Now you should do a milk jug test to see which one has better penetration and expansion! If you're within 100yds of a deer I don't think the php ones would be that much worse than the balls for accuracy and they might perform better when they hit

Hey bud, I don't know if anyone has mentioned it to you, but if you're really chasing accuracy and groups you should look in to a tether and regulator to connect your rifle to your refill tank while you shoot. The regulator will keep a consistent pressure behind each shot and will eliminate the need to refill every few shots.

I was looking at the Dragon Claws' cousin, the Recluse in 9mm. 925+fps, that is 9mm subsonic territory. 😲Air guns can definitely pack a punch. 🥊

Chrono. You need to know the speed to ensure it's viable beyond 50 yds. I would suggest, unless mfg says no way, loading the phps backwards to see if they'll seal better, loke a hollow base wadcutter. Also load the round balls with the sprue end forward or rearward to make a better seal.
The arrow function is pretty cool too.

Do a Chronograph test on it. To see if it's faster than a 50 cal muzzleloader.

I've run chronograph tests with my LSS Texan, with pill weights from 177 grain to 410grain. The lighter pills do move as much as 100 fps faster . My particular rifle seems to like the 350 grain pills accuracy wise. Those were running right at 770fps, with just under 500fpe. Cut it back to the 240grain , and was running 940 fps, at 430 fpe. So ya, they'll run at powder bullet velocities consistent with the 45acp with the 45 cal air rifle.

And if you can believe it Pyramid Air has some air rifles and pistols that are stronger than the Dragon Claw which still impresses me. Now the prices are pretty serious given that they are just using air but again these aren't your standard or entry level air rifles and pistols. Great company that is really doing amazing work in the Air rifle and pistols realm!.

Figured the bullet would have done better than the ball bearing but best part about having a new toy is that ya get to play and eventually you'll be showing us cloverleaf groups and we get the benefit of lots of videos😁 I believe i watched Keith and Matti Warren drop cape Buffalo with their dragon claw and some big deer at 100 plus yards.

If going to a higher weight projectile the accuracy goes down I would suspect the rifling is too slow of twist rate , maybe take it back to 100 yds and check for keyholing ? i Have to wonder if the base should be hollow to allow the base to better grip the rifling assuming they are soft enough

I think I’d look for some hollow base pellets. The skirt on the back opens to fit the lands and usually improves accuracy. I’d also try groups on low power settings as well. On mine I can usually tune the regulator and get most pellets to shoot acceptable groups.

That's the problem with cast slugs, lead density changes during casting and it's really hard to get consistency with the slugs . Haven't used the round balls yet, but took a nice doe with mine last season. But even shot impacted about 4 inches from point of aim. Aimed for heart shot but took out both lower lungs instead. But had little bullet deformation. A little over a half inch in and out the other side.

To the prison who asked but might not have seen it,
technically a 50 BMG bullet could be shot from a 50 cal air gun, but the problem is 50 cal air gun is .510 whereas 50 BMG is .511 it might work but with the hard case without sizing it down it won't fit if size down to .509 or .508, it might work but now you have to also consider the weight of a 50 BMG bullet is around 600-800 gr typically, and a 50 cal air gun is 200-400 gr, so with a high-powered airgun you just might be able to but I'm not sure and I wouldn't trust it that much, but it is plausible.

If you tether to your tank, just make sure that your tank pressure isn’t higher than what your gun can handle. If it is, then you will need another valve to reduce your pressure down, until your tank pressure drops down to what your gun max fill pressure is. My Texan I fill up to 2,800 PSI
