, stories about the skunk, and bit on bread, bacon, how cheese how to and suggestion of hot pea soup for dinner. It felt like a nice visit with y'all. And the weather looked beautiful, looking past you on the drive, all green and sunshine. Have a great evening ❣ .
That’s amazing !! 😍😍😍 Meg you are so amazing and great cooker (I can tell by the video & family’s reactions) !! Y’all amazing and so hardworking!! 🤩 can’t wait to see the full vision of your ideal farm one day in the future 😍🥰 God Bless y’all and may you keep your family & animals happy and healthy 😌😊
My wife and I have been so happy to see you guys more frequently since the HOA. You guys have been our favorite channel for several years now and have thoroughly enjoyed watching your journey and watching your homestead grow.
I'm so happy you stopped watching the news and are putting video's out again. I learned how to make cheese today. Sorry you lost chickens to the skunk. Your a strong positive woman, you made cheese, bread, and were getting ready too cook dinner. Amazing! I'm so thankful you have all those boys to wash all those dishes for you. Because you do deserve to rest.
Hi - you might want to remove the grass from around the trees in the orchard, or the grass will steal both water and nutrients and the trees grow much slower. Just remove the grass, cover the earth with paper or moss, and putt cut grass on top around the trees. I did this with one of my roses, and kept up the cover over several years, and the rose is now three times as big and had lots of flowers.
Wood chips make an excellent mulch around your fruit trees. Put a cylinder of hardware cloth around each tree to protect from rodents and then eight inches deep of wood chips surrounding the tree out as far as the drip line. Keep expanding the chip mulch as the drip line expands and keep the mulch deep/thick.
Thank you for Sharing Daisy with all of us who dream of daily family cow! I live 6 miles from from the banks of plum creek (yes Laura Ingalls wilder) we have land but it’s raw. No barn no fencing no cover crop I live in zone 4b so winter is harsh. Husband and I don’t know what we’re doing we’re just watching the Homestead community on UA-cam and trying to learn all we can as we go. We see homesteaders with infrastructure fencing barns putting in infrastructure the money that takes …the money we don’t have…. And yet we see your family doing it making it seem possible and tangible that you don’t have to have these immaculate set ups to live the life that’s in our hearts. So thank you! The homesteader UA-cam community is super inspiring but the practical application piece sometimes is missing and I feel like your family brings that so I just wanted to say thank you 🤗 Thank you for bringing “done and not perfect” to our home as encouragement ❤️
I just remembered something that Joel Salatin said about animal rotation and soil…he talked about how his farm had had many large rocks showing above the ground some sticking a foot or more….and now the soil has built up and covered them 😊
🍎🥬🌼🥒💐If you haven't picked someone yet, I could really use these great seeds- would love them and use them!! So happy your cow wasn't injured much, except her udder, and how it heals quickly. Thankful the cow and calf made it safely there!!🐄🐂
Meg, I like your idea of using the clothes pin to hold the bag shut. I usually keep two or three in my pocket before I go outside. To me,it is like a third hand. I really like your method of making simple cheese. I also like the idea of putting herbs in your cheese for various flavoring .
Tip: wash your curds & it won’t taste like vinegar. You can use lemon or lime as well & not rinse it. When I do that I add hot peppers & garlic. So good with tacos!
Your homestead is so much more complete with the cows being there and I love how the little one looks at what her big brother is doing and wanting to get in and do what they are doing. You have such a good set up there now on the farm. In such a short time that you have lived there look how far you have come, fantastic. Have a great day Holler Homestead.
I have made this cheese too many times to count with our goats milk. What I discovered was that I could make raw (fresh) milk cheeses that did come out softer and more moist. It melts, too if done right. You can Play with reducing the temperature below what would pasteurize the milk. I would freeze what I didn’t need. My favorite flavors are chipotle chive and garlic dill, using freeze dried herbs.
Thank you for a fab update, you guys have so much going on and make it all look like such fun. The children look like they are loving life on the farm as do you both. Keep up the good work :)
This was just simply an easy (and informative) and enjoyable vlog to watch. Thank you for letting me use your vlog to relax and detach my from daily drama. All the best to you, your family and your expanding homestead!
Thanks so much guys for this. It was great to see Meg making the easy cheese. Critters look very happy. I wish I could smell the bacon you guys smoked. Take care.
I knew I shouldn't watch this hungry as I am. I'm salivating like a spring fountain!! Well done you guys. Closing my eyes and feeling the taste and smell 😁
Thanks a lot Meg. That was a very simple way to make cheese, even I can do it. I think you should have put the cheese in the title so people can find the video. 🌹🇬🇧
I am so proud for y’all and your family. I have been watching your journey since y’all began your homesteading. You channel is one of my favorites! Keep up the great work! 👍🏻❤️
Love you guys! I also love the 'walk and talks' at the end of the videos, every once in a while. The boys looked like they were having a ball. Isn't it awesome to see what kids can get up to when the screens and devices are put away!?! It's great to see all the critters. Biscuit is about as cute as I can stand! xo Heather🇨🇦
Such a beautiful calf and cow. Meg, I'll have to try making cheese like you did today. I am perfecting mozzarella and curd cheese. So far cream cheese is okay. Cottage cheese is a goal too. If you have a video on cream cheese or Cottage cheese those would be so cool.
I love my auto stirrer and my alarm temperature cable that I just throw into the pot while the stirrer protects it. I can seriously multitask with my helpers 8 cups milk to 1/3 cup vinegar is my combo. Love it best with dill and Himalayan pink salt with about a tablespoon of butter. Best warm …
I love this homestead! You cook, bake, can, freeze, dry preserve, roast, smoke, make cheese, plant & harvest a big garden, take care of a large family, YOU ARE AMAZING! So is the rest of the family. ❤
mmmmm mozzarella.... hand crank ice cream.... yoghurt.... so many great things to do with fresh milk ...

