Thanks for uploading! My opinion: The other projectile as well, a steel-core or other armor-piercing projectile should have been used! This is the only way he could have realistically shown the difference between the two types! The soft lead shot of the 338 was deformed and transformed into a projectile with a much larger surface area as it passed through the material! The 338 thus suffered a significant disadvantage! :)
I'm mighty impressed with the .338 Lapua in the direct comparison with the .50 Browning Machinegun (BMG) Here is part of my takeaway, and this purely has to do with physics. For the .50 BMG you used a more solid backrest for the paper plates. The effect of this is that the more solid backrest provides an almost equal but opposite force, leading to more of the incomeing energy being spent penetrateing paperplates. As seen in the .338 Lapua footage, the remaining paperplates and the books acted as a shockabsorber, negateing some of the incomeing energy by disperseing it through same way motion of mass. But there is no denying that "mass in motion times speed" beats everything. The .50 projectile was almost twice the weight of the .338 projectile in this test. The .50 BMG round simply ripped off the copper jacket and continued on as a steel sabott. The .338 round was turned into a modern piece of art. All the energy it took to create that piece of art was dumped more quicly due to the artistic process. If you shot a bear chargeing you, the 338. Lapua would dump more of it's energy through from the head to the tail. If you shot it with the 50. BMG, the bear would dump a steel turd at very high speed. In both cases though, the bear would be dead. For the boys, please do a test with the same setup of plates and books with a 9.3x62. It's gona clearly show how good the .338 Lapua really is.
Penetration of the 338 is really more than I'd ever need, and it's a lot cheaper (ok, somewhat cheaper) than the .50. I gotta say, I didn't expect TWICE the penetration though.
Thanks for another great video. It would be a more comparable test if you could have used bullets of the same construction. If you had used a jacketed lead core 50 caliber bullet, it probably would not have penatrated as many plates due to the deformation of the bullet. Be an interesting experiment.
I really prefer these paper plate videos over the water jug videos. I think they show the difference in calibers and bullet types. I do think a hard cast 338 bullet would have been a better comparison to the 50 BMG round used.
Hey Who_Tee_Who sorry I just seen this video but I'm glad i did lol real cool content. The hurricane is just landing now. It's howling & puffing but watching this video and a few of your older one is really taking my 13 year old daughter and I minds off all that Mother Nature drama going on outside 😊😊😊
Apart from the bullet types being different as already mentioned a heap of times, could the plates being taped together (more compressed) compared to the 50 BMG where the plates were not taped have made a difference as well ?
Well, I do believe all the other viewers have covered the bullet construction differences so no need to go there. But another issue is with the target itself. With the 50BMG you had a stabile retainer/backer so the plates didn't move back. That keeps them from absorbing energy and allows the projectile to penetrate further. With the Lapua you just had a couple books that moved quite easily. You would be simply dumbfounded at how much penetration can be nullified by the target absorbing just 10 pounds of energy by moving with the impact. Just have a look at both impacts in slow motion and you will see what I mean.
4600 foot pounds vs 14,000 foot pounds oh,oh hand raised... i think i know the answer. Love the 50... I have run an Armalite myself. still love the paper plate challenges 👍
Well now this is a interesting video and a very interesting comparison. I know that the 50 BMG is a more powerful round but The bullet is a steel core and it did not mushroom out. On the 338 the mushroomed bullet slowed its penetration way down.
Come on Who Tee Who, ya gotta do apples to apples. Of course a full metal jacket is going to penetrate deeper than an expanding round, I knew that when I was 12.
Great video! Do you think because the plates were "bound" with tape that made a difference? I'm not a conspicacy theorist, but I did notice, and yes, the 50 BMG is bigger and all of that. I say we need a do over. (I'd really like to see it done again hehehehehe)
Have you given the 300 blackout a chance to go through the paper plates yet? Just asking because not only is it fast but it goes through anything including armor. Or maybe you can ask Scott to borrow something not to big or crazy just something else, 1 that will destroy it all from the power transfer and one that will just go right through everything on the table including the books and the table. Just an idea because I know you guys together even once would be a great video. Thank 4 the time.
But it isn't "Like for Like". The 338 was a soft expandable bullet, whilst the 50. cal was a steel cored bullet. Should've fired a solid copper 338 or armor piercing projectile so that they were similar bullets.
I Love the paper plate tests!🇺🇲✝️🇺🇲 Jude 20-25 20 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, 21 Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. 22 And of some have compassion, making a difference: 23 And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh. 24 Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, 25 To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.
So WTW what is the one boolot slinger you’ve always wanted to try but could never get your hands on ? And with all of your experience what is the most underrated gun used to hunt big game ? Cheers 🇨🇦🇨🇦
If the 338 was AP the outcome would have been vastly different, as I'm sure you know. Thanks for the fun.
Fun fact. 50 bmg is a 30-06 scaled up.
The 50 went deeper because of the steel core partially

