I spent 3 days and got my Yukon Gold potatoes harvested....waiting til next week to start pressure canning and dehydrating them. Freezing apples for pie filling today. In 10 days it will be time to harvest the Katahdin potatoes. I will squeeze in time somewhere to finish up the tomatoes. yes, it is a lot of work, esp. for a 72 yr. old, but SOOO nice to have our own food all year long and not have to drive to the grocery and pay the exorbitant prices for food that is not as healthy. You are teaching your young children the RIGHT way to do things. Keep up the great work. God Bless. And HAPPY BIRTHDAY BUGGIE
So amazing... so inspiring... BEAUTIFUL family! Those children are EXTREMELY Blessed! The boys... so precious... and now buggy! The two of you... it's overwhelming how amazing of a family you are!!!
🎂Happy Birthday Buggie😘🤩 It is amaizing how time flies. Soon you have to watch her every move when she takes off in her new found freedom, walking. I have got tired just to watch you Meg processing all that food. You are a GEM. Also most of the time carry Buggie on your back as you work. Just be careful not to do damage to your back. Love you guys. See you soon.
Happy Birthday, Buggy! I can’t believe she’s a year old. She is a precious little girl. I can tell she’s got the boys wrapped around her little fingers. So cute watching them with her. Y’all stay safe and healthy. Blessings, Love & Hugs from Vicki in Ft. Worth, Texas 🇺🇸👍❤️🥰🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

Maybe also prepare for a bedroom extension since the baby is going to need containment space. Extra bedroom space for you and baby and extra storage for food.

It is extremely refreshing to see your family doing something as simple yet Hardwork no doubt about it, as canning and gardening and preserving eat up for the winters call me together, with such a happy joyful attitude!! No fighting no fussing no grumbling from the kids just an understanding that we’re a team and a job needs done and we’re all going to do it together and we’re all going to benefit from OUR ACCOMPLISHMENT!! I am I say “Mommy,@ “ you are the best multitasker I’ve ever seen for sure❣️ The amount of tomatoes that you cut up for canning, I think you said 29 pounds who is so refreshing to see, as it’s been years since my mother canned tomatoes!! IA loved watching the juice and the seeds fall over her hands and she put them into the canisters fresh, waiting for them to boil for canning in the jars. You work so fast and without any distractions it appears although, you clearly interact with your children and husband, but I think you are the most accomplishing woman in multitasking I have ever seen❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈 You were always doing four and five different things at the same time and I honestly don’t know anyone who is not really doing that number of items but the quantity that you were working with. I was from a family of 12 children and how much time you could hold a pan of peas to remove the stem and open the pod and push those little peas out into another bowl, you were involved in canning…After that it was tipping beans which seem to long progression before the next phase. Regardless, I don’t ever remember as larger production is what I see you doing, and I’m sure it had to be because of the size of our family plus we help feed my cousins family as my uncle was often ill and unable to work. Mom must’ve been doing it somewhere else with Grandma, especially as we purchased a different farm when I turned 10 and that was the tiniest kitchen and you have three times the size my mother had until our new home was built which wasn’t for another 10 years completed. Anyway I just want to acknowledge your amazing accomplishments and talent and just say that as a woman who grew up doing that and still does some of that, I greatly admire you😊❣️❣️I also admire the camaraderie between your husband and yourself as you work together with your children that is NOT an easy interest to develop in your relationship, & yet, the Both of you seem to command a mutual respect for each other as you worked in the kitchen not only in how are you talk to each other and the children, but working as a team and helping one another to complete task. It’s refreshing to see when so much of the world is focused on everything but what your family is doing. I hope people are watching and taking this all in so that they may establish new ways of doing things in their home even if they should just start with one Blessing at a time, they see from your videos. It is truly a remarkable gift of love and joyful respect for what God has blessed your farm with as well as each other❣️❣️