That's what we call in Puerto Rico, requesón. DELICIOUS!!! Fresh cheese, bacon and bread, what more can you ask for? 😋
You are one busy lady
That’s amazing !! 😍😍😍 Meg you are so amazing and great cooker (I can tell by the video & family’s reactions) !!
Y’all amazing and so hardworking!! 🤩 can’t wait to see the full vision of your ideal farm one day in the future 😍🥰 God Bless y’all and may you keep your family & animals happy and healthy 😌😊
My wife and I have been so happy to see you guys more frequently since the HOA. You guys have been our favorite channel for several years now and have thoroughly enjoyed watching your journey and watching your homestead grow.
Daisy and Biscuit they thrill me! It’s like now your homestead is so much more complete with the cows being there😀
So much yes!🐮 ...And the CHEESE 🙌
I'm so happy you stopped watching the news and are putting video's out again. I learned how to make cheese today. Sorry you lost chickens to the skunk. Your a strong positive woman, you made cheese, bread, and were getting ready too cook dinner. Amazing! I'm so thankful you have all those boys to wash all those dishes for you. Because you do deserve to rest.
Wonderful family, wonderful day. Thanks for thee walk about. Everything is looking so good. I hope y'all have a Blessed weekend.

Awesome yall! Chickens are screaming no pants is perfectly acceptable.🤣
I love watching Meg cook! Who knew cheese was so easy? 🥰
Making cheese, bread, and bacon all in the same video! Woot!!!
Now, make them into a sandwich! Amazing!
It's the time of the year when all the work goes to storage. Well done. 👍👍💞
Thankful the cow and calf made it safely there!!🐄🐂
EVERY THING IS GOING WELL ON THE HOMESTEAD, GREAT
My favorite cheese I add a bit of cream (cottage cheese) serve with canned sliced peaches
So fun to meet all of the animals and see your kitchen updates and recipes!
Thank you for the farm tour. I remember when you started this adventure. Y'all have truly created a beautiful life. ❤
You guys are a lot of fun! I love your wife. She’s such a blessing! God bless you all.
I'd wrestle a Bigfoot for a slab of that bacon. Lol. Split pea soup sounds really good, and that fresh homemade bread would be to die for.
Just love this family. I find you very enjoyable in my younger days I did canning and gardening. Made small batches of wine.
Awww buggy is walking 💞 She's getting so big 👸
You and yours are truly blessed, love watching your channel,
Love you guys! I also love the 'walk and talks' at the end of the videos, every once in a while. The boys looked like they were having a ball. Isn't it awesome to see what kids can get up to when the screens and devices are put away!?! It's great to see all the critters. Biscuit is about as cute as I can stand!

There are lots of cheese channels on YT with tutorials.
Best warm …
I love watching your channel
