This is one of my favorite videos of yours. Very encouraging. Especially as I get older, I find friendships to be dying off and it's hard to trust new friendships...Soooo much better to just confide in a journal. Thank you Vicky. As always, GREAT video!
Thanks Vicky. Because of you...you've introduced this into my life last year. Journaling has been my friend and confidant...a place to let it all out...so to speak. I totally understand the bonding with a journal....it becomes an extension of oneself. Where we can write down all our of thoughts without the fear of being put down or laughed at. Where we can truly be ourselves. I hope one day that when I'm dead and gone that my children my read this and then know who I really am.
Perspective! That's one of the main reasons I journal. This video was excellent. You and I are on the same page on why we journal. I stopped for several years and picked it up again after watching some of your videos last year. One other benefit...reading bits of your 18-19-year old journal to your 16 year old daughter. Not only were we rolling on the floor , but now she knows that I have been there. And she talks more freely about her life with me. Two is definitely more than twice the work. I went on to have three. Which was exponentially more work. But it has been a most excellent adventure. And the world is better place because they're in it. Bless you and your family.
The part of this video I really enjoyed was the examples of how you journaled throughout your life. It helps those who don't know where to start journaling the idea that you write about whatever you're going thru. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for sharing. I really appreciated the comment on journaling to keep from gossiping! More people should do that! 😊 I've used a journal as my best friend & really should get back to it. Hearing you talk so passionately about it has been great & has lit the flame to get back to it.
I love all your videos about journaling. I just find them so inspiring. I feel like I want to sit down and journal right now instead of cooking everyone dinner! I love your idea of just slapping something on post it note to get back to it later when things are hectic. I'm definitely going to start using that idea as before I've found that the time when I need to journal most is when I have the least time to do it.
Wow - this vlog really resonated with me. I have journaled off and on much of my life. As I get older, it is harder to find a friend in which to confide; how wonderful to have a journal to fulfill that need! Thank you so much for sharing and encouraging others to do the same.
Hi Vicky! I know some people complain about really long videos but to be honest these are my favourite ones of you! I love it when you give us insight into your thought process and why you do the things you do the way you do. This is really inspiring and for me it is really interesting to see why you journaled during your highschool and then college and beeing a nurse. On my end I stopped journaling in highschool because I think I didn't want to put up with all those feelings and just wanted to shove them away and get over those times. Hearing you explain why it makes sense to journal as a nurse really inspired me as I'm on track of becoming a doctor and even now as I'm still in college there are things that people just don't want to hear and some feelings about patients you also don't want to share with others so I might give it another go..
What a good video! I'm envious that you started when you were young and kept it up all these years. I tried to keep a journal off and on over the years, but it never stuck. I started (again) a couple months ago, and this time it totally stuck. I totally know what you mean about bonding with your journal and looking forward to spending time with it... and you're right, it's sooo beneficial to be able to off-load uncomfortable thoughts and feelings. It totally clicked this time, and one of the first feelings I had was wishing I had done this since I was a young man (I just turned 57). What a treasure those volumes would be now. I gave my sons Seven Seas Writer notebooks and Lamy AL-star fountain pens for Channukah this year, and wrote them each a note encouraging them to take it up.
Great video! Thanks for talking about journaling. I have journaled as long as I could write, but you gave me some good ideas on or maybe a perspective about journaling I had forgotten about. You look great, I am so happy for your upcoming baby 2. Keep being wonderful.
I love you thoughts. I love to write and journal. I usually do it more late at night but It could be several times a day, whatever is going on with me.
Great video! The process and the evolution of the notebook is what it's all about for me too. Love your videos. You are so real and relatable. Thank you.
Hello Vicky! I love this video, it is excellent! God bless you and your family on the upcoming birth of your new little family member! Thank you and FYI (following) for the good you have added to my journal and stationery adventures. I am now on my 3rd! Seven Seas blank journal. One is complete, One is currently in use and one has become a prayer journal where I pour out my heart to God. I use the blank format and always, always, always use a fountain pen (usually a Twsbi, I have several loaded with various inks) and often include some kind of artistic expression. Although I have never felt compelled to practice "1 Book July," this year beginning in July I drew a calendar on a two-page spread as per an example I remembered from one of your videos. I was in a season of helping a family member recover from a serious accident and found the calendar to provide a backdrop and setting for the words I would write that month. I thank God I am through that season but plan to continue to keep the practice of a calendar..besides insight into the journal posts, it serves as a quick reference to important discoveries and insights made that month. I am a lifetime journal keeper and artist with an addiction to planners. Most of my adult life I have journaled in the Ampad Gold Fibre Project Planner (9.5 x 7.25). I do not think the Seven Seas could be more opposite, lol, but I am an organizational nerd and the Ampad's had their time and I still adore their nerdiness. All my best!
Sounds like a great way to journal with the month view and be able to look back on the month with each day filled on the calendar. I love those Ampad notebooks. I love that they are ivory paper. Tomoe River is amazing for writing and drawing!! Thank you for sharing your wonderful journey with journals.
Great video!!! Very inspirational! I use to always feel embarrassed of keeping a journal as an adult until I came across your channel & I'm so glad I did..