@@Zoltan74 I understand but I would still like to see you team up with scoot.

Thanks. If I'm ever attacked by a stack of paper plates I will now know what to use to defend myself.
408 CheyTac
50 BMG steel core bullet, .338 basic copper jacket lead core...
Penetration of the 338 is really more than I'd ever need, and it's a lot cheaper (ok, somewhat cheaper) than the .50. I gotta say, I didn't expect TWICE the penetration though.
Interesting. What would happen with the same type of ammo? .50 cal is a beast.
"Honestly, in my hand, I feel like it should be bigger".... That's what she said about .416 Barrett!
Damn you beat me to it.
I remember when we did the yellow pages instead of plates 🤣
That was a really fun video. Thanks Adam! 👍🏼
The expansion of that 338 was amazing. Wouldn’t want to get hit by that!

If you had used a jacketed lead core 50 caliber bullet, it probably would not have penatrated as many plates due to the deformation of the bullet. Be an interesting experiment.
The 50 cal bullet was more streamlined for better penetration so I’m not so sure that was an apples to apples comparison.
How do you figure it's not apples to apples. Be like a.22 going against 5.56
Love the videos a lot of good information. Would like to see .338 vs 300prc. Been watching for 2 years now.
Raccoons would like to see 12.7x42 please!
I really prefer these paper plate videos over the water jug videos. I think they show the difference in calibers and bullet types. I do think a hard cast 338 bullet would have been a better comparison to the 50 BMG round used.
Yes! Paper plates videos. Brings me back to when I first started watching your channel. Keep up the best videos on the inter-web!
Awesome! Thank you!
Love the paper plate videos.
That 50 turned that paper back to pulp😂 Just add water 🤣👍👍
"But those aren't the same paper plates the FBI uses." - 22plinkster

Hey Hoot ! Yup that was a real fun video!!! Good stuff . I'm in lasscasas I got 2 nikon fx bran spanking new almost. Half price with rings and level.
Really enjoyed, love that 50. Thanks
The Nikon FX 1000 is what my son and I have on our 264 win mags. Great scopes. The 338 Lapua is an awesome round fun video
Fx1000 is a good one. Bummer they quit making them

Sorry should've read other comments first lol
YESSSS! An og paper plate vid!!!
That .338 looks like it kicks like a mule, LOL.
I love these older videos.
Great video comparison.
Love it! 😀
You have come a long way sir
Steel core vs lead core big differences yes
Visions of bad guys wearing paper plate body armour😉😉
Do a 460 weatherby magnum plz
4600 foot pounds vs 14,000 foot pounds oh,oh hand raised... i think i know the answer.
Love the 50... I have run an Armalite myself. still love the paper plate challenges
👍
Get a 416 Barrett and see what happens.
Great video buddy
Thanks for the visit
I have been making the switch to copper bullets for hunting... Wouldn't mind seeing how they old up in various tests like this.
338 LM vs 50 BMG would be a good one for a bullet drop/ energy comparison video. Maybe throw in 300 Win mag just for fun
You should compare the 500 Jeffery and the 50 BMG, same diameter, but totally different purpose.
Good idea
I had a massive Lapua Magnum this morning. It took a whole roll of XXL. It tells me I need more ruffage.
Great video sir. -W. Liggett
Great video, Adam. I never shot either calibers.
Thanks for watching