Dear Meg and Ben, You did such an awesome job on your house. You are like living in a palace, and Meg, in your videos when you first started youtube, I just loved listening to you explaining your life in ways I could understand. I've loved watching your videos over 3 years now, all of you could be my grandkids. Corbin and Buggy really look like twins, 8 years apart. I miss your videos. Love from Fort Myers!
FYI: lady on 1870 homestead uses a turkey roaster to prepare some of her garden harvest for canning. Sets it on low and cooks vegetables overnight to get a head start for.the next day. Blends zucchini with almost every veggie in her garden. Apparently, zucchini is easy to absorb flavor of other produce and spices. She has afood processor attachment for her Kitchen Aid mixer which she uses to grind up the zuccini.
DID YOU KNOW that after cutting the corn off the cob, you can take the "back" of your knife and scrape down on the cob and remove some wonder juice along with small pieces of corn. This adds LOTS of flavor to your canned corn. Love watching you!
I love watching your wife put food away! She has skills! And I love hearing the stories of how she learned doing things growing up. So precious. ❤️ Thanks for sharing!
Evening Beautiful HH Family 👋. Happy Birthday Beautiful Lily Bug🎂🍨🌻. Y'all are blessed with a beautiful family. Thanks for sharing another great video. And for reminding me of those special canning memories with family. Proud of y'all for keeping it real. Hoping y'all didn't get any damage from the storms. Stay safe beautiful people. God Bless y'all and the homestead 🙏✌❤😊
Don't throw away the corn leaves and the hairs, in Korea we turn those into tea and drink them, it's known to keep your gums healthy, it's really good, you boil them with water, take the leaves and hairs out and keep it in refrigerator and I usually drink it cold but old people drink them room temp or hot.
It’s know to be good for people who’s on a diet as well benefits, I left a you tube video, you don’t need to understand the language to know what their doing.
I'm not sure if you've thought about this, it just popped into my brain watching Meg. Your "farm house" down the hill. I know Meg uses it for her soap "stuff". But maybe with a little work, not sure how sturdy the roof is, it can become a giant food processing plant. Lol. Meg is working so hard, but it might be a little easier if she had more room. Long counters around the walls, and one big one down the center of the room. Two or three cooktops to have more than one canning pot going at one time. Three dehydrators so less time waiting between batches. And the putting up food would be faster. And Then, you could even invite friends to use your processing kitchen for their canning. In my "vision" two or three family's helping with all the kitchen work, so one person isn't slicing 30lbs a tomatoes by themselves, because there's no more counter space or cook pots. Lol, just a vision...kind of like the giant kitchen in the show Downton Abbey. It would be better than Meg would've had it 200yrd ago. An outdoor processing kitchen would barely be four posts and a roof. Maybe a wall on the windward side, lol. Especially in hot and muggy North Carolina at summers end.
She doesn't do her soaps down there as they lost power (the power pole went down) and the power company told them they would have to pay for a new pole etc. So no power to the farm house.
@@SagebrushRambles OH? I missed that some how. Power poles are expensive. But they cook with propane anyway. And a generator can provide light. Might be time to look into solar power. Even if it's just for out buildings.
🙋🏼♀️🕊. With the little ladybug 🐞 coming last year , and trying to get used to the land , sometimes you have to balance what you have. They will get to the house when it falls into place, The Team will get to it, You all are just making it work ,blessings 💐