I really love this, Vicky! Thank you for sharing! I have also been journaling since elementary school, although not consistently, but I recognize the value. I used to really stress out about my entries not being in chronological order, but this year something in me clicked and I realized that is not really important. So starting this year and through 2017, my goal is to fill all of the partially filled notebooks I have. It doesn't matter to me that they are out of order. What matters to me is honoring the notebook by filling it, and watching the progression.
This is a great video and I really hope it inspires people to get started! I have been an on and off journaler and when I do look back I wish I had not taken time off from journaling. Thanks for all your ideas! I will watch this again and write down some ideas afterwards. This was a full and great explanation of the experience of journaling! Thank you.
Thank you so much Vicky! I just happened to watch this on a day that I needed to watch. I just started to journal at a much later time of my life than you started and it has been my best friend/talk with myself type of thing. I really appreciate your sharing. I have been watching you for some time now and this has been such a wonderful thing you have done for me and I'm sure others. Thanks so much for sharing!
You talked about many things that I agonize about over journaling. I really enjoyed this through to the end and now I'm a subscriber. Thank you for sharing.
Vicky you are such a great inspiration for me. I have anxiety issues that are a daily struggle for me and I really appreciate being able to watch and review your wisdom and information and how I can make it work well for me. Problem is, finding the right book. I have the unfortunate luck of finding something I think I might like, trying it, and witnessing the pages falling apart or out of the book spines and than I end up giving up on any future entries. I get motivated to try again and usually re-glue old pages into a new book and it happens once again. I don't feel I'm doing anything out of the ordinary but I'm only on approximately page 15 of book 3 land never really gotten very far on the previous ones either but I will look into the Seven Seas book you have suggested on more than one occasion. Please keep up the great video presentations on this subject. TYFS always! xoxo
You gave a great in depth way about journaling. I made the mistake of tossing several because they seemed so negative😩 bad idea. Now I tend to journal what is going on, what is bothering me, liked what you shared. I feel OK to have all those journals I am working on, different journal for different things, putting aside and coming back. A work in progress. Bonding has to be there to open yourself up to that journal, don't hear much about bonding. Thanks great chat about your journaling💘
Great chat Vicky!! Wish I journalists and kept more of what I did in my younger days... I do have a half full one from middle school that I bust out every once in a while for a good chuckle.. but then a huge gap to adulthood. Anyway thanks for sharing.
I’ve just gotten into journaling and use it as a cross between “dear diary” type memories, brain dump, and ideas I want to reference in the future. I do consider the fact I use it as a “diary” private though. My mom when I was a kid/teen tried to encourage my journaling but it never took, now that I have come to it myself I feel self conscious whenever she asks if I am journaling. Totally agree with using the good papers lol. I think the biggest reason I have taken to it is I LOVE writing with my fountain pens since discovering them a year or two ago and look for reasons to write. I haven’t yet journaled in good paper but will move to either Tomoe River or CAL once I finish the one I am currently in. The added benefit of fountain pens is I discovered Noodler’s Blue Ghost and I use that for entries that I consider more sensitive than normal ones.
I am a nurse too and I can so relate to you. Bonding to older terminal pts. Dealing with the loss. I also was 18 just married and had 3 children by the time I was 29. I kept, appointment book/calendar. I still have those from 1973.
I have kept diaries and journals off and on since middle school. the last year my journaling is mostly photos with commentary. if need be I add add in cards, tags, etc to expand my writing space or highlight an entry. I also add embellishments, washi-tape and stickers. It's more of a scrapbook- journal.
I love that you put away notebooks, but always come back to them. I've decided that my journaling is inherently disorganized. I have blank pages and if I need to write, that's where I put what's on my mind at that time. Mine are I guess a kind of hodgepodge.
"I don't walk up to strangers & say, 'Hey, do you keep a journal?'" Hahahaha I am now wiping up coffee I just spit out! I always enJOY your videos!!! :-)
I enjoy all your videos, but especially love this one. I'm trying to get back into journaling and am just a few days into doing morning pages in my Traveler's Notebook, which I'm really enjoying. It may be that if I really get back into it, come the new year I will start journaling in the Hobonichi Cousin that has a bit more of a comfortable width to write on. You're absolutely right, laying your heart out on paper can make you feel raw and vulnerable and is an act of courage, but a cathartic one, and sometimes threads and themes come out of the subconscious in a much more coherent way than expected! And sometimes not. :) Either way, it's okay. Thank you for sharing this wonderful, reassuring, inspiring video!
Very good Video! 👌🏼💕 Love how passionately you are always talking about journaling. I tend to overthink my thoughts in my head all the time and stand in the way of just letting go and let the writing flow. I really want and have to work on this so that I can journal better. Wish you all the best for the last weeks of your pregnancy! Enjoy the time. Xoxo
Thank you so much for your kind words. It does take a little bit of practice to feel comfortable seeing your words written on paper but once you do it a few times it will get easier!
great perspective on the subiect pf journalling! ... now if only i could find a PLANNER i could bond with! ... i have many of every variety that i love & give me joy but i just cant bond with just one and therein lies my elusive planner peace. If someone walked into my home and handed me one of them and walked out with all the others, and told me this is the only one you can have, now make it work - i could do it. But with having so many options here AND for purchase online makes bonding & committing to just one impossible.
