Thank you, Miss Vickybee, for sharing your insight. I've always been a journaller and have never worried about what someone would think if they were to read what I've written. If someone has so little respect for me that they feel it's okay to read my private thoughts and feelings, that tells me a lot about their morals/ethics and I would be seriously inclined to reevaluate our relationship. I would never edit my journals out of fear that someone would read them ... that would simply negate the whole purpose of journalling! That's not to say I leave my journal out in the open for anyone to find; certainly not. I keep it under lock and key, as I do previous journals that are full. There's so much treachery in the world today that for some people, the only place they can be totally honest is in their journals and I think we all owe it to ourselves to do that. I have always found the feeling of freedom that comes with journalling is just exquisite. You are so inspiring ... I enjoyed this very much. :)
This was FANTASTIC!!! It's wonderful to know there are so many of us out there. I always thought I was the only one that felt this way about journaling....
I love this video! I used to keep a journal when I was younger and as I got older, i found some things were holding me back like you discussed in the video. I am at a "stuck" point in my life and I was greatly inspired by your words and spirit, to start again. I am very excited to pick a journal and pens :) ! Thank you tremendously for sharing this with us!
Hello Vicky, thank you for this video. I really am touched by you sharing your experience as a nurse. I'm pharmacy student in my last year, and I could totally relate to what you have experienced during my hospital rotation. Even in community setting, I could see so many people talking to me at drop off how their day has been but suddenly 'shut down' when I ask them health-related question. You assured me again it's not about what's happening to you, but it's all about what you make out of it. Thank you so much for your thought-provoking message. Love your hair and necklace. so pretty
The part about 8.5 minutes in where you talk about bottling things up inside and using the journal to express yourself is so right. I have been a journaler since I was in 10th grade which was a tiny bit over 30 years lol. Journaling did make me feel so much better BUT when you journal the same things and the same problems and like you said you leave them in the journal and don't deal with them in a real life situation, these things can cause severe medical issues. I have learned so much in the past year about this. I had severe depression for about 6 months. I knew what it was but was so scared to share with my family. It took my mom demanding to take me to my doctor and my doctor willing to say "bring her in immediately". I got the proper help and am on the way to feeling much better. The reason it is so hard sometimes for people, especially me, is that I am an up beat person. Depression was horrible for me. It was a terrible experience I hope I never repeat and I have learned that when I journal and patterns are coming out, I am going to pay attention!! Sorry it's so long but thank you so much for your videos, I love to watch and listen to your videos.
Kim Cooley Hi Kim thank you for being so candid and sharing something so personal and painful. I'm glad that you can take away something from the video and that you can validate that journaling is so very important and can better your way of thinking and dealing with things in life!! xxo
This was wonderful. I loved the example you used of being a nurse. That makes perfect sense. I would do the same being a nurses aide when I had to take care of someone. Opening up our eyes to the every day things around us will definitely give us more insight and thoughts to journal about. Thank you so much for sharing!! ((Hugs))
This is a great video. I've always wanted to journal but never knew how to start. I did it for some time when I was a teenager, I still keep this notebook, it was a tough time so every time I review this notebook It's like I can understand many things about myself and how my life turned into, I am grateful I kept a journal during this time even for a month or two, it did me well. Now I'm looking to get back into jounaling but I was wondering how to do it without loosing patience. Great tips, thank you MissVicky. Your channel is one of my UA-cam favorites by the way. Cheers :)
I really appreciate you sharing this video because I journal but in the back of my mind I think about what someone else would think if they ever read it.
JC Train when it seems appropriate i put a disclaimer on the front page of my journals. something along the lines of: "if you read this and get your feelings hurt, i am sorry. But, these are/were my feelings at the moment that they were written. if they were important enough or lasted long enough, i would/will talk to you about them. thank you for your understanding." non-journalers won't get this, but other journalers will. i just sort of felt that it was a fair warning. maybe this will help.
Another great video! You are very good at communicating a most abstract concept. It is very hard to express feelings and emotions in written form but your examples helped to make clear that's exactly what journalist is about. Thank you
Not to be stalker-y or anything, but you have a very soothing, easy-to-listen-to voice. I happened upon your channel, and have been watching/listening to you while sewing patches on scout uniforms...one of my most hated chores. I really enjoy seeing your flip throughs, and you're making me think about starting to journal again. I quit when I had my kids...no time or mental energy, but they're a little older now, so maybe I'll pick it back up. Really like your channel!
Hi Vicky thank you for this great inspiring video. It made me realize I have switch form writing by hand (which I love so much) to typing on my computer again, so I can write more in depth without hurting my hand. Your tips and examples remind me of "Writing down the bones" by Natalie Goldberg
I agree sometimes Ellen. I type so much faster and I can say soooo much more than writing, but I also LOVE looking back and seeing my handwriting or the pretty pens or paper that I used as well. So I'm stuck.
Mamey Brown I would prefer writing in a notebook to but I have nerve damage in my hand which hurts too much a the moment. Hopefully this will get better soon :)
***** Hi Ellen, thank you for such kind words. Perhaps you can do both so that you give your hands a little break from writing. Try a fountain pen also because you don't have to push as hard on paper!!
I just have to say "get outta my head" I love that these videos come up when I need them most.. maybe it is just that I am open to receiving it, not sure. But another HEARTFELT THANK YOU MISS VICK!! btw.. love Hank in the background trying to see what's happening and you look GORG again :) the "new" look is awesome :)
Hello Vicky! the "disclaimer"-intro is adorable (where you say that you are no expert). Our childhood diaries came with locks and of course we knew how to open our sibilings' diary with a hairpin :-) I had one thought/reason why I would not write down very private stories: Someone will find and read them when I pass ways! You (smiling): "Who cares when I am not here anymore. It does not really matter." Thank you, I needed this. :-D I found your channel 2 days ago, looking forward to watching old and upcoming vlogs. Oh, and there is a MissVickybee-blog out there, too! :)
Really, really great video! I'm trying to start journaling but am finding it difficult as it's never something I've done before. I've read in a number of places how helpful it can be for those with anxiety (which is me) so I wanted to give it a try. I'm not very consistent with it at the moment and mostly just write about what I did that day, or the day before as I'm trying to write in the morning now instead of the evening with each entry not being very long.
Hi there Miss Vicky, love the video so inspirational, lots food for thought. I'm new ish to journalling and what I am finding on my journey is a great way to express my feelings and reflect on my life, especially when I am journalling about my faith and believes. Thinking about your words, for me is about inside out and the ability to apply that in your life. Takes time, perseverance, consistence, joy, confidence and so on, all in our head accompanied with actions, step by step we can do anything we set our mind to it.Thanks for sharing. I'm always learning great things from you. Have a blessed weekend, warm hugs. Edina, xxx
Awareness and being present. This reminds me of a movie about LUCID DREAMING. Its so good to journal while also being aware. Specially for those of us planners or writers, its good to be in the moment and not too far ahead or stuck in the past. I've been hospitalized since I was a little girl, and I understand that connection that transcends words when a good nurse comes in the room, and even as a little girl you know that they really SEE you. :)
Thanks for sharing, vicky. I also love love love journaling, but often find myself doing it in my head, saying I'll want to write that down, but never get around to it. My life is so busy, full time teacher working 65+ hours a week, mum of two, wife etc. Do you journal at a particular time each day, or do you just carry your journal everywhere ? Tia xx
Nikola Hughes Hi Tia!! I totally get being busy but if you watch my Franklin covey videos I help you get your priorities in so that not only are you productive but you are also being fullfilled!! xo