So awesome! Just can't believe Bugge is a year old, seems like last week. Congrats, to the lucky little girl who has such a lot of handsome big brothers and two awesome parents. God bless you all. I can remember when the chicken walked thru the backdoor and into the house in Cali.........LOL Long ago and far away it seems now. God bless for this new season of life for all of you!
It says August 16th but it was released on September 2nd? Happy Birthday Lillianne! (sp?) She is sooooo cute. Wow, nice job of using the chickens backs to make broth and meat! Elderberries too! And dehydrating peppers! Amazing how much you guys do in food preservation! Really cool to watch. Wow, that's a lot of corn! Yay, pigs will love the husks and the cobs. I cut the kernels off and bag them and put that in the freezer. It's so nice to have sweet corn for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter! I've never frozen a whole cob. I blanch it and cut it off the cob just like you did. Cool, purple potato pasta. Beautiful jars of corn. I love that pop sound too. That is one huge pot full of cut tomatoes! Thanks for this guys!
Ben you are a lucky man. A beautiful family and a beautiful wife who not only loves to cook and provide for her family but enjoys it! Happy Birthday Buggy! peace, y'all
The work ethic of both of you is amazing. Your skills also assure that your homestead will be successful and no one needs to advise you unless you ask. Thank you for the inspiration.
Happy born on day little one. Time for an outdoor kitchen. I can outside on the patio with propane burners, keeps the heat and humidity outside. I just finished peach preserves, its amazing how much one tree can produce. God Bless.
Meg and Ben, my last year of high school ended in May of 1963, but thereafter, in Arkansas where we lived, the vegetables would soon be coming. The strawberries would come off first -- in late May and June. My grandpa had LOTS of strawberries which we all helped pick and he sold the majority of them. But, there were always more than we could possibly process and freeze, etc. My mom always made lots of jelly and preserves. When the corn, green beans, okra and tomatoes came off, we made (and canned vegetable soup. I'll never forget mixing up the soup starter fixings -- my youngest sister stirred the vegetables together in a #3 Washtub (new and well scalded), and then mom would stay up all night making sure the jars of vegetable soup were processed in the pressure canner. We did something similar about 30 years ago, but I'm past the age now that I am able to do all that stuff. I wish I were able to do that stuff, but I'm not. We're in the midst of trying to get our roof replaced now and it's a real pain in the neck! We always cut our corn off the cobs similar to what you were doing, but we didn't even have a Bundt pan back then! LOL!
We used to get corn, in the shucks.. by the long bed pickup bed load (like 1970's, 8 foot pickup bed). and have two grandmothers, uncle, cousins, mom, dad, sibling.. and a full weekend of shucking, silking, cutting, canning..
I love it that the whole family is pitching in! Nothing is wasted-even the pigs get a little snack. Happy Birthday Buggy! Hard to believe it’s been a year. She is such a good baby. 🌷
Happy Birthday, Buggy xox Home grown corn this winter is gonna rock. You guys are awesome. Love the homestead way of life. You all rock xx Keep up the good work. Many blessings to you and your family.
Happy Birthday Buggy!! My favorite part of this video was the timelapse of you all shucking the corn and buggy right there in the thick of it and taking turns on all the laps. That is how I was raised with mom and grandma canning every year and I have so many happy memories and felt so loved through it all. You guys are doing it right!!
Uploaded five minutes ago! Wow. I've never been this early. Now to watch, lol. ~ Done! ~ Dang, I love you guys. My mom was raised on a farm, grew up to be a choir director and dress shop manager. Somehow, she still managed to bring a bit of farm life to our home, including canning or even just blanching vegetables for freezing. Your family brings back so many memories and helps me appreciate my mom's efforts much more. Happy Birthday to your little Bug Bite! She's adorable on the floor, playing with her own ear of corn at one point. And Ben, I love it when you show up in the videos with your hair down! Please don't ever cut it short.
PS- Your baby daughter is SO EVENLY TEMPERED Oh around all of you and though she clearly likes to be held and loved on, she has her own sense of autonomy and independence oh… Not at all demanding constant attention and constant “Her Way” only, as so many toddles act out! This is a direct result of the harmony between mom and dad and the rest of the family! Again I applaud you for the peace and love and joy that this baby girl found upon her arrival into your home as well as receives from all of you and her contentment is a testimony of all of that & for ALL YOU DO IN & FOR YOUR FAMILY😊♥️❣️ So proud and honored to be able to watch your videos. Good luck with the rest of your garden and fall season harvest❣️🥕
So good to watch your family working together to get the winters food ready. Happy Birthday baby girl, you are growing like a weed. I wish you all the best of the harvest and have a Blessed day.
@@toothaching the taco soup is (for a small pot) 1 lb ground meat of your choice seasoned for tacos, 1 medium onion, 1/2 cup of black beans and red beans, and 1 cup pinto beans 8 oz of corn and 1 packet of ranch dip seasoning, 1 - 2 quarts of diced tomatoes, one can of rotel if you like the spice. I scale it up by 10 or so and it's super forgiving. The chicken pot pie is chicken roasted, taken off the carcass, and diced 2 cups diced carrots, 2 cups peas, I make broth from the carcass with parsley, rosemary, thyme, etc and use that with a bit of cornstarch slurry to make a gravy. But for canning I omit the cornstarch until I'm ready to make it for dinner. It makes good soup when thin, and thickens easily once heated in a pot. Just follow the meat canning guidelines for the size of jar. Oh and dont use sage as a seasoning it turns the flavors off when canned.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY BUGGIE!!!!!! I have so much enjoyed seeing you grow little princess! Thank you all for your videos. Have a Blessed Week **HUGS & PRAYERS** from Kelly and the critters at Piney Haven Homestead.
Happy birthday Buggy! With all your canning and getting ready for winter I don't know how you were able to get two batches of soap out for ordering! Wow! Kudos to you and the family. ❤
Good seeing Meg in the vlog for more than a few minutes. We miss her. The baby is so cute and loved watching her do the corn shucking with you all. Happy Harvesting.
I could never cut corn like that. I hold it in my left hand and cut with a butcher knife, cutting toward my belly, my mom taught me, then after you cut the kernels you scrape each row, that makes your corn creamier. Later my husband bought me a corn cutting board, but I could cut an ear faster with a knife and didn’t get so tired. I love watching you young girls preserve food. I’m a 74 year old widow that doesn’t need to anymore. 🙏❤️❤️❤️🕊😀
Wow, the corn looks so good. When it’s out cheap in the supermarket, I cut it off the cob like you did and freeze the kernels. So much better than canned!

dried tomatoes, either bits or powder.. in your bread when making the dough. "Sun dried tomato bread".

