IF TRACK NAMES ARE IMPORTANT TO YOU PLEASE READ: At 4:44 I talk about customizing your label names (i.e. track names), which I do not do for the purposes of flashcards. If you want to preserve your "track names" you must choose "Use Label/Track Name" in the export settings window. It is the first choice in the bottom right corner of the settings window (see it at 7:00 in the video). In this demo, I selected "Numbering after file name prefix." In my opinion, this is the superior choice for flashcards as you give your tracks the same name (i.e. Chapter 10) and a sequential number. Let me know if you have any questions regarding the above. :-)
Really useful, thank you. On my version of Audacity in 2021 (Version 3.04/Mac) the menu is slightly different - Analyse/Label Sounds... Also, I think the setting you can alter to get your whole clip included is the minimum silence parameter (rather than the threshold dB). If any gaps inside your wanted clip are longer than this threshold, the clip will be interrupted by a label. If the gaps between clips are longer than any gap within a clip, you can set the silence duration to any value in between and it will clip where wanted. It worked perfectly for me, thanks.
Looks like for PC and MAC, Audacity comes with LAME already built-in. However I have PC I am having in issue not being able to access the "sound finder" feature. I went to the Analyze tab then the drop down didn't have it in there. But it has "Beat finder". Looks like I've found the same feature but it's labled differently under the Analyze tab: Lable Sounds. But I'm not sure if it has the same action as the Sound Finder... So my Analyze tab drops down this menu of options: Contrast, Plot Spectrum, Find Clipping, Beat Finder, Lable Sounds. That's it. It doesn't have the Silence Finder or Sound finder.
Sound Finder has been superseded by Label Sounds. It will do the same thing. The only thing I adjusted on the Label Sounds window was the "Maximum leading silence" and "Maximum trailing silence" options. This will allow you to adjust how long before and after the sound it includes in the label cutting out the part of the video where you have to manually adjust them.
thank you mandarin mania , very descriptive . I only want to split my audio track into 2 tracks .as my original track is 2 hours long and I,m unable to burn it to a cd , so I,m hoping with your help I can save my tracks using 2 cd's . thank you I look forward to your reply...tony
I was thinking you could add 2 labels as I do in the part of the video where a label is missing and split your clip much the same way. I was thinking there must be an easier way for you....