I recently inherited a locking metal trunk which I will be using. I currently have them in a private closet (that locks with a key) in an overflowing, decorative (worse for wear) storage box which I purchased years ago at TJ Maxx. It was great until it became too small.
how do you jot down ideas or brain dump quickly before you forget in morning when you wake up! do you wake up right there and then . im starting to keep a note pad next to me or one of my small note book ideas. I have so much in my brain that my tabs wont shut down lol .
I thoroughly enjoyed the video. Your passion for journaling is inspiring. Do you have plans for your journals when you die? I spoke with someone who journals and she said her best friend knows where her journals are stored and has instructions to destroy them upon her death. I know it's an odd thing to be concerned about, but there are some things I've journaled which I would never want to be exposed. Thank you for making this wonderful video!
As a life long journaler I can relate to much of what you said in this fun vid. A question - any pointers as to where I can buy "expired" hobos or moleskine journals? In other words dated unused journals from years past that I can use. Thanks.
GREAT question! You might try the hobonichi Facebook group. I was glad to see Vicky re-using her Hobonichi as I have been thinking of how I want to use mine.
That is a really great point you made about writing emotions in your journal to avoid gossip. I have no one to talk to after my husband walked out & I'm tending to babble to anyone. I see it in their mannerisms that they are finished with listening to me but then I don't know how to end the babble. I end up retreating into myself more and then later on I find that there is gossip happening but know it is from my own doing. I'm going to do this in a personal journal and keep it safe. Do you give yourself rules when writing (just in case someone reads that shouldn't have) I've started to make my own TN covers for etsy but have found that between work and etsy I'm not using any of my journals or life planners as much as I need to.
I have a few tricks I use to make sure that they are not read by the wrong eyes. I will have a video coming up very soon to specifically target this issue!
Thank you for a really great video, I write in code and colors that only mean something to me... People have there own color.....I write how things and people make me feel rather than specifics.
first off Congrats on your soon too be bundle of joy!! And yes girl lately i just cant seem to find my journal today. there is too many that i have and ever since i know how to make my own diy TN! But yes i have a BOND with them they make me HAPPY! and yes i been using them ever since JUNIOR HIGH. Now its helping poor out mix emotions since i lost my job and struggling to find one. I KEEP MYSELF MOTIVATED! and jot down ideas goals wants etc. Thank you so much for your input. MISSVICKYBEE
Thank you!! I love hearing your passion about your journal. Sometimes working through all these obstacles that life gives us helps us to move forward and realize that everything happens for a reason. You are very inspirational!! Thank you for sharing!
What's funny is I'm the opposite, I leave my journal everywhere , I guess m confident that nobody in my family will look just because they don't really care at all and I'm 17 so there's a lot of embarrassing stuff in there, for some reason it just doesn't bother me
This is one of my favorite videos of yours. Very encouraging. Especially as I get older, I find friendships to be dying off and it's hard to trust new friendships...Soooo much better to just confide in a journal. Thank you Vicky. As always, GREAT video!

Thank you for sharing. I love journaling. I have had one journal since 2011 and I still use it. It has a lot of my poetry in it and I just love it.

In my opinion, the best bindings are sewn not glued. I hope this helps.

Thank you, Vicky!! This was sooo helpful and this Video was exactly, what i needed. Best wishes from Austria, Tiziana
This is so helpful! Thank you!
Great video! Thank you so much for expanding on journaling! My biggest fear and question, is where do you store old journals?
I use banker's boxes, stored at the back of the closet behind stuff!
Where is your fountain pen from? The pattern is adorable.💕
it was a limited edition fountain pen but there are other patterns still available
at gouletpens.com/edison-nouveau-premiere/c/101
I thoroughly enjoyed the video. Your passion for journaling is inspiring. Do you have plans for your journals when you die? I spoke with someone who journals and she said her best friend knows where her journals are stored and has instructions to destroy them upon her death. GREAT question! You might try the hobonichi Facebook group. I was glad to see Vicky re-using her Hobonichi as I have been thinking of how I want to use mine.
Amen, sister. This is the best journaling video I've ever seen. Thank you.
Is there a certain system you use or just simply date the page as you right.
Do you give yourself rules when writing (just in case someone reads that shouldn't have)
I've started to make my own TN covers for etsy but have found that between work and etsy I'm not using any of my journals or life planners as much as I need to.
I have a few tricks I use to make sure that they are not read by the wrong eyes. I will have a video coming up very soon to specifically target this issue!
looking forward to it
You look great. Congratulations.
Thank you for a really great video, I write in code and colors that only mean something to me... People have there own color.....I write how things and people make me feel rather than specifics.

my journal let me down in 9th grade when my dad found it. was not good!
What's funny is I'm the opposite, I leave my journal everywhere , I guess m confident that nobody in my family will look just because they don't really care at all and I'm 17 so there's a lot of embarrassing stuff in there, for some reason it just doesn't bother me