The work ethic of both of you is amazing. Your skills also assure that your homestead will be successful and no one needs to advise you unless you ask. Thank you for the inspiration.
You are using the heck out of that little kitchen.
I so enjoy you two and your family . Meg seems to know every possible way to process food LOL !
You are one hard working woman. I so admire you!
Happy born on day little one.
Time for an outdoor kitchen. I can outside on the patio with propane burners, keeps the heat and humidity outside. I just finished peach preserves, its amazing how much one tree can produce. God Bless.

Hello beautiful how you doing
LOL!
I love your family and all your videos!
Put tomatoes in a jar with oil and spices, later use on bruschetta and/or blend into paste for a dip and also add to pesto and pastas.
We used to get corn, in the shucks.. by the long bed pickup bed load (like 1970's, 8 foot pickup bed). and have two grandmothers, uncle, cousins, mom, dad, sibling.. and a full weekend of shucking, silking, cutting, canning..
Happy, blessed birthday little one! Beautiful little girl, just like mom and dad, and brothers! God Bless to all!
I need to be your neighbor, so I can come learn how to do all of that stuff from Meg!
I love it that the whole family is pitching in! Nothing is wasted-even the pigs get a little snack. Happy Birthday Buggy! Hard to believe it’s been a year. She is such a good baby. 🌷
Always a good day when a new video from Hollar Homestead drops. Happy Birthday Miss Lillyanna
Again I applaud you for the peace and love and joy that this baby girl found upon her arrival into your home as well as receives from all of you and her contentment is a testimony of all of that & for ALL YOU DO IN & FOR YOUR FAMILY😊♥️❣️
So proud and honored to be able to watch your videos. Good luck with the rest of your garden and fall season harvest❣️🥕
I can’t believe she’s already a year old, so active and verbal. I love to watch you guys putting up the food.

Omigosh baby bug is right in there helping. So adorable!
So good to watch your family working together to get the winters food ready. Happy Birthday baby girl, you are growing like a weed. I wish you all the best of the harvest and have a Blessed day.
Meg is holding a sleeping baby and processing a ton of corn! She is a trooper for sure!!!
This must be the canning day, let alone the season. I made 34 quarts of taco soup, again, and 12 pints of chicken pot pie filling
wow! do you have favorite recipes that could be shared?
ITs canning season Indeed. Today I finished a batch of pizza sauce and sundries tomatoes. So worth!
Cheers!
@@SaraPfeffer Thank you so much for sharing!
Happy Birthday Buggy!
When store shelves are empty you’ll be so glad you did this!
When? My stores are mostly empty right now. Sheesh. But yes, I hear you.
So true the store shelves can be empty in a day depending on the next scamdemic the worlds governments want to pull on the people
I love that you pray before you eat
I could never cut corn like that. I hold it in my left hand and cut with a butcher knife, cutting toward my belly, my mom taught me, then after you cut the kernels you scrape each row, that makes your corn creamier. Later my husband bought me a corn cutting board, but I could cut an ear faster with a knife and didn’t get so tired. I love watching you young girls preserve food. I’m a 74 year old widow that doesn’t need to anymore. 🙏❤️❤️❤️🕊😀
Happy 1st Birthday, Buggy! I loved watching Meg “squirrel” away food. Looks like a lot of work but I’m sure the rewards are worth it! 🥰
Hello beautiful how you doing
Hard to believe that precious baby girl is turning one! Your boys are great. Such happy helpers!
The baby is growing up so fast I sure have enjoyed watching y’all put up your food it looks like fun with a loving family
Hello beautiful how you doing
With a houseful of growing kids. The stored food will be awesome! I love squirreling away food too!
Wow, the corn looks so good. When it’s out cheap in the supermarket, I cut it off the cob like you did and freeze the kernels. So much better than canned!
Love watching you kids and your family. 💜