Hand loads the 338lupe with branes 280lrx bullets and see how many plates it goes through
That one surprised me.
Been missing yur live posts 😢
wow about long range watermelon with the 338
Come on Who Tee Who, ya gotta do apples to apples. Of course a full metal jacket is going to penetrate deeper than an expanding round, I knew that when I was 12.
Just using what I had. The stuff is crazy expensive
That's awesome
4:40 "That's what she said"
The lapua might have gone through more if the plates were anchored to the table with a stop like it appeared the 50 cal plates were. I’d retest
You can’t compare penetration of a solid penetrator bullet to a soft expanding lead core bullet?
I can not wait for this video.
👀👀👀

50 is a hoss, but the full metal jacket may have made a lot of difference.
The 338 should have had a steel core
Wild as. 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉.😊
Cool
If it is to be a even comparison one being a steel core the other needs to be as well
Have you given the 300 blackout a chance to go through the paper plates yet? Just asking because not only is it fast but it goes through anything including armor. Thank 4 the time.
Man, I really overestimated that 338 Lapua
👍😊
Have you ever compared the 416 Barrett against the 50 BMG in the paper plate challenge
6:38 that is also what she said
Well it no surprise that a steel core bullet penetrates deeper than a lead core bullet.
👍👍
But it isn't "Like for Like". The 338 was a soft expandable bullet, whilst the 50. cal was a steel cored bullet. Should've fired a solid copper 338 or armor piercing projectile so that they were similar bullets.
Not really surprising that the steel core went further tha a lead core but 880 is still very impressive
hey WHO tee, i never see anything on 22 hornet or 22 k hornet. would be cool to see
I am here now, but can't be in two hours. Got a early appointment ib the morning, sorry WTW
👍👍
I'm here now..😊 had to come watch
@@Thousand_yard_King hey!
💪👍👍
Confetti time.
The 338 should at least been a fmj
😘💕👍👍
Have you done a video on a 375 ruger yet? Probably gettin one soon, just wanted ur thoughts on it
I have not. I need one
❤❤❤
Almost as good as milk jugs!!!
Try 416 ruger on plates with federal berger bullet
I Love the paper plate tests!🇺🇲✝️🇺🇲

Was that 50 bmg armor piercing? If so it could explain the huge difference. Regardless, 50 bmg is an absolute beast!
Should try your elephant rifle using nonexpanding boolots
50 cal plates were held in place better.338 plates held by books soaked up energy by moving.well that's what I think I saw in the slow mo.
What about a comparison between .50 BMG vs 375 Cheytac and .50 BMG vs 406 Cheytac. Try in water jugs (energy display) and then into the paper plates.
Unfortunately that is pretty much impossible for me. Would cost me $20k to make that video.
PAPER PLATES! LET’S GO!! LOL
😁😁
So WTW what is the one boolot slinger you’ve always wanted to try but could never get your hands on ? And with all of your experience what is the most underrated gun used to hunt big game ? Cheers 🇨🇦🇨🇦
Totally bullet construction .
Adam, you da man!
This should be interesting.
Appreciate you watching!
No replacement for displacement!
SoooOOOOO Glad to see the alert notification brother, can't wait to see this one!!!! WooHoo to the WhoTeeWho!!!💥
👍WTW
👍👍
Shoot the plates at a mile and see if it makes any differance😂
375 cheytac vs 408 cheytac vs 416 barrett next
I wonder if the .338 didn't deform if it would have gone through more plates. Do they make a steel core .338 like the .50bmg does?
Called #2
I take it the 338 was not a steal core?
